Altitude Change! Hour 2, Round 1 Beings!

High Altitude Wing: Fire Storm
Mid Altitude Wing: Flame's Fury
Low Altitude Wing: Star Flame

Hour: 1100

Location: West of SunDust Hold, and approaching the more fertile land north-northeast of Western Hold. There are many smaller holds that use this land to raise herdbeasts, draybeasts, and lots of good farm land. There are also many small desert caravans from SunDust that stop here and trade. Any Thread that slips through might well cripple the land if it burrows, and has the potential to kill innocents below--especially as some of those caravans and smaller holds weren't built with Threadfall in mind.

Even Turns later, not all minor Holds have or had the means to rebuild with stone.

Conditions: Rukbat is shining bright and that means conditions are starting to get worse as warm moist air is pulled north from the approaching low. Convection is possible, though it's likely they'll move on well before any storms build up. Unfortunately, that means clouds might form rapidly and upset riders visibility. Be alert! Winds are still heavy and rough!

- - - -

On top of keeping tabs on his Wing, R'mor was still being fed periodic updates from Junenth. Things were just not going well. They'd already lost a bronzerider--an ex-Wingleader at that!--and they still had hours left to fight. Dragons were literally falling from the sky. On the one hand, he couldn't blame his dragonriders--they were fighting as damn well they could in miserable conditions. On the other hand, if he could find something they were lacking, something they were doing wrong, he could fix it! But there was nothing he could do to bring back the dead and the wounded; nothing he could say that would make any of this right.

Harper's glorified Threadfall. Stories of riders valiantly sacrificing their lives for the innocent of Pern; riders who met the enemy bravely, boldly, and heroes who made it out of harms way when things got rough... But it was all lies. There were men, women, half-grown youth putting their lives on the line. They were hurting, they were dying, and he couldn't stop it. No amount of leadership could stop the wind from blowing, or Thread from falling... All they could do was hope for the best, and prepare for the worst.

And today, it seemed like all of them were completely unprepared.

Junenth rumbled warning. The hour draws near, Mine. R'mor felt Junenth twist and hiss as Thread fell latched onto his wingsail. The pain reminded R'mor that he could not be consumed by the updates; he could think about them later. Junenth and he weren't out of the fray yet, after all. The bronze took a jump Between and appeared higher up, and slightly ahead. Though his wingsail sported new holes and frayed edges, they were still doing relatively well.

Relay this to the Wings... All of them. He instructed.

Junenth did has he was bad.
Riders of Western Weyr! Keep fighting, though the winds are as much our enemy as the silver Threads. Though it is a heavy burden, focus on the moment, on the now; though we grieve, though we have suffered terrible loss, the fight is only the beginning! The Enemy is upon us and we will not let those who have fallen die in vain! We will strike Thread down more fiercely; we will burn it to ash and light the skies up with our fire! We will not back down, we will not give up, we will not surrender this day to the wicked Threads that threaten our loved ones and Pern! Keep fighting, though it is hard. We will overcome this battle! We WILL persevere!

And with that, the Weyrleader gave the signal for wings to change their altitudes, and carry on the fight.

FLAME'S FURY WING
=Flying FIRST Wave=
D'mar of Blue Strigonth
Round 1 - Day 3 - Mid Altitude
14 – X – X – X – X
Roll: 14 - You notice one of your wingriders is in need! Three clumps of thread are heading straight for them, while they are flaming down another impressive sheet. Ah, but your dragon is clever, and quick, and manages to flame all three down with short spits of fire. If a green, or blue rider, the thread turns to harmless ash, and both of you can continue on your way. [+3 Target Accuracy]
HP: 16/26

D’mar and Strigonth returned from their refuling run (as well as from the blue’s deft handling of his white friend) in ime to join the wing as it descended to middle tier. Thread was still plentiful, and even as they left the cold of between the spied a dangerous patch of threads. With a roar and a rush of flame they scorched it, then elegantly whirled to find their position.

Refreshed and rejuvenated, Venn and Nzambith returned to the fray and almost right into the oncoming flame of a wingmate. Venn and Nzambith's thoughts were one, and the green quickly furled her wings and dropped like a stone out of the way of the fire. She quickly caught a draft and shot forward once she opened her wings again, returning to her place in the formation. Phew...that had been close!

As they settled down in the altitudes, K'mar noticed a lot of other wingmates blinking back to the weyr to heal up. He consulted with Vith quietly for a moment and the brown agreed he could hold on a little longer so the wing wasn't like cheese with holes. As they spoke the wind blew a bit harder, but Vith maintained his course... just in time to get caught with some Thread on his wings. A quick trip Between saw them gone, but it still hurt.

A much needed rest came as the upper altitude did its job, flaming the Thread before it could fall down to their level. K'mar was glad for the little rest, hoping Vith could catch his breath and get ready to kick butt again. He knew returning to the Weyr to heal up would happen sooner or later, but he wanted to make a statement before they returned. Hopefully it would lift Vith's spirits a bit.

The break seemed to be exactly what Vith needed. He lifted his head and let out a little trumpet, encouraging those around him to continue to fight.

The wind was their worst enemy today, it seemed. It picked up again and blew hard and strong, although this time Vith's grimace came from within. He pulled a muscle - just a bit - and shifted his flight pattern to favor that wing. K'mar bit his tongue to keep them there a bit longer. He wanted a few more dragons to return to the fight before they returned to the ground to heal.

Thread started to make its way down to their level and Vith spotted one of their wingmates in trouble. K'mar saw it too, and together they moved Between to close the distance to try to save them. They appeared just where they meant to and flamed the Thread successfully, saving their wingmate. K'mar let out a whoop of delight as Vith turned them back to their spot in the formation, delight surging through him as well.

A sudden shock of pain bit into Strigonth’s wing, and he ducked between to ease the sting. Reappearing found him with a few tattered holes in the membrane’s edge, but compared to the pain he ha felt before, this was nothing!

The thread’s bite had one advantage though—it made them wary. Strigonth was slender and nimble, and ge swerved gracefully to dodge the falling strands. He woyld not be caught off guard again with any luck!

A sudden gale caught and tossed them, but the blue strained to regain his spot. The thread was still falling, and he had to struggle to dodge it as he flew. A ripple of deep aching pin flowed up one wing and over his chest, and the bkue grunted against it. Instantly he gentled his flapping, trying to soare his aching wing.

Back in the air again, at last, Haezeth quickly found his way into formation in the mid altitude as he'd been trained and surged forth to burn up two separate clumps of thread that were heading towards a wingmate. While he couldn't get all of the clumps headed that way, he got a couple and stretched his wings back into what he felt comfortable with.
