I've been on an airplane alone a lot of times, especially as a kid (though when you're six they basically assign you a flight attendant to nanny you). But I've never done any of the other things.
Yeah, it's definitely in the same general direction, it's just missing that final "I'm screwed if I mess up" step.
Hmmm... I also wonder if it's different now because that was probably pre 9/11? Well, that only really came up twice for me, I guess, 'cause once you're on the other side of security then you can stay there.
It's interesting how Austin's airport had much tighter security because it was smaller. At SEATAC they were so busy they had everybody keep their shoes on, didn't have us take out our toiletry bag, didn't have us take out our laptops, didn't put us through the naked scanner, etc.
(Probably even more surprising is my suspenders triggered something on the scanner in AUS but not on the metal detector in SEATAC.)

What day was your Internet friend's wedding? Just curious since I was up in Seattle yesterday for Taylor Swift's concert and my friend and I passed two different newly weds doing their photoshoots.
I know how traveling on your own can be - exciting but a bit scary at the same time. I traveled down to L.A. in June by myself. That was my second time flying; the first was to go to Maui with my parents back in 2007.
What hotel did you stay at?
It was August 8th but I don't think they were doing a photoshoot? The wedding was at a church in Renton east of 167 so not in Seattle proper. They were there for the whole ceremony and only left in the car at the very end. So... probably not them, but I guess this means there were a lot of weddings in the area at that time?
Second time flying for your first on your own could be pretty scary. I recall at least 3 airplane trips with my family before this one. The only real concern I had was the TSA stuff since that was pretty new, but before then I think we even went to pick people up at the gate so I was sure I'd find my way around inside... but navigating the area around by car is confusing! You follow the signs but get spun around so many times that you just don't know which way is north anymore...
I stayed at the [Clarion Hotel on E Valley Rd](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Clarion+Hotel/@47.446464,-122.218047,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x54905d1a362773a5:0x9ae6c7001e31d59e). I'll have videos uploaded to Youtube at some point if you wanted to see although I'm only making slow progress in processing them at the moment.
