Ah, yes the spice of life. Well said. -applauds-
If it's perfect, it's awkard.
But if it's contriversally opposite, then...I suppose sparks will fly.

I'm still experimenting with this whole opposite thing, but from what I know its good to know someone you have lots of stuff in common with but its good if theres some differences to keep that little relationship going. Look at it like colors, blue looks good with blue, and blue looks good with yellow.

People can admire the characteristics in another person that they don't have, and in turn love each other for them. Besides that, it makes them want to understand why the other one views things certain ways, attracting them to the other.

It's the common saying - opposites attract, but is it true? Can a fish swim on land or a bird fly in water? Maybe that was a bit too much opposite, but maybe there's my point. If there's nothing in common, then there is no attraction. You do need some differences, after all it isn't any fun if you both are practically the same person. Personally, would you want to date yourself? Find people who have common interests, and yet, have differences that you can get along with. That doesn't mean if you're a very clean person you should find someone who lives in filth. Or if you're a pure person you should find a chain-smoker or alcoholic. Find someone who compliments you. If you are a an atheletic person, find someone who is athletic, if you are laid back, find someone who is laid back. After all, if you're too opposite with each other, you'll end up fighting, and that spark with quickly vanish.

Meh... relationships are coocky. I would suggest just experimenting with the whole 'opposite' thing and just learn for yourself. I really do not know. Out of the two girlfriends that I had, they were pretty much my clones, so I have no idea.

I find that opposites often do attract - as friends or otherwise. And I agree that at least one or two commonalities are necessary to keep the relationship together in the long run - otherwise the two would be living parallel lives and eventually find no purpose in their coming together.
The real issue imo, though, is how the people choose to interact with each other. If two people have the ability to talk respectfully, seek acceptable compromises, hear the other's point of view and assume both have the best of intentions, then I believe they are likely to last regardless of how opposite or same they are. Of course, I suppose that assumes both people share of the same value in valuing the other person.
