It had been a few days since the rockslide in the mountains. It was only by chance that the Wolf Clan was nearby when it happened.. and that a few among them were quick to point out the trouble it almost certainly caused. The mountain was the one the Jini-misemi inhabited, and that knowledge caused them to linger when they would normally have been preparing to move on again. Before they could settle on a plan to investigate, Badiliko-geni (Meepfur), brother by marriage to the Mantis Clan's alu'nadi, found the Wolf Clan first. Together, Badiliko-geni, Ukahada Waya and Tsine'rehsa Waya made a plan to give a home to as many members of the Jini-msemi as needed it. Or even just safe place to recover from the disaster until setting out on their own.

The Wolf Clan prepared by doubling their hunts and gathering up what materials they could to make ornaments to make their guests feel welcome. When the Jini-msemi refugees arrived, taking the lead with Badiliko-geni was the former queen La`u Khara`i (Meepfur) and her consort, Vyoga-kwaa (Ecavi). Once everybody had a chance to settle in, Ukahada set up to make everything official. He knew Badiliko-geni and his desire to find his brother and settle with the Mantis Clan, and the former Queen and her consort hoping to find their families and settle in the Bird Clan.. he suspected there were many like them. But for now, they would become members of the Wolf Clan. With or without permission of the wanidatsi.

Sitting beside a pile of colorful feathers and leather, Ukahada waited to officially welcome the Jini-misemi to their new home.

How to Join - IC

  • Approach the nvwati, introduce yourself and accept a feathered item from him. The Wolf Clan is responsible for crafting all the accessories worn by the entire pride, they are offering them to the Jini-misemi as a show of welcome.
  • Only former Jini-msemi members may join the Ela'wadiyi in this RP. This is a special scenario that is not going through the proper channels ICly, Ukahada Waya and Tsine'rehsa Waya are acting without the knowledge of permission of the wanidatsi.
  • You may backlog pilgrims into having been home when the Jini-msemi was disbanded, but that means you have to make sure their name has changed.
  • Your lion must approach Ukahada Waya, the Wolf Clan's nvwati, and introduce themselves. ICly, Tsine'rehsa is dealing with the less formal aspects of taking in the refugees while Ukahada is going to deal with learning their names and preparing for their inevitable discovery and dispersal.
  • All lions who joined today were brought to the Ela'wadiyi by Badiliko-geni (Meepfur), La'u Khara'i (Meepfur) and Vyoga-kwaa (Ecavi).
  • All Jini-msemi refugees will be staying with the Wolf Clan until the wanidatsi finds out, at which point they may be dispersed to other clans as he sees fit. Anybody with family in other clans is not permitted to go looking for them, for now the top priority is getting everybody settled and taken care of after the landslide.
  • ICly, this is delaying the usual migration of the Wolf Clan and they will be staying by the mountains much longer than normal.

How to Join - OOC

  • You may submit up to 2 Jini-msemi members to join the Ela'wadiyi, there is no pre-approval process except the following:

    • Only one may be a random selection. If you bring in two lions, at least one must have a relative in the pride as part of their motivation to join.

      • EXCEPTION: If you own both partners in a mated pair, you may bring both regardless of family connections, but no other lions.

    • Natural colors are preferred by not mandatory.
    • Plain coats are preferred, they make tattooing much easier when you breed, but not mandatory.
    • Characters must be willing to accept the strict marriage laws of the pride, whether enthusiastically or begrudgingly.

  • Please carefully consider who you bring into the Ela'wadiyi. We acknowledge that this is ICly an easy, obvious answer for many of the Jini-msemi but we don't want to be flooded with characters who join just because they can.
  • If you have a clan preference, please list it when you post. IC and OOC preferences taken into consideration, but remember that they're staying with the Wolf Clan for a while!

About this RP

  • All Wolf Clan members are welcome to join in and meet their newest clanmates! Or they can simply watch the parade of newbies talking to Ukahada, if they prefer.
  • Only new members are required to approach Ukahada, this is for IC and OOC purposes so I know who to add to the list.

Tsine moved through the gathering, greeting familiar faces of those of her clan with a nod and smile, while welcoming the newcomers with warmth and gentleness. They all looked so worn and distraught! It pricked her already soft heart to see them suffering. Some were injured, but others seemed only to be mourning the loss of their home. They had been through so much, she had no qualms about accepting them into the clan and the pride. It wasn't properly traditional, but it was the right thing to do, and she could do no differently. She cast a grateful look her brother's way as he solemnly accepted the pledges of the newcomers and gave them their Wolf-made tokens of belonging. They had been of one mind on this, and eventually would face the consequences together too.

