With the Tea Clutch close to graduation, we want to open up a contest to turn some of those NPC weyrlings into PCs! Now's the time, so get those creative juices going!

We will be looking to home at minimum two (2) NPC dragons in this contest, but have a good handful to give away -- up to six (6) winners! We will reserve at least one (1) dragon from the total to give out via raffle! That way, if you don't have the time to write up a fully-fledged profile, you can still possibly win another tea derg!

Please note, for the raffle, we as staff reserve the right to come up with the theme or any other information. Don't assume that it will follow the format we ran with Tarot, or that it will be raffled exactly the same way! But that is neither here nor there, and the raffle will happen after this contest!

For now, it is time to write like the wind, for anyone who does not already own a Tea dragon!

Begins: Now
Ends: Tuesday, March 26th Friday, March 29 @ 5pm PT

You can only enter ONE profile and may only win ONE NPC Tea dragon no matter how many contests or raffles or giveaways we run.

Please note the only colors you may enter for are green, blue, and brown. There is only ONE brown NPC slot available and THREE blue & green NPCs. There is a good chance you might well need you to change your dragon's color and/or location, so keep that in mind when you write.

Themes
The Tea Clutch was based on Teas flavors and types. As it stands, themes are limited. Your theme choices MUST some sort of real-life flavor of tea! It cannot, and should not, be things like coffee. It has to be a tea! You also must avoid any of the teas that were already found in Tea Clutch:

The Tea Clutch Profiles

1. Chamomile
2. Phoenix Oolong Tea
3. Lapsang Souchong
4. Earl Grey
5. Darjeeling
6. Masala Chai
7. Rooibos
8. English Breakfast
9. Pu-Ehr
10. Iced Tea
11. Iron Goddess of Mercy
12. Jasmine
13. Moroccan Mint
14. Matcha
15. Bubble Tea
16. Gunpowder Green
17. White Hair Silver Needle

Things To Keep In Mind
You may edit your entry up until the end of the contest.

You may only enter if you didn't Impress during the Tea Clutch Hatching.

Staff may enter.

New! Please don't have your Tea babin hatch as the first one, or the last one. We had a long time before Saith hatched (hours) when the rest of the eggs had already hatched. And there was clearly a first dragon on the sands, and it wasn't one of these NPCs. :3 Sorry!

Additionally, if you win, these profiles still need to go through approvals so you might need to change things! We might have loved a concept but saw things that needed fixing.

If you do not win this contest, you may quest for the character, or use the character profile as a possible Candidate, or the dragon profile for a different adult dragon. All we ask is you do NOT claim they were part of the clutch, and that you remove the theme. Themes should only show up for dragons won in hatchings, no matter what might have inspired their personality or appearance.

If you already own a Tea Dragon you are ineligible to participate.

These dragons are NOT custom dragons. Winning dragons will be designed 100% based on their theme by our colorists. Just like a Hatching, you have no say over the end result.

You cannot use a pre-existing Candidate! Unfortunately, you'll need to make up someone new for these bad boys.

Staff, please do not plot backstory with entrants, or look over their profiles! While we understand sometimes you just want to help, it also could be perceived as favoritism, even if you're not the ones judging.

Tea Clutch Owners, please refrain from plotting with entrants or giving them gobs of backstory! None of these characters are guaranteed to win, and we don't want to disappoint anyone's plots if we don't choose that character to win!

We may ask about how a character got along with their cluchmates but please answer that less on what you plotted with other Tea folks, and more generally on how you THINK they may have gotten along with the group over all.

Individual and more specific plots can happen after winners are announced!

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Nisadee
Age: 17 (3558.01.24)
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: ???
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: /shrug (spent some time in Healer Hall)
Physical Description: Pale-skinned, blonde-haired, and blue-eyed, Nisadee is a cold beauty. Little about her could be described as warm or soft. She is tall and slender at 5'9", and has particularly long, thin fingers.

Personality:
Some things simply aren't meant to be said. There are some secrets that should never be revealed, not to anyone or for anything, and Nisadee knows that well. It was among her earliest lessons learned, and emphasized all her life, so it's deeply ingrained in her. Her mother is a skilled thief, her aunt the same and so much more, and her father an apothecary who caters to a less than scrupulous clientele. She might not be privy to their most compromising secrets, but she's seen enough - and been involved in enough - to be a risk or a weak point, if it suited her to be. But, for all her family's faults and failings, she is loyal to her own blood, and so she reveals nothing. If the secret is to do with someone she's not so loyal to? She'll keep until such time as it suits her to, though if she does decide it's to her advantage to make it known, she'll take care to ensure that she can't be traced as the source of the leak. That will be a rare occurence, however, as the reward would have to outweigh just how much she loves secrets.

She's something of a hoarder of knowledge, especially anything she's not supposed to know, or isn't proper or 'right' to be interested in. Anything anyone else shuns or dismisses, no matter how dark or how wildly improbable in, she wants to know more about. For all her logic and rational thought processes, Nisadee loves fantastical notions - silly tales, superstition, fate, ghosts...even if she knows something probably isn't true, she would dearly love for it to be. It makes the world that much more interesting, and there is, perhaps, just a touch of romanticism in her somewhere.

Her actions are usually carefully thought-out, as she is well aware of consequence and the importance of appearances, although she's not slow or indecisive about it. Just careful. Always careful. Interactions with her peers in particular are approached warily, as she has little experience with others in her own age group or below. She is polite, but struggles with genuine warmth and friendliness. She would like to have friends, as she quietly yearns for the attention and affection that have thus far escaped her in life, but she struggles with how to go about making any. Letting her guard down and allowing someone to see who she really is is quite the intimidating prospect.

Going into Candidacy, the most important person in Nisadee's life was Nisadee. She'd never been anyone else's priority, so why not be her own? (Of course, Anhuith now supercedes everyone and everything else.) If she wants anything out of life, she just has to do it herself, and she expects others to do the same for themselves. If she can see the advantage in helping someone new to her, or knows that she has to, she will do it, but she will almost always have a reason beyond selflessness, even if that reason is just to avoid suspicion or a talking-to. She is much readier to help those she feels obligation or loyalty to, and for those few friends she does manage to form, she'll be there for in a heartbeat.

Positive Trait List careful, logical, loyal
Negative Trait List guarded, preoccupied with her own matters, struggles to form genuine bonds

History:
The product of flightlust between two unaffiliated riders, Nisadee has spent much of her life wondering why her mother didn't just hop between on her blue to save herself the nuisance that Nisadee was destined to be. Whatever the reason Anadee chose to carry her to term, the woman came to regret it fairly quickly. Taking care of a child was all-day, all-night work, which put a real cramp in everything she liked to do...especially her chosen career of highwayman, an endeavour she shared with her sister and several others. Within a couple of turns, Anadee couldn't take it any longer, and deposited the child in Bitra with her father.

Niserion was considerably less than thrilled. Intrigued, yes, and had his daughter been given to him at an age with any independence or autonomy, he might have been pleased. But a toddler? Messy, needy, babbling, underfoot, everything the studious apothecary with a dangerous side business neither wanted nor needed. To say nothing of his green, who hated sharing his attention. Niserion's sense of responsibility to his own blood helped him to hold out for three whole turns before enough was enough before the girl was shuffled back to her mother.

Now 5, Nisadee could at least be moderately useful; she couldn't rob traders with the band, but she made a fantastically pathetic street urchin, and was taught to beg, steal, and otherwise con people out of their hard-earned marks. For once in her life, she actually had a reason to be, something to do that made her useful to one of the people she most wanted to be loved by - or even just liked - and hung on every tiny scrap of attention and praise a job well done might earn her. More often than not, it came from her aunt, Anali, but every once in a great while, her mother did seem pleased with her, or at least not so terribly annoyed by her existence.

By 12, however, it was getting harder to sell targets on pitying a small, abandoned orphan, when she was growing into preteen territory, and again found herself...less useful to her mother. Clinging to memories of and fascination with her father, she asked to go back to him - a surprise he certainly wasn't expecting to receive again, but at least this time she was more capable of thinking for herself and acting independently. Really, she didn't need much care at all, beyond feeding and clothing.

Niserion set to teaching her about his craft, darker side included, but it wasn't long before Achlyth had once again had enough of this ungrateful little whelp who was stealing her rider's time and attention. As she was now old enough to apprentice, Niserion offered to send her to any Hall she liked, expecting her, with her natural curiosities and aptitude, to choose Healer Hall. She did, as it made the most sense, but within a few more turns, she was bored. Unused to being with anyone around her own age, she didn't mesh well with the other apprentices, and it was all just so terribly tame! She'd spent her life in dark, dangerous places, and the light made her restless.

Nisadee sent a letter to her aunt - after her mother failed to respond - left her apprenticeship, and returned to Bitra, where she entered brothel work. Perhaps it was squandering her "potential," but it was different, alluring, even a bit glamorous at the high end, which she very much intended to be.

...until almost a turn later, when she was Searched. The dragons in her life had all been aloof at the very best, never friends or companions, but maybe if she had her own, it would be different. Maybe someone, finally, would want and understand her. Though thus far, dragons have mainly been obstacles between her and her family, the bond between rider and dragon is also the only real love she's ever been witness to, and she wanted that for herself. She didn't expect to come to be on a beach, of all things, but in hindsight, a dragon born to a then-unaffiliated mother was an amusing fit.

Other: A previously unfinished/unapproved Candidate, recycled with permission.

DRAGON
Name: Anhuith
Origin of Name: Named for Anhui Province, where Keemun black tea is grown.
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y
- - - - > If your tea type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color: Brown
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? N (I understand I reduce my chances with this, and that is a-okay!)
Inspiration:
Keemun (qímén hóngchá; literally: 'Qimen red tea') is a famous Chinese black tea. First produced in late 19th century, it quickly became popular in the West and is still used for a number of classic blends. It is a light tea with characteristic stone fruit and slightly smoky notes in the aroma and a gentle, malty, non-astringent taste reminiscent of unsweetened cocoa. Top varieties have orchid-like fragrance and additional floral notes in the flavor.

Keemun is produced exclusively in the Qimen County in the south of Anhui province. The name of the tea is an older Western spelling of the name of the nearby town, Qimen. The tea-growing region lies between the Yellow Mountains and the Yangtze River. The cultivar used for Keemun is the same as that used in production of Huangshan Maofeng. While the latter is an old, well-known variety of green tea, Keemun was first produced in 1875 using techniques adapted from Fujian province farmers. Many varieties of Keemun exist, with different production techniques used for each. Nevertheless, any Keemun undergoes particularly slow withering and oxidation processes, yielding more nuanced aroma and flavor. Some of Keemun's characteristic floral notes can be attributed to a higher proportion of geraniol, compared to other black teas.

Among the many varieties of Keemun perhaps the most well-known is Keemun Mao Feng. Harvested earlier than others, and containing leafsets of two leaves and a bud, it is lighter and sweeter than other Keemun teas. Another high grade variety, containing mostly leaves and stronger than others, is the Keemun Hao Ya. For Western markets, it is separated by quality into Hao Ya A and Hao Ya B categories, the former being somewhat better than the latter.

Keemun is considered ideal for use in reading tea leaves.

Personality

Anhuith is, in their very esteemed and privately-held opinion, a dragon unlike any other who has ever been shelled. There is not a moment where they are not poised, when they are not unaware that there are eyes upon them: because there are always eyes upon them, or should be! While Anhuith will play at humility, will hide their gaze behind a coy flutter of their wing, they love attention. They want to be looked at, listened to, talked about, and thought about, whether in a positive or negative way, although they most prefer a middle ground of vexation. They delight in being a puzzle, in shrouding themselves in an air of mystery, which comes to them as easily as breathing. The less anyone knows about them, the more they will wonder, and so Anhuith will stay in their thoughts.

Anhuith is a difficult dragon for anyone, Anhuith included, to know. They are what they need or want to be at any given moment, whatever they feel, and if the mood strikes them, whatever they think someone else wants or needs them to be. They love to be a listening ear, to be confided in and consulted, looked to for advice. This advice, more often than not, will be open to interpretation, with a vague or cryptic quality. This is both because they enjoy being mysterious, and because by giving an obscure answer that leaves multiple meanings open, it could be interpreted as correct regardless of the details of the outcome. They rarely give the plainly-spoken truth, exactly as it is; they prefer to bend it, and have no compunctions about lying outright. Lies, after all, are so much prettier, and often what people truly want to hear.

This brown, for all of their love of attention, is soft-spoken and demure, never one to grandstand or shove another aside, and rarely raises their voice. They are naturally captivating, and will use body language, turn of phrase, and the quiet intensity of their presence to catch and keep the attention that they desire. When it comes to romantic attention, anyone interested will find them slippery indeed, as they will lead all potential lovers on a long and winding chase...only to slip through their claws like so much smoke soon after being caught. Though they may fly after a rising female, they will almost never put much genuine effort into winning, unless on a fanciful whim or if they believe there is something to be gained. They would much rather be chased themselves, and have no qualms about distracting and poaching another's suitors of any color. It is unlikely that they will ever be an earnest suitor themselves in any regard, in the sky or out of it; it is very possible that no being on Pern other than their rider will ever be capable of holding their hearts. If ever Anhuith were to find their feelings for another to be more than fleeting, no one would be more surprised than they.

