Everything had been going fine for The Devil when she hatched shell. In fact, the brown stopped, turned his red eyes on his sister, and bugled defiantly at her. His wings flared, and he tried to look bigger than he already was. He was not afraid of her, and every Candidate on the stands knew it. Instead, he turned his head, and looked at the first Candidate he saw.

This was her fault. Her doing.

She just had to steal his show, and now she was going to pay.

I have waited for this too long now. Come to me, all of you. Come and let me see you better, so I might best get to know you. Do you not wish to get to know me? Do you not wish to be close to me? Do none of you wish to play? The voice reached out to all Candidates, and behind it was a strong sense of wistfulness, desire, and maybe, just maybe, the touch of a command. His anger was clear, but it was not directed at them.

This is what bad eggs could do. Hmph.

A voice called out to the candidates and it made a chill run up Rham's spine. He turned to look at the new hatchling. The anger made his heart skip a beat, but Rham listened to the command. He stepped forward toward the brown and just stood there with his hands at his sides.

This was scary.

The fear crept back in when the brown called for them all, beckoning them to him. Instinctively, Ichta reached out for any of those with her group, as though holding onto one of them may keep her from actually going to the dark colored dragon. It had held her even if she didn't want to be there. Goran would have known - it was only because Uridith was there that Ichta had separated from the red egg even before hatching.

"Please...find yours..." her voice shook a little bit as she whispered.

Luiciand's tease towards him made Caderyn roll his eyes, lightly pushing the boy, not hard, just in a friendly way. "I'm not going to run towards a dragonet that hasn't Impressed to me." He knew the rules and he really didn't want to get mauled by the dragonet, even if it wasn't angry at him.

Seeing the Gold dragon appear, it wasn't a shock, but the anger he felt radiating from the brown made Caderyn raise an eyebrow some. Was he so angry that she had appeared to ruin his fun? He heard it's voice in his head and it was so vary familiar to him as well. He didn't step towards the dragonet, but he did respond in his mind to it. "I'm sure many wish to get to know you, especially your bonded, young one."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dorianus could feel Ichta tense and he saw her arm grab on to Goran. He seemed to be a support to her. The Brown was calling out to any of them and Dorianus let his eyes move to his roommate, making sure Caderyn didn't' do anything stupid. It seemed the boy was smart and stayed in one spot. That brown seemed to want to know everyone, or was it more it wanted to show it's power, to dominate everyone here? He didn't know, but he stayed in place, placing a reassuring hand upon Ichta's shoulder, though his eyes never moved from the brown.

There comes the gold, ready as ever to protect those around her. At least that was what Luiciand thought that they gold planned to do. He just hoped no one was killed in the crossfire. Well, not luck to it, he would simply stay out of the way. Unless of course he impressed and the dragon needed him.

Luiciand did mentally roll his eyes at the brown. Really, couldn't the brown come up with a new thing to do? Was it so obsessed with being loved that it simply could think of nothing beyond "be with me?" He knew these were not charitable thoughts to have, and tried to suppress them, lest he upset the dragon somehow. He stood stock still and tried not to show any of his exasperation.

Now a rider was there - som, eone with Authority, wiser than she, and... Well, the Authority was the key.

Amila didn't argue the insistance to go when her 'better' as her mind reminded told her. The girl told the Star to be brave, and Amila knew it could -- she, and the hqatydchling would have a good Rider, one who would comfort her, and love her, and...

No, Amila was physically in pain, her shoulser hurt, and honestly she wanted to do as she'd done in the Hold groqing up-- rub it in sand, deep or not, and keep going. That was what she learned to do -- taught to do -- but they seemed to decide here it was healers. That was fine -- there were plenty of Candidates there and Amila didn't need to worry so over the eggs and dragonets -- it sounded like a couple even impressed, and so Amila looked to the ground, tone submissive, soft, and obediant.

"I'm fine, sir." She almost mumbled the words, swallowing. "Runnerbeasts kick and other creatures claw or biye. 'Tis just a baby-inflicted wound. I'll mend." She said.

Animal inflicted wounds hurt, but failing to follow simple shards-damned sense.... She wasn't going to voice how upset with herself she was, or how she fully thought that the others, mostly the ones in charge, were now clearly aware she was a worthless good for nothing who was only born because a gold flight had happened past her hold and--

She chased that dark thought away, simply allowing herself to be handled as others saw fit. No sense in fighting.