She brushed thoughts of the future aside and turned her attention back to the crowd. This would swell the ranks of the clan for a while, which would put more stress and work on the hunters. Hopefully some of the new members would be well enough to help hunt, but for now, they would be treated as guests and cared for. After losing their home, they hardly could be expected to immediately pitch in. Still, she had faith in her clan to step up and help care for the refugees like they were family. After all, some of them were family to Wolf clan members already!

User Image

Hupomeno glanced back at her caregiver as he nudged her before taking a deep breath and stepping forward. It had been one thing to leave the pride's lands on pilgrimage, knowing they would return. This... this was entirely different. They wouldn't be going back, and were hereby accepting a new pride as their own forever more. A chill rippled down her spine, making the fur fluff a little. You'd think she'd be used to changes, since her illness was always throwing her for loops randomly, but this was different.

Still, it seemed to make the most sense. They had family here, and it was at least nearby to where they had been born and raised. Here they would find support and love and comfort, which might be hard to find elsewhere. She was a little hesitant about revealing her illness to her new clan members, but surely it would all be okay?

She had been told the nvwati was actually a relative of theirs, though with all those tattoos, it was hard to see a resemblance. She swallowed her nervousness and finally spoke to the round white lion before her. "My name is Hupomeno," she said, still feeling a pleased twirl inside herself at speaking her new name. She'd had it long enough to become used to it, but it still gave her pleasure. "Thank you cousin, for accepting us into your pride and your clan." She tended to call anyone not parent, sibling, grandparent, or aunt/uncle by the title "cousin", even her caregiver, though he really wasn't her cousin. She bent her head to accept the leather pouch and feather, then gave Ukahada a tremulous smile and stepped aside for her caregiver to have his turn.

User Image

He hadn't fared so well in the rockslide as Hupomeno had, but he was glad for that small blessing. Even if he'd ended up with a gash on his head and a paw that made him limp, he at least could rest assured that she had escaped injury. She healed slowly already, and would have had trouble with even this journey had she been hurt by the calamity. So he watched her placidly as she introduced herself and was welcomed, ignoring the throb of his paw and the itchiness of his healing gash. When she stepped aside, he moved forward as confidently as his limp would let him.

"I am Paracaleo," he introduced himself, "and am also grateful for your welcome." He gave Ukahada a flash of a smile then, and said more softly, "But you can call me Cal for short." He wasn't ashamed of his new name, no not at all! But it was a bit long, and if he was honest with himself, he kinda worried that it sounded a little too feminine. It had suited him regardless, so he'd taken it and made the most of it.

The loss of their home weighed on him, but it seemed he fretted much less about it than others, including Hupomeno. What was done was done, so far as Cal was concerned, and there was no undoing it. His heart ached for those buried beneath the rocks, but there was no removing the mountainside to retrieve them, and even if there had been a way, there was no bringing life back to those loved ones retrieved. It was his philosophy to move forward, leaving the past to itself while he found a new future for himself and Hupomeno. Perhaps here was where they were meant to be all along, after all!

He bent his head to accept the feather earring, not bothering to wince at the piercing. After all he had seen Hupomeno endure, and after all that the chaos and pain of the rockslide, this little p***k was nothing. He raised his head again with a sunny smile and moved on to stand beside his charge, nosing her reassuringly and then glancing around to see who they might meet next.

((Hupomeno and Paracaleo would like to remain in Wolf Clan.))

She had returned for less than a moon before the landslide. Formerly known as Kifani, the dark green lioness Kifalme'Laini kept looking over her shoulder towards what used to be her home with what seemed like sorrow in her pale blue eyes. How many no longer drew breath, killed in the wake of nature's fury? She felt hurt for them, and those who had lost loved ones. She worried about her own family and siblings, too, but ever the selfless lady, others came first.

When she wasn't reflecting on the home left behind, she was trying to help the injured and distraught. When she finally had time, she went to Ukahada Waya, a tired and weary look upon her face as she offered a smile.

"Thank you for everything. I am Kifalme'Laini," her smile turned to brow-knit concern, "Your clan will not get in any trouble for helping us, I hope?"

((she will stay in the Ela))

Elowehigili was stunned..he didn't know what to make of all these....newcomers. He seemed to often just stand dumbly, looking at all the new faces, with no names to put to them, unlike the familiarity of his clan mates. Elo didn't like change, or unfamiliarity. It made him feel insecure, and out of place and he was trying to hold his temper. It made him twitchy. He was lending his efforts to the hunt.

