Professor Thorsten Eckstein/// Former Keltainen at Durmstrang///
About the Professor:
Thorsten Eckstein was born in Germany and has recently come to live in Scotland with his daughter Cornelia. Attending Durmstrang Institute the once timid boy landed himself in Team Keltainen. After witnessing the murder of his mother and incarcerating his own father, Thorsten began to toughen up. As such students my find him to be intimidating if not a tad creepy. Although secretly quite nice outside of the classroom and professional setting, this German wizard has a deep interest in the afterlife and has since before his mother died. If you happen to have an interest in the dead then you might fight Thorsten to be right up your ally.
About the Class:
The class is taught in a classroom on the third floor that is decked out with preserved animals, you name it it's probably in the classroom. The subject itself teaches students about life after death. Everything from how to tell a ghost from a Poltergeist, to dealing with Ghouls and Inferi this class covers it. If you have an interest in ghosts and ghouls this is the class for you.

Please Note: Each student must attend a minimum of two lessons or face losing house points. Unless reason is given either in the absent thread or through private message. If reason is given it will count as if you were present for that class lesson.
Make Up Assignment(s): For anyone wishing to make up for missing a lesson or just want extra house points, feel free to write an essay on a topic you missed and submit it to my office before the end of the year. (A small paragraph will do.)
This was Thorsten’s first class and despite not being nervous, he hoped things went well. He’d never taught a room full of students and he’d never been the social type. Sadly this was never a situation he found himself in, however Thorsten did it to himself. He just needed to be himself, teach the students, and prepare them with the knowledge to pass OWLs next year. Looking over the lesson plan for the day he was pretty sure he could handle it.
Sitting at his desk as his students arrived, Thorsten hardly showed any expression as he looked to see theirs. He wondered how many of them questioned the stuffed corpses. Getting up and going to the front of his desk he leaned up against it before flicking his wand to the board revealing the rules and the subject topic on the board. “Good morning and welcome back to ghoul and ghost studies.” Thorsten greeted before continuing his introduction. “I am Professor Eckstein you’re new professor. You will follow these five rules when in my class. Be on time, prepared and ready. Pay attention, no wands, and be involved.” He informed them.
“Now, I would like names and houses from each of you. As for me I attended Durmstrang and am former Keltainen. That would be a mix of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw here I believe.” Thorsten asked of them before adding. “While we do that let us do review, one topic each please.”

Selina was unsure what to make of the new G&G professor, although his dark hair and pale complexion gave him something of a Goth quality in her eyes. She supposed it came with the territory, when one associated with a subject so close to death. She was intrigued to see the preserved specimens around the classroom, again serving as a reminder to students the nature of what was being discussed, namely the subject of death.
Selina stood and bowed her head politely, as was drilled into her at a young age, and said in her whispery tones, "Grey, Selina Grey, Ravenclaw House, sir. One of the subjects we covered last term was naturally that of how ghosts are the disembodied spirits of a witch or wizard, whom was either too afraid to progress to the next existence or bound to the living world by some fetter, usually a location."

Hufflepuff │ Seeker │ Fourth Year
Layton walked into Ghoul & Ghost Studies, to be greeted by the appearance of a new professor. He seemed to be well-suited to the job--hell, he almost looked like a ghost himself. He took a seat beside Selina and looked around the room. He was a bit taken aback by the corpses. It didn't seem all that necessary, but then again, he wasn't the professor so what did he know? When it came his turn to introduce himself he stood up and smiled slightly. "Layton Bannister, Hufflepuff house, sir. We also learned about immortality last year, which is of course living forever, to put it simply."
Listening to his students it looked like they paying attention the previous year. At least Thorsten didn’t have to worry too much about that. Of course it would be more of a worry come next year’s testing. “Nice to see you paid attention and remember, 10 points to each of you.” He said before going on to what the lesson would be. “For the rest of our time we will be discussing traits of ghosts.” Standing up from his leaning option at the front of his desk, the German wizard flicked his wand at the board once more. The board wiping clean and a piece of chalk started writing the notes for the lesson. “I suggest taking notes down from the board.” He gestured before continuing on.
“You should know the traits or characteristics of a ghost I assume, Hogwarts has a few. They are transparent versions of their former selves, appearing grey silver in color. Now ghosts cannot move objects but it does appear that wind can cause movement with ghosts.” Thorsten told them as he walked around the room. “I don’t suppose any of you might have a theory as to why that is?” He asked pausing for a moment seeing if anyone knew the answer before going on. “It should be noted ghosts have hard time talking about their deaths as one might expect. They do celebrate their death day however.” He finished as he made his way back to the front of the classroom.
“Now if you have any questions, feel free to ask.” Thorsten told them as he looked up at the clock. “If not then you are dismissed. Next week we will get into ghost abilities.”

Raising her hand, Selina offered, "If you mean why wind might effect a ghost, perhaps because its the Material World's way of trying to sweep away something that doesn't quite fit with what's supposed to be there. If you mean the converse, perhaps the breeze is a manifestation of the ghost's own innate will, or because the air is disturbed like the way water is churned up by the passing of a ship."
"I do have a question, though. I've heard tales that ghosts are also frightened to be in the presence of their own mortal remains. Is this so?"

