I love how people now use the excuse of not wanting to smoke because they don't want to conform like some sheep. I think that's what makes you a tool; not wanting to do something because you think it's the thing to do amongst your peers.

I partake in recreational activities because I love to experiment with new things, and I love the variation in perception my mind plays on the simple things around me. Not because it's the "in" thing. It's not even such.

Wahh, I put my fist in my mouth because my friends told me to, just like they told me to do pot. I guess you should believe the commercial because there's a boy and you can relate to him.

Wow, John Ritter was really fat before he died.

I believe that as long as they do the right thing of refusing to smoke (in which because I think smoking is a filthy habit that should be condemned because it kills more people via secondhand smoke than the smokers themselves), it shouldn't matter whatever excuse they use. Is it following your peers really that 'hot' as well? Not everything that your peers do may be the right thing, and if you dare to be different, that's no one else's business.

You don't want to smoke because you don't want to be a sheep and inhale nicotine and tar? By all means, you're doing the correct thing. If you friends keep telling you that it's cool to do so, I say ditch them. They're not worth zilch.

Then again, you may not want to take advice from a person who prefers principles over friends.

Well, that just diminished my point in saying that I do it because I personally choose to, not directed by the view of others.

And I really don't believe in the fatality of secondhand smoke.

Ok, this thread looks like it requires intelligent discussion.

There is a very damn fine reason why I don't do drugs. Too many members of my family and friends of my father have died because of overdosing, one way or another, and I've vowed at their graves I'd never do the same as them.

If people take responsibility, however, mishaps can be avoided.

I think by legalizing certain drugs, we may see a decline in drug-related crimes and deaths. I was talking to the mother of a friend of mine, and she says that the reason why many of these different and often dangerous drugs have been brought about is because other drugs have been made unavailable. When people don't have access to things like marijuana, they either make their own, steal off with pharmaceuticals or import crap from other countries. If marijuana becomes legal, readily available to people, and sold at a reasonable price, then we may see some changes.

However there is the issue that after a while, these drugs have no effect on people. They lose the buzz and such. That's another factor we have to take into consideration. It's why they turn to drugs that are more dangerous. I don't have a solution to this problem, I'm just bringing it up for you all to mull over.

That's basically all I have to say regarding the issue.

I don't use drugs because my mind is capable the way it is.

I consider most drug-users to be weak along with alcoholics and cutters.

That's just how I thought you'd be.

I know that when you say "conform" you mean to do as others do. Not because you think or feel that way, but for mere exception. However, in this day and age choosing to not damage your body may be mistaken as a statement of conformity rather than the pure intention of merely respecting your body. Most people nowadays feel this way due to the growing knowledge we have of narcotics and alcohol abuse. So, no I don't believe there is any conformity in these decisions. It's just an informed decision, that's all.

I have asthma. Smoking, even second hand, is harmful to me. I believe doing drugs ‘for fun’ is dangerous and can quickly get out of hand. People can even get addicted to prescription drugs, after all.

It just seems today people are too willing to turn to drugs, prescription, legal or otherwise, in order to feel ‘good’.

I don't do drugs because I'm a bit on the normal side...I'm too much of a "square" to be a loser like that...and plus, what's so good about getting messed up anyway...I always wondered that

I just don't see a point in doing them. I dont see why I would bother doing them if I can do other things to occupy myself with.

But then again, I have yet to do them, so I don't know what I'm missing. Sometimes things are better left unknownst to me.