They have a deep-seated disdain for following orders, not out of any innate drive to rebel, but because they, and no one else, should be the master of their own fate. They want to make their own choices, regardless of the outcome, and unless their rider can sway them, will listen to heart and instinct over logic. If this leads them to a poor outcome, they will accept it and move on, rather than denying it, dwelling on it, or blaming it on someone else. If nothing else, at least their choice was their own.

Size: 31'
Physical Attributes: Delicate and fine-featured, this brown is beautiful, with a slender build and long, graceful lines. They're quite small for their color, but in their opinion, that only makes them that much more distinctive.
Additional Notes: Their hide may be brown, but Anhuith doesn't always feel that that fits them in every respect. They are genderfluid, and though most will call them 'he' no matter what, they're fine with that unless they suspect that someone is being deliberately rude. They will enjoy accessorizing in any shade that suits them, but have a particular fondness for golds, purples, and blues.

Why Me: Anhuith never once paid anyone but Nisadee a second thought: of utmost importance is her experience with secrets - real, often dark, ones - and ability to keep her mouth shut. She has always craved but been denied attention, but isn't so desperate as to blabber or go to silly extremes for it; Anhuith can show her their ways, and together they can draw eyes and daydreams, and they know that she will never share their methods and secrets. Nisadee has never quite fit in with her peers - so rarely has she had any at all! - and they will encourage her to stand apart and embrace it, in the same way that they do.

This brown likes to let their hearts and instinct guide them, but maybe Nisadee will be able to temper some of that impulsiveness with a bit of logic where necessary, at least enough to keep them from haring off into ruin based on a whim of feeling.

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training? Anhuith, particularly early on in their training, tended to be reluctant to do as they were told simply on principle, and required a strong hand from Nisadee to settle and focus on tasks and lessons (and not attempt to distract their classmates). Over time, this did become less like pulling teeth, and Anhuith came to require fewer expanations and less wheedling to get them on board; if Theirs wants it done, so be it. Usually.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? They are both inclined to keep emotional distance between themselves and others, and this is most evident from Nisadee. Though not unfriendly or difficult to work with, she would have taken time and likely repeated overtures on someone's part to form any friendships. She would have subtly watched everyone to get a feel for them and pick out who might be trustworthy, but over time, she in particular has likely developed an attachment and loyalty to the group as a whole. As for Anhuith, they get on extremely well, at least on a superficial level, catching attention in their own coy way and always happy to listen and offer advice to anyone who might ask.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? Do they really have to? Siiiigh. This is all so very much work, when Anhuith would much rather be doing their own thing, and indeed, tempting a classmate to join them. Fortunately, Nisadee is much more inclined to stay on track - especially since their training is meant, among other things, to keep them and those around them alive - and was always there to rein in her brown. She was a good student, while Anhuith took work to get on the same page.

How did they do during Threadfall? With Nisadee on top of the preparations, they came out fairly well overall, just pulled muscles and light 'scoring, though a brief slip in Anhuith's attention may have crisped a clutchmate. Anhuith did offer to cuddle it better.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Nisadee is largely indifferent. She will acknowledge that it's unfortunate, but it happened and that's that, they all have to live with it (or...not, depending on how their luck goes). Anhuith, on the other hand, is irritated, as it necessitates all this structure and order-following; if they'd been hatched sooner, you can sharding well bet this brown would be out seeing the world, going wherever the wind blows. Alas, Anhuith is stuck, though they wouldn't go so far as to call themselves wasted on Threadfighting - they do look awfully good doing it.

Anything else? Desert Rose - Sting feat. Cheb Mami
(ICly Anhuith would mostly use he/him, maybe occasionally they/them depending. For profile the latter seemed more appropriate.)

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Ayden (No honorific because... How?)
Age: 16
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual (With polyromantic tendencies)
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Holdless
Physical Description: Not the tallest of people, topping out at around 5'6"(At least, compared to people like P'tius), Ayden is best described as wiry-muscled - At first glance he looks thin, but when you get close, you can easily see the growing muscle underneath. His black hair tends to be kept just long enough to nearly reach his eyes at the front, pulled back into a small ponytail in the back, and absolutely curly - When wet, it's easy to see just how long it actually is. Cheerful brown eyes look out from a tanned face.
Personality: Generally a happy person, Ayden usually has only good things to say, although he also has an unfortunate habit of blurting things out and not having a good brain-to-mouth filter, something he knows he needs to work on. This belies the fact he knows how to survive outside a Hold or Weyr, finding the worth within near any discarded item - After all, one man's trash is another man's treasure, right?

From picking through discarded things, Ayden has become adept at making new things out of old things, and even fixing things others gave up for trash. That broken bowl? Perfect for forming part of a new plant pot! Or simply decorating part of a garden, it just needs a little paint! The broken pieces of a mirror? With careful tying of twine, he can make little light reflecting art pieces to hang around his weyr!
Positive Trait List Finds the good in anyone and anything, resourceful,
Negative Trait List No brain-to-mouth filter,
History: Ayden was born Holdless. It wasn't that his parents had been exiled or anything, though - They simply enjoyed living off the land and traveling place to place more. He learned from

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Rhuan (no honorific, thank you very much)
Age:24
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? N
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Steward in training
Physical Description: What Rhuan lacks in broadness and brawn, he makes up for with height and sharp features, with dark eyes and hair. He keeps himself immaculately and can be described in many instances as being a touch overdressed. All the better, as far as he thinks.
Personality: Rhuan is a particular follower of the Quality over Quantity mindset, not eager to hoard anything - friends, possessions, lovers - unless they are exactly what he wants. Most often, those people are not you and those items simply are things to be waited for. He will not rush, and he will follow through. No excuses will be made to justify accepting anything lesser, and it is mostly his duty as a candidate that makes him associate with many people.

Not that they can distinguish their heads from their asses and get anything done, as far as he’s concerned.

He has the spine needed to back up his wants and desires, unwilling to change under the opinions of others (though he thinks them less than his own) nor to back down once he has become involved in a situation; this makes him unwavering and sure in himself, unwilling to half-a** anything. This also makes him impossible to talk down from a stance he has taken, following through with the disastrous ones as much as the good ones.

Rhuan’s strong opinions are not something he hides, and he has no qualms with sharing them with the objects they are thought at. While sometimes sugarcoated, at the end of the day, they are only to make the pill easier to swallow - and sometimes the sugar is not all that sweet.
Positive Trait List Self-Disciplined, Patient, Unyielding,
Negative Trait List Haughty, Uncompromising, Scornful
History: Rhuan’s life could be described as cushy compared to many, being born to a family of servants - his father the Head Steward of a Minor Lord Holder’s household. As soon as he was old enough to understand his lot in life, he was on his father’s heels, learning the trade - and his place. His place was not to be friends with those who were lesser than him, or frankly those who were better than him, which was an unfortunate limiting of options, or would have been if not for his ego.

An ego only fed into when one of said Holder’s daughters took a fancy to him, as forbidden as it was, and he entertained it for his own benefit. It would be a short lived affair, Threadfall redefining both of their roles - hers to her family and he to the household. That he - and the young lord of the home - were Searched shortly after would only add required distance to the whole fiasco.

Which he wanted more - the honor of something beyond his position, or distance from the potential inconvenience of an ongoing affair - seems to be a tightly held secret and one he only has allowed his young lifemate in on. All the better, as far as the pair are concerned.
Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name: Jinhouth
Origin of Name: 金猴茶 ( pinyin: jīn hóu chá) is the name of a black tea originating from the Fujian and Yunnan provinces in China.
- - - - >Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? N
- - - - > If your tea type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color: Brown
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y
Inspiration: Golden Monkey Tea
Golden Monkey tea leaves are characterized by the pale gold threading. Golden Monkey tea is a black tea counterpart of Silver Needle white tea. The flavor profile of golden monkey tea is characterized by light, honeyed peach notes, and its lack of astringency. This tea is highly prized, as evidenced by its second-place finish in the Signature Famous Teas – Hot Tea Class of the 2009 World Tea Championship.
This tea is hand-processed each spring by carefully plucking its leaves and buds. It is considered one of the finest black teas available. The name of the tea comes from the leaves that resemble monkey claws.Golden Monkey leaves are grown at the altitudes of 1200 metres. This tea comes from the Yunnan province; a mountainous, cloudy and misty province. It has grown tea for 1700 years. During ancient times, Golden Monkey was consumed by local landlords and Taipans. Due to the rarity of the tea, the Taipans believed that it had special powers. The Taipans claimed that it provided them with agility and sexual powers.

Personality Jinhouth could be capable of great things if he put in the effort. A diamond in the rough, he is clever, witty, and so, so tired. He came out of the egg tired - not as glittering as more prizewinning siblings, not as big as a certain brown brother. He has so much to give, but who cares when he's already second place by all accounts? While he doesn’t bemoan what he is, Jinhouth isn’t exactly chomping at the bit to prove himself as more than it. He doesn’t see why it should be his place to prove himself a rule, rather than an exception.

Despite his jaded take on color politics, Jinhouth isn’t an overly serious dragon. If nobody is expecting great things of him out the gate, why not take advantage of it? He will always take things a little easier and not try his hardest - which of itself is a task and a half. Even at his most apathetic, it will be clear that Jinhouth picks things up more quickly; he will ask less questions because he understands, be ready to go on new things after shorter explanations, and take in small details that many won’t even stop to squint at. Admitting to any of it will be unlikely, however. He isn’t playing at being dumb or incapable, he just sees no reason to play to his strengths and sparkle a little bit.

The sky may be the limit, but Jinhouth just needs some pushing to aim for it. He doesn’t consider himself competitive in the least, but a little bit of praise goes a long way in pulling what greatness he does have from his shell. But making him shine will be an elusive thing to pull from him and will take care and time.
Size: 38’
Physical Attributes: Jinhouth is a long limbed and limber dragon, capable of nimble movement with large wings. He tends to be a little sharper on the claw end of things.
Additional Notes: Jinhouth will tend to prefer the company of chromatics.

He will love flights and will chase any lady who rises - though he will never be as competitive about it as some suitors. He also will have no problem with snatching up a losing male for his own. Jinhouth will be prone to breaking hearts, however, as he is slow to notice signs of devoted interest - or will convince himself they are something else.

Why Me: Rhuan is a kindred spirit to Jinhouth, who sees the young man’s comfortable, but second place, position as so tenderly close to his own. He knows he can be the perfect quality that Rhuan desires in every part of his life - please love him - and in turn perhaps some of that unyielding drive to go farther will rub off on the brown. Jinhouth’s more relaxed and genial disposition will pave the way for Rhuan to be a little kinder and Rhuan’s self-discipline will push Jinhouth towards the sky

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training? Rhuan preferred his own company - and Jinhouth was right there with him. Though the man was more distant than the dragon. Things leaned a touch on the serious side with them.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Jinhouth initially shied away from most of his fellows at Western due to them being metallic. He doesn’t dislike them - especially as Western was less inclined to hold them on a pedestal than High Reaches would have - but there was an obvious fear of comparison.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? Rhuan preferred it to be strict - he didn’t want to be friends with the Weyrlingmaster, after all, but he could be known to get into trouble for his uh...sharp tongue.

How did they do during Threadfall? Jinhouth has some scoring from their blooding, and he pulled several muscles making a rough landing when Rhuan needed to be dunked.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Threadfall is the one thing that Jinhouth won’t half-a** and it is the one thing that the brown is more passionate about than his rider is.

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name:
T'hryn
(Originally Tehryn)
Age:
24
Sex:
Male
Sexual Orientation:
Homosexual
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y

Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft:
Kitchen Worker

Physical Description:
Tehryn is a bit on the small side for a man. Standing at only 5'6" tall, he tends to fade back in to the crowd, rather than stand out. HIs build well resembles a swimmer's, lithe and narrow, with only a slight broadening at the shoulders to really create that illusion of 'masculinity'. A soft jaw and high cheeks are speckled ever so with the hints of reddish hair that likely might turn in to a beard if cultivated right. His eyes are narrow, and turned down at the corners, a soft hazel brown in tone, with long lashes. Thin lips are oft pulled in to a straight line, with thicker brown-red brows suggesting that he might be in quiet contemplations...really, he's just trying to keep to himself. His hair is kept long, usually falling to at least his mid back, and is a lovely mix of brown and copper, often tied in to a braid at the back of his neck with a thick wherhide tie. His hands and fingers are scarred from his days as a kitchen boy, and there are a few burn scars on his cheek and one scar on his brow from the only scrape he'd ever been in.

Personality:
You'll never find a man more intent on a goal than T'hryn. He has a habit of focusing in on something and making sure that task is completed, not just done, but in his eyes? Perfectly. He likes to ensure that everything is complete to the best of anyone's ability, and loves the thought that he might some day run...something or another. Order is as important as anything. However, it's not exactly easy to run things when you're nervous to step up. Honestly, he's never really been the best with people, even talking to them. It makes him feel a bit ill, and anxious. If he could have his dream day, he'd be happily away from any potential social situation, and situated right towards the back, where no one really looks twice at him.

