New World

As time went by, humanity continued to expand in population, but also in intellect. With each new discovery, they seemed to get closer and closer and closer to being as deities themselves. Intelligence expanded, science expanded, technology expanded, and, also population expanded, which created a need for new places in which humanity could reside. Gigantic space-traveling arcologies (self-contained and self-sustaining ecosystems in spacecrafts, capable of supporting a high density of life) were built, then launched from Earth. And, thus, humanity began to set its sights into the infinite realms of space.

World Information

No longer is the world contained in the limited realm of planet Earth. Now, with humanity and other races living in the gigantic arcologies in space, it really is the final frontier. Advances in science and technology have made living in this new world quite comfortable. The arcologies support themselves and the citizens who live in them, providing food, water, oxygen, and the basic necessities for survival. Medicine and technology has given birth to nanomachines capable of destroying harmful foreign bodies inside organic races and repairing many kinds of wounds.

However, space is still very new to many of the new inhabitants of the arcologies. Methods of communication is spectacularly easy inside an arcology or a ship. However, inter-ship communication is still quite a challenge, particularly when huge distances, larger than the radio technolgoies of today could traverse, separated arcologies from ships. In addition, there was a need (or, rather, a curiosity that needed to be sated) for new planets to be researched and explored. Many people of various races have formed groups that could be hired by the governments or private individuals to explore new worlds, or deliver messages, or accomplish other tasks (of varying degrees of shadiness). These people are called Hunters, for many of them hunt for the jobs that offer lucrative rewards.

Races

There are four main races that dominate the world's culture: Humans, Androids, Beasts, and Newmans.

 • Humans: They're the people who created the other races. The demeanor and ability of humans is as varied as the stars in the sky.
 • Androids: Originally created as a tool of service, Androids have become a legally-recognised race of their own. All androids, by law, are required to be sentient, though many of them are still optimised for certain purposes in mind. With new advances in technology, biological android creation (a robot made to look and feel human) has been a possibility. Androids are rational and focused on their tasks. However, even with installed empathy chips to better interface with more emotional races, many androids are utterly incapable of understanding the subtleties of emotions.
 • Beasts: These are genetically modified humans, another human creation designed as a tool of service. They have now attained equal rights compared to humans. The DNA of Beasts have been spliced with animals, thus creating beings of potentially incredible feats of strength and alacrity. Beasts are also capable of morphing into super-powerful versions of the animals with which they were spliced. Their empathy with wildlife has proven useful when scouting new areas or communicating with animals and other beings in new worlds, but the feral tempers normally associated with animals can make many a Beast hot-tempered easily.
 • Newmans: With the creation of the Ether Drive (ED), a piece of technology that utilised brain activity to create effects that mimick magic and break many scientific laws, humans created Newmans, beings with significantly increased mental strength, to best utilise the powers granted by ED Devices. Newmans are empathetic and (perhaps overly) sensitive individuals, sometimes even described to be capable of reading mental thoughts of the other races (save for Androids). They resemble elves.

Ether Drives

An Ether Drive is a unique device created by humans which utilised the mental powers of an individual to create effects which mimicked magick. It is, physically, the size of a watch that is usually attached to one of the wrists. It is a device powered with the user's mind energy that creates a certain effect: a fire ball, a bolt of lightning, or perhaps a small storm of ice. The effects are programmed into the ED using small memory cards inserted into the data slot of the devices. Androids, while possessing a processing capacity significantly more powerful, rational, and logical than even the smartest Newman, are incapable of using such devices.

Rules

 • This is a DM(s)-Moderated RP. Whatever the DM(s) say is what goes. The current DMs are: Sentama Lin. Currently, the story is controlled by this DM: Sentama Lin
 • People will make only one post after each DM post, to ensure that the story doesn't get ahead of all participating individuals. This is a measure to help people from becoming lost due to too many events, and also accomodate for the RPers who have busy schedules.
 • Please do not godmod, but I feel this is a given rule.
 • The DM is the person that will respond to all non-obvious interactions with the environment (finding a certain item in a container, successfully hitting a non-player character, etc.). Example, if a player says he looks inside a container, the current DM will decide what item, if any, is found inside the container.

These rules should be self explanatory enough, I feel.

