Whelp, today is May first and, in case you didn't know, it's a holiday! Do you celebrate it at all? If so, how do you do so?

I've been writing "4/30" all day on every school paper....
mrgreen I'm bad with the days.
So why do we even celebrate may day?

Probably everyone was whipped up into a panicked frenzy and ate each other. biggrin

They probably died off because no one actually celebrated Beltine or Walpurgisnacht in North America anymore -- most of the surrounding customs got moved to Easter and such.

Interesting trivia: Maypole dancing is actually a fertility ritual.

The part of Germany I'm from celebrates it by putting up trees (or hearts/wreathes) with colored streamers at the house of your love interest, or a tree with white streamers at people who you dislike.
There is also a dance into the may walpurgisnacht hybrid where couples jump over a fire and all that.

My sleep was severly disturbed.
Cause itS'a lso a tradition to deliver the trees during the night, with tractor engines and shouting and laughing..loudly.

I have several Wiccan friends and went to a May Day celebration for Beltane last year.

My mom said she always used to celebrate May Day as a kid growing up. A may pole at least.

Nope, I don't celebrate it. I guess a friend of my mom does though, because she brought us a basket of chocolate...which I thought was just an Easter thing.

I dunno, I never celebrated it growing up so I guess I never thought about it much.

At the beginning of the school year, the department was going to make an effort to celebrate May Day so we had some sort of second event instead of just Holiday Markt (long story).

We had ours yesterday since there was an art show going on today. The four language divisions in the language department had their annual soccer game. The Japanese finally beat the Spanish, but I believe it was the French who won this year.