However, when he does connect to someone, he will shower them with anything they want. As soon as he has a feel for them, he will know their favourite foods, what they like on their rest day, and if you think T'hryn doesn't know how to help provide for that? Oh, you're wrong. He will always look out for others when given the chance. He can be easily hurt though. T'hryn tends towards being extremely emotional where other people are involved, and has a hard time separating his emotion from fact. Quite often, he finds himself weak and unable to focus thanks to this trait.

Despite his issues, he still does his best to always keep moving. The boy is constantly working, finding tasks that keep him busy, no matter what. Once he became a candidate, he immediately tended towards the harder tasks that would take longer, because they made quite a bit more sense to his brain. He LIKES to be busy, and likes to make sure that he will do whatever it takes for his weyr. His tendency towards this can, however, easily exhaust him. The young man tends not to understand his own limits, and can push himself far past what is acceptable, and in to what could hurt him.

Positive Trait List
Driven, Thoughtful, Hardworking
Negative Trait List
Shy, Overemotional, Easily Exhausted

History:
T'hryn was born in Western Weyr, the son of a kitchen worker and a Rider. His father, the kitchen worker, was the one to take care of him. The boy grew up knowing the ways of the kitchens, and loved helping out! Every day was a new adventure, and when it came time for Turns End and Hatching feasts? Oh, those were the days he loved best. He got to see other people, play with other kids, and meet dragons. His mother's Green was the best, and kept him happy and contented all through his life. The day came, though, where the Green noticed something about him, something special.

T'hryn was searched b his own mother's dragon, and brought in to candidacy, a world that he will still tell you to this day? Scares him something fierce. All of a sudden, he had to be around people, had to talk to them, and be social. IT was easy to listen to lectures and orders, because after all, those didn't require him to actually deal with others. It was when other people tried to socialize with him between classes that he would find a reason to hide away until the next lesson or chore. Those were easy enough. He perhaps made one or two friends in the class, though did get in one 'scrape' with another boy, who took offense to his behavior. That was how he got the scar on his brow, a souvenier from the one person who didn't particularly like being avoided when he was trying to talk to the boy.

The trip to the beach was supposed to be uneventful for him, or so T'hryn assumed. What he didn't expect during this rogue clutch was the sweetest of little voices calling out to him from behind her cracked eggshell. That was his moment of bliss, when he met Yueyaneth. She was in that moment his light, and everything, the one creature he could share everything with, and feel safe. Weyrlinghood would be interesting, but for her? He would try.

Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name:
Yueyaneth

Origin of Name:
Named for Yueyang, Hunan Province, China, a place where Beigang Maojian (also known as Yōnghúchá) is grown.

Inspiration:
Chinese huangcha is an increasingly rare and expensive variety of tea. The process for making yellow tea is similar to that of green but with an added step of encasing and steaming the tea. This allows the tea to oxidize at a slower rate, producing a far more mellow taste than is found in most green teas this also gives the leaves a slightly yellow colouring during the drying process. Yellow tea is often placed in the same category with green tea due to its light oxidation. One of the primary aims of making yellow tea is to remove the characteristic grassy smell of green tea while preserving the associated health qualities of green tea. Some have even speculated that yellow tea may be healthier because it is easier on the stomach than green tea.

Like most techniques for making tea, there are arguments over the exact beginnings of the yellow tea style. Few in number, the elusive yellow teas have always developed in isolated instances in areas that were already famous for producing green tea, like Huo Shan in Anhui or Meng Ding Shan in Sichuan. Although there is a long history in these regions of producing green tea, it’s speculated that yellow tea only began to be produced in the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Yellow teas are made for the appreciation of locals and have never had a broad market presence. Growing out of an elaboration of green tea techniques, the process for making yellow tea is time consuming and difficult. Thus for the thousand kinds of green tea, there are only three kinds of yellow tea that survive today.

Personality
Oh no, no no no, that simply won't do. Yueyaneth likes everything a particular way, and when she shelled in the middle of the hatching, everything was just far too wrong. The light, the sand, all of it. She's a picky little thing, and will likely be so all of her life if her rider doesn't curb it. This means that during drills and weyrling training, she'll prefer to wait til 'the time is right', though not even her rider will fully understand when that time is. However, once she's content? She will be one of the most beautiful creatures in the sky. Yueyaneth tends to be a bit anxious around anyone that's not her clutchmates as well.

Golds and Bronzes get the bulk of her shyness, and the little green will likely choose to hide from them while she's still young. Confrontation doesn't sit well with her, and if she feels as though she's not good enough? She'll become a wilting violet of a dragon. Is she not perfect? Does she not deserve just as much love as a glittering hide? The little creature fancies herself the most beautiful creature on Pern, though she'd never admit that aloud. However, she has hearts that could hold the world, if she'd let herself past her own fears.

Yueyaneth cares very much for the wellbeing of her clutchmates, and that of the Weyr. While she's never going to voice her opinions, she will share them with her Rider, and make sure they know who to check on, and who to give their love and attention to. It is in her devotion, she will tell you, that Yueyaneth truly has the chance to shine.

Size:
19'

Physical Attributes:
Graceful and smaller, Yueyanth embodies the type of dragon that will be good dodging and weaving between Thread. With shorter legs, and a slightly longer tail, she has a bit of a stockier frame, and if her Rider's not careful, will always carry just a slight hint of pudge. She tends to prefer being ground-bound after all.

Additional Notes:
Yueyaneth prefers to be looked at by female dragons, rather than male, and certainly has ab it of anxiety around the metallics. When she flies, however, it will always be higher, for shorter durations. She's never going to be QUITE as good at flaming as the other dragons, but she tries her best!

Why Me:
Can you not see, Tehryn, you were the only one for your Yueyaneth! Yueyaneth sees the man that T'hryn can become, if he's pushed just a little bit, and her own drive to be just as good as her siblings, she thinks, will push him just enough. He was also the only one that understood her hesitance and fear in just the right way. Other's might have pushed her too hard, too fast, but Yueyaneth trusts her T'hryn to guide her through the challenges of life, just as she will guide him. She was the loveliest of her clutch, after all, and all he needs is a little bit of guidance, and hearts to match his own.

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training?
T'hryn was a studious man, and Yueyaneth followed in his stead. While they never really socialized outside of their work, the pair were dilligent and dedicated.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? W
They did their best to TRY and make friends with the tiny select few that Yueyaneth was close to, though it was obvious that they preferred to keep themselves apart, and that T'hryn was just terribly nervous around anyone that wasn't His own.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training?
Honestly? T'hryn fell in to step with it easily. It wasn't unlike being in the kitchens during a busy Feast to him. Strict training provided the structure he needed to know how to handle Yueyaneth's fussiness, and help start to get over his own fears and anxieties. He rather LIKES his Weyrling training. It makes sense.

How did they do during Threadfall?
While Yueyaneth and T'hryn both were singed with minor scoring, neither suffered major damage. They were lucky, and found themselves more equipped to help others, and keep thread off their wingmates.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return?
T'hryn is terrified. He hates the fact that Thread has returned, but knows well that as a Weyrling? This is his duty. Then there's Yueyaneth. How DARE thread fall right as she was getting to shine even more! How cruel! Conditions are NEVER right with Thread deciding to spoil her moments! She's trying her best not to let herself get over-saddened, and it helps to have T'hryn there to keep her to task.

Anything else?

Quick announcement!

I forgot to mention that when you make your Tea babins, pleas avoid having them be the first one out of the egg, or the last. It would probably be best if they hatched sometime in the middle since it was very clear that all the babies hatched before Saith, and that.....one of them was the first. I forget which.

xD

Thanks!

If nothing else, we'll just ask you to adjust it if you win and we go through approvals....

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Trissa
Age: 15
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Candidate
Physical Description: Trissa is a wisp of a young lady looking like she could be swept off her feet by a passing gust of wind. Petite and lithe, she barely hits five feet tall on a good day but she hopes to grow just a little more before all is said and done. Her complexion is incredibly pale and her platinum blonde hair and grey eyes make her look rather desaturated in color. She keeps her hair in a loose braid as it's very thin and straight, making it difficult to hold any other style. Everything about her is delicate and she tends to wear pale colored clothing so she doesn't look like death warmed over. Her features are delicate and obnoxiously perfect, almost begging for a scar, a mole, something to mar the otherwise flawless visage.
Personality: Trissa may look and act gentle and quiet, but she is first and foremost a determined young lady who is out to prove everyone wrong. She knows what she wants and will try anything and everything to get it, putting in hours of work or studying extra hard. She is not as physically capable as her fellow riders and she knows that, so she tries to make up for it in other ways. Being resourceful comes in handy, especially when someone left something important on a tall shelf that she can't reach or Broleith has a difficult spot to reach between his wings that's in desperate need of a scratch. Trissa has enough tenacity to keep herself going even when she feels like she's going to fall over from exhaustion. Although she is determined and pushes herself, she does lack stamina and often finds herself lagging behind others when physical tasks are at hand. The mind may be strong, but the flesh is weak, as the saying goes.

Trissa is attentive to authority figures and generally heeds their word without question, but if something doesn't align with what she thinks is right she will hesitate to carry out the order. When fighting Thread this is rare, it's more on a moral and personal level than one of battle and safety. She is usually at the outskirts of a group, listening but keeping to herself and not giving much input. While she doesn't appreciate being completely overlooked or forgotten, Trissa doesn't mind that she's not the center of attention. Someone else can take the limelight, she's quite happy in the shadows.

If you're lucky enough to get Trissa to come out of her shell a bit, you'll find a friendly if quiet young lady who will keep you as close as you'll allow her to. She doesn't make friends easily but when she does you've got one for life. She'll be there if someone needs something at the drop of a hat and goes above and beyond to make her friends happy, whether it's a surprise gift or just an ear to talk to. She truly enjoys the few relationships she keeps and is always grateful for her friends.
Positive Trait List Determined, resourceful, loyal, warm-hearted.
Negative Trait List Physically weak, stubborn, introverted
History: Trissa was born and raised in Western Weyr and for as long as she could remember, she wanted to be a dragon rider. Her mother - a cook in the weyr - always assumed it was the dream of a little girl and she'd grow out of it, but with each passing year Trissa only grew more and more interested in following riders around or talking to Candidates that would stop by the Creche where she spent most of her time. As she grew older, her mother finally started to plant seeds of discouragement in joining the ranks of the Candidates and began to subtly push Trissa towards a life in the kitchen just as she had done.

Trissa wasn't pleased when she realized what her mother was doing. The two had a minor fallout when she confronted her mother about discouraging her from following her dream and for a while they didn't speak. It wasn't until Thread fell again that the two buried the hatchet, not wanting for one of them to possibly die while they were arguing. The need for Candidates sky rocketed and Trissa finally told her mother she was going to join the ranks no matter what. While the thought of losing her daughter to Thread terrified her, her mother could see the determination in Trissa's eyes. She wanted her to have a fighting chance and the best way for her to do that was to let her hopefully find a dragon to call her own. It was better than cowering in a home that wouldn't protect them if Thread had hit it.

With her mother's hesitant but heartfelt blessing Trissa became a Candidate on her 14th turn and it wasn't long after that that she was whisked off to a tropical island to Stand at a Weyrless queen's Hatching. She was nervous as this was her first Hatching and it was definitely not 'by the book' and by the time the last few eggs began to hatch she was burnt to a crisp. But she continued to stand on the hot Sands, waiting for the chance to wrap her arms around a little dragon as so many of her peers had done.

An egg shimmed in the sand, uncovering itself before exploding open. A little blue sat dazed in its place, a piece of the shell plastered to his face. With another shake of his head the shell flung off, leaving the blue to hunt down His. Trissa watched but didn't hope, knowing it was her first time and there would be many other Hatchings to stand at, but as the blue looked her over she felt something... no. Heard something.

Look at you, poor thing. Red as a spiderclaw! Suppose that's my fault, makin' you wait so long. Forgive your Broleith, Trissamine? Trissa watched as the blue made his way to her, eyes swirling rainbow as a feeling of love and apology and completion washed over her. The pain from the sun was no longer an issue as she reached down to scoop up the small dragon, even someone as small as her able to lift the little creature. Their adventures began right away as they were betweened back to Western where Trissa was treated for her rather awful sunburn and lessons began anew.
Other: That perfect face is not going to be perfect forever... if Threadfall doesn't get her, something else will.

DRAGON
Name: Broleith
Origin of Name: Scottish Breakfast Tea
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y
- - - - > If your tea type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color: Blue
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y
Inspiration: Although British breakfast tea is the most well-known of the bunch, the first ever true breakfast tea is thought to have originated in Scotland in 1892, thanks to a Scottish tea master named Drysdale. Legend has it that Drysdale saw a need for an even stronger version of the existing breakfast tea that Queen Anne had popularized in England during the 1700s. As a result, he set out to create a brand new blend that would cut through heavy breakfast foods and provide a burst of lasting energy.

Queen Victoria of England is said to have become enamored with this new tea blend, and it was not long before it was being marketed and sold as “British breakfast tea” throughout England. This tea blend remains the popular choice for English breakfast teas today, but what about in Scotland?

True to their form, modern Scottish tea makers have worked to create an even stronger blend of breakfast tea, to combat the country’s soft water. Today, Scottish breakfast tea is considered to be the boldest and most strongly flavored tea of the three varieties.

