Just curious, want to get back into writing but I always tend to make character bios... except I'm never satisfied with how I do it. -_- I Can't seem to properly explain it in a way that doesn't confuse me later .... how do you guys do it? Mine tend to read like Wikipedia entries which may be part of my problem, but I don't like just listing the traits either.

When I write my traits down, I even describe how and why they do the things they do.
Like... Johnny No Name
"Don't touch my stuff" :: Johnny hates it when his best friend, Jon Doe, comes over to hang only to clean his room. Though he finds it helpful, Johnny has his own ways of cleaning. Not to mention that he knows where to find his personal belongings. His personal items are for him to touch, and he can not stand the fact of other people (friends or family members) move his items about.
Yeah... redface I hope that helps. redface

I do flaws and virtues, three sometimes four for each.

When I typically write a character bio, I usually write it in a roleplay format. It hits on all the points I need and it works well for me.

I don't do personality traits. I do their physical characterisitics, helpful skills, important possessions, and then a paragraph or two of their personal history prior to the events of my story, and their current motivation.
Their personalities arise naturally from their background and their interaction with other characters.

Woohoo thank you smile
I do try and focus on getting personality for history normally with characters I make up, but in this case they're all rp characters from a fandom with no timeline makes that harder. razz Thank you for all the help, I think part of the problem may have been my format... too much repeated information. ;P

What I did to help me along, was I wrote the character bio as if the CHARACTER was writing it themselves. Helped me get the spirit of the character down, as well as how they talk and respond to certain things.
Just my personal way, though.
