Their wing had departed for the higher elevations by the time they returned to the fight, and it was sobering to realize that there was a very good chance that some of them would fall. That they would never see some of them again. Still, there was nothing to do but fight, and the nimble white twirled past the larger golds and other dragons at that elevation, sniping stray strands where they could find them.

Faster, faster! There was thread getting through, and they were NOT going to let it fall! Like lightning before the storm they blazed about, picking off any strands still in their range. It was at moments like this that Zunulth wished Vee was here with him... together they would have been unstoppable.
FIRE STORM WING =Flying FIRST Wave= Amna of White Zunulth Round 1 - Day 3 - Queen's Wing 9 – 100 – 100 – 30 – X X – X – X – X – X

As they shot about from place to place, a shimmering strand caught their eye. There was no time to get there in time, but the white cried out, Danger, Eirinth! It's falling at an angle, go lower...! From where they flew they could already see the strands wrapping around the gold if she did not adjust course, and both rider and dragon watched for the fearful instant before contact to see if their warning had been swift enough.
FIRE STORM WING =Flying FIRST Wave= Amna of White Zunulth Round 1 - Day 3 - Queen's Wing 9 – 100 – 100 – 30 – 94 X – X – X – X – X
Roll: 94 - 93-97. Your dragon is starting to feel tired. This particular fight is wearing them down. A strong gust of winds tries to throw them out of their position. Roll a D4 to see what happens!
3. Failure! Your dragon is blown out of formation. They struggle and flap against the wind, and only are able to recover when the wind dies down, feeling more exhausted than before. A sudden gust tossed the tiny white through the air, and he was forced to strain and fight against it to return to position. One of his wings strained in the process, but they managed to make it back to where they were meant to be. The weather seemed to be getting rougher... and they were glad they would be back at the Weyr by the time it got much worse. Hopefully...

Rhea squinted at the dribbles of Thread and conferred with Eirinth. The gold had grown a little restless, but only when they had agreed did she put on a sudden burst of speed, tucking her wings at the right moment to avoid damage. The woman turned her machine and destroyed some in their wake for good measure.

Status report?
Eirinth reaches out and began several different conversations. Rhea turned grim.
Quote:
60-69. A whole lot of nothin'. The Queen's Wing can sure be quiet sometimes. You should be getting XP points for patience the way this is going. Part of you wonders how your fellow wingmates are doing... maybe your dragon can get you a status report.

This was the wrong decision. Eirinth, anxious and soft and restless, grew only emboldened from the status report to do something.

Any successful flaming down of Thread yields double XP but also causes can extra Moderate Damage -3 HP. In your hurry to flame Thread you make rookie errors, such as flying into the ash cloud, flying into your fellow wingmates space and getting burned, over-reaching and pulling a muscle, not sitting right in your straps and getting whipped around, etc.
[Once Antsy is taken, the counter for this effect is reset and you must roll this 3 more times, etc.]

Eirinth, Rhea scolded as the gold pulled a similar move as before. This time, however, they hadn’t conferred beforehand, and Rhea felt the sting of Thread on her beloved’s wing. She hadn’t tucked it in enough in her haste to catch the menace. It disintegrated in seconds with a flash of fire, but the woman impressed her will upon the other. That’s enough.
The gold made a wounded noise, her mind preoccupied by the sight of falling dragons.

In her haste to get back to form, Eirinth’s tail caught the back end of a small aggregate of Thread. She tried to mollify Rhea’s mood as they hopped Between and back, but...Oh, she hated her status sometimes!

Another few silvers of thread drifted down, a bit close but nothing a burst from the flamethrower couldn't handle. Yet the wind proved once again to be just as awful a foe as thread, as the fresh ash from the seared threads blew right back into their faces. Khamaith cried out, trying to sway the hot ash away from her face before the pair disappeared, reappearing once more to cool away the burn.

A scream sounded in her head, one that she'd heard a handful of times since coming to fly with the Queen's Wing under Threadfall. Khamaith's pain wasn't one that she enjoyed listening to, but she'd heard it entirely too many times this flight and there was no real end in sight. Carefully she reached out and placed where she was, not far away from her within the formation pattern and her great wings surged forward with a warning rumble in Pavari's head. Green eyes widened behind the mask as the young woman simply readied her flamethrower and aimed it straight above so she could catch a little strand that was threatening her friend's dragon. Her dragon's daughter.
While she was protective of her children, Susurinth generally had a more hands off watching of them, seeing how they grew and letting them come to her if they liked, for she felt more a failure after the loss of one of her children when she knew her bronze mate wouldn't have failed so. This feeling that Pavari was picking up from her was different, there was fear but there was anger and determination in those sweet hearts suddenly, the latter not rare but the former was completely unheard of.
KHAMAITH. She was no fool and knew for certain that her daughter could ignore the command if she wanted given their rank was the same, but her voice was all but thunderous and actually had her rider flinch for a moment before turning to look for more thread soberly. This fight is not even half over, you still have much left to do and should you take much more damage you will be unable to return to defend this Weyr and continent that you love so dearly. You and yours are past when you should go back to the healers. Susurinth pushed hard with all her might and mind at the other gold, her hearts aching as she did so. Take yours back, you need healing before you can return. NOW.
Close enough to her daughter, she could see the damage that had been done and even though she was upset and concerned, her eyes were blood red as she looked at the pair of them.