It usually has a woody and even smoky flavor, which can be attributed to the strong Assam tea component. Like most English breakfast teas, Scottish breakfast teas are usually made from leaves originating in modern-day Sri Lanka, India, and Africa.
Personality Broleith is, in a word, stubborn. Once he's made up his mind about something not even the most tempting morsel of food or the sweetest dragon (outside of a gold forcing him...but that's not very sweet, is it?) asking him oh-so nicely will make him change. He's quick to voice his opinion on anything and everything whether or not he was asked and he'll stick to his guns even if someone proves him wrong. He's hotheaded and will start AND finish any fight that comes his way, size and color be damned.

Underneath the abrasive exterior resides a gooey center. Broleith has a huge soft spot for anything small, cute, and cuddly and is fiercely protective of those that can't defend themselves. As much as he butts heads with other dragons, the more he argues with you the more he likes you and he will defend your honor with his dying breath. A believer of 'tough love', Broleith shows his affection with teasing and taunting, but knows when someone needs a gentler approach. An outgoing, protective blue resides within the roughneck and only those that can withstand or give as good as they get will get to see that side of him.
Size: 24.5'
Physical Attributes: Broleith is on the small side for a blue, but what he lacks in physical size he makes up for in energy. He's constantly on the move, either trotting back and forth or stretching his long wings. He's quite stocky and strong for a blue which does affect his speed over time, but he's quick as lightening over short distances. His forehead is rather wide as well and his headknobs are thicker than average, lending comically (but not usefully) to his figurative head-butting with other dragons.
Additional Notes: Broleith's name is a combination of Brodies Teas, a Scottish family-run tea company in business since 1867, and Leith, the town where Brodies Teas first set up shop. His vocalizations are also rather shrill, nasally, and kind of awful on the ears. When it comes to love, Broleith will take anyone who can stand his abrasive ways, no matter the gender or color. He doesn't chase too often, only rising for dragons he knows would enjoy a bit of banter with their flight.

Why Me: Broleith was drawn to Trissa initially by her small, delicate appearance. Right out of the egg, he loved all things small and adorable! But as he searched her mind he felt how strong she was despite her physical stature, how determined she was to stand there until the last egg hatched, how badly she wanted a dragon but how she accepted that this might not be her time for one. He knew in that moment that she was the one he'd fly for, fight for, flame for, and even die for some day. He'd protect her from the things that could hurt her and pull her out of her shell to show her a good time.

Trissa's reserved nature is badly needed for the over-the-top blue. She can cool his temper with her calmness and she helps keep his outbursts to a minimum now that he's older and she has a better understanding of how to handle the rowdy blue. In turn, Broleith helps Trissa to be more social and outgoing. He knows she'd like to interact with more people - perhaps not be friends, persay, but certainly get to know others better - and she needs that extra push to get herself out there. With Broleith at her side it's hard to be a wallflower. He's also there to remind her when to rest. Broleith is extremely protective of Trissa and while he wants her to give everything her best shot, he doesn't want her to over exert herself. Through the year they've been together he's gotten to learn the warning signs of when she's getting close to her physical breaking point and he is the nagging reminder to sit down, take a nap, or get something to eat. Self care dragon is there!

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training? At first it was the Broleith show. He was eager to show off what he could do (which wasn't much at that point) and he left Trissa in the dust frequently. It took a lot of training together and learning to compromise on Broleith's part before they really started to mesh well as a team. By the time flying lessons began they were working like a well-oiled machine with Broleith only challenging his siblings from time to time to races, strength competitions, and other silly things that either hurt his pride or made him feel like he was as big as a bronze. Despite all his antics, Trissa did her best to remain studious and continue to ensure they were learning everything they needed to know.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Trissa would have kept to herself at first, but with Broleith's chatty, outgoing ways she was often dragged into conversations with others. Trissa began to be less reluctant to follow Broleith and overall they feel as though they're well-liked. Others may say Broleith is annoying but Trissa is good company, but don't let the blue hear them say that!

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? Broleith thought it was a fun challenge at the start of lessons, but when he couldn't master something right away or the lesson went on for a while he'd grow bored and start to get distracted. Trissa was always a good student and it carried over into training. As long as Broleith wasn't being a distraction to others she'd let him be, but the moment he started to try to distract another dragon she'd jump in to stop it.

How did they do during Threadfall? So far they've done very well. Broleith is very serious about keeping Trissa safe and he's proved to be a valuable fighter. By the end of their round he's usually exhausted, though, and they did have a close call in the very last Threadfall.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Broleith is both delighted for the challenge but worried about Trissa getting hurt. He doesn't care much about himself - he's a dragon, he'll be fine! - but his sweet wisp of a rider, oh no. No harm shall come to her! Trissa is glad Thread returned, in a way. Not because of the death and destruction it caused, but because it became the catalyst for her enrollment as a Candidate and was also the event that triggered her and her mother forgiving one another. She fights it now with the same duty all riders do and takes her job very seriously.

Anything else? Broleith's theme song. Just because.

Physical Description: N'ran stands around 5'10 or so, with a lean, athletic build. His tanned face is on the roundish side of oval, set with narrow dark eyes, a broad straight nose, and an easy smile beneath his short, well groomed brown facial hair. He keeps his straight brown hair quite long, down to the middle of his back, and often braids the sides on either side of his face. (face)

He typically wears tunics and shirts with a vest or short jacket, all in a cacophony of colors, with loose trousers tucked into deep red and black boots. His boots are his pride and joy, custom made for him and oh so comfy. About the only places he doesn't wear them are down on the beach or flying with Khukith.

Personality:
A life-long denizen of the open ocean, N'ran is getting used to being land-bound at the Weyr. It's been quite an adjustment for him to make, and he still finds it a bit weird to walk around on solid ground and not the rolling deck of a pirate ship. But he's adapting, slowly but surely, and has come to love life at Western Weyr. N'ran is an easygoing guy in general, warm and friendly to everyone, with a ready smile and a dry remark to make whomever he's talking with smile as well. He genuinely enjoys the company of his friends and clutchmates, equating the bond they all feel with the comradery amongst the crew of a ship.

One thing N'ran learned aboard the Sunstorm is that it's important to follow the rules; failure to do so will not only piss the captain off, someone could wind up dead as a result. An obedient, dutiful, dedicated individual, he obeys the orders of his superiors even if he sometimes does so with a smirk. It's not that he's being cheeky (most of the time) -- it's that he still can't believe he of all people impressed a dragon. He feels a bit like a fraud sometimes, like an imposter who really pulled one over on everyone by pretending to be something he's not. He truly feels like one of these days they'll decide he doesn't belong at the Weyr and kick him out and take away his beloved Khukith. Logically he knows they can't take his dragon away, that it's a lifelong bond between him and Khukith, but he still keeps his head down and does the work just to avoid any potential trouble.

That's while he's on duty. N'ran is actually a fun-loving and even downright silly guy off-duty. He parties and drinks with his clutchmates and loves to tell stories of his adventures aboard a pirate ship -- and some of those stories are pretty wild indeed. He's fond of physical activity and will engage in sports and games at every opportunity (he's wicked accurate at knife-throwing).He's careful not to get into trouble though, lest his paranoid fears come true.

Positive Trait List warm and friendly, dedicated, by the book
Negative Trait List imposter syndrome, a bit paranoid, a bit wild off-duty

History:
Narange was born at sea on board the pirate ship Sunstorm, his mother the ship's captain and his father the first mate. He has essentially spent his entire life up until recently on the ocean; he can't remember ever setting foot on dry land during raids or supply runs or trading expeditions as a youth. Raised amongst the crew of the ship, he was treated like any other crewmate and wasn't given any special preferential treatment just because he was the captain's kid. He was expected to pull his own weight, and he did so gladly, swabbing the deck and climbing the rigging to help set sails, and heaving ropes and wielding a sword when he was old and big enough to hold his own. He loved the rest of the crew like family, and they treated him like their equal.

Still, he was the captain's son, and when his father died during a storm at sea it was Narange who was promoted to first mate at age 18. He learned more of the running of a ship from his mother, as well as more of the pirate business, and was being groomed to take over the Sunstorm when she retired.

That changed one day when they were in port conducting business at Western Hold. A dragonrider from Western Weyr was making some purchases from one of the ship's contacts while the exchange of goods for marks was going down, and the rider's dragon informed Narange that he would make an excellent dragonman. The young pirate was surprised, first at being talked to by a dragon, and then at being Searched. He had no idea what being a dragonrider entailed, having never seen a dragon before, but after some explanation from the dragonrider made it sound like the grandest adventure of all, the 19 year old Narange decided to go along.

Life on dry land was deeply weird at first, but he found life at the Weyr to not be that different from life aboard a ship. Shortly after his arrival, a couple sevendays into Candidate training, word came of a clutch on a remote Southern island that was hatching! He and the other Candidates were whisked off to stand for the clutch, and to his absolute amazement he Impressed blue Khukith when the little blue marched up to him and headbutted him in the sternum. It's been true love ever since.

Other: N'ran learned throat singing from one of the crew of his old ship, and will often sing songs he learned at sea while he's doing chores. Some of those songs are even clean.

DRAGON
Name: Khukith
Origin of Name: The name of the Mongolian sky god is Munkh Khukh Tengri, "Eternal Blue Sky."
Inspiration: The traditional tea drink of Mongolia, suutei tsai, or "milk tea", is made with green tea leaves, salt, fresh full-fat milk from horses, yaks or cows, and millet fried toasty in butter. It is served hot and drunk with every meal, served to visitors upon entering one's yurt or ger, and is as much a part of Mongolian culture as the blue sky above. Suutei tsai is definitely an acquired taste what with the salt and the millet, but is warm and savory and silky and comforting.

Personality Khukith is something of an acquired taste amongst his fellow dragons. Workmanlike and relentless, he's a ferocious competitor when it comes to Threadfall simulation games, and during actual Threadfall as well. He turns flaming Thread into a competition between him and the other dragons to see who can char more clumps without getting scored. It's not so much a daredevil thing as it is seeing who's better at flying. And Khukith is very good at flying.

This blue actually loves other dragons, all of them, from the biggest queen to the tiniest white (they're so wee and adorable! And they fly so well!). He is as warm and friendly as his rider is and deeply enjoys the companionship of his clutchmates; one of his favorite things to do is snuggle with them in a huge puppy pile on the beach, basking in the sun. Khukith is a snuggly dragon in general who used to crawl into bed with N'ran when he was little and still loves to snuggle his rider in their weyr on the beach. He finds physical contact with those he cares about very comforting to all concerned; he'll likely try to snuggle with his new wingmates once he is assigned to a fighting wing.

He's not all sunshine and blue skies, however. Khukith's competitive nature means he can get a little salty and surly if he loses, which does happen sometimes. He might snap his jaws at whomever bested him, especially if they gloat about it; he would never actually bite, though, just snub dramatically. In mating flights, too, he's a little blue b*****d. He gets super competitive and almost as proddy as the green who's about to rise. Khukith is always careful to give N'ran fair warning when a mating flight is imminent.

Size: 25'
Physical Attributes: Khukith is a stocky and powerful little blue with a large wedge-shaped head and too-long tail relative to the rest of his body. His hide is soft and silky to the touch, and he enjoys keeping it that way with frequent baths and oiling. He flies with short, swift wing strokes and is very nimble and maneuverable in the air. His stamina is quite good too for a blue; he's rarely winded after a rotation fighting Thread.

Additional Notes: Khukith flames in short, precise bursts, consuming firestone in a very economic manner. This economy of action carries over into his mating flights; he doesn't waste a single wingbeat pursuing his target.

Why Me: Khukith was drawn to N'ran even before the blue hatched. There was something about the sea-faring young man that resonated with Khukith: his sense of adventure, his warm nature, his dedication to follow through with something he really had no idea about. N'ran brings a steadying, grounding presence to Khukith, and the little blue gives N'ran the sense of love and purpose he had been missing since leaving the Sunstorm and her crew, and his mother, behind. Together N'ran and Khukith are greater than the sum of their parts, with an exceptionally strong bond between them.

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training? N'ran and Khukith were model students in weyrling training, performing the drills with precision and completely by the numbers and paying attention in class to the lectures and practical demonstrations. They weren't stars or anything, but they were well behaved and studious.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Great! N'ran took to his fellow weyrlings as his new adopted family, and Khukith absolutely adored his clutchmates, even the more temperamental or surly ones.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? N'ran really thrived under the strict guidance of weyrling training; he missed a lot of things in Candidate training due to the sudden need to stand for the unaffiliated clutch, so he's playing catch up and absorbing everything that is thrown at him. He appreciates that it needs to be strict, because if you don't learn these things correctly, you or someone else will die. Not much different than life aboard the pirate ship, really. Khukith follows his rider's lead in this; he wants to learn the right way to do these things.

How did they do during Threadfall? Pretty well! Khukith got scored lightly on his flank, but they flamed more Thread than they missed by a good margin, stayed in formation quiet well, and followed the wingleader's orders as precisely as they could, only making a few rookie mistakes that they quickly learned from.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? The Scourge of Pern is back, and it's their job to stop it! N'ran had heard stories, of course, but he never really believed in it til that first Threadfall. Being at sea, the Sunstorm wasn't affected very much, but they heard the horror stories of entire holds wiped off the map and the horrific mutilating injuries Thread causes. They are willing to do everything in their power to prevail against it!