La'u Khara'i was a shadow of the Queen she had once been. It seemed so long ago when everything that she wanted had been hers: a pride, taken from her brother not by force, but by simply revealing his deception, his sin. She had not even been full-grown then, when she revelaed the truth that resulted in his exile and her own ascension to power, nor when she had had her first litter, quick to secure her line by producing heirs. It was only after that she had bothered to take a Consort, and even then it had been an event, a competition. Everything was part of a plan, fueled by a desire to be beloved not by an individual, but by the pride as a whole, as her grandmother had been. To be looked up to, adored, and to eventually live on in memory as a great ruler, a bright star the equal of Asali'jua.

But then had come the fire, and after it, a sharp decline in her health that forced her to abdicate and pass the title of Queen to one of her daughters. Still, she had held out hope of guiding Samudranta and the pride in a more quiet fashion, taking on a role as a Noble and respected elder. That had been going well enough, until the mountain turned against them as the swamp had. Their land, their pride, and her dreams now lay in ruins.

For the first time in her life, she had no schemes, no motives. She had only regret. Regret, and cracked and bloodied paws, claws dulled and pads torn from futile attempts to dig through the rubble, because her daughter was missing. Her daughter was missing, and she had never told her she loved her. Not once in all her life had Khara told her, or any of her other children, that she loved them. Appearances and legacies were important, not feelings. What little mourning she had done upon the death of her father had been mostly for appearance's sake, but not this. This was real, and raw, and she hated it.

She wanted to dig until she couldn't dig any more, but Vyoga and duty had stopped her. They needed a leader, and so for a little while, she was Queen again, just long enough to make herself the last, releasing the Jini-misemi to go their own ways in the world. And this was the way she would go, to the Ela'wadiyi. There was no shortage of options, family and connections scattered here and there, even another daughter who had returned to the swamp with a small contingent to establish an outpost there, and yet...Khara wanted no part of returning, of trying to rebuild what seemed to be cursed. No. She would stay here with Vyoga, and live quietly for the rest of her days.

She shed the jewelry she had proudly worn for years, all but the owl-feather earring, and stepped forward to officially present herself with the others. Ukahada knew her already, of course, but formality mattered. Khara bowed her head low, but did not speak. What could she say that she had not already said? How could she convey their debt to the Wolf Clan, not only for taking them in but for taking responsibility for them?

The silver-tongued lioness offered only silence.

Vyoga-kwaa was a large lion, one who towered over many of the lions who now offered them welcome and a safe refuge from the unkind mountain. His primary concern through everything had been Khara. It had been the only way to keep him from giving in to the same grief that consumed Khara. So much of his own family was unaccounted for, even Tokeo was missing, and his heart ached to say goodbye to those friends he knew survived as they departed for more familiar lands to call home.. but his place was here. It hadn't been love that brought him and Khara together, but that didn't stop the big clumsy oaf from loving her, dedicating himself to her. This was their best choice and so he was here, at her side, where he belonged.

He followed along close behind her when she presented herself to the nvwati, offering a weak smile and no words of his own.

Ukahada's demeanor was somber, but his mind was filled with mixed emotions. His grief for the Jini-misemi only grew as they presented themselves, some looked sad, some defeated, a few injured.. he only hoped that with time that good cheer would return to them, and that the Wolf Clan would join him and Tsine in making that happen for them all. He had great faith in them. He had had less faith in Galiha, the 'spy' sent to them by the wanidatsi, but she must have grown to trust them more.. or perhaps the plight of their new members touched her heart. He was grateful for that, they just needed time before they would turn themselves in for acting without the wanidatsi's approval.

He offered smiles to each lion who approached him, sometimes sad and sometimes genuine. The bright purple of a few that approached caught him by surprise, but he had known to expect it- his father's brother might be among them, and his mate was purple. It was unusual but it was a sign of blood.

"Welcome to the Wolf Clan," he said, offering Hupomeno, Paracaleo, and Kiflame'Laini soft, pale color feathers to stand out against the bold colors of their fur. He gave a reassuring smile to Kifalme'Laini, "Rest easy, the wanidatsi is not here but even he wouldn't turn away friends in need."

When Khara and Vyoga approached, he smiled sadly. Noting that the former Queen already wore a feather, he offered them leather items instead. They had already spoken so he said nothing, only offering their gifts and a nod of respect.