User Name:
Character Name:
Appearance (Tektek or Description):
Description

Current Characters
User ImageNius
Played By: Bass20XX

Making up for his perceived inadequacies as a standard Human, Nius has augmented himself with various pieces of technology. The shield on his shoulder, whilst modest in appearance, is a radar and communication device. The radar is capable of detecting movement within 10 meters of Nius and notifying him on the HUD in his visor, unfortunately it struggles detecting Androids. The device on his chest is actually his Ether Drive, upgraded and augmented far beyond accepted practices.
User ImageEuphra
Played By: dark_wyvern_panda

Euphra is a Fox Beast. He was trained as a teen to be a hunter, and to be extremely sensitive to noise and movement, but in turn his ability to smell was lesser than normal. Euphra was always interested in scythes and thus was trained to be quite skilled with them. He was fairly strong at close combat and had very high reflexes. His ability with guns was not grand and so he often did not use them.
User ImageNaomi
Played By: kerrigan_dragon (Hand-Drawn Image of Naomi by Kerri)

Naomi is a human, and thus constantly feels a bit inferior to the non-human crew of the H.S. Kamaitachi. She's a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, pretty smart for a human and can do a bit of anything she turns to, enough to get things done, though not always well. If she has hours or days to do something, like hack a computer system, or fix the engine, she can do a pretty good job of it. She's mostly blind in one of her eyes, and can only see things really close up, due to an exploding engine accident in one of the jobs the crew had a while back, and is very sensitive about that eye. She can read information coming on her eyepiece at lightning speed though, and that eye now can move independently of her other one if she so chooses. Despite her ability as a jack-of-all-trades, her main job on the Kamaitachi is as a researcher/log-writer/linguist. She's quite adaptable to the situation though, and follows orders well. Androids make her uncomfortable, as she doesn't understand how something can emote and not understand what emotion is, so she avoids Sophia when she can. Naomi loves re-colouring her hair, and changing hairstyles in general. "It's part of who I am" , she will say to anyone who asks.

User ImageFog
Played By: Viral C (Hand-Drawn Image of Fog)

Fog used to be human before he volunteered to be altered into a beast using multiple animal genes that were never identified to him. As A result he became the abomination known as "Fog", H.S. Kamaitachi's dirty little secret. He has no known alternate form and often attacks random foreign beings to him for food. He communicates through growls, roars and groans but if there is a high listening ear they can hear words within them. Fog suffers a case of schizophrenia as his human and monster conscious fight on what to do at different times and can add up to random violence so Fog is recommended to not make public interaction.

Fog has a high metabolism which requires him to eat a lot of the time so he is often seen stealing food or hunting food. Most refer to Fog as more of a monster himself then a Beast.
User ImageIsara
Played By: pickle relish

Isara is a Newman, and joined the crew of the H.S. Kamaitachi a few months ago. She has been known to read minds, but only when someone is feeling an extremely powerful emotion, such as grief or rage. She serves mostly as back-up for other hunters, specializing in guns in addition to her ether drive. She sometimes uses her intelligence and empathy to mediate arguments between others.

Non-Playable Characters
User ImageSophia

Sophia is an android built to weapons-grade specifications, but has been programmed with an optional Empathy Chip. Her body is made of a mixture of liquid metal and silicon, giving her a human-like feel, albeit a bit cold. She is also quite heavy due to her components, and will definitely sink to the bottom in water.

She is the main source of information for the H.S. Kamaitachi crew, and also manages crew finances. Finances are smooth, and all Hunters of the Kamaitachi are paid modestly, but jobs have been hard to find lately, giving her a sense of frustration (well, as much frustration an android could feel). In addition to managing crew finances, she also doubles as the main navigator of the Kamaitachi bridge.

DM Post

H.S. Kamaitachi, a transport vessel, orbitted lazily around the U.N Lachesis, one of the many arcologies funded by the United Nations. Compared to Lachesis, Kamaitachi seemed to buzz around the larger vessel like a fly flying around a skyscraper. Kamaitachi, after all, contained only a hanger, sleeping quarters, a dining area, and the bridge. The Lachesis was more like a country: artificial farmland, residential complexes with comfort levels ranging from dormitories to large family suites with multiple rooms, commercial and industrial districts brimming with products created on-site or imported from other arcologies, and other comforts unfathomable to imagine centuries ago. Kamaitachi was a tree, while Lachesis was a dense forest.

Sophia sat alone in Kamaitachi's cafeteria. It was a modestly built dining area, but it had an expansive view of all the lights from Lachesis, which seemed to never dim or turn off, save for the rare moment when someone slept. Sophia looked at the window listlessly, though she wasn't admiring Lachesis. Androids had better things to do than admire a large mass of metal and light. She waited for something, anything to happen.

"This is boring..." Sophia sighed as she pressed a button on a table-mounted keyboard. The glass which showed Lachesis dimmed slightly and displayed a window called "Mail" while another window displayed "Television - News" opened in the backgrouned. The observation glass was multi-purpose. "Nothing..." She said, for no new messages arrived, and the news was uneventful.

After another small while of waiting, a message popped up on the screen. Sophia's attention perked and immediately opened the contents of the message. With widening eyes she inputted some commands on the keyboard, activating the ship's intercom, and began to yell into the screen.

