Joshua shook his head, a small smile on his face. "Nope. Not in the least. Well," He amended the thought. "Not humans. Humanoids, yes." He stressed the fact that those he hung around with were rarely human. Actually, it was rare he was with anyone. He'd been on his own for quite awhile. "Katalina is about the only reason I've even talked to anyone that can talk back. Before her, I stuck to creatures that wouldn't talk back." He shrugged, showing his lack of interest in his own species.

Nezik blinked. "Really? Why don't you like other humans? Were they mean to you? Were you abandoned in the forest, like the humans in the story about the candy house and the...the witch? Did a bird lead you home? Was Sorry like your bird?"
Despite his lack of knowledge about actual human reality, it seemed that Nezik was well-grounded in human fairy tales. His eyes were so fascinated that it almost seemed a shame to let him down.

Joshua just stared at Nezik for a moment, before bursting into laughter. It wasn't just the fact that the merman tried putting Joshua's life into a fairytale. No, what really got him, was that it was becoming true. With everything he'd seen and done lately, his life might as well be called a fairy tale. Shoulders shaking, he tried to contain his laughter. 'The kid has some imagination. I have to admit that.' Joshua hated to be the one to burst Nezik's bubble. 'Well, I can soften it I suppose. I don't need to actually say that those are fairytale.' Joshua was still chuckling lightly as he started speaking again. "It's not quite like that. I just didn't agree with some humans. Rather than fight, I left." He figured he didn't need to go into deep details, glossing over why he left.

Although Joshua hadn't exactly said it, Nezik had caught on when he'd started laughing. "Oh," he said in a small voice as Joshua explained himself. "Well, what didn't you agree with them abou--?"
"Nezik," came a slightly accusing voice from the cavern as Katalina and Narcis returned. "Where did Mother go? Have you been asking Joshua questions all this time? I hope you at least let him get a few in edgewise." With an apologetic grin, she turned to Joshua and said, "I'm sorry for abandoning you, Joshua. I hadn't thought that Father would want to speak with me." She gave Narcis a meaningful look and - surprisingly - he obligingly left them.
Turning back to her brother and Joshua, she said, "Well, Joshua, did Nezik here let you get a word in?"

Joshua brightened up, turning as he heard the familiar voice. He grinned at Katalina. 'I love her timing.' His past was something he still wasn't completely comfortable talking about. "It's okay. Your mother went thataway." He pointed down the other tunnel, shrugging. "A ruckus of some sort. And I did get in my own questions. Aura made sure of that. But I figured since I ask so many question, I could return the favor where I can." Joshua had a huge grin on his face. "Besides, it's fun! Trying to explain things that I think of as common knowledge."

Katalina smiled back at him distantly, seeming a little more tired and pale than she had been when she'd come here. "Oh. Probably Nastirtia. She's always kicking up a fuss about something or other, as I recall. Is she still like that, Nezik?" she asked.
The boy nodded, but seemed too awed by his sister's sudden return to say much else.
Raising a brow, Katalina grinned at Joshua. "Just like I get a kick out of explaining our common knowledge to you, I guess. Nezik, what's the matter?" she inquired, looking back at her brother. "Normally, you can't stop talking for more than three seconds. Should I get Mother for you?"

Joshua's smiled faded as he realized Katalina didn't look as great as when they arrived. He reached out slightly, and hesitated. Then, placed his hand on her shoulder. "Katalina? Are you alright?" Worry layered his voice. He could help but feel responsible, as he was the one who had asked to see things. 'Maybe I shouldn't have asked....'

Katalina tensed just the slightest bit under his hand, then forced herself to relax and gave him a little one-sided grin. "Yeah, I'm okay. Just a little tired, that's all."
Nezik also frowned, examining his sister. "He's right, Sorry. You don't look so good."
"Why, thank you, Nezik," replied Katalina dryly. "Just for once, it would have been nice for you to be noble and chivalrous and have said I never looked better. I'm fine."
"But that would be rude, 'cause you have," said Nezik innocently. Katalina batted his shoulder lightly. "Did you get all your questions asked, Joshua, or do you want to hang around a little longer?" she asked.