Thokozani hadn't been back for long when the mountain fell. It had been her home for her entire life, and now it was gone together with many of the lions she'd known. Sure, she'd visited other places when she completed her pilgrimage, but without ever feeling at home in those lands. She'd been there with a purpose, and when she'd find her name she'd go back. Some pilgrims she'd met out there had talked about staying in some other pride, or just living as a rogue instead, but she never understood why. Sure, she knew that not all pilgrims returned, but she'd always assumed they'd got lost or something. She had never imagined that they willingly stayed away. Why would they?

And now she was about to move somewhere new. There was no going back.

"I'm Thokozani," she said quietly as it was her turn. It was a miracle she managed to make any noise at all since her mouth was dry like a desert. It was still unfamiliar to hear her own name, despite the similarities to her baby name. Thokozani, 'be joyful'. She hoped she'd find joy again in this pride, but right now it felt as if she'd never be happy again.

((No clan preferences, just let me know where she ends up!))

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Lilija had come back with a smattering of others after the mountain fell. She was homeless just like many others and it didn't sit right with her. The blue lioness stayed as close to those she recognized from her old pride as she could without actually knowing many of their names.

But now she was here. About to go to another pride in search of something to call family.

She was approaching the nvwati now and watched him for a long moment. She'd never been apart of any other pride before. She was eventually going to make herself look like a fool for not knowing some ritual for their way of life... Lilija imagined she'd have help. She had to stay positive. Making her nerves calm back down, Lilija held her head up and spoke. "I am Lilija. I'm very thankful for your welcome and acceptance." She ended up bowing her head to the male and swallowed thickly.

It was when her head was bowed that she accepted her necklace. When she raised her head again, there was a hesitant smile on her face. That was it. There was absolutely no turning back now.

User Image It felt like she'd been dancing in the rain, finding absolute joy, only the other day, and returning home yesterday. When she'd left the mountain, she'd been Ai, an expression of her mother's love of the world. When she returned, she was Ten-fon, dancing away in the rain. It had felt like a wonderous sign from above, relating to her unmet father's pridal home with the Stormborn. Her heart, though, was with the lions she'd grown up around, and it was to the mountain she had returned instead of chasing her father.

And then their world had crumbled before them, as rocks slid down. Many had simply left, her mother included, to other lands. They sought many things, family in many cases. Ten-fon had considered heading to the Stormborn, to find her father and any family she had there. But instead, she followed their queen, the faces she had known since she was a cub, to the lands that had been just below their home. Now she followed the others to the white lion of the clan, gaze shifting down in shyness. "I am Ten-fon, formerly Ai." She looked up at him, offering a smile as she accepted the feather and leather. "Thank you for opening your clan to us. It's very much appreciated."

The bright purple lioness' coat wasn't as bright as it had been. Not quite as sleek, the stripes muffled up together with the matted fur. Her eyes drooped as she approached the nvwati, offering a bow of respect and gratitude.

"I am Kianira," she replied quietly, her tone still clear and bright. As sad as her heart felt, she knew that taking a new step forward into the future was the only way to move past it. She herself had suffered loss before, and so was working to cope with the loss that just happened. Thank the stars that Jitokeza was still alive with her, as well as some of their children. "I would like to stay here, as long as we are permitted to. I am tired, but willing and able to help if you need a few extra paws with anything."

Jitokeza had already been talking to his brother, Sado, but followed close behind his mate when the time came to officially present themselves for membership. He was in as poor condition as Kianira but his plain coat hid it better than hers, and he offered a weak smile as she asked to stay and offered her services.

"We are happy to be among family," he added, not knowing what else to say, "Thank you for this kindness."

Of course, when the dust had settled, some part of him had hoped to go and find Sado.. but it had seemed a hopeless task, better set aside in favour of heading for somewhere more certain. It was a blessing that the Wolf Clan had been so close and that they were so willing to welcome them.

-

Ukahada continued to hand out feathers and take in the magnitude of the disaster in the mountains. He'd be surprised if no other clans had taken notice and changed course to check things out. Surely the Wolf Clan wouldn't be the only one to realize there was a pride residing there.

"Welcome to the Wolf Clan," he said to each, making another mental note when Kianira and Jitokeza approached. They would be the parents of the purple lady who had been helped by the silver boy. Jitokeza certainly looked the part of family, and Kianira was the missing link in making sense of what he had already seen.

Haggard and weary, Gopala and her mate had finally made their way to the Ela'Wadiyi with some of the other members of the had-been Jini-msemi pride. Her formerly bright, pink eyes were red and the skin around them rubbed raw from trying to wipe away the tears she'd cried. Of all of her more than a dozen cubs, all had been lost. How was that even possible? A significant number of them had been out on their pilgrimages, so at least they had likely survived, but she probably would never see them again for the rest of her life. Her heart was broken. Paropakari had done his best to take care of her in her depression, but he couldn't replace their cubs.