"Guys, guys!" She exclaimed excitedly. "There's a job!"

Isara lay sprawled out on her bunk, reading some old book from Earth. It wasn't that interesting, but there wasn't much else to do until they got a new job, short of spending time with the crew. And that could be...stressful, at times. Even when she couldn't read their thoughts, she understood what they were feeling, and it made her feel burdened.

It was almost a saving grace when Sophia turned on the intercom. A job meant something to do, and something to distract everyone, including herself, from their troubles.

After quickly linking into the ship's computer and checking Sophia's location, Isara rolled off of her bunk, and headed to the cafeteria for a briefing.

Naomi sat cross-legged on the floor of the bridge, staring out at the huge Lachesis, trying to estimate how large it was, how many thousands, no, millions of people were in there. She gazed upon the vessel with a child-like wonder, utterly amazed and overwhelmed at the thought of so many people in one place. It was one of her favourite passtimes; to go into the bridge and just stare out at space or whatever was before her and think. It was relaxing too, not having to deal with anyone else, having a bit of peace and quiet...

Sophia's call over the intercom disturbed her peace, and she quickly checked on her eyepiece where Sophia was, then sighed and stood up and walked slowly to the dining area, dragging her feet.

"Bloody Android. I swear, one of these days, I'm gonna get a big magnet...." she muttered softly to herself as she went the longest route she could go to the dining area, going through each nook and cranny of the ship.

Fog sat in a dark messy room lit by a red light and he was eating a slab of raw meat from a cow and quite viciously at that as if it was new prey that was still struggling, a bell around his neck put on him by Naomi so they would know where he is rang small but repeatedly fast tones, he tears pieces off and blood from the meat flowed down his mouth.

He stopped eating when he heard the intercom and Sophia said there was a new job, He wasn't a very socially acceptable creature and didn't even get to go on the last 4 jobs the team was assigned so he was desperate for a bit of action sense all he did was patrol the ship, eat, and sleep. He looks at the intercom and doesn't know whether to go or not seeing as he doesn't get deployed that often, he decides there's no point and just starts on his food again in the same savage, unmerciful manner as before. if they needed him he was just down the hall anyway, no big deal.

Euphra was meditating in the Hanger, away from everyone else. He barely noticed the announcement and could barely make it out. He was training his mind to be as fast as his body. Forcing himself to see multiple combat situations and to react. He twitched. He cut off the images in his head and opened his eyes. He got up and turned to look at his mobile suit. It was tall and black, wielding A long silver rod, that was his scythe. The suit was animal like, and the fusion-power core was located in the tail. It was currently off, so the tail was closed and seemed like a normal add-on to the suit. He walked toward the hanger exit and toward the cafeteria.

Smoke drifted lazily from the end of a soldering iron pressing the pin of a resistor to a circuit board. Nius blew on the patch of melted solder to get it to dry quicker, this board had to be replaced before Nius' equipment could be used again; the last job cost him his radar. With the repair complete, Nius carefully placed the board inside the shell of his shoulder pad, which sat next to the lamp. After connecting the internal connecters and closing the shell, Nius placed the shoulder pad back onto the connectors on his shoulder.

"Finally, now I'm not crippled." Nius stood up and stretched, his back popping loudly. The radar booted up and started reporting on Nius' visor HUD. For a few seconds the return was garbled until the computer loaded the plans for the ship. The intercom crackled into life and a picture of Sophia appeared in the left corner of the HUD, "Guys, guys!" excited as usual, "There's a job!" Nius sighed lightly and gave his equipment one last check. Sophia was in the cafeteria, her radar signature bobbled and weaved as usual. The system still couldn't properly detect androids. Nius suspected it was something to do with the materials they were made from, but had been unable to check for sure. He opened his door into the and made his way to the cafeteria.

Sophia nodded to each of them as they entered. She had a cordial smile, though she could not understand the reason for it; it was all because of the empathy chip's control of facial motions.

She waved her right hand to motion to the group to take a seat in the cafeteria, which resembled a greasy spoon diner. Booths were placed in front of the observation windows of the ship, lit up with an individual hanging lamp. Opposite the tables was a bar with padded stools. Another android, a male bartender dressed in kitchen whites with a beaming smile and well-kept hair, stood washing some dishes, ready to respond to anyone who needed a drink. H.S. Kamaitachi used to be a small, but luxurious, cruise liner that traveled, hence the queer accommodations for a hunter group's ship.

"Well... it looks like we're all here, save for Fog." Sophia said once everyone took a seat. "Here's our job."

With a press of another button on the keyboard, she motioned the group to look at the observation windows closest to them. Each window displayed scrolling information about the job, and pictures. The scrolled information included dry facts about their client -- this time a private research company of no real known notoriety to any person of the group -- and a 3D model of a ship.