---

So far, one mauling. Well, H'lare knew those happened, and he felt for the Candidate, he did, but he and Toth were far more intere3sted in the Impressions. Two so far, no less -- and so many lovely beautifuil ones to boot! It was SPLENDID and H'larw beamed, Toth rumbling amusement, watching the Devil wiuth a glint in his eye. before bugelling encouragingly at the scamp, the brown entirely amused by the Devil's antics. Such a good child HIS MOTHER HAD SUCH GOOD BABIES and another bugle congratulatyed Uridith on the clutch thus far, H'lare laughing at his friend.

Mine, you are silly. H'lare noted. Toth looked entirely put out, but his eyes rtemained a pleased green.

Faren heard the voice and turned towards the brown dragon, staring blankly as her mind frazzled itself under the command. Normally one for tunnel vision problems, his commands offered her a bit more hyper-focus than usual. She hadn't heard any sort of command when she'd spoken to him under Uridith's watchful gaze at the touching, and she couldn't remember any such sort of commands from any other dragon.

Admittedly, she couldn't remember much as it was. most of her brain wasn't working on its own right this moment. She finally blinked away the blank stare and smiled up at the unruly brown. "Yeah... Let's play. Sounds like fun!"

The gold got her undivided attention the moment that shell cracked. Her eyes lit up in wonder as her heart skipped a beat, despite the anger she could see in those beautiful eyes. Shards, it was like she was suddenly simply not breathing. She idly noted that Cahlusi was trying to keep her from a mauling, but honestly, her memory was of a shared reality with that gold, and for just a moment, she was lost...until the Devil spoke. Her eyes didn't QUITE tear away from the eggs, but just enough to glance at him. Come to him? No....Yes...Maybe....The feelings were all too familiar to her, reminding her of the night that the Flight had happened, leaving her feeling almost weak at her knees. How did one handle all of this at once?

E'ion

She said fine, but the wound looked nasty. Gently, the assistant Candidatemaster ushered her to the side, his arms strong and stead, his Green chiding him for worrying so much over this girl. Ignoring Araeth's grumpy words, he let himself kneel beside her, smiling, "Well, fine or not, you're still injured. The healers will tend you, and the hatchlings will sort themselves out. Don't you fret." He tried hard to be gentle with the Candidates, especially ones like Amila who were so quiet as it was.

Vitre

Aaand once again Vitre was on his feet (much to his mother's endless sighs) and gawking. The gold! The little gold had cracked her shell! It was amazing to see them side by side, baby and mother, looking so alike but so different. Could she ever grow to be as big as the queen who'd laid the eggs? He couldn't believe it, really. This far away he couldn't make out the color of the hatchlings' eyes, and at this distance the Devil's voice couldn't reach. He was utterly oblivious to the drama below, and for all he knew the brown was just telling the gold that he wanted this one or that one. That seemed fine to the young boy—browns liked boys anyway, and golds only liked girls. There wasn't any worry about sharing, since they wouldn't overlap, right?

"Nebbi look! There's the gold for you, right?" He hoped she saw, knew she saw. Not every clutch even had a gold, and they got to see one on their first visit! Oh his smithy friends would be sooo jealous once he told them all about how glittery they'd all been. Wet from egg goo mostly, but that detail didn't need sharing. It wasn't fitting with the majestic image he was already spinning to spill to them later. He leaned even closer somehow (and prompting another sharp tug from his mother's hand on the back of his shirt) when he saw someone step towards the brown. An impression? That was fast! But no one else seemed to be clapping yet, so he managed to catch himself just in time. It had been an impression, right? He squinted down at the sands, trying to discern what he was looking at. Well. Other than a few really neat dragon babies, he just wasn't sure.

Rennati smiled and nodded. The Fool had been quite interesting but she herself had a different favorite based on the feelings she had gotten din the egg. Pointing quickly at the emperor. “The feelings the emperor gave me made me just want to stay there.” When Faren pulled her out of the way of the devil she gave a little gasp but followed it with a smile. They would have to watch that one. When she saw the cracks in the empress she smiled. Now you can watch over your siblings better, she thought.

