In the moonlit night, blotches of fur in different shades came together to make up a lion. He sat on his haunches, staring up at the cool light shed by the waxing crescent, the Great Lion's eye slowly opening.
They said that the King had lost the Great Lion's favor, that the Great Lion had ordained his death, and so he'd died. At the claws of his own sons, no less, but that was beside the point. Shangyue was dead, and it seemed quite clear that the Rebels were now taking over the pride.
This meant that most of the pride was giving a hairy eyeball to anyone affiliated with the King, especially Royal Guards.
Which prompted Yksivarinen to be sitting very still tonight, staring up at the moon, trying to figure out what he should be doing now.

Since Shangyue's death, Neema had been very happy. There was still much to figure out, but then.. she had been expecting that, and they all should have been. Perhaps they were after the little introduction to Nketa, it was telling that neither girl had immediately pounced on the opening.. but, left to Lailah, even Neema couldn't guess if that's what the shaman would think was truly best for the pride. She didn't doubt Liuhe would support his older sister's claim. But that wasn't the issue.
All of that aside, Neema was feeling light, free and happy and she was enjoying it. She didn't know how her mother could ever keep this kind of nonsense up for most of her life, but she hadn't been in a situation that required secrecy when she did it. That made the difference.
She was wandering along, wondering if it was time to start trying to prod answers out of Lailah, when she happened upon the still, staring former-guard. Her came to a stop, smiling as she watched him, but not yet approaching.

The royal family was supposed to be the most blessed of all the pride, with the very favor of the Great Lion Himself. So it was very very bad if the rebels were right and the King had lost that favor. Well, maybe they were right. The King was dead, after all. But if that was true, did that mean the Mwezi'Johari was still in trouble, even though the King was dead? Could his...his badness...spread to the rest of the pride?
As a Low class lion, Yksivarinen was protected by the pride as a whole, even though he himself held little favor with the Great Lion. But if the King's badness spread, should he consider trying to leave? The monochromatic male considered this idea. It might not be a bad one, but he really couldn't imagine going through with it. He liked his home. It was all he'd ever known. And there was no guarantee he'd have any kind of protection out there.
The lion sighed gustily, still staring up at the moon. "You're a very hard Lion to read," he told it.
