Once a scout in prime condition Dendro felt most at home while attending to his duties for the herd, looking for safe places to stay and dangers to avoid and he was fully devoted to this job. However after losing his hearing during a run in with a two-legger hunting party, and thus losing his position as scout, Dendro was left a changed stallion. Now he can be grumpy at times, especially when he has to ask others to repeat something because they spoke to him on his deaf side. While still devoted to the herd Dendro finds it hard to keep up with things due to his lack of hearing and can be a bit stand offish, living more at the edge of his world than fully within it.

As a scout in a relatively large herd Dendro had found his place in life. He had a duty and most importantly he was good at it. His love of his job and devotion to keeping the herd safe kept his going day and night. Often times he would hate going to sleep because it may mean he would miss something, even though there were other scouts out watching the borders at that time. Though he spent the majority of his time tending to his duties Dendro also enjoyed spending time with those in the herd. He loved to share stories about what he had seen during his many patrols and also would lend a hand training new scouts. This life was perfect for him and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Yet fate is such a funny thing and soon Dendro would find himself thrust into a new life. One day, in the early morning hours Dendro was on his way back to the herd from the patrol route. It was at the time that he spotted a group of two-leggers approaching. The spears they carried were meant to hunt his kind. Instantly he jumped into action, using his breeds quick movements to get to the herd in time to alert them. Once they had been warned Dendro headed back towards the two-leggers. It was his duty and responsibility to try to keep these hunters at bay while the herd scrambled to get away. Dendro and several other scouts bravely fought against the much larger two-leggers but it quickly became a losing battle. The scout numbers began to dwindle against the two-legged onslaught and they were forced to retreat.

It was during this run for safety that one of the two-leggers managed to land a blow with his spear hard on Dendro’s head. Luck was on his side for the spear head hit him on the flat side. Though his head swam with pain Dendro managed to escape and catch up with the herd as they fled for safety. When the chaos died down and the herd settled in to check on those who may be missing and for any injuries Dendro noticed that his hearing was off. The side of his head where he had been hit had been badly injured and his heading in that ear was gone. A Putti healer by the name of Okelani was charged with patching up Dendro. While she was able to quickly tend to his other wounds there was little she could do about his hearing. Weeks went by and in that time the herd traveled to new lands, their home had become too dangerous to live in, so they had little choice but to move into unexplored area. Throughout that time Okelani treated Dendro with a number of herbs convinced that they may help restore his hearing. Dendro not longer was the stallion from before. His rank of scout had been stripped from him because of his injuries and now he had a healer shadowing him constantly.

Once in the new lands Dendro spent more and more time living at the edge of the herd. He no longer cared about things he used to. He just wanted to be left alone. Eventually he reached the breaking point and after rudely telling Okelani where she could put her herbs he left the herd to strike out on his own. It took some time but eventually Dendro found a small clearing to call home. It was here he met a Cerynei stallion named Prism. The two talked for a while and then Prism left. Only, a few days later he came back. Dendro was somewhat amused by the stallions lazy ways and they became good friends. With the onset of winter Dendro recruited Prism to stay and help him protect the small clearing from would be attackers and thieves.