Nadry was learning that expectations were nothing on the Sands - the lessons were all well and good, being told to prepare for this or not do that, but the reality was proving to be more complicated and messy than she had ever imagined. Even then, she was not prepared to hear the Devil's voice in her head. Was that...normal? She had thought that, since most dragons only spoke to Theirs, hatchlings would be even less likely to speak to others, let alone everyone.

The whisper in her head, the feelings that came with it...if Goran hadn't told her his impression of the red egg's dragonet, she would have been caught completely off-guard. But that hint of compulsion was there, and terrifying to her. Wanting and not wanting to go, utterly afraid to, she reached for Ichta's hand even as the other girl sought to ground herself and stay as well. With some hesitation, she held out her other hand as well, in case one of the boys might seek the same.

Together, they would be alright. They had to be.

That wasn't his to play with! The Empress delicately shifted herself free of her egg, standing up at last on the Sands. He knew that wasn't his. But what were they doing? They weren't even coming to him! What if one of them was his? The dragonet's eyes whirled between worried yellow and bright reddish orange. For, indeed, she did not know to whom the Devil himself belonged, and who might belong to him. She did know who didn't, and--

Wait.

WHAT? Wake up right now! the dragonet cried to her as yet unhatched sibling, nudging at the Emperor's shell. He was going after hers! What was he doing, he knew that one of those Candidates belonged with her, and he was stealing them anyway! Her eyes whirled bright red, and then almost white. As more and more of the Candidates responded to her brother, she gave a squeak of indignant protest.

Shards, and now the little queen was breaking free of her egg, giving them a glimpse of an angry eye and a brilliant hide. The brown seemed to take offense at this, mantling his wings even as he stared back at the Empress. Before Goran would ready himself, the dragon swung his head back to them, and Goran heard that same voice in his head from before. The dragon almost sounded lonely, as though he truly meant what he said... but Goran felt that same surge of power, that command that made him bristle all up and down.

He was no longer someone else's tool.

Ichta's whispered plea earned a glance, and seeing Dorianus' hand on her shoulder earned a curt, approving nod. Good. He realized Nadry had reached out to hold the girl's hand.... and he spooked slightly when he felt Ichta timidly reach out to grasp his shoulder. He stared at her hand like it was a foreign thing for a moment before he accepted its presence, allowing it to stay. His attention turned back as the Queen removed herself from her shell.... and nudged a large, striped shell. His breath caught, and without thinking, he reached back to take Nadry's hand to give it an uneasy squeeze.

It was the squeak that got her eyes flicking back to the golden child by the Emperor. Oh, poor thing. Those white eyes...Her heart went out to the Empress. It would be ok, of this she was sure. It had to all be okay eventually. The little Gold just wanted the best for her siblings, and while what the brown was doing wasn't nice, at least the little one should get her due attentions.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Isilje

The brown's voice had made her shiver, feeling almost ill at the sudden wave of feelings. She didn't like these feelings at ALL. Turning to walk further away, the girl was pressing closer to the edge of the girls, before a squeak got her attention. Oh, right! The Gold was now out. Pretty thing she was, and oh...not the white. The color of the little one's eyes had her wondering if she could protect a dragonet. No, she shouldn't move, but at the same time....

The Emperor did not hesitate.

With a mighty bellow, the egg practically exploded. The hissing, snarling, red-eyed bronze didn't care if the scatter of shell hit Candidates, or his golden sister for that matter. The anger that all the Candidates had felt at the touching repeated, but this time even more forcefully.

Screeching in rage, the bronze lunged forward right for The Devil.

Any Candidates in his way were bitten and tossed aside; he used his wings, his claws, his fangs to pull, shake, and whip the Candidates out of the way. Not because he didn't care, but because he had only one target in mind, and that was the Devil.

Both Rham and Farensil were violently pushed aside (if they hadn't already scrambled) as the large and stocky bronze leapt at his brown brother.

STAND DOWN AND SUBMIT! His voice could be heard by all.

The Devil shrieked in anger, hissing, snarling and rearing up so he might fight his brutish sibling. This wasn't fair! He wasn't doing anything wrong! Why did everyone hate him so? Why was he just the bad egg!!?!
The two males bit, clawed, and tussled; they rolled around, the brown dragon defiant and unafraid, and the bronze aggressive and unyielding. He would force the brown submit to his control, one way or another.
