Before the Safari browser came out on the Mac OSX, my family used Netscape. I remember it was one of the big broswers competing with Internet Explorer. Did anyone else used to use Netscape? And what became of it? Is it dead, or just unloved?

I`m not sure exactly what happened to it. I remember it being the main computer browser when I was still in elementary school and the school got a new computer lab.

Netscape lost the first browser war to IE in the late 90s, was bought out by AOL, and has survived primarily as an AOL browser ever since. It's been very infrequently updated for security purposes, a major complaint.
Last I heard, AOL was planning to terminate product support for it as of February of this year.
Netscape was responsible for starting the Mozilla project, so Firefox is its descendant, in a way. The most recent Netscapes were in turn based on Firefox and Thunderbird.

Netscape for me was quite influential to the progress of most browsers now.
Too bad it's dying...
It's either dead or just not in use.
I remember using Netscape WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY back then. It was alright really.

Well, Netscape Connect, which merged with Wal-Mart Connect (really bad dial-up service) is still around, but I got a nice high-speed internet. Makes it look even worse.

I remember using Netscape in grade school. Now whenever I try to use it, it keeps telling me that it moved somewhere else.

That browser is no longer supported. *support ended February 1, 2008.* The last version was Netscape 9. My dad still uses that thing on his Windows 98SE computer. lol