"I know, I know. It's not higher than our last job..." Sophia said with a sigh, opening the Reward window, which showed a 1 000 000 Credit reward. "But it's enough to get an overhaul on the carrier and each of our ships, with enough money for us to get our little odds and ends."

She clasped her hands and sat down at the bar. "So... should we take it? All they want us to do is track down their ship, find it, check for survivors, and salvage anything worth value. They provided us with coordinates and a private communication channel with which to contact them for further information. If we accept, of course."

Euphra loked at the information. He was thinking it over slowly. "
we should go with a little extra in ways of fire power. Its not a big deal, but just in case..." he trailed of, wondering if they should really take the job.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 11, 2009 4:42 pm
"Well," Naomi said slowly, mulling over the different aspects of the job and their need for money in her head as she spoke, "it seems like a simple enough job, with a fairly descent pay for something so simple. And work has been getting a bit on the scarce side..." Her thoughts turned to Fog and she frowned. "But guys," she continued, glancing in the general direction of the living quarters, "Fog hasn't been out of the ship in months. He's starting to get... fidgety. You know how he is. He needs to move, you know? Or he might eat one of us." She didn't really think he'd do it... or at least, she really hoped not. But it was concerning. It was like lately everyone was trying to ignore him. True, his presence could make things a bit difficult, but he was one hell of a good weapon... Naomi shook her head to clear her thoughts.

"I don't even really care about the money at this point, personally. I think we can survive for a bit longer how things are. I'm caring more about the people on this ship. And I think Fog is going to go insane being cooped up in here." She looked around at the rest of the crew with exacerbation. "If you guys think he can go on this job, I say we go for it. If not, gorram you guys, I'm not going on another mission without him."

Nius downloaded the information into his visor and began cross-referencing the 3D model of the ship against his database. Whilst the system searched for results, Nius scanned through the rest of the info for the job. It certainly seemed simple enough, salvaging was one of the easiest jobs the could be asked to do. And for 1,000,000 Credits it was almost a steal. There's got to be a catch. There always is. An icon appeared in the top-right corner of the HUD, a positive match.

"I do believe I have a class match for the ship. If my database is correct, It's an Elrus class cargo ship" The Elrus class ships had been built for transporting "hard cargo", items of technology or other non-perishable goods. Essentially, a floating treasure trove for any any raider around. Most Elrus class ships had been retrofitted with basic weaponry, but nothing substantial. Certainly nothing good enough to defend against two or more raider ships.

Isara listened calmly to the others' responses, but something else was distracting her. She could feel Fog's emotions, almost like they were seeping out from underneath his door. He always had the strongest emotions of anyone on the crew, but although she could often read his mind, she understood him the least. How anyone would choose to become a beast, she---

No, stop it. Pay attention to what is going on, Isara scolded herself, and tuned back into the conversation, just in time to listen to Naomi. She waited for Nius to finish, took a breath, and stated her opinion.

"I believe we should take this mission. And...I agree with Naomi. Fog is getting restless. We should take him with us. Especially if we don't know for sure what we're facing." She looked around at the rest of the crew, unsure of how they would respond.

Fog was in his room and he put the cow slab in a ice box with his name spray painted on it. he gets a munch of pig heads out and places them on rollers about his height so they were head level to his 6 1/2 foot tall body and he set one to 5 foot tall, there was a total of 4

he stands in front of the first one and brings his head back then with a angry slam he headbutts it and it rolls back and slams into the wall, he feels the head and there was a good crack in the skull. he walks over to the next one and he headbutts it with another cry of pride and a bit of frustration. he looks and there was a good nasty dent in the skull. he went to the next one and hit it harder and the slam was louder against the wall, he checks and there were a good number of cracks, enough to do critical damage and potentially kill if lucky.

He goes up to the last one and he hits it hard with a roar and it slowly rolls back and he feels and there was a hole in the skull surrounded by cracks, he gives a growl then goes into the freezers with his large blade and looks at the cows hanging. he swings his sword and it cuts halfway through the cow and he gives a monstrous laugh. he puts the blade down and then punches another cow multiple times making it rock jerk around as he roared with each punch, he tears the meat back and checks and sure enough he broke the cows ribs. he punches it some more til it was rocking back and then he stops it mid swing with a headbutt.

He gets his blade and goes to his room and he puts it down and lifts a large box onto his back and starts lifting it like a heavy weight and he stands on the fronts of his feet as he does so to practice balance and strength

He makes a series of growls that could only be heard by Isara and they said "siiiiilllllllleeeeeeeeeenceee theeee diiiscooooooord" but when Isara heard this she heard 5 eerie voices talking at once, and he continued lifting to build his strength
