Yes. My eyes are bleeding. MAKE IT STOP!!
Not at all. A great character (with room for improvement, like all of them)
Could use some moderate spiffing up.
No, and he's so boring that my eyes are bleeding.

I have never had a character score so low on the Sue Test. So I'm just making sure he's not boring. Also getting a second opinion.

Peltier Rinwas is Altese (from Altais). His parents moved to Astair shortly after he was born. His father abandoned him and his mother when Peltier was just under two years old. Peltier has no siblings, which is almost unheard of in Altese culture but is fairly common in Astirian (from Astair) culture. I'm not sure yet why he has no siblings, but I'm sure it's something to do with the fact that he has so much magic aptitude.

Peltier has studied at the Academy of Astair his whole life (well, since just after his dad left). He's training to be a Master, one who has full mastery (or nearly so) of a very broad range of magics.

Basically, he finds a blue book and then has to go find some sagey-people to gain their power so he can fight the evil villain (who turns out to be his dad... sort of) while his friends are fighting the villain's minions.

Make what you will of it. If you want more contextual information, here is the (sort of lengthy) Story Concepts post.

What's his dads reason for leaving them? You need a sure reason as to why he doesn't have siblings, you can possibly base some faults off it.

Don't say he's studied at the Academy his whole life if's he's only been studying there since he was 2... which is silly.

Basically, he finds a blue book and then has to go find some sagey-people to gain their power so he can fight the evil villain (who turns out to be his dad... sort of) while his friends are fighting the villain's minions.

How is the evil villain sort of his dad? He either is or isn't.

How old is this character? He doesn't seem to have much of an evenful past, unless you're leaving some stuff out... and I hope you are.

And I'll be honest, I only read some of the story concept. I stopped reading after learning that the rurals and peasants were black, and royals were white. A bit racist, imo, and I'm sure other people will notice (i'm not offended by this, just pointing it out).

Off topic: What a long test. I'm happy to know my favorite OC isn't a Mary-Sue though (he scored a 20, yay).

His dad is a complicated character. Tyren had the Book of Khastair for at least three years before Peltier was born and it's been changing him pretty much since he found it. He has NO magic ability whatsoever and it is really hard for him to cope with his wife and child being so talented because he feels like he can't really do much for them. And Khastair (through the Book) is playing this insecurity so that Tyren will basically do his bidding.

As for Peltier's lack of siblings, the original idea was that his mother's acquisition of such high magical aptitude kind of ruined her reproductive abilities (heavy duty magic is not a good idea when you're preggers).

He hasn't been studying since he was two, technically, but his mother was, and he lived in the Academy. He started "studying" at a young age, though (kind of like preschool). It sounded better in my head.

The villain has turned his dad into an instrument of eviltude, and Dad is now the physical form of the villain in a way (because Khastair is still locked up in that stupid book).

Peltier is seventeen when the story starts. He has had an uneventful past, and that's kind of the point. He's just been studying and making his merry way without much trouble. Most of the land is at peace, and he's sort of sheltered from news of petty battles and such (the headmaster and Peltier's tutor both agree that it would interfere with his instruction).

I shortened the story concept and took out the physical descriptions of the races (and not because I read your post). I swear I wasn't even thinking about it being racist (bad Andi, bad!)... but I took that part out anyway (to shorten the overall concept), so now nobody will know/be offended.

Ahh, ok! That makes sense. =P

So, if you go with this idea, anyone with an abnormally high amount of magic abilities can't reproduce? Or is she a special case?

For that part you can say he was constantly surrounded by magic growing up, so picked it up easily.

No love life/interest? =[

- So, if you go with this idea, anyone with an abnormally high amount of magic abilities can't reproduce? Or is she a special case?

Any *woman*... It's not that she can't, it's just really really freaking hard. And apparently it didn't happen to her. And generally speaking, because Astirians have a higher aptitude as a whole, an Astirian woman with a high aptitude (rank 0, say, which is pretty high) would have more reproductive success than an Altese woman with the same aptitude.

- For that part you can say he was constantly surrounded by magic growing up, so picked it up easily.

That and he has a naturally high aptitude for magic. But yes, I guess I could say that he picked up the control fairly easily (which is somewhat difficult for some higher-level children).

- No love life/interest? =[

He has a love interest, but she's Astirian, which presents some issues. Most Astirian-Altese children don't live past their first birthday, because most of them are premature (differences in growth rates between the two races). And he's kind of expected to have kids... it's the Altese culture (and he is still Altese, no matter where he grew up). Plus she's a princess, which he doesn't really know, cause she isn't the crown princess and therefore doesn't really care that she's a princess (she'd rather be mucking it and studying medical magic).
His mother does not approve. Nor does anyone else, for the most part.
In my original plans, he actually goes to stay with his mother's parents for a while in rural Altais and they arrange his marriage with a girl in the area, whom he's gotten to know during his couple of months there. But I dunno about that anymore.

Hokay, so... I took Lyv's ref sheet and went to town on it... Peltier got a remodel, so anyone who wants can pick away at the new one. smile Also, almost the entire world of the story got an overhaul in the last couple of days (ever since I got a map and an obsession with Seventh Sanctum).

