I've always wondered why people used text talk in forums. I can understand when you are texting, but while sitting down at a computer not moving trying to make conversation. It's hard to take someone seriously when they start out like this, "Hey ur cool, lets talk, u can post hre"

How or really why do people talk like that? I really do want to know. Lets start discussing.

either a person is so addicted to texting that they naturally type that way or they are simple very too lazy to spell out words.

True, when I see it happening, it's only one or two letters they are missing. It gets really annoying to see rlly, if that's how they do it?

Well, when at the computer, I believe most people who type like that haven't actually learned how to type. They may tap one key at a time with the same finger, at a turtle's pace.

*tap*... ... *tap* *tap* ... ... ... ... ... ... (Oh, I found Q.) *tap* ... ... ... (Where's U?).

I can see that. However, that's how I started, I advanced to typing with two fingers now. However, I'm probably the fastest two finger button presser there is.

There is another reason. Any others out there?

I type with two or three fingers, and use my thumb for the space bar.

Habit. Too true. Now my wonder. Is it too big of a habit that people have written like that on say, a school paper? Hm, I just wonder.

I use homerow, the way I was taught in elementary.
I don't even bother looking anymore.
Even when I text on my phone, I tend to write out the full word and use proper grammar.
I agree, it takes no effort to write properly, so why not do it?
:/
I'd guess at laziness or ignorance.
Like they really don't know how to write without using the abbreviations.

I have one answer for this. And really it is more of a theory than an answer. I believe it is because we are American. We become drunk off of the freedom. We Americans abuse freedom. Americans abuse freedom thus creating lazy users on the computer. People have become lazy, immature, and rather stupid. I am not referring to anyone in this guild except those who are obsessed with text talk. It amazes me that we have become so lazy that we cannot even speak properly. I am sorry if this reply offends you. I tend to speak my mind. This is my theory whether you like it or not.

Text talk/speak really shouldn't be tolerated. It's not a language, they do not offer a course on how to speak and spell using Text Language.

I know for a fact that a few years go, not mentioning where, they let *ENGLISH* students used text shortening techniques in the Exam drafts. When your writing an essay in an exam draft: One should not need text talk as a shortening technique. It should in theory be a no more than a few sentences on what you are going to say in a paragraph, with maybe a quote depending on the topic.

It is by far the worse thing ever. This place how ever did bar it the year after, seeing as it was not a language.

I think its just immaturity.
I play a game called kingdom of loathing, which has mature comedy and is designed for a mature audience because of this. And it actually attracts mainly this audience. And when I'm chatting on it, if there is anyone using 1337 or text speak, they will be bashed by some, and politely asked to use proper english by others.
It's a beautiful place.
Actually, there's an item that will correct text speak/1337. But most don't use it, because they don't need to.

I don't think that it should be used ever, no matter what the medium.

In browser, its on kingdomofloathing.com

The graphics, though, are stick figures, but it doesn't need good graphics.