Listening to Selina as she answered his question Thorsten nodded. "Those are interesting theories Miss Grey, 5 points for Ravenclaw." He told her. "As for your question, I imagine some might. However, I've never thought to ask one. Perhaps, that's a question you should save for when we have a ghost visit our class. For now it's just a tale." He finished rewarding Selina another 5 points for Ravenclaw before dismissing the class for the day.

Thorsten had done a whole week of classes and was feeling pretty good about it. He had bright and intelligent students in his fourth year class he had to admit. Sitting at his desk as his students arrived, Thorsten hardly showed any expression as they took their seats. Getting up and going to the front of his desk, he leaned up against it before flicking his wand to the board revealing the subject topic on the board. “Good morning,” Thorsten greeted before getting into the topic. “Today we will be discussing the abilities of ghosts.” He informed them before the board wiped clean and a piece of chalk started writing the notes for the lesson.
“The abilities of a ghost probably are as easy to figure as the traits of them.” Thorsten told them as he walked around the room. “They essentially fly, are weightless, and can pass through solid objects. They create disturbances in water, fire and air; changing the temperature around them to be icy cold, and flames appearance blue.” He listed off before making his way to the front of the classroom. “It should be noted ghosts cannot be destroyed although they can become petrified.” He finished before leaning up against his desk. “Now any questions?” Thorsten asked scanning the room.

Selina was taking her usual careful notes, as the professor discussed the properties of ghosts. "Professor, I've read about the case of Sir Nicholas, and how he was petrified by the gaze of a basilisk which was set loose in the school, when the Chamber of Secrets was unsealed. How can a being whom does not have a physical presence in the Living World, aside from ectoplasm, be petrified?"

Leaning up against his desk, Thorsten looked over the class. When Selina asked her question, he looked over at her and thought it over. How can a being that did not have a physical presence in the Living World, aside from ectoplasm, be petrified? Thinking on it, it was a very complex question. He had to give Selina credit for her thorough questions. “That is very good question, I’m not sure anyone knows why exactly. However, I might have theory.” He told her honestly. “It may have reason to do with ghosts were once living beings. Thought, that still just a theory.” He explained. “Hope that answers your question Miss Grey, 10 points for Ravenclaw.” Thorsten said before adding. “Any more questions? If not class dismissed.”

Thorsten sat at his desk as his students arrived. He hardly showed any expression as they took their seats. Getting up and going to the front of his desk, he leaned up against it before flicking his wand to the board revealing the day’s plans on the board. Today was going to be a tad different they just didn’t know it yet. “Good morning,” Thorsten greeted before getting into the event for the day. “Today you will be meeting a ghost or ghosts.” He informed them.
“You can ask them what you like, though please be polite.” Thorsten told them giving a slight warning to anyone who tried showing disrespect. He didn’t think he had anything to worry about with this group though. “So I will give the floor over to you and them for the day.” He further explained. “It is open discussion, so have fun with it.” He finished before taking his seat again at the desk. “Now I’d like to welcome our guest(s).”

As was her custom, Selina made sure she was one of the first to arrive for her class, so she could take her usual seat, and have time to get out her materials without being rushed. "Hello, Professor," she said, offering him a warm smile. "I've been looking forward to this particular lesson. In fact, I've got a bunch of questions already organized to ask our guests."
To illustrate her point, she dug into her bookbag, and took out a number of index cards, each bearing a series of interview questions written in her usual neat handwriting.
OOC: I'm hoping some of the ghosts which are played appear, so Selina can actually interview them.

Blue flames flickered in wake of the translucent man in uniform passing through broad sets of moving staircases until he was levitating down the third floor corridor. Motionless feet trailed half a meter high as he ghosted through the hallway lined with arched windows to his right and portraits and doorways to his left. A sudden chill crept into the classroom as the silver-grey shadow of a man phased through the stone wall and entered the classroom. Despite the lack of colouring, the grey trench coat and fitted button down garments were the standard, non-descript uniform of an auror. Acknowledging Professor Eckstein first with an appreciative nod for the invitation to speak as a guest in the classroom today before he turned his attention to the cluster of students gathered.
”Good morning students, I am Auror Beauregard Dante—or was, I suppose—anyway, please feel free to ask me anything.”Bo stood straight stiff at attention, hands neatly folded behind his back as he stood at the head of the classroom and analyzed each of the students in turn.

As their guest appeared in the classroom, Selina did a quick of sketch of the former Auror's face, which she would clean up and a do a proper job of later (if nothing else, it was a good practice for her next period Art class). When the floor was opened up for the discussion, Selina had her note cards in hand, and was ready to get started. She raised her hand, and waited to be acknowledged before speaking.
"Good morning, sir," she said politely, in her soft tones, before saying, "If it isn't too impertinent of me, I should like to ask the obvious questions. How did you come by your present circumstances, sir? Was it in the course of your duties as an Auror? As a follow-up, do you recall anything of the transition between your former state of being, and your present one?"