Peltier Rinwas, as outlined using Lyvidian's character ref sheet
BASIC INFORMATION
Name: Peltier Rinwas
Nickname: referred to by some as Master Rinwas
Age: twenty-three (almost twenty-four)
Birthday: it’s really not all that important to the story, so...
Gender: Male
Nationality: Ânha
Hometown: Reyon, Ânha
Current residence: Academy Tower, Deônh
Social class: master mage

APPEARANCE
Height: 5'2" (medium for Ânha men, short for Deônh men
Weight: 120 lbs
Hair color: Dark brown
Eye color: sea-green
Glasses or contact lenses? Neither
Skin tone: Pale, typical of Ânha
Dress style: standard Academy dress (black/blue/red shirt, black blazer, black pants, black boots) or Academy Formal (navy blue formal jacket, red pants, black dress boots, silver sash)—marked on blazer and jacket with rank emblem

EMOTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Strengths: self-control, gentleness, tranquillity/levelheadedness, "poker face", can exert himself to a decent extent before showing effort
Weaknesses: family, past, often oblivious, low self-confidence, extreme calmness at inappropriate times (misconstrued as apathy)
Introvert or extrovert? introvert (because he's pretty much deathly afraid of losing the control he's worked so hard to master)
How does the character deal with anger? very carefully, usually by aerobic exercise or deep, slow breathing; sometimes by crying
With Sadness? crying (it's the one emotional outlet that he is not afraid of utilizing)
With conflict? diplomacy first, magic later
With change? he deals pretty well with change; he actually likes it
With loss? he's rather numb to loss—or so he thinks, anyway.
What does the character want out of life? he wants to learn to control his magic so well that he feels comfortable having strong emotions
What would the character like to change in his/her life? he deeply wishes that he could have a romantic relationship (but feels that it is too dangerous—passion is among the strongest and least controllable of all emotions)
What motivates this character? his ability to do a lot of good
What makes this character happy? seeing others happy, making others happy
What makes this character mad? bullies, tyrants, his father
Is the character judgmental of others? no; he does not want to be judged himself, though he often is because of his past
Is the character generous or stingy? quite generous; being a master, he has little that he can't get himself, and a lot he can give to others (love is one of those things that he can't get by himself)
Is the character generally polite or rude? he's very polite, and carries a Concise Review of Etiquette and Policy in the Nine Kingdoms shrunken in his blazer

FAMILY/HISTORY
Mother: is currently living at the Academy. She is a grade-A crazy-house candidate, but Peltier insists on caring for her himself. After Peltier's father left her, she slept with quite a few men of note (and notoriety) and had children by them. She was in and out of Peltier's life after he was enrolled in the Academy when he was six, the same time her life took a turn for the worse. She had been girlishly, madly "in love" with Peltier's father (she was very into romance when she was a girl), and is now looked upon poorly by society in general (in Deônh and Ânha, anyway—having many mates/partners is common in Radân, for example). She was put in her current mental state by a couple of vengeful ex-courters who were burdened with a few of her illegitimate children.
Father: is currently absent. He abandoned his wife and son about three years after his marriage for no apparent reason (he loved them both, a plainly obvious fact); in reality, it was Khastair (the overarching, main villain) who drove him to it. Peltier is not very popular in the eastern cultures because of his parents' delinquency.
Siblings: Peltier has about twelve half-siblings (his rough guesstimate; it's difficult to know). His oldest sister, Nya, is three years younger and they are very close (see below). He doesn't know most of his other siblings, and the ones he does know of he never talks to. Most of them are servants in their fathers' houses.
History: His father left when he was two, his mother enrolled him at the Academy when he was six. Her presence was spotty at best. His father's old friend, Seamas, took the boy as a pupil and had a direct hand in Peltier's upbringing. Though he knew that he was no replacement for the boy's real father, Seamas felt a deep fatherly pride and affection for Peltier. Peltier is a private-study student at the Academy, and Seamas has taken him to visit the eight other kingdoms multiple times as part of his training (after all, a master must be well-versed in customs, etiquette, and dialects of all nine kingdoms).

CHARACTER CHEMISTRY
Characters role: Main Character
Relationship with other characters:
1. Nya, his sister: She is two years younger than Peltier and they are very close. She is an illegitimate child, and is picked on because her mother is crazy and she's a halfling. She confides in Peltier and goes to him for her primary source of advice—and also as her primary contender and protector.
2. Seamas, his tutor: As previously described in "History"; Seamas had no children of his own (his wife and unborn child were murdered by very evil things many years ago), and originally took Peltier in out of pity rather than a desire for a son or care for family of a friend.
3. Mother: Over the course of the story, he thinks about her and talks about her with other characters, but because he's away from her most of the story, he doesn't interact with her often. He feels an obligation toward her to take care of her, as she is his mother.
4.
5.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
· Character's short-term goals in life: master his own emotions, find a girl, move out of the Academy & live (mostly) on his own, take a course in temporal alchemy
· Character's long-term goals in life: help his mother and siblings, find his father (or find out what happened to him)
· How does Character see himself/herself? Peltier knows he is dangerous and often doesn't trust himself enough to loosen up (he is afraid he will lose control, and he knows that it is dangerous to do so even for a second).
· How does Character believe he/she is perceived by others? He thinks others look down on him for his delinquent parents, and doesn't realize that the majority of people look up to him for his magic ability.
· How self-confident is the character? He is self-confident in that he knows he can make things happen when he concentrates, but he is very unconfident in his level of control (he will slowly come to realize that he can unconsciously control the flow of magic to a substantial extent).
· Does the character seem ruled by emotion or logic or some combination thereof? He makes decisions based upon a combination of logic, with his intuition held in higher regard than logic and direct observation. He is careful not to let his emotions get the better of him, though, for fear that he'll hurt someone with his guard down.
· What would most embarrass this character? If he had secret affections for a young woman, and those affections were exposed, that would likely embarrass him. Or going to do something he was sure he could do, only to find out he can't.

So yeah... have at him.