Slowly, she approached Ukahada, with her head and eyes cast down.

Paro had been doing a little bit better of hiding his sorrow than Gopala, but he was only doing that for her sake. He was devastated also. But he had talked Gopala into coming to the Ela'wadiyi instead of roaming far and wide all over the rogue lands trying to find their cubs. Trying to find all of them would be impossible. Maybe this way, one of them would hear about how a lot of the Jini-Msemi migrated and joined the Ela pride.

"Thank you for welcoming us, Ukahada. I am Paropakari and this is my mate, Gopala. We lost many children because of the tragedy, whether they are alive or dead is unknown, but maybe someday they can hear about us here, or at the least, we'll be a part of a new family here." He offered a tired, slightly sad smile and took a feather for him, and one for Gopala.

It might have seemed odd that Beshtetu and his mate would end up here in the Ela'wadiyi instead of returning to the place of his birth in the Pridelands. And yet, though he had loved his home pride, the golden lion could not deny that he had also felt suffocated there. So many relatives there, hustling this way and that. Brothers. Sisters. Cousins. Nieces. Nephews. Aunts. Uncles. The list went on and on and on until it made his head spin. It was a nice place to visit from time to time. But to stay there on a permanent basis? Beshtetu was a little ashamed to admit that he hadn't been so fond on the idea. As such, when Kimya had suggested they make the move to join their neighbours when the Jini-msemi had disbanded, he had agreed swiftly - though he had tried not to sound too enthusiastic.

Still, there were no regrets - only excitement - as he approached the nvwati with his mate at his side.

"My name is Beshtetu, it is a pleasure to meet you. Thank you so much for welcoming us here."

side note: Khara/Vyoga, as catalysts in this arrangement, aren't being counted the same way as the others. If anybody feels this is unfair, I hope you'll forgive me x.x

Kimya shared her mate's reservations about picking the relative strangers in the Ela'wadiyi over a pride filled to the brim with family members she ought to be pleased to have an opportunity to become more friendly with.. but their existence had never changed her path before, though her father had been kind enough to offer her a name when she asked. Like her mate, she appreciated them and enjoyed visits, but the Pridelands was not her home and trying to fit in with a family that had never truly known her was not something she wanted.

"My name is Kimya'kizuka," she said after her mate, offering a polite nod, "It's so kind of you to offer us all a place to go."

The Jini-misemi had been relocated far too many times lately for her liking, she ultimately supported Khara's decision to disband them. A drought, a fire and a landslide.. hopefully their poor luck would not follow them here. She was eager to see what spirits, if any, might be found in the lands.

Ukahada offered a sad smile when Gopala and Paropakari approached, knowing there were too many sad possibilities to even guess at what their story might be. He was taken aback when the male explained. He had no children of his own but his heart broke for them.

"Welcome to the Wolf Clan, Paropakari. And Gopala," he said, looking to the lady, "I hope your children return to you. You might be surprised to hear how often families are reunited here."

It wasn't a lie, there were multiple branches of multiple families that found their way into the Ela'wadiyi at different times. His own family was an excellent example of it, in fact, but it was not a story to tell. He offered the pair each a feather that would match their mate, thinking perhaps that Gopala could use some brightness more than her mate. Paropakari had more than enough without a splendid feather.

The bright yellow pair that approached next looked much more cheerful in the face of disaster. Just looking at Beshtetu, he could guess he was connected to the Pridelands- much about him, from his color to his size to his manner, spoke to their reputation.

"Welcome to the Wolf Clan," he said, offering them feathers as well.

Kiwidinok was still reeling. She had finally discovered her true name, only to find a charred husk where a swamp had been. The spirits had seen her to a rogue that pointed her in the right direction, but...only one of her siblings had returned, and her reunion with her mother was all too brief before the next disaster to strike the Jini-misemi. In the wake of the landslide, her mother Akili'kwa'hewa was nowhere to be found. Kiwidinok was adrift, bereft, and uncertain. After what seemed half a lifetime in the rogue lands, everything was now happening much too quickly. But she would make the best of it, and she would stay here. If--somehow--her mother or sister had survived, they would find it easiest to seek her here, where so many of the Jini-misemi had gone.

The lioness approached Ukahada Waya hesitantly, mismatched eyes flickering over the nvwati's tattoos. "I am Kiwidinok, formerly called Tawi. Thank you for this..." She wished, as she often had of late, that she possessed her mother's irrepressible cheer. It would have helped.
