uggh, how horrible, im a cat person too and i really dont like dogs. I mean, someone elses dog- ok i might pat it. But they're always hanging aroudn u, wanting food, and pats, and walking. All they do is eat, poop, and annoy u.

call it something stupid, like jesus. Then when people come over you can say stuff like "watch out for jesus!" or "im just going to have a walk with jesus"

I, too, have been blessed with taking care of a "rat". (more of a dog person than a cat person)

My family calls it Jack. He was a pain in my arse, but he's gotten better.
