I've had this character for a while, and I love him to bits and I'm not changing him, but I'm making this forum to ask what you think of him. I personally think he is fairly develped but I know there are questions you could ask that I'd have to think of an answer for.
So, I'd like you guys to use this forum to say what you think about my character, and if you have questions about things you want to know about him, go ahead and ask smile --- His name is Hayden Kirsten, and he is a half-vampire who was born from a vampire father and human mother. His birthday is October 13, 1995, which makes him 14. (15 in october) He has one sister, Melina, who is a year younger than him.
He goes to a public high school with his closest friend Bryce Fuller, a born full vampire (whos parents and older brother are all human strangely), and they met when they were very little. Both of them met Kyley LeRue (aka Kitten) and Morgan Janelle (aka McJazz) and the 4 of them started a band together called Paranormal Alliance, or Paralliance for short. Hayden is the lead singer and plays electric guitar.
Hayden's father, Kevin Kirsten, is a full time doctor, about 150 years old, but he only looks about 30. He is never home, and because he is very strict, Hayden tries to avoid him when he is home.
The mother, Melissa Kirsten, is a stay at home mom in her early 30s, and is a very loving mother but also very clueless most of the time, and is often portrayed as a caring kind of ignorant.
Melina goes to a catholic junior high; her and Hayden don't spend much time together. When they do, its usually arguing, or (play) fighting, but they can be decent towards each other when they need to be.
Hayden's house is a very big, old style mansion-ish type place, with hardwood floors and a giant organ. Everyones bedroom is upstairs except for his. His door is painted black, his walls are red, and his bedspread is black. His room is usually a mess, covered in clothes and paper, and you can barely see his desk with everything that is on it. Connected to his room is a private bathroom that no one else can use but his friends.
His diet consists pretty much of bottled blood (Kevin takes some from the hospital), but he will occasionally eat an apple or a banana. He can't keep down most human food, but a raw enough steak does just fine. He also loves spaghetti and meatballs and hates shepherd's pie.
He is the only one in the house with a laptop, and he pays for his own internet.
His likes include: Track/Field [running], reading, hanging out with friends, jamming, and swimming. His dislikes include: Writing [apart from music], his sister, homework, strenuous physical work, constant complainers.
When he was young, he was innocent and clueless, but also very stupid at times. Usually the butt of blonde jokes, Hayden still lives up to that title.
At age 14, Hayden went through a phase. He dyed his hair black, got all black clothing (with a little bit of red), wore black eye liner, and defied his parents like mad. (They were non too pleased. Kevin actually got a little stricter because of it.)
Also at this time, Hayden started to develop insomnia. It was mild and he didn't notice it at first, until he found himself unable to sleep for days on end. After a few months, it got him into trouble. Too restless to stay in the house, he snuck out and ended up downtown. Most people ignored him, but the ones that his attention caught were the prostitutes.
Nothing happened, he managed to get home safely, but he couldn't shake the adrenaline rush he'd felt when he went out. He stayed home for a few more nights but ended up sneaking out again. One of the prostitutes eventually convinced him, as he'd become quite the perverted teenager.
He stopped before anything serious happened though, and over the next week couldn't help but feel that it had been wrong. Both what he did and who he had done it with. He had believed himself to be straight up until this point, but over the next year, he snuck out more and more, and eventually figured out his tastes for men.
Just before he turned 15, he lost his virginity. His parents had yet to find out about his sneaking out, but Kevin could smell it on him when he came home and he was punished severely; even got a mild beating. He promised his parents he'd never do that again, but after about a month he realized he couldn't hold up any longer.
He became even more secretive about it, his parents absolutely clueless to his renewed sex life. After the first few months, he'd stopped paying for it, and instead became one of the very hookers he'd tried to avoid in the beginning.
His parents did eventually find out about it again, and have tried numerous times to help him, including keeping him at the house, making him get therapy, and go to group sessions. None of them helped.
It was around this time that Bryce had gone down an equally dark path, as he'd started getting his hands on drugs and selling them. Bryce is one year older than Hayden, but still not legal, but he managed to hide this better than Hayden could.
Naturally, both of them did drugs for awhile, but Hayden replaced drugs with cigarettes after Bryce realized he could get his hands on them due to his older brother.
Being half-vampire, neither the drugs or the cigarettes effected him badly, and he didn't use them very often at all, so no one figured out about that part.
Despite all of the bad things, Hayden is actually pretty smart, and managed to keep up his grades. The only solution to his insomnia was sleeping pills, but he gets sick the morning after taking them, so he only took them when he didn't sleep for more than a week.
In between all of this, he somehow managed to keep up with everything, and soon it became a habit, a second nature. ---
I know he sounds like a douche, and it seems he has no reason to do this, but even now I'm still developing even more intricate back story. Like I said, ask questions and maybe they'll help me XD
LMAO also sorry about how long it is, but I guess that means I've developed alot about him??? I don't know. >w<

Erk...that's the biggest cliche I've ever read...anyway, time to ask questions!
Not only is he a sterotypical teenager, but he had no reason for any of this, as far as I've read anyway. Did you make him to be a cliche, or is he just underdeveloped?
Also, did you ask yourself why he made that change? If he had no viable reason, he shouldn't have a huge personality switch. The hugest mistake some writers make is going down that path, they didn't follow anything in the first place.
Did he have parent problems, trouble dealing with something as a child, a friend lost? Anything that would follow that path?
And this one is just me talking, but I absolutely hate the cliche teenager gothic hooker path, it's kinda overused. But keep it if it's what you want, that was just my personal taste in characters talking. Sorry sweatdrop
That's all.

He seems really blah to me. I'd try to help you improve him, but you seem to like him as is.

He might be fine if he had an interesting story to drive him. A story just about his life as a teenage halfbreed / coming of age story with him would be pretty lame, unless you are leading a book club for preteens who need something to do before noon on a Saturday.
My questions are... What is the purpose of the vampireism? What rules of vampireism do the full and half breeds follow? or like.... what effects them? sun? garlic? Do they sparkle? how important is blood to them? can they eat regular food? s**t like that.
He sounds believable, I guess but very average to the line of almost the perfect sterotype. But then again, if he has the right story he'd be just fine.

The truth is, I've been playing around with the idea that his father abuses him, but I haven't made it a solid detail yet.

I suppose I don't really have a purpose, my problem is that I love vampires (NOT the twilight ones) but I wanted one that I liked, related to the humans but wasn't totally human acting himself. The sun gives him a headache if he stays out too long, too much garlic makes him sick, NO SPARKLING, the only thing he can have is blood (but he can also have a raw steak occassionally) And not to sound snooty but I know I mentioned the food thing in the original post.

I notice that everyone seems to not like him, but to tell you the truth, the writing that I did does him no justice. He sounds like a boring cutout of stereotype-ism, but when I use him in role plays, thats when he actually becomes a character that I find interesting. I know he's not the best, but I do like him.

Bitter Love Biter And not to sound snooty but I know I mentioned the food thing in the original post. Yeah I missed it forgot about it in between the thirty million other tabs I work in.... it happens. :/ one day I'll learn to scale it down, one day. I guess it also confuses me as to what human foods this guy can hold down, it sounds like it should be light foods, but pasta is pretty heavy and filling. Maybe I'm thinking about it too much... probably. I'm very happy they don't sparkle- I didn't really think they would... but it's hard not to ask sometimes. What with the bad reputation vampires have unfortunately have been given and that jazz. Since there is a difference between RP writing and character development (or at least thats the way it usually seems to me) and regular fiction, that makes a difference a little in my opinion of him. Just a personal thing I guess.
