Species- Leopards only, anything else will be chased off
Colors- Natural colors only. White, black, greys, blue-greys, creams, tans, browns, red-ish browns, some oranges (like orange tabby is ok; neon orange isn’t)
Breeding- Restricted. Adol breeding and hybrids are not allowed. Cross-Clan breeding is deeply, deeply frowned upon! Although it may happen on the rare occasion, any kits will be raised in the mother’s clan.
...........- Rogue breeding (? x mother) is possible with the realization any cub bearing non-natural colors will be forced to leave at adult.
...........- A male bringing random cubs back would be looked at askance. For Father x ? breedings, the mother is assumed to be a npc pride member.
Familiars- Not allowed, sorry. They are considered rivals or prey.
Joining- will be open at certain times.

TreeClan- Well-muscled leopards accustomed to stalking between trees, and climbing high into trees after prey.

History

Many, many generations ago there once was four great leopard Clans. So long ago, that not even the elders remember what they were called anymore. The four Clans lived in relative harmony. Until one leaf-bare; the cold season lasted much longer than normal. Prey became very scarce and warriors were hard pressed to feed the clans. The clans fought fiercely with each other over territory and what little prey there was. Many warriors were killed, and queens and kits starved.

One brave leader made a trip to Moonpool to speak with Starclan and see what could be done to alieve the suffering of the clans. He was gone for several days. By the time he returned he realized a horrible truth. His clan, not knowing where their leader had gone, had in ignorance accused another clan of kidnapping him and attacked. A ferocious battled had raged. Many of his warriors lay dead. Shocked and dismayed by what his clan had done, his yowls sounded over the sounds of battle. Startled to hear their leader, leopards broke off fighting to stare at him, but the damage had already been done. The leader of the accused clan and his deputy were dead.

Not much of his clan was left, and the other was left leaderless. The noble leader decided in the end to combine the two clans, for neither had enough members to survive alone. He took up leadership of the new clan.

However, the other two clans had fared no better. A diseased had been spreading over the past moon and now swept swiftly over the other two clans striking randomly with no pattern. Elders, queens, warriors, and kits all perished despite the medicine cats gallant efforts. By the time of the next Gathering, the two pitiful groups straggled into the clearing. Many were shocked and dismayed at the low numbers. Seeing the other two clans had joined made them pause and consider. Perhaps it would be in their best interested to also join their two clans.

Thus it was that four clans became two. The brave leader told of what he’d learned from Starclan. They must leave and travel to an unknown place. At first many yowls of protest sounded. This was their home! The leader argued that there was not enough food for them to survive and Starclan couldn’t guarantee the prey would run strong again in time to save the remaining leopards. It was decided they would move and find a new home.

The two groups traveled as one group as they searched for their new home. Many places they tried to settle they were forced out, or the place didn’t meet their requirements. A few despaired and left the clans to remain with those they had met along the way. The group traveled nearly a season until they came upon the spot Starclan had directed them too. It was lush with plenty of prey and no current occupants.

With the dangerous trip completed, the two clans separated out once more. Some joined one and some joined the other to follow friends or loves developed upon the journey. One clan decided to claim the portion of territory that was filled with trees of all kinds. They learned to hunt below and in the trees. The other can took to the adjacent plentiful plains of tall grasses. They learned to move undetected through the waving fronds. The new clans were called Treeclan and Grassclan.

Thus the clans were settled in their new home and time went on. The clans came together each full moon at their new chosen spot called tworocks to report any significant news, births, new ‘paws and warriors. Things were relatively peaceful, and only minor skirmishes over territory boundaries occurred.

A moonturn ago, Treeclan’s leader became ill. Their medicine cat Smokeflurry was unable to cure him and eventually Robinstar passed away. His deputy Brownstrike became leader, now called Brownstar. Smokeflurry soon retired to the elder’s den and Blackspeck has risen to be the new active medicine cat.

Treeclan and Grassclan have been quarreling over a stretch of land that borders both the forest and plains with each laying claim to it.

I will follow the ways of the Warrior.

Warrior Code:
~ Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with leopards from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.
~ Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan’s territory.
~ Elders, queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders. If any warrior or apprentice is sick or injured, they may eat while the elders, queens, and kits are eating.
~ Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
~ A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
~ Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
~ A leopard cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
~ The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies, retires, or is exiled.
~ After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
~ A Gathering of all Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among the Clans at this time.
~ Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing leopards.
~ No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.
~ The word of the Clan Leader is the warrior code.
~ An honorable warrior does not need to kill other leopards to win his/her battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or if it is necessary for self-defense.
~ A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.
~ Each Clan has the right to be proud and independent, but in times of trouble they must forget their boundaries and fight side by side to protect all. Each Clan must help the others so that no Clan will fall.