Anything else? Khukith is based somewhat on the Mongolian horse.

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Liaven
Age: 16
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Awkward series of hand signals
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Trauma Healer
Physical Description: 'Pocket Sized' has been a term thrown around to describe Liaven's height and size far too often for anyone to consider him more than a child. Short in stature from birth and slight like the mother that bore him, his shaggy blonde hair and large doleful brown eyes have brought many a mother to his side asking if he were lost or needed help. Fingers always stained with ink, he cares little for making himself look as though he belongs in his surroundings. His clothing style of choice makes it worse, as he can be found wearing a large hooded coat that shows loving age and any manner of large baggy clothing that seems awkward for his tiny body, generally this is due to his aversion to cold temperatures.

Across his face he wears what looks to be a surgeon's mask, an act so impressed upon him by his mother from a young age that he's taken to wearing one near constantly ever since. The very picture it paints of his seemingly sad eyes peering out and no visible expression otherwise has mixed responses from those around him that don't know why it's worn.
Personality: Liaven is not the look on his face. His looks can definitely be deceiving to any that haven't gotten to know him well enough but no matter what one might think, he is not at all sad. If asked he'll bluntly respond that he was focusing and move back to the notes that he was surely taking in his goal of writing down everything he hears in studies or from healers and dragonriders around him. Every little nugget of information is important to him and he'll stop at nothing to write them all down because those around him were so kind as to take the time to tell him. Knowledge is his life, anything that might get him closer to his goal of being helpful is knowledge and therefore vastly important. What he's written down he reads over endlessly until it has become a part of him, of his very mind and being.

His devotion to learning comes from the craft he chose to follow at a very young age, nothing less than perfect could ever be considered or even qualified to attempt saving the life of another in his mind. If a person were to die simply because he'd made a foolish mistake then Liaven would never forgive himself. It was true as he studied healing and it became just as true when he began to learn as a Candidate, mistakes in healing or fighting thread could mean lives, so it was best to approach them with the utmost desire to be perfect. Unfortunately, having only the basics of trauma healing before being Searched and not having had dragon to put study into practice for dragonriding tends to clash with the perfectionist deep in his soul and as a result he will over analyze everything he's been told and learned. Oh if only he could get his hands on a dragon to poke and prod and take notes on every bit of physicality! If there's something in lessons that could help him be better, if there were something that he missed, one word that might have two meanings in a different context, he'll have notes about it and try to understand it to death. It could be curiosity but generally it's simply his vacillatory way of weighing the pros and cons of every situation to the absolute extreme that makes him blunt in the ways that he handles things to the point of almost coming off as insensitive.

This is not the case though, for Liaven does care about the feelings of others, just more the physical feeling of pain. His experience helping higher ranked journeyman and masterhealers taught him to be calm and soothing around patients, to be gentle when it was needed even if he was nervous himself. People come first, their needs and their fears need to be soothed and he knows this deep down in his heart of hearts which is why he'll stuff his own fears down there if need be. However this soothing nature only extends to his bedside manner, for outside of it his bluntness tends to have him putting his foot in his own mouth more than once and generally others simply grow bored in his presence. In fact it's good that sometimes others cannot see what his expression is. Though the mask often across his face comes from turns of being ill as a child it also serves as a beacon for his own mild germaphobia that came about as a result of being sick so often. He's not so afraid of germs that he has no issues getting a job done, but others might find him washing his hands more thoroughly than any around him once he's done.

Positive Trait List: Humble, Studious, Soothing, Devoted
Negative Trait List: Blunt, Perfectionist, Mild germaphobe, Overly Analytical

History: Lucky to be alive was what his mother and every healer that had worked with Liaven as a child often told him. The tiny baby born into the world only seven months after a flight that left his mother pregnant and alone with him wasn't expected to make it through even the night, but a very determined healer at Fort Hold saw him alive the next morning despite his premature birth and size. He would spend the next near decade of his life wandering around that same Hold with a mask over his face every winter and near constantly sick despite it's presence. Somehow he thrived despite that rocky start to his life and grew to have a respect bordering on utter hero worship for all the healers that he met in the halls of Fort, always telling his mother of his desire to become one himself until the day that he was finally old enough to join the Healer Hall as an apprentice. Having outgrown his constant sickness Liaven sought out the opportunity to learn how to heal people as one healer had once done with him.

Even from the first moment that he joined Liaven became an avid note taker and could be seen wandering through the halls after his lessons with a pen and paper in his hands trying to write down everything he'd learned so that he wouldn't possibly forget even the smallest of details. With his calming personality and devotion to learning he became a favorite of one master who took him under their wing with an interest in teaching him trauma healing. It was an interest he'd been curious about, but being under the wing of a master had him flourishing like he hadn't even with all his methodical attention before. For a few turns it was a wonderful environment for him to learn and grow in, to gain a wealth of knowledge that he brought with him even as his life took a different turn.

Thread had begun to fall over Pern once again, devastating it and leaving numerous dead or wounded if they were even lucky enough to survive. Healers were needed now more than ever and on every corner of Pern. When his master was given a different assignment to a hold, it left Liaven somewhat adrift with no one to learn directly under outside of his lessons, something that didn't settle well with him since it felt as if he were slacking. Time had him bumping into a Journeyman of a different craft that seemed interested in teaching him different skills in his downtime and Anuenu became his unofficial teacher/master of sorts without her really realizing it. Though their crafts were different and Liaven couldn't learn about the actual nuances of Trauma Healing from her, the Journeyman who became his friend, a rare feat, showed him every aspect of bedside manner and what she knew about caring for others, something that hadn't truly occurred to him outside of healing them and moving on. Liaven's note taking became even more pronounced in her presence, wanting to write everything she told him down and learn everything that a Journeyman could possibly give since she was so kind to give it to him.

It was a shock and surprise to him to be Searched alongside Anuenu, himself being just barely of age while she was nearing the age cap. While it took some convincing in his own mind, Liaven accepted when he realized that there was much to learn in a Weyr where injuries would be more prevalent and the odds were good that he would not impress at all so he could take what he learned back to the Hold for his attempt at Journeyman. At the very first clutch he stood the violence of it all stunned the little teenager into shocked silence for a full day afterwards even as he made himself useful helping the healers with getting supplies and watching every step of healing the wounded from claw and teeth wounds. In his mind it had only ever been threadfall that he believed would hurt anyone in a Weyr, even if his base studies had told him that the dangers were there. Every bit of paperwork that he could get his hands on, Liaven spent another few months taking notes between candidate lessons and chores until he found himself on a beach.

Unable to bring notes with him, once again(C'mon whyyyyy?), Liaven stood beside his only friend and kept his mind as open and welcoming as he could but it apparently seemed... rather boring to one particular blue. So boring in fact that he popped the top off of his egg in one burst, body still restrained within and began to sing in the most horrendously off key voice as if he were attempting to serenade Liaven. It didn't take him very long to realize that the voice singing in a terrible tune was combined with a voice that kept attempting to beckon him over. Come on Liavenmine, you seem so bored with everything, how are you thinking about little papers right now?! Come and play with me and you don't have to think that hard anymore! When the boy, thunderstruck, didn't move quickly enough, Sarbath simply worked at releasing himself with a few deft kicks and bounced over to him instead, finally gaining a response with a big hug that helped mask that he was already trying to wrap his head around dragon's physical traits by running fingers over ridges and spine to locate muscles. Sarbath simply laughed and hasn't stopped.
Other: Why can't notes be taken everywhere? Do people not understand his anguish without?!

DRAGON
Name: Sarbath
Origin of Name: A Sarabats (or drink stalls) were popular from Colonial times until their slow decline recently. The name originated from a drink called Serbat, hot tea with condensed milk and ginger juice, now popularly known as 'the halia'.
Inspiration: Teh tarik (literally "pulled tea" ) is a hot milk tea beverage which can be commonly found in restaurants, outdoor stalls and kopi tiams within the Southeast Asian countries of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Its name is derived from the pouring process of "pulling" the drink during preparation. It is made from a strong brew of black tea blended with condensed milk. It is the national drink of Malaysia.

The origins of teh tarik can be traced to Indian Muslim immigrants in the Malay Peninsula who set up drink stalls at the entrance of rubber plantations after World War II to serve the workers there. Since colonial times, teh tarik has been a popular Malaysian Indian cuisine for many in British Malaya and Singapore. Traditionally, teh tarik has been seen served with the Roti canai which has become a popular breakfast set by Malaysians until today.

An element of showmanship exists in the preparation of teh tarik. The ability to drag a long stream of tea above the heads of the patrons without giving them a shower is an amusing novelty for the locals and tourists alike. In Malaysia, there are occasions where teh tarik brewers gather for competitions and performances to show their skills. Teh tarik has become recognized along with nasi lemak as part of the food and beverage heritage of Malaysia by the Malaysian government ministry.
Personality: Had he been born in another time and possibly impressed to a different Candidate, Sarbath might have run away to join the circus the second he could Between, and you can be certain that he would be flashy about it. With a brain that almost seems hardwired to find the fun in everything this blue all but runs through life like a wreckingball of creativity and drive, finding ways to create a good time all around himself while he does. If there exists only one way to do things then he'll throw himself at finding numerous ways to make the same result happen with as much pomp and flair as possible, what's life without a little bit of a show after all? Even if that show sometimes comes across as him being foolish and silly. Surely none will ever be bored around him, for even the smallest and most mundane of activities is undertaken with the same keenness that he focuses on everything. Life and threadfall aren't so much an obstacle or misfortune so much as a game that he enjoys playing.

While he enjoys playing the game that he believes life to be, Sarbath absolutely wants to be the best at it as well and his aspirations know as few limits as his inventive enthusiasm does. Wingsecond, Wingleader, maybe even higher? With his creative mind he can see dozens of ways to get there and they are always there in the back of his mind. That streak runs the risk of landing him in hot water however, for with that ambition comes a terrible irritation for any moving too slowly around him or attempting to hold him back, which sparks a colorful side of the blue that's more negative than anything. Once pushed to the point of impatience he'll seem to devolve almost before the eyes into a foul mouthed and terribly irresponsible child if unchecked or opposed by something he deems less than worth his time. While these moments are few and far between, his words could land him in extremely hot water if he isn't tempered by his rider and any little thing he's been told will be dredged up for petty purposes of harm that he doesn't intend outside of his hot headed moments.

The issue with that information is he will always seem to find more with his obliging personality, as he wants desperately to help others and possesses the adaptable frame of character to do so. Attentive to others needs past what might seem necessary and always offering a wing or kind heart to listen, others tend to bare their souls and pasts to Sarbath and while it doesn't always come back to bite them, his lack of an ability to be discreet about things pairs horribly with his impatience. In his attempts to get back into other's good graces after opening his mouth and putting his clawed feet in there, Sarbath tends to do all that he can for them, hoping that this might bandage their relationship.
Positive Traits: Enthusiastic, Creative, Ambitious, Protean
Negative traits: Indiscreet, Impatient, Vulgar, Overly Obliging

Size: 29'
Physical Attributes: Loooooong and lean, with back legs that seem to stretch out while his unfortunately short front legs seem to give him a view on the world that's tilted askew. Sarbath looks as if he were pulled from nose and tail to stretch him out and his front legs suffered the consequences for it a bit by being stubbier than the average, but this blue keeps his head up all the same! As if to make up for those attributes he is incredibly flexible and that gives him some agility in the air even if he often uses it for his own purposes rather than during threadfall, something that will bring some ease to his rider. In flight he can look somewhat elegant if he stops fooling around!
Additional Notes: Chasing isn't really in this blue's nature unless he's deeply in love with the rising dragon and knows that they love him back, even if those requirements are all met he'll be far more playful than driven. Color and size difference is immaterial, Sarbath just wants to have fun!

Possibly thanks to his shorter front legs, Sarbath enjoys sitting back on his hind legs and watching the world with his front legs sort of dangling or resting on his knees as a youngster. Time remains to tell if this odd trait will remain in adulthood.

Why Me: If there were ever a pair that could balance one another out, these two are it. Sarbath’s constant need to be creative and enriched meshes with Liaven’s humble devotion to anything he sets his mind to, in fact he knew from the moment that he could sense the boy on the sands that he needed him so desperately that he couldn't help himself. As a dreamer at heart, the little blue sought out his realistic lifemate like honing in on a target, and he had nothing but a burning desire to be his whole world. Sarbath's creative and excited mind is the only one that stands a chance of pulling Liaven's studious realism out of the ground to get him started, while the boy's humble personality and perfectionist qualities will keep his dragon from being so over the top that they pay the price. Each of them has something to give the other, while also something that adds to temper and bolster them in turn so that they can soar to the heights that Sarbath will surely see himself at.

