Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen of the NSTG!
Today is Talk Like a Pirate Day. Arrrr!
What is Talk Like a Pirate Day? Avast me hearties! It’s a day for drinking rum and unfurling the Skull and Crossbones on your sailing vessel. What? No rum? No ship? Well, at least you can talk like a pirate! On Talk Like a Pirate Day which sails in every September 19, give your imagination a workout.
As a scurvy pirate captain (or the team lead in your office, whatever…) command your crew to batten down the hatches because there’s a storm a-brewin’, aaaaaargh! Or, gather everybody to sing a sea chantey but don’t be a carouser….aaaaaaaargh! (Note to the non-pirates — you have to follow every statement with an aaaaaaaargh! It’s part of the Pirates Code.)
It’s all good fun and a great way to break the monotony of work or school. Whatever the draw, we’ve fallen in love with pirates (even if real pirates weren’t so adorable). So, get your growl on and fling around some salty jibes with your modern mates and even your cat!
When is Talk Like a Pirate Day? Talk Like a Pirate Day has fallen on September 19 every year since its inception in 2002. So, rent a parrot for the day, tie a handkerchief around your head and clip on an ear ring. Aaargh!
Talk Like a Pirate Day Activities Talk like a pirate, of course Mundane activities become high-stakes gallivanting when you talk like a pirate. At the grocery store? Those potatoes are now booty you have plundered from the aisle. Stuck in traffic? Call out your favorite pirate insults. Need to vacuum? Pretend you're about to swab the deck. And once your to-do list is done, you can hold a contest with your friends to see who can come up with the most pirate-y phrase.
Read up on your pirate lore So many pirates — so little time. "Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson and "Robinson Crusoe" by Daniel Defoe are two blood-curdling tales with pirates wreaking havoc on Caribbean islands and in small, English villages. Another fun thing to do on Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Drink up, me hearties Let's face it — pirates are renowned for their drinking. Whether pints of ale, jugs of grog or flasks of rum, pirates always seem to have a stiff swig on hand. Whatever your favorite cocktails, mix them up with the spirit of the high seas (and maybe add a splash of orange juice to ward off scurvy). But unlike the besotted pirates of bygone days, be sure to drink (and drive) responsibly!
Why We Love Talk Like a Pirate Day
It's totally fun For some reason, talking like a pirate is super fun. Something about how silly and unnecessary it is just makes it hilarious, and it's even more fun when you can get your friends to play along with you. You'll all get to goof around with your day-to-day speech, injecting a little pirate lingo into your life.
It's a chance to break your routine It's nice to have an excuse to talk in a different way now and again. It's fun to play with accents and outdated phrases, but nobody wants to be the weird cuckoo at the bus stop who can't stop shouting, "Avast!" On Talk Like a Pirate Day, you have a legitimate reason to resurrect the briny, old-school nautical lingo of pirates.
Pirate movies ahoy! Who doesn't love a good pirate movie now and again? From "Hook" to "Pirates of the Caribbean" and all the sequels, even the opening theme music is enough to stir up excitement! Talk Like a Pirate Day reminds us to gear up and swashbuckle at least once a year.

Quotes of the Day:
The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem. Do you understand? - Captain Jack Sparrow
Will Turner: This is either madness, or brilliance. Jack Sparrow: It’s remarkable how often those two traits coincide.