Exceptions:
~ Leopards on their way to the Mooncave are allowed to cross other Clans’ territories to get to their destination
~ Leopards may travel on other Clan territories if they have something to report or ask for help.

Additional Rules:
~ Medicine cats may not have a mate or kits.
~ Kits must stay in camp and are not allowed to hunt until they are apprenticed.
~ The safety of the Clan is more important than the safety of one leopard.
~ Clans must not force another Clan to share territory.
~ Enemy patrols must not attack leopards if they are on a mission all four Clans agree on.
~ Leopards cannot eat when going to the Mooncave to speak with StarClan.

Ranks:

Kit(cub)- Any kitten less than six moons old, still in the nursery with their mother.
Paw(Adol)- Any kitten over six moons old, in training to become a warrior, sleeps in the apprentice’s den. *Requires a Solo Vigil rp to gain Warrior.
Warrior(adult, unlimited)- Default rank, the majority of members, sleep in the warrior’s den.
Deputy(1)- The leader’s right paw cat in charge of setting patrols, hunting parties, and day to day tasks. They become leader when the leader dies.
Leader(1)- The leader of a Clan.
Medicine Cat(1)- Tends to the wounds, and ailments of the clan, confidant for the leader. Can read the signs from MoonClan. Cannot have mate or kits.
Medicine Cat Apprentice(1)- A Paw learning to the ways and mysteries of a medicine cat.
Elders(unlimited)- The respected elders of the Clan, cared for by Paws and Warriors.

*assumed rank: Queen(unlimited, female only)- Pregnant and nursing females. Queens resume warrior duties when their litter becomes paws and start their apprenticeships.

Dens:

Nursery- Safest den in camp, houses all pregnant or nursing queens and their kits.
Apprentices’ Den- Den shared by all apprentices
Warriors’ Den- Den shared by warriors and the deputy.
Medicine Cat’s Den- Den for the medicine cat and their apprentice. Also, where their herbs and supplies are stored. There is enough space for injured or sick leopards.
Elders’ Den- Den shared by the elders. When a warrior retires they become an elder.
Leaders’ Den- Den where the leader sleeps.

Naming:

Nature or natural based named preferred. Two names: one that follows SoA naming standards, and the other will be Warrior based. A helpful naming tool for you.

Special names
-kit – the cubs of the colony. (IE: Daisykit, Harekit)
-paw – a cub who has reached his/her sixth moon will become an apprentice and take ‘paw’ at the end of their name. (IE: Daisypaw, Harepaw)
-star – reserved for the leader of a clan. (IE: Daisystar, Harestar)
*For Warriors: they get a second word related to nature. (IE: Daisypetal, Harepelt)

Events:

Death- One last vigil is held under the SilverPelt after a member of the clan has died. Members share tongues with their clanmate for the last time.
Full Moon- Clans gather in peace to socialize at Tworocks, and share news with one another.
Gathering- When the clans gather at Tworocks under truce on the full moon to socialize and share news. If the moon is obscured by clouds then Starclan has decreed a meeting at an end.
Half Moon- Medicine cats and apprentices go to Mooncave to commune with StarClan.
Naming Ceremonies- When a Kit becomes a Paw, and when a Paw earns their warrior name, a ceremony is held to acknowledge their new names. All members call out the apprentice’s or warrior’s new name. It is performed by the Leader.
Warrior Vigil- When a Paw receives their warrior name, they must sit vigil in silence that night and guard the camp.

Terms:

Carrionplace- a twoleg dump site.
Crowfood- dead prey that has begun to rot.
Tworocks- The place where the clans gather at the full moon.
Fresh-kill- Prey caught and brought back to feed the clan.
Fresh-kill pile- Place where warriors and apprentices leave fresh-kill for the clan to get their food from.
Gathering- Monthly meeting of all clans held under truce at Tworocks on the full moon.
Loners/Rogues- Leopards living outside a Clan.
Medicine- Link Herbs and berries used by medicine cats.
Mentor- A warrior who is teaching a Paw the ways of the Warrior. A warrior may only have one apprentice at a time.
Moon- Time between full moons, usually about a month.
Mooncave- Place closest to StarClan. Every Paw must visit this place before being granted Warrior status. Where Leaders go with their Medicine cat once they attain their rank to receive their (assumed) 9 lives. Medicine cats and apprentices of all clans go to commune with Starclan at the half moon.
Moonhigh- When the moon is highest in the sky, about midnight.
SilverPelt- Refers to the stars in the sky at night. Also believed to be warriors watching down over the clans.
StarClan- Warriors who have passed on and watch from the night sky.
Scent-marks- The edge of a clan’s territory defined by its scent markers. Patrolled and guarded by groups of warriors and paws.
Seasons: Leaf-bare(winter), Newleaf(spring), Greenleaf(Summer), Leaf-fall(fall)
Share tongues- Social grooming and the forming of bonds.
Sunhigh- Point during the day when the sun is highest, about noon.
Tom- Males
Treetop- A low tree at one end of camp with a wide branch where the leader sits to address the clan.
Twoleg- Humans
Twolegplace- town or village where twolegs live.
Warrior- An adult tom or queen who had earned their warrior name.
Warrior Ancestors- Warriors that have come before and passed on to hunt with StarClan.
Queen- Pregnant or nursing female

Clan Meeting
Leader: Let all leopards old enough to catch their own prey gather here below Treetop for a clan meeting.

Apprentice/Mentor Ceremony
Leader: "(name)kit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as (name)paw. Your mentor will be (warrior/medicine cat). I hope (warrior/medicine cat) will pass down all s/he knows on to you.

(Warrior), you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from (former mentor), and you have shown yourself to be (quality) and (quality). You will be the mentor of (apprentice), and I expect you to pass on all you know to (apprentice)."

Mentor and apprentice will touch noses, then clan greets new apprentice by calling out their name.

Warrior Ceremony
An apprenticeship usually lasts six moons or more. There will be several assessments to determine their abilities as a warrior and their progress. Once a mentor is satisfied with the apprentice’s progress and skills, they recommend them to the leader. If the leader is satisfied, s/he calls a clan meeting and calls the apprentice.

Leader: I, (leader), leader of TreeClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. (S/he) has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend (him/her) to you as a warrior in (his/her) turn.

(Apprentice), do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?

Apprentice: I do.

Leader: Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. (Apprentice), from this moment you will be known as (new warrior name). StarClan honors your (virtues), and we welcome you as a full warrior of TreeClan.

*Leader rests their muzzle on the new warrior’s head, and the new warrior licks the leader’s shoulder. The clan greets the new warrior by calling out their name.

The new warrior must sit silent vigil that night guarding the camp while the rest of the clan sleeps.

Medicine Cat Apprentice Ceremony
*Leader will call a clan meeting*
Medicine Cat: Cats of TreeClan, as you know, I will not be around forever. So it’s time I took an apprentice. I have chosen a cat who has shown (virtues). Your next medicine cat will be (apprentice).
Leader: (Apprentice), do you accept the post of apprentice to (medicine cat)?
Apprentice: I do
Medicine Cat: Then at the half-moon, you must travel to Mooncave to be accepted by StarClan before the other medicine cats.
Leader: The good wishes of all TreeClan will go with you.

Mentor and apprentice will touch noses, then clan greets new apprentice by calling out their name.

Mooncave at next half-moon.
Medcine Cat: (Apprentice), is it your wish to enter the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat?
Apprentice: It is.
Medicine Cat: Then come forward. Warriors of StarClan, I present you with this apprentice. (S/he) has chosen the path of a medicine cat. Grant (him/her) your wisdom and insight so that (s/he) may understand your ways and heal (his/her) Clan in accordance with your will.

*Medicine cat apprentice enters Mooncave and touches nose to the glowing moss. Both mentor and apprentice lay down and have a dream from StarClan.

Medicine Cat Ceremony
Apprenticeships for medicine cats last much longer. The apprentice must learn about all available herbs and remedies, and the treatment of diseases and injuries. Once the medicine cat is satisfied with the apprentice’s knowledge they will go to Mooncave.

Medicine Cat: I, (name), medicine cat of TreeClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. (S/he) has trained hard to understand the ways of a medicine cat, and with your help (s/he) will serve (his/her) Clan for many moons.

Deputy Ceremony
When a leader must name a new deputy due to previous deputy dying, retires, exiled, or promoted to leader. A new deputy must be appointed before moonhigh that day.

Leader calls a clan meeting.

Leader: I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors (or former deputy) may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of TreeClan is (warrior).