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training? Where Liaven happily takes all information and soaks it up, writing it down when possible and trying to memorize it mentally when unable, the pair of them got in the most trouble when Sarbath decided to nix what he was learning and try his own things. While they weren't the absolute worst and Liaven learned fairly quickly how to control and subvert his exciteable dragon, Sarbath still left quite an impression whether good or bad.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Between Sarbath's constant desire to show off and drive to be the best and Liaven's near constant note taking and need to soak up information even when the notes were taken from him, it could be hit or miss depending on the sibling. Deep down the little blue loves all his siblings and wants the best for them, willing to take every opportunity to do so for them, even if he tends to mess it up from time to time.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? Oh how boooooooring! Must they always do it the old ways? rang in Liaven's mind quite often during their training but with time he was able to control his dragon's incessent complaints about how uninspired the ages old training maneuvers and teachings were. If Sarbath was bored he still learned even during it, for his mind never quite stops and bolstered by his rider's sponge-like mind the training was instilled in him, even if he might not have been their favorite of all weyrlings dragons at the time. Liaven always made certain to apologize to his Masters and all involved when appropriate.

How did they do during Threadfall? Sarbath might believe that he and his rider are essentially immortal with his 'skills' but it proves all theories incorrect with time. No one escapes thread unscathed and these two were no different. Large scars trace across Liaven's back where Thread ate through his riding jacket when a clump flew into them and scars mar the blue's lower wingsails where the remainder hit and attempted to eat through. Both required being dunked and some downtime, to each of their humiliation despite having done the best they could that fall. Since that first threadfall and their wounding, the pair of them have been learning even more how to work together, understanding where their weaknesses lie and where strengths can be bolstered so they fly better for their wing and Weyr in the future.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Thread returned before Liaven was even searched, but it simply went to galvanize his need to help others. While he took the chance to stand as a Candidate at a Weyr, he had the underlying desire to help should he not Impress at all and so thought it would be best. Which of course lead him to Sarbath who views it as a challenge, one that needs to be faced head on with every ounce of creativity that dragonriders have so that Pern can survive.

Anything else? Always shoot for the stars

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Delris
Age: 28
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Is it female, of age, and at least mildly attractive? He’ll take it.
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Harper (Novelist, dabbles in drawing and painting)

Physical Description: A slim man of average height and boyish looks. His overall frame is lanky, a bit knobby in the shoulders and a bit long in the chin. He has pale peach skin and blond hair that is a tossup between sandy and strawberry. Within deep-set eyes, his near-black irises are so large that he tends to appear slightly cross-eyed when focused on something directly in front of him. This tends to lend to an overall appearance of innocence, which he takes full advantage of.

While he generally focuses on cultivating this trustworthy image to his own ends, he does have a colorful set of sneers and smolders that he will absolutely switch on if the mood is right.

Personality: This wide-eyed young man is sweet, polite, and perhaps even a bit dashing. He’s certainly chivalrous where the ladies are concerned. He tends to exude a bright, if unconscious innocence, a humble fellow with a faint tinge of sorrow beneath the surface of his words once one gets him talking long enough on the right subject. Once in a while, though, he might give a particularly sharp look, or crack a somewhat off-color joke. Both would feel a little foreign coming from him and might elicit a startled glance or a raise of a brow from acquaintances and those who hold shallower levels of friendship.

In short, that is because he’s something akin to a soft, adorable stuffed animal shell that has been sewn around a sarcastic sack of wherry waste instead of puffs of batting and a squeak-maker. Most likely in that last scenario, somebody got close enough to squeeze him, and instead of a cute little peep, something far less pleasant leaked out. He looks harmless on the outside, but on the inside Delris is a wicked little imp. He enjoys tormenting his brother and closest friends with pranks and affectionate but irritating or startling gestures, like unexpected pinches. His choice of words in those private moments is often chock full of biting sarcasm, but can also be quite demonstrative in that or any setting. It is is very sincere toward certain people, and a targeted attack toward others.

He relishes pulling the wool over people’s eyes, especially when he manages to get away with something under the nose of one of his superiors. Back when training at at Harper Hall, while it was only an occasional occurrence and his system rarely worked more than once on any of them, he did things like convince one of his masters to forgive a “lost” assignment, another to excuse him from a boring class for a couple of days to help elsewhere—harmless stuff, but boy, was it satisfying.

Of his works of a less harmless nature, the (VERY FEW) ladies who know who he truly is under the guise of innocence would know it’s safer to remain unmoved by his sweeter speeches. He is not afraid to let the cute ones assume he’s serious, and then play the fool later on when she learns she’s lost her heart to someone who just had no idea she felt so strongly! Oh dear, he's so sorry! He might not be the one for her, but he’s sure that one is out there, somewhere! He’s a discreet but shameless opportunist.

Well, mostly shameless. Guilt is for the weak and dependent, so he just kicks it under the rug and focuses on something else until it quiets down. That won’t ever come back to bite him. Nope, just a big forgotten vault of shame and self-loathing, filling up a little more every day. Totally never going to hit some sort of limit on that, no sir.

He’s pretty good at making friends, but does end up with enemies despite his best efforts to dodge such entanglements. Though true enemies are thankfully rare, when he wins himself one, it’s usually a humdinger in his opinion, whether it be an enraged father or brother defending a lady’s honor, or a superior who knows his deceit and never gives him an inch of wiggle room. He tries to avoid it, but illicit behavior of any sort inevitably results in a comeuppance sooner or later. He’s suffered some real shiners, cracked ribs and one knife wound over the last ten turns or so.

Delris is good at bending the spoken word to his will, but also writes and publishes novels, including romances. If we're being honest, he thinks they are completely asinine—he knows what love is really like, and he knows his audience. He writes merely for the marks and, on occasion, other perks. Just because some passionate fans assume he’s a romantic person doesn’t make him so, but he’ll let them have their little fantasies. The ultimate irony of it all could be that, perhaps somewhere in the deeps of his heart, there is a longing to be loved by one woman, but of course he doesn’t actually believe in that being a possibility, sneering at it from underneath all of those layers of jading and spite. If he ever meets this mythical “The One,” he’s probably going to hurt her long before realizing, and accepting, who she really is.

While his brother Osris never falls for and is actually capable of mitigating some of his behavior, the only thing that has ever truly succeeded in tying him down and tempering him thus far is his dragon, who has (only temporarily, thank Faranth) restricted every scheme or impulse that occurred to him while they were weyrlings.

Positive Trait List Charming, persuasive, affectionate
Negative Trait List Selfish, manipulative, two-faced

History: Delris was born in Nabol Hold to a couple of book shop owners. He spent a large part of his childhood escaping into those books, taking comfort in the fantasies, romantic love stories and consistently-happy endings. His parents were good to him and his brother Osris, but acted like they hated each other for as long as he can remember. He never knew who started it or how, but they were constantly retaliating against each other’s infidelity by imitating it, then arguing and never talking about it, solving nothing. He couldn’t understand why, but they must have loved each other deep down, for they stayed together through their differences even though they were well-off enough to split the business and part ways. Delris always wished they would split up, because their behavior was so frightening when he was young, then hurtful and annoying, and he found it just unbearably idiotic by the time he was mature enough to up and walk out of the house himself, leaving them and taking Osris with him. If that was married life, he wanted nothing to do with it, and hoped his brother avoided it as well.

They studied at Harper Hall, where Delris took a cue from the books he’d read and learned to harness the power of words in a way that was actually profitable. He became a novelist, making good marks with lies about love and happy endings. When he developed the interest in it, he imitated his parents and applied his skills to making a certain sort of friends as well. He avoided the stigma for a good while with his wily ways, but eventually got himself (rightfully) pegged as a womanizer when one too many of his dates discovered and talked to others.

Quite timely, from his perspective, he and his brother Osris were Searched to Western Weyr for a fresh start. He enjoyed the simplicity of his work as a candidate, and continued his novels as best he could in his spare time. Sometimes he found it even easier to finagle what he wanted there than it’d been at Harper Hall, where a few of the Masters were some of the wiliest people Pern had to offer. He was much more careful with the ladies at the Weyr, dallying with only one at a time and not for very long, developing skill with seemingly sincere apologies when things “weren’t working out” after a few weeks, or days. He rarely went long without having someone to keep him company, thanks in part to the assistance of the constant greenflights that went on at the Weyr. He also encouraged a sort of “tragic hero” reputation for himself that was quite helpful. He was a poor lonely boy who just wanted to be loved! And there was a fairly regular supply of those who erroneously thought they might be the right one do it.

Life was pretty good until the candidates were whisked away to a distant beach and Qewath hatched. The greatest gift he’d ever received—the love of a dragon—came with a price: total fidelity to Western Weyr. While that wasn’t such a bad thing in itself, it took away any opportunity of escape, should the need arise. He might have to change his ways again, but it was obvious (though hard for him to digest) that Qewath was going to more than make up for that by being the unconditional love he believed he never had. Still, people don’t change overnight, and it would certainly be a long road to recovery for Delris.

Other: Both Delris and Osris are illegitimate; one the son of the father, one the son of the mother.

DRAGON
Name: Qewath
Origin of Name: Qehwa, an alternate spelling of Kahwah.
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y
- - - - > If your tea type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color: Green
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y
Inspiration: Kahwah is a traditional green tea preparation consumed in India the Western Ghats, the Malabar region, and Kashmir, from where it spread to Central Asia. Kahwah is usually served to guests or as part of a celebration dinner, and saffron (kong) is added to the kahwah for special visitors. It is often served in tiny, shallow cups. In Kashmir, Kahwah is also commonly served after Wazwan and elaborate family dinners.

This tea is made by boiling green tea leaves with saffron strands, cinnamon bark, cardamom pods, and occasionally Kashmiri roses to add a great aroma. Generally, it is served with sugar or honey and crushed nuts, usually almonds or walnuts. Some varieties are made as an herbal infusion only, without the green tea leaves. Traditionally, kahwah is prepared in a copper kettle known as a samovar. A samovar consists of a "fire-container" running as a central cavity, in which live coals are placed keeping the tea perpetually hot. Around the fire-container there is a space for water to boil and the tea leaves and other ingredients are mixed with the water. Kahwah may also be made in normal pans and vessels, as modern day urban living may not always permit the use of elaborate samovars.

Also within her personality are small nods back to Indian culture.

Personality Qewath is a sweet, warm, welcoming creature. She’s always polite and loves to visit friends and family, or even better, entertain company in her own wallow. Those connections to others, especially blood kin, are very important to her. She feels a bit lost without those tethers, and the more she has, the better. She can suffer from separation anxiety when away from her rider or a beloved dragon for too long, so she spends a lot of time speaking long-distance with her clutchsiblings who chose High Reaches candidates to alleviate that need, and hopes to visit them soon.

In some ways, it might have been nice if she’d have gone with them to that Weyr. She has a strong sense of class structure within her kind, tending to defer to browns, bronzes and golds without complaint, sometimes even if their requests cross the line of common sense. Though Western approves all colors for leadership, she knows such a goal isn’t right for her. She is no one special, and perfectly happy to live the mundane life allowed those of lesser rankings.

Qewath loves fighting Thread! She is a bit gung-ho, wanting to be like the strongest and bravest dragons in the Weyr and in stories Delris has written or read to her. Her heroism is a little exaggerated and not particularly realistic. Her stamina isn’t the greatest, and she’s definitely not invincible—facts her rider has to remind her of quite frequently.

When she rises, if there isn’t any chaser in particular that she especially desires, she will attempt to pick a blue or brown who is bonded to a woman. Maybe that one will be the right one for her rider? All she can do is try. She believes no one is meant to be alone, and believes Delris would be happiest being loved and surrounded by a veritable clan of his own blood, as she is among her own kin. She is glad that she was shelled as a green, not for the fact that her instinct to rise often would be enjoyable for him, but that her consistent, gentle requests for him to stay just one more night afterward might eventually bring about something fulfilling and long-term, if not permanent.

Size: 22’
Physical Attributes: Where her rider’s innocent appearance and demeanor is somewhat affected, Qewath’s is completely natural. She is on the smaller side of average, a very slender green with large, expressive eyes and a pretty little nose. Her legs, toes and headknobs are well-formed but seem to be staying relatively shorter as she grows, as are her wings. Her proportions cause her to somewhat resemble a perpetual nestling-waif.
Additional Notes: Her mind speech is soft and gentle, calling up sensations of warmth and a faint, spicy scent.

Why Me: Qewath saw right through the front Delris puts up from the moment she felt his mind arrive on that beach, and was baffled by her own conclusion that he has completely convinced himself that he must pretend to be something he already is. That fascinating paradox, perhaps, was the deciding factor in her choosing him over someone who valued family as much as she does. Family is very important to Qewath, and she will gently impress this value upon her rider, who, aside from his half-brother, seems to have rejected the idea of family altogether.

Since common sense isn’t quite so common, at least for Qewath, Delris will be there to provide that in spades. He’s not so willing to blindly trust everyone, nor bend his knee at the first whim of a someone with a knot above his own. Hopefully, his reluctance and her enthusiasm will eventually balance each other out. This also applies to Threadfighting—girl needs a bit of a woah! now and then to remind her that she isn’t some legendary, invincible hero like the ones she’s heard about in harper tales. He’d like them both to enjoy their life together for a long, long time, thank you!

