Territory
The Furaha call a patch of land hugging the hills home, a place just temperate enough to remain lush and green and perfect all year round. Prey is plentiful, with large herds of non-migrating beasts staying fat off the grasses, ready for a hungry lion to pick them off.
A bit higher in the hills, out of reach of the danger of mud slides, are the dens. The den area, while rocky, is pocked with holes for dens of various sizes. Running eastward, directly south of the dens, is a river, fast and swift and heading toward the sea, fed by a spring coming out of the council's cave.
Dominating the western skyline of the Furaha lands is a craggy jutting of rock the pride refers to as The Smiling Peek. Pride members are strictly forbidden from going there without the escort of the Joy Guards.
Curious cubs who are quick enough and stealthy enough to sneak behind the crag, though, may find particularly RED rocks, and a lot of bones...
History
Once, long ago, the world was so full of Sadness and Anger that lions were dying from it, left and right. Some lions, though, didn't agree with this and wanted to have a home where everybody was Happy.
So they traveled as a group for many miles, always trying to keep positive, never frowning even as some of their own were picked off by the Unhappy and the Angry. Eventually they found a mountain, and the elders of the group saw a vision of a smiling goddess from the craggy peek.
It was here the pride settled, their own little nestled land of happiness and joy. They called themselves the Furaha, the Happy, and vowed to never be Sad or Angry again, nor would they allow the Sad or Angry into their lands.
And thus the happiest utopia in Africa was made!

Beliefs and Traditions
Beliefs and traditions for the Furaha tend to get mixed up and mingled by the locals, so it's hard to separate what's a belief from what's a tradition.
The whole pride worships the Goddess of Happiness and no others.
There is only happiness in the world, and none may feel sadness or sorrow. Any lions caught being sad, or expressing dissent, will be taken to be assisted in finding their happiness again.
Repeated offenders, of course... Tend to mysteriously vanish. Hm, curious...
There are no single-parent homes, unless one parent dies or... Vanishes. Cubs may only happen between mated pairs, so if two lions have cubs, it's assumed they are mated. If cubs happen between a pair that's NOT mates with each other, but between two lions that already have other mates... Well, the parents tend to vanish, and the cubs are taken in by the Joy Guards.
The whole pride has one major prejudice besides against unhappiness and dark thoughts, and that's unhappy and dark coats. Coats should be bright and cheery versions of colors, from straight versions(Such as pure bright red, blue, or yellow) to pastel versions(Pink, that soft mint green, etc.). Dark and sad colors, like blacks and greys, are frowned upon and not tolerated, as are menacing colors, like dark blue and purple. Cubs born with such colors will... Vanish. That said, dark MARKINGS are okay, as long as they cover no more than 15% of the lion. Examples are as follows! (None are actually members, just lions of mine that I grabbed)
100% acceptable and idealAll four lions are bright, cheery colors, from white to sunny yellow to cheery pink to a bubbly blue and prissy purple! Also acceptable are rainbows, in both pure colors and pastels! Acceptable, 15% dark colorsDark colors cover no more than 15% of the lion, mane included in this! Unacceptable, too many Unhappy ColorsNone of these lions are acceptable! Too many dark colors on three of them, and one is almost entirely gloomy grays, something the Furaha would find... Unacceptable. Cubs born with such colors would Vanish.
Laws
Keep in mind that this pride is a dystopia - While everything APPEARS happy and peaceful and perfect, many pride members do NOT, privately, believe in the doctrine or the laws. They're just smart enough to NOT vocalize about it.
All citizens must smile - After all, the Furaha is a HAPPY pride! NOBODY frowns in the Furaha. Even pain must be smiled through. Always remember to smile, it's important!
There are no unhappy thoughts - One unhappy lion leads to many unhappy lions, and many unhappy lions means an unhappy pride. Nobody wants an unhappy pride! Always think happy thoughts!
There are no unhappy names - Unhappy names tempt fate and lead to unhappy cubs. Unhappy cubs don't Smile Enough, and thus parents are Strongly Discouraged from giving their cubs names that mean things like Storm or Distress or Blood. Those who join the pride from the outside and have such names are asked Politely to Please Change Them or be taken for Proper Educating. Lions posted in the original and new IT before 11/15/2016 are exempt from this!
Only lions are allowed in the Furaha lands - Competition with other predators means unhappy lions... And we don't want unhappy lions, do we? All intruding non-lions will be taken to The Smiling Peak. Hybrid cubs will also be taken to The Smiling Peak, and the mother for re-education. (This is probably about the only one most of the pride doesn't mind abiding... Well, mostly. They don't agree with the methodology of dealing with them - They'd rather non-lions and hybrids be chased out to live another day, than to... VANSIH. But they're smart enough to Say Nothing)
A male can only have a female mate, and a female can only have a male mate - Cubs can ONLY happen between a pair of lions mated to each other in the Furaha, Lions caught flirting with somebody that's Not Their Mate will be lead off by the Joy Guards for some... Re-education. Repeat offenders, or those who have cubs with somebody that's Not Their Mate, will.... Vanish, and the cubs taken by the Joy Guards.
Citizens are STRICTLY forbidden to climb The Smiling Peak - Any caught doing so will be joined by the Joy Guards and escorted the rest of the way. They are also forbidden to go into the Smiling Cave, where the river comes out and the Council resides, unless invited in by the Council.
If you see something, say something - Is your neighbor not SMILING enough when the Joy Guard's not around? Then please report them to your nearest Joy Guard! They may need some re-education!

Ranks
There's very few ranks in the Furaha. To divide the citizenship means to think somebody is UNHAPPY, and unhappy thoughts are NOT tolerated.
Council - The Council is the all-seeing leadership of the Furaha. They decide on new laws, if they should remove an old one, and if somebody may not be Happy enough. They also Re-educate any straying members of the pride.
Joy Guard - They do not protect the pride. They are not here to help you. The Joy Guard is here to make sure everybody is Happy, and thinking Happy Thoughts, and always smiling. Smiles are important! If somebody is thinking Not Happy Thoughts and caught frowning, they take them before the Council. They take particularly naughty lions up to The Smiling Peek. They don't come back with those lions...
Citizens - There is no cub rank, there is no adolescent rank, there are no other special ranks. Everybody who has not joined the Joy Guards, or been elected onto the Council, is a Citizen. All Citizens are happy! Their only duties are to hunt, raise families, make friends, and Smile! Always remember to smile! Smiling is VERY important.

So, as I said to you before, this pride makes me all plot tingly. 8'D Please have this offering:
Zuri Jiwe - lovely stone Rank: Joy Guard. Blurb: Zuri Jiwe is a blank slate at the moment, but I could easily imagine him to be eerily to perfect, on the inside and out. Smile always to the 't' and appearance matching just that.
Wasat Mainyu - center spirit Rank: Council Blurb: Wasat is the very neutral older sibling to Angra Mainyu (anger, hate) and Spenta Mainyu (joy, righteous). She has never portrayed a one sided emotion, not until coming across this hidden gem. The Joy Guards didn't need to convince her of anything, rather she adapted her outward appearance to meet the requirements to join the other Happy citizens. Through eagerness and smiles she made her way to Council. Outwardly she maintained that appearance of joy, untainted. Yet internally she wrangled down curiosities of how the pride worked and what 'glue' they may be sniffing.
Love this concept, seriously do Drani. <3
