I don't really get Esperanto though.

What did Lin say?

"Do you speak Esperanto?"

"Yes, it is."

?

MrJimmy
No, but Esperanto is absolutly the next coolest thing to Latin.

I love language, and sentence composition and such, and I just think it's so cool that a guy tried to make his own language, even if it pretty much failed.

Hehheh... I don't believe it's a total failure... there are many people in places I want to visit that will provide free room and board - simply for knowing Esperanto.

No place for the English speakers apparently.

I only really speak English. And Pig Latin. ninja

I want to learn to speak German and I suppose that I really ought to learn Italian because of my Italian background...
German is a great choice. I learned more about English in German class then I ever did in English class.

Hah, me too. Then again, I learned more about English in French class than I ever did in English class. Why is it that they never teach people the fundamentals and structure of their own language anymore?

Correct, and "Yes, you understand?" "Tiu Estas", "Estas" like in Spanish.

I know that. It's a perspective thing. Can't fully understand something until you know what your options are like.

When they teach English these days most of it seems to be about artsy fartsy symbolism rather than the structure of the language and how to apply it well.

Why is the KiKi Kitty in so damn many of the puzzles. Okay, I get it, it's cute, but I only want to look at a giant version of the thing for so long. Not to mention, why is this weeks Weekly Puzzle an old one? confused

They should hold a contest to see who gets to be represented as a weekly puzzle...

It's horrible. You should hear my roommate rant about how he can't pass university level courses because his papers get marked down for craptastic grammar. (Now he's got a rent-paying editor so he doesn't have to worry so much, but seriously, there is something wrong!)

Hmm, it depends on how good at English you are and how far up the ladder of clasess you are. I had a smattering of actual conventions as well as artsy stuff in my highschool classes. You only rememebr the part you hate I suppose.

Jimmy, I was pretty good at English. I took the hardest level of English available in year 11. When a more advanced class began in year 12 the only reason I didn't do it was because I didn't want to have too many classes. Even at the highest level of the compulsory English class there were people who didn't know how to spell or apply grammar properly.