((Hi! You made it back finally? Anyways, Joshua & Katalina are out visiting, currently with the merfolk. Joey is back at the beach with a new character, a sea fairy called Aoife. That's pretty much it.))
Joshua lifted his hand from Katalina's should. He debated for a moment before answering her question. "I'm done I guess." He glanced around for the mermaid's parents. "Um....Will I be able to come back?" Joshua still had a few questions, but he didn't want to tax Katalina's strength anymore. He hoped that he could come back at some point and get his questions answered. Otherwise, he would just have to do without. Right now though, Katalina was more important than some questions and answers.

((OOC: *mobs* Haaaiii! Yeah, Lucky pretty well summed it up.))
Nezik nodded. "Sure," he said boyishly. "Mother and Father won't mind, and the patriarch doesn't care - as long as you don't bring other people with you."
Katalina gave her brother and Joshua both a weary smile. "All right," she said. "If you're sure, Joshua, I guess we'd better be getting back. It's going to get dark soon, and we've gone a long way."
Nezik looked up at his sister pleadingly. "You'll come home for another visit soon, right?"
"Yeah," said Katalina. "Soon."
Almost as soon as she stopped speaking, Narcis appeared at her shoulder. He laid a light hand on it, and she turned back. The two conversed in low voices - and their own tongue - for a bit before he nodded. "I'll come with you two to the cave entrance," he said, looking at Katalina and paying Joshua hardly any mind at all. "I have to be on my way home too, anyway."

Joshua smiled. "I won't bring anyone." He promised. 'They would just ruin everything I've worked for.' He gave Narcis an odd look, wondering what the conversation was about. 'I hate feeling so left out. What are they taling about that I obviously can't know about. Cause pretty much everyone else here would understand them.' Joshua nodded when Narcis announced his plans, despite the fact that he seemed to be ignoring the human. Turning, he began making his way towards the cave entrance.

Katalina fell in beside Joshua, Narcis trailing a little behind. "So what did you think?" she asked, trying to make conversation. "About the clan, I mean."
She didn't like having to leave Joshua out for long periods of time, but this wasn't the sort of thing she could talk to him about. He would probably feel guilty, because he had wanted to come. She had chosen to take him, but he wouldn't see that.
She still couldn't believe it herself. Maybe she would talk to Joshua about it. But later. Certainly not now, when he seemed so concerned already.

Joshua grinned at Katalina, still swimming for the entrance. "I think it's awesome! Just think, when I get a question someone here should be able to answer. The clan is a deep pool of knowledge just waiting to be tapped!" To him, it was even better than just a lone mermaid. 'Not that Katalina isn't great and all.' He amended his own thoughts. 'It's just that there are somethings she can't or won't answer for me.' He was like a kid in a candy store at the thought of all the knowledge he could find within the cavern. "I need to start a journal or something." Joshua's eyebrows drew together as he made small plans. "Otherwise, I won't remember all the questions I come up with later. Waterproof-ness will be requires." Soon, he had trailed off into mumblings, talking and planning to himself.

((OOC: As a side note, has anyone seen Joey or Aoife lately?))
Katalina smiled her odd little one-sided grin. "What about answers?" she asked. "Won't you want to have a notebook for answers?"
She was glad he'd at least had fun meeting the few clan members who would have spoken on first acquaintance, although it sounded like he hadn't gotten in all the questions he'd wanted to. Maybe she should have let him have a little more time - but no, he'd said he was done. Her thoughts flicked back to her younger brother, and she smiled again.
"So tell me, how much time did you spend answering Nezik's questions instead of asking your own? He's very curious about people," she said idly. "You sort of remind me of him."
Was that why she was so comfortable with Joshua? He reminded her of her brother? No, probably not, she thought. She didn't treat Joshua as she did her brother.