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training? Delris and Qewath were generally good students, aside from a few slips unrelated to the actual classroom training or practical applications. Del is fairly book-smart and a trained harper, so classroom learning was especially easy for him. The pair was perhaps a bit too chatty at times in class—Qewath in particular, being thrilled to have all her clutchsiblings together so often.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? They got along well with most! A social pair, Qewath loves her clutchmates more than anyone else aside from her rider, and Del is always out to keep himself on everyone’s good side. He may have attempted one affair with a fellow weyrling (or someone else depending on potential backplots, and whether or not getting so close to that blunder as a weyrling is doable in our canon), which of course was not successful because of infant Qewath’s extreme response to confusing emotions.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? Qewath was all in, but Delris was resistant. Though he expected all the general restrictions that would come with Impression, it was very difficult when the time came to actually put them into practice. Qewath had two serious upsets while he tested the limits, the second of which had her on the verge of between. It was one of those “Maybe that’s true for some people, but it’ll never happen to me” sort of decisions. For better or for worse, that was enough to shock Delris onto the straight and narrow for the rest of weyrlinghood. The fun parts like learning to fly were an absolute blast all the way through, though.

How did they do during Threadfall? You can bet Delris' self-preservation sirens were going full bore, and it effected their performance poorly. They made some stupid mistakes and have a bit of scoring to show for it, but managed to stay in one piece. Thankfully, Qewath has the instincts and the joyful fighters’ spirit, and Del has been slowly learning to trust that, along with the pair’s training.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? The dragon is pleased to fight her natural enemy, and intends to give her best in doing so. The man, on the other hand, is afraid of it, now that it has become “real” to him as a rider. It is a horrifying creature from nightmares that devours living beings and can’t be reasoned with. He counts himself very lucky to have not lost anyone to such a terror. Though he often wishes Qewath had come before Thread returned so they could live freely outside of a Weyr, he’ll fight it for the sake and happiness of his dragon, understanding that he has no real choice in the matter. With time and experience, though, his confidence should grow.

Anything else? I AM SORRY THIS IS SO LONG.

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Noska
Age: 22
Sex: female
Sexual Orientation: bisexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: n/a
Physical Description: Her long brown hair is really Noska's crowing glory. She spends an inordinate amount of time caring for it and styling it. Not that she ignores the rest of her appearance. Even though she's lost the pale luminescence which had marked her early in her candidacy courtesy of all the time spent outdoors, Noska is careful to keep her skin clean and as blemish-free as possible, and always takes the time to apply kohl around her eyes, no matter what the plans for the day are (although it may be as simple as an outline of her eyelashes). Her eyes are a fairly unremarkable brown, her figure is about what one would expect from someone who was a candidate for three turns and then a weyrling, and her lips are full and red (because she deliberately bites them to make them appear so). It is important, she feels, to always look "on brand" (in other words, clean and good-looking enough to be mistaken for an authority figure, even if she doesn't have any actual authority).
Personality:
Noska's favorite stories growing up were those of strong weyrwomen who led their weyrs through tumultuous times, performed daring last-minute heroics, and died tragically in their lover(s)' arms. When the harper (not to mention her foster parents) tried to tell her that wasn't exactly how things usually went, and that the best weyrwomen tended to be those who prevented tumultuous times in the first place with good planning and sensible leadership she didn't want to hear it.

She still doesn't want to hear it. Dragonriders are heroes in Noska's mind. Always have been, always will be, and for as long as she can remember, Noska has wanted to be one. She wants to be immortalized in song alongside weyrwomen like Moreta and Lessa. That is basically the most important thing about her. That, and her fervent belief that she can be, if she simply patterns her life after theirs.

Noska actually believes that if she looks the part convincingly enough, everything else will fall into place. To that end, she takes great care with her appearance (because heroes are always attractive) and tries her best to embody the traits she values in a leader, like courage, optimism, generosity, and goodness.

As a teenager this meant she actually tended to speak in excessively florid language, like she'd walked right out of a tapestry or ballad, but after she was Searched the candidatemaster took her aside and told her to cut it out, it was weird and would not help her chances to Impress a dragon. She still tends to speak in what are basically quotable soundbites, which makes actually conversing with her feel a little stilted, but she's really toned it down a great deal in the last two turns.

Overall, it's not a bad strategy, except for the fact that Noska really doesn't like hard work, and really wants people to admire her. So when she's not instantly good at something, she tends to avoid doing it and when she is instantly good at something, she does it a lot. Preferably with an audience. The same goes for things she knows. If she doesn't know something, it's not important, but if she does know something, her hand will be waving in the air so the teacher will call on her and she will positively expound on the topic, no matter how far off-topic she may end up, or who she may annoy by butting into a conversation.

It is worth noting that Noska has never managed to internalize that it is possible to be brave while also being afraid, as long as you do the thing that scares you anyway. She's very good at doing things that scare her, but she believes the fact that she's afraid means she isn't brave. She does not think of herself as brave, and is very touchy about perceived implications that she is not brave or has not acted with courage.
Positive Trait List brave; well-intentioned; idealistic
Negative Trait List vain; show-off; lazy; gives a strong impression of phoniness
History:
Noska was a fosterling who bonded happily with her foster parents and siblings, but especially with the harper, who told the best stories, a thing she came to appreciate profoundly after a prolonged illness in her eleventh turn which kept her indoors for the better part of a turn, during which she was bored out of her skull with the mending and smallwork permitted to her, and had no other real responsibilities except to learn her lessons. It was during this period that she really became enamored of the idea of actually becoming a hero, instead of just listening to songs and stories about them.

After that, she started doing the hero thing, where she did her best to act like the leading lady in a ballad. By the time she was Searched at fifteen, that persona had more or less become the way she really thought of herself, but with the physical awkwardness that accompanied the onset of puberty (Noska was a late bloomer), she had begun to go overboard with it, using antiquated speech patterns that possibly no one had ever used and unnecessarily grandiose vocabulary. Being Search both reinforced the idea in her head that by seeming like a hero, she would become a hero, and also gave her an entirely new situation to adapt to.

She was absolutely the weird girl in her candidate class for nearly a turn, largely because she was such a dragonrider fangirl when she first arrived that it was just cringeworthy and awful for people to be around her for too long (unless they were dragonfolk who liked to be fawned over or similarly adoring weyrfolk). Fortunately, she outgrew that stage, along with the awkwardness of new puberty, and as she got comfortable in her own skin again and turned out to be moderately attractive, people either found it easier to put up with her or she felt she didn't have to try quite so hard to impress people. Either way, she did actually find a way to get along with folks, and the only real complaints she had about her life were that there were entirely too many unexciting things like work and lessons to do, and it was taking an awfully long time for her gold to find her.

She was twenty one when she finally Impressed, and to be perfectly honest, Impressing a green was a bit of a bump in her plans, as Noska had always seen herself in the role of a goldrider, but it took no time at all for Feslegenth to show her that they wanted the same things, and Noska quickly became convinced that they would accomplish those great things together. They'd just have to do them at Western Weyr!

Other: Although she was searched by High Reaches, Noska and Feslegenth intend to request a transfer to Western Weyr at some point in the future since they both imagine that there will be more opportunity for a green pair to advance there than at High Reaches. However, they first plan to be named wingseconds and then maybe even wingleaders. Obviously those are just their IC hopes. Also, both dragon and rider cannot be convinced that there isn't a magical turning point at which they will stop having to conform to a daily routine and be able to simply exist without drills or chores or anything mundane. They're in for a rude awakening.

DRAGON
Name: Feslegenth
Origin of Name: Tulsi tea is taken from the tulsi plant, which is also known as "holy basil." The name Feslegenth comes from fesleğen, the Turkish word for "basil."

Inspiration: Tulsi tea is used in Indian culture as a religious, spiritual, and healing herb. Dried tulsi leaves can be steeped to create an invigorating herbal tea. It is often described in Hindu texts with words like "holy," "divine," "god," and "queen."

One legend about tulsi marks the plant as the earthly manifestation of Lakshmith, the goddess of wealth and principle consort to the Hindu god Vishnu, whose other two wives cursed her to be born on earth as a plant. Another legend relates tulsi to the Samudra Manthana, the churning of the cosmic ocean by the gods and demons during battle, after which the gods' physician, Dhanavantari, offered the elixir of immortality, in thanks for which the god Vishnu shed happy tears, the first of which fell into the elixir and sprouted the tulsi plant. A third legend places the tulsi as a threshold between heaven and earth, with the creator god Brahma residing in its branches while other deities dwell in its stem leaves, the Ganges River and Hindu pilgramage centers residing through its roots, and the Hindu scriptures in the upper part of its branches.
Personality
Feslengenth is confident that she is destined for greatness. The fact that her hide is green is immaterial. She knows that she is magnificence itself, and is unshakable in her belief, after all, she is large, lovely, and bonded to the best person on Pern. She very much sees herself as a sort of ambassador for chromatic dragons, especially greens. Greens are great. She would have a sash made with that slogan embroidered on it and wear it everywhere if that was a thing people did on Pern. She would hand out buttons saying the same, and whenever she encounters people who believe differently, she treats it as a teaching moment, gleefully detailing all the wonderful things green dragons can do and have done and might do if given the opportunity. When she gets on her soapbox, it can be more than a little obnoxious, but her heart's in the right place.

Apart from her chromatic advocacy, Feslengenth is genuinely a kind and caring dragon who will go out of her way to check in on injured wingmates and likes to try to solve others' interpersonal problems by acting as a mediator. She will do this without being asked, but she loves to be asked. She loves to be asked for advice, as well, although she's happy to offer that for free, too. Honestly, Feslengenth is more than a bit of a busybody, and really enjoys having a cause to advance, but aside from her rider's goals and her greens are great campaign, she doesn't have a lot of dedication when it comes to things like causes (or grudges - she's very hard to make an enemy of) and tends to give up when things get too hard.

What she loves most, though is fighting Thread. Thread is the Enemy. She knows it is her purpose to destroy it, and she delights in it. Her willingness to stand up to authority is borne out in her fearlessness facing actually danger. Or, it would be if she didn't have a very vulnerable human being who she loves more than life itself strapped to her back. The fact that she shares Noska's desire to do good deeds and act heroically doesn't mean she doesn't fear for her much more helpless rider's safety when confronted with actual danger, which is something they will have to find some way to cope with. Once they get more comfortable, Feslengenth and Noska will be a great team, if not necessarily great team players because of their shared tendency to showboat.

It must be said that Feslengenth is not a paragon of perfection and open-minded wisdom. She is incredibly susceptible to the fallacy that if a person is good-looking they must also be a good person. Appearances matter to her not just because she is aware that she represents all green dragonhood, but because she simply likes to look nice and to be surrounded by nice-looking things.

Size: 27'
Physical Attributes: On the larger end of the green scale and powerfully built, Feslegenth has more endurance than the average green, but is less maneuverable. As a weyrling she would overeat in the hopes that it would have an effect on her ultimate size as an adult, but as she's come into her last growth spurt she's going to have to cut that out, or else she'll get fat.
Additional Notes: Feslegenth prefers to be pursued by bronzes when she rises, and so is always happiest when her flights coincide with gold flights, which bring all the bronzes to the yard. She has a tendency to belch her flames, rather than breathe them out on a controlled exhale if no one in authority is watching because she believes that she can store up heat and range by doing so. There is no evidence to suggest she is correct in this belief.

Why Me: Feslengenth and Noska share a desire for greatness and ideal world that they really, really want to either stumble upon or create. It isn’t only the fact that they both have an ideal world in mind, but the fact that their ideal worlds are very, very similar places. The fact that Feslengenth is a chromatic dragon rather than a metallic opened Noska’s eyes to the idea that everything doesn’t have to fit the prescribed narrative and will continue to do so, while Noska’s ambition to be remembered on a global, historic scale will encourage Feslengenth to think on a grand scale when she goes about advocating for change.

Feslengenth saw in Noska an earnest, good-willed young woman with lofty aspirations and a great capacity to love. Someone who would be a partner to the green in achieving her own dreams, but also a friend to relax with. She was also, to be completely honest, more than a little impressed by how put-together Noska managed to look at the hatching, and how attractive she was (for a pink-skinned quadruped).

It’s possible that in Noska Feslengenth also subconsciously chose a rider who would not push her too far beyond her comfort zone. She and Noska share an aversion to hard work or struggling, and will usually agree to abandon something they’re not succeeding at before they have to face the possibility of failing at it.

- - - -
What were they like in weyrling training? They tended not to try as hard as they could have, and not to pay close attention. A lot of details were probably missed unless they were repeated over and over. Unless something interested them, of course, and then they had a lot to say on the topic. They had absolutely no appreciation for formation and tactics, or other "boring" subjects, and would probably have distracted each other or other students during those discussions.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? They almost certainly would have wanted to make friends, but they would not have been overly concerned if people did not like them. Every hero needs an antagonist, after all. Someone to drive them to be better with their opposition. Someone to win over. Really, though, both Feslengenth and Noska prefer to have a group of friends and would have devoted more time to being social than studying.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? Honestly...they resented the restrictions placed on their behavior, and the chores, but they were able to reframe it as part of their heroes' journey and accept it as a necessary period of drudgery on their way to greatness.

How did they do during Threadfall? So-so. In their first Fall they were both far more afraid than they expected to be, and stayed perfectly in formation and took no risks whatsoever. Afterward, neither was pleased with their perfectly average performance, and so things were different the next time. Unable to forget how afraid they had been last time, Noska and Feslengeth wanted to prove to themselves that they were not cowards, and so they kept wanting to break formation to play hero, and on at least two occasions gave in to the impulse. Fortunately no one got hurt as a result (and they both believe if they hadn't broken formation the people/dragons they went to rescue would've actually been injured).

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Best. Thing. Ever. Well, um, y'know. Terrible and all that, too. Especially for people who get caught in it or whose fields or animals are damaged by it, but if Thread hadn't returned they would not have so many opportunities to prove their worth.

Anything else? So, this pair really isn't interested in overthrowing the hierarchy or anything like that. They aren't the sort to talk back or get into fights. They just want to make a positive difference in the world in a way that will make them famous forever without requiring a great deal of effort or personal sacrifice.

Sit Down & Have Some Tea...

Name: Z'ri - from Zadrik
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: ;D
Weyr: Western Weyr
---->Would you be willing to change where they Impressed to fill an NPC slot? Y
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Pirate/Cabin Boy
Physical Description: /gestures to all of him

5'11" of pure, wiry muscle over a svelte frame. Z'ri would claim he's 6' tall, but then again... that's probably only when he's wearing boots. His skin is olive toned, quite at contrast with his strawberry blond hair, which he wears tapered short on one side, medium on the other. His laughing silver-grey eyes hold a plenitude of secrets, and he's more than happy to share them with the right person. Usually found wearing a jacquard damask coat that he swindled off of an unwary merchant, Z'ri presents a mixed image of devil-may-care and dapper.

Personality: This assertive young man had no trouble at all convincing a ship full of pirates to take him on board. However deadly the captain's reputation, Z'ri was not afraid. Why should he be, after all? There's always room aboard a ship for a young man with big dreams and a ready hand. However, it was his ability to follow through with his claims that kept his place on the Revenge. He's very good at talking his way into and out of trouble, and excels in knowing who to befriend. Perhaps he got that quality from his Harper father, learning how to hold an audience with words and voice alone. Perhaps he simply honed his talents on his many siblings. Who can say? Z'ri knows and won't tell.

He's friendly, although one might question his motives. Does he really want to hang out, or does he want that pretty bauble he's seen you toying with? At the end of the day, however, he was raised by a healer who happened to also be a dragonrider, so impure or not, he's no monster. You can trust that, whatever his motivations might be, no one would actually get hurt by them - or Z'ri would hear it from his father immediately. And the worst part is the dragons would join in. Not that he hasn't broken plenty of hearts. He's an unabashed hedonist, and would cheerfully tumble any number of lovely boys into his bed if he thought they'd go willingly.

The trouble tends to be getting the lad to stick around. When his heart's given fully, he won't stray, but good luck getting him to settle down in the first place. The only ones who hold his heart without reservation are his dragon, Talmaith and his close knit family. With two fathers and a pack of little siblings, Z'ri has had plenty of experience sharing that love around. That background has given him confidence in spades, and a certain untried boldness that hasn't seen the heat of battle, just yet. He certainly has a courageous heart, and would willingly throw himself in harm's way if it meant that someone helpless could be saved. He has a high regard for his own skin, but not to the extent that he won't risk it.

Positive Trait List Confident, charismatic, courageous
Negative Trait List Smug, self-indulgent, swaggering

History: By the time that Zadrik came along, his parents had settled at Western Weyr for the duration. And so, although they were not weyrbred themselves, young Zadrik grew up enjoying the hospitality of the Weyr from the start. His birth was only the beginning, for they didn't seem willing to stop at one - one father, had, after all, contributed genes, surely both needed children of their own! But his parents had a hunger for a large family, and so little Zadrik found himself awash in a near horde of siblings! It is not completely clear to him whether his parents plan to slow down or stop anytime soon... and so he has learned to go out of his way to get attention.

As one of many, the boy might have become a bit resentful that his place had been usurped, but neither parent showed a jot less love to the boy than they had before. Not to mention the pair's dragons assisted in doling out parental love... and there was always the creche when it came down to it. So although there had been a worry for a moment that the boy would turn to sulks, his mischievous, sunny nature continued unabated. In fact, it was quite apparent that there was even more trouble to get up to.

By the time that he might have first been allowed to Stand as a Candidate, Zadrik had made up his mind that he was going to run away. Not because he didn't love his parents, mind, or because he wasn't happy. He just badly wanted to go out there and see the wide world, and maybe get into some scrapes - and get himself out of those very scrapes - so that he could prove himself. Why he had such an overwhelming need to do that very thing was a bit of a mystery. Maybe it was because his papa had been a bit well known before he'd dedicated himself to Weyr life, or because his father had such a stellar reputation among the weyrfolk. Maybe it was because he wanted to distinguish himself from his sibs.

Whatever the reason, Zadrik hied up to the most ferocious looking pirate captain he could find, and boldly made his case to the man! At first tempted to toss the whelp out just on principle, Captain Black decided to take Zadrik on, after assurances from the boy that he, of course, wouldn't mind just being a cabin boy. Naturally, that claim lasted all the way up to the first battle, in which Zadrik just had to take part. He didn't get away without a scratch, however, and when called upon to explain his actions, he said he couldn't help himself. It was just in his blood, and he'd wanted a piece of the action.

Since the boy hadn't done too badly, they let him carry on as he had been, with an admonition to stay out of the way if he was in over his head. It was his skin that would need saving, and him the one doing the saving. No need for heroics from a bloodthirsty boy. The next engagement proved to be profitable, and it was here that Zadrik acquired a treasured possession - a deep blue jacquard damask coat, far too large for his then-small frame. But he'd gotten it fair and square, and he treated the thing like it was made from spun starlight, refusing to allow even a tear to show on its glorious length.

It was at about that time that a matching Blue dragon informed him, under no uncertain terms, that he, Zadrik, had been found on Search, and was expected to come along with the fellow's rider to Western Weyr. Crestfallen, but no little amused by the fact that his fathers' contemporaries had not recognized him, the boy decided that he might as well give the thing a shot. After all, if he'd been Searched by the very Weyr that he'd ran away from, well, maybe he was meant for the dragonriding life after all. Not that he hadn't been sending letters home, anyway.

Both papa and father had been overjoyed upon his return, no little because he'd turned up practically unscathed from his erstwhile adventures. ... Not, of course, that that was a lesson that they very much wanted his little siblings to learn. But his reputation was sealed: the prodigal son who returned with tales of epic conquest and not a scar to be found! Well, not big ones, anyway. Zadrik settled into this new business of being a Candidate with, if not ease, then a certain amount of curiosity. Although he'd grown up at Western, this had not been a part of his day to day life.

When the next clutch hadn't been at Western, but at an unfamiliar island, Zadrik had taken it in stride. He hadn't expected anything to come of it. That was, however, when he was poleaxed by the sudden introduction of a little blue dragon name of Talmaith. The baby hadn't by any means been the first to hatch, but he had made quite a show of his selection - not as much as his sister, surely, but he'd been very particular on the choice. When, at last, he'd settled right in front of Zadrik, he proudly proclaimed his name to the newly-made rider, and informed him under no uncertain terms that Z'ri was his. And so it has been ever since.

Other: Clotheshorse. When Z'ri isn't peacocking his newest find in front of a mirror, he's inclined to take his meager stipend to the nearest Gather, just in case something fantastic happens to cross his path. Usually that just means saving a little longer, as his budget is by no means sky high. Alas. He enjoys, quite thoroughly, indulging in fine food and wine, and tends to throw himself into training to counteract the effects thereof. It's just as well that the young rider can hardly sit still. Also really enjoys smelling good, so frequent baths and scents are needed.

DRAGON
Name: Talmaith
Origin of Name: Talmaith originates from Talmai, from which Bartholomew ultimately stems. This name was inspired by Bartholomew Roberts, a pirate captain of considerable renown. Roberts was a Welsh man whose ship was captured by Captain Howell Davis. He quickly became an intimate of Davis, who was also a Welsh man, not only for his origin but also because he was a keen navigator. When Davis perished in a bold attempt to capture the Governor of Príncipe, Roberts was voted in by the crew as his replacement.

Captain Roberts was legendary among the pirates of his time, known for his daring personality as well as his exceptional seamanship. Unlike many pirates, Roberts preferred tea above alcoholic beverages and was noted for his preference. Further, he is said to have abhorred drunkenness, which is only ironic as his death was very likely caused by his crew's drunken state. He also had the custom of donning his best clothes when going into battle, and cut quite a figure during engagements - indeed, when he perished he was dressed to the nines.

Captain Roberts was the inspiration for a number of fictional pirates, including the Dread Pirate Roberts from the Princess Bride, as well as playing the part of villain in the Assassin's Creed: Black Flag game. As one of the most celebrated pirates of his time, it is said that his contemporaries and those who opposed him viewed his death to be the end of the Golden Age of piracy. For indeed, who could outmatch Captain Bartholomew Roberts? He holds the distinction for being featured in Treasure Island, one of four pirate captains to share the honor.

Color: Blue

Inspiration: Bohea, or more properly, Wuyi tea. The word bohea was used by the East India Trading Company to refer to all types of black tea, although the bohea tea from the Wuyi Mountains was a particular variety of black tea characterized by a bold, rich flavor. The region is also known for Lapsang Souchong and Da Hong Pao teas, the former also being traded by the East India Company. It was bohea that was dumped into the Atlantic Ocean by American Colonists, as well as bohea that was enjoyed by the pirate Bartholomew Roberts.

Personality: Smart as a whip, Talmaith came out of the egg with a self-possession rare among those so recently hatched. He knew precisely what and who he wanted, and had little compunction over taking what was his. He still doesn't hold back when he's got something in his sights, relentless until the end. A bold creature, his daring do and bravado are only balanced by his ability to think ahead. He'll turn on a dime, if he has to, changing his tactics as swiftly as the wind itself. If possible, he would prefer to be several winglengths ahead of the problem before it presents itself, but realistically he knows that's impossible. Most plans, as they say, do not survive the heat of battle. So he's found it to be true in the case of their ancient foe.

Although he's got many stellar qualities, Talmaith is also a colossal pain in the a**! With a tendency to be arrogant combined with a certain expectation of adoration, the Blue dragon can be infernally irritating. His every word, surely, is a shining example to dragonkind. Granted, he doesn't tend to outright say as much, but it's not difficult to read between the lines. He can be confounding in an argument, for he'll tend to turn another's words against them. Rather than seeming to be the aggressor, he'll try to find a way to make the other appear to be a fool... all on their own.

In other words, he's a brat! He combines wit with looks... although he's a bit lacking in charm. What he lacks in that department, he more than makes up for with a clever tongue, although some might say that that that is by no means a virtue. Some might even be right. Constantly looking for opportunities to turn losses into gains, Talmaith has the potential to be a more than passable leader... if he could only learn to hold his tongue! A more assiduous use of his intellect would lead him down paths that would benefit not only himself and his rider, but also his wingmates as well. If only one could convince him that wasting time on such individuals was worthwhile.

Size: 27'
Physical Attributes: More long than he is large, Talmaith presents the picture of a handsome blue dragon. Now, if only he had the manners to go with it! He has a broad wingspan for his size, as well as a long, sturdy tail, which renders his ability to swiftly correct course rather notable indeed.

Additional Notes: Almost certainly interested in other male dragons, Talmaith might make note of the occasional lady. His flame length is medium, neither especially long nor particularly short. He also enjoys thoroughly being spoiled beyond belief, and will expect that of his rider where possible.

Why Me: Talmaith saw in Z'ri the perfect solution to his interpersonal problems. Where Talmaith tends to be biting and full of snappy rejoinders, Z'ri is charming enough to smooth ruffled feathers. Also, Talmaith has no intention of remaining in his lowly position, and needed a rider who would play the part of figurehead, at least. Z'ri suits that need admirably, for he certainly looks and acts with confidence. What Talmaith gives him back is a partner in crime who has no judgment for his rider, understanding his need for creature comforts. And, most important of all, Talmaith can love Z'ri without reservation, seeing the good man beneath his facade, and seeking to be worthy of him.

What were they like in weyrling training? Bright Faranth, they were trouble! Talmaith could never get enough answers, and couldn't keep his snout out of trouble... and as far as Z'ri goes, well. The young man is trouble itself. As time wore on, the pair grew to be a bit restless, although that was solved quite handily when fighting Thread became a part of their rota.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Z'ri would certainly have tried to make friends, although his friendship is a bit shallow at first. Talmaith didn't care at all for impressing anyone, as he is impressed enough with himself... but might grudgingly allow some of his clutchmates close, if they dared.

How did they feel about weyrling training and Liat or V'mel's strict training? Frankly, rather confined. However, it wasn't so much that they didn't respect what Liat was doing so much as they simply weren't seeing enough action at first. Also, military discipline is not exactly Z'ri's forte, although he certainly tried.

How did they do during Threadfall? They definitely both have some scars from Threadfall, but have not yet been maimed by it.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? To be perfectly honest, Z'ri has been looking for a way to finally prove himself his whole life, and with the return of Threadfall they both have a Purpose (caps intended.) There's nothing more exhilarating than facing down and beating back Thread. The human (and dragon) costs of Threadfall haven't fully sunk in just yet, although that's probably not far off.

Anything else? Please find a way to tie this pair of rapscallions down. XD
