64. The healer looks at your wound and starts trying to patch you up. They're not being particularly gentle on you, but you can tell they're quite invested in making sure your wound (or your dragons) heals right! Unfortunately, that's going to take some time. Return Request Denied! Regain +5 HP but re-roll from the Healers Grid! You still haven't been given clearance to return

Wuth was starting to snap his jaws, expression his irritation that the healers could easily feel without the visible cue. But still they kept him.

Ky’ess & Hiraeth - Trespassers (2nd Wave)
TRESPASSERS
Ky’ess of Blue Hiraeth
HP: 25/25
Status Effect:
XP:
Target Accuracy: 2
Flame Length: 4
General Stamina: 2
General Agility: 2
Between Accuracy: 4
Pain Resilience: 2
Instinct: 2

There’s a small, pleased curl in Hiraeth that he covets for the praise. He straightens out a bit more, puffs his chest as if the silly glowing lanterns were suddenly a new fashion, and not required of him for threadfall. But if Bajeth liked them, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to wear them again. A silly notion of maybe outside a nighttime threadfall -- not like that would be possible, but possibly make him look quite silly, wouldn’t it..?

We’ll be careful. It’s a quiet promise, as he tucks his wings back against his sides -- tight against his middle, like a hug to himself. His false bravado is slipping to show the deep-rooted worry, that three of his wingmates had fallen, many more had needed patched up to be sent back into the air. He spies his brother Ingonth out of the corner of his gaze, though he was solely focused on Bajeth. I -- I hope that we won’t need to, but we’ll come back to be looked after, I swear. If they were able to. That was always a possibility -- that thread hit too hard, too fast, and --

And panicking with his time with Bajeth dwindling, before they would go fight wasn’t good. I’m fast, remember? -- and we still need a race rematch. Thread couldn’t touch him if he had plans like Ky’ess did, right? Not a date, but.. plans.

Ky’ess tries to pass off as casual as soon as S’ian’s gaze is on him. Worry is running deep in his bond with Hiraeth, but he doesn’t want to worry the bronzerider any more than he has to be already. He’s seen different Burning Aces wingriders come in to get patched up again and again; there were more important things to worry about than one little bluerider. “No doubt -- I helped where I could, but glad I took a bit extra time for the lanterns. I had one that wanted to give me an absolute fit and refused to stay tied..” The man chuckled, trying so hard to keep the semblance of calm and collected.

How was he doing, though? “I, ah…” And yet a simple question tore it all down, his thin veneer cracking as Ky’ess hesitated, biting his lip as he slowly nodded. “.. Y-yeah, pretty bad. It’s certainly been an evening already, huh?” S’ian’s hand on his shoulder is so warm, even through his jacket, and Ky’ess couldn’t quite help the ever-so-slight lean into the contact. What could he do but deflect? “We’ve only the best healers, right? Rixth and Nioweth are in good hands, but..” But Thella and Lireloth had perished in the first hour, when they’d been in the middle altitude--and they’d be joining their wing at high altitude.

“I’m.. worried.” Scared. Terrified.
His duty would be done proudly; he was a dragonrider of pern, a rider of High Reaches. But it didn’t mean he wasn’t just.. scared.

Roll 1: Nothing, to the healers next
Roll 2: Healers: Totally healed, all status removed and HP 100% restored

Zetigeth circled above the bowl once, twice, finally landing roughly on the stones in a way that made his back claws scrape just slightly. To his relief healers came running before D'ast was even out of his straps and as the rider explained what had happened the brown buckled just a bit to lay down for those that would be looking at his sides and wings for all the phosphorous burns.

To both of their surprise the healers made very fast work of all the injuries. Of course they'd had some bad injuries before, some worse than this though none as bad as Tarmath and Alythrae, the pair had been in aching pain, which the healers then rounded upon them for their foolishness of pushing it.

Chastised slightly, healed and injuries soothed so that they no longer ached and stung and made focusing hard, D'ast and Zetigeth rose once more.

When they appeared from between to land, G'rey had expected to need to wait for a short while for a free healer. He knew that this Threadfall had been harsh, and surely there were more important riders than him that needed tended to more swiftly. But to his surprise, almost the moment they touched down, the healers were ready to see to Karhath. He relayed his dragon's concern about his wing, keeping out of the way as His was tended to and his wounds washed with redwort and the worst of his Threadscore slathered with a healthy amount of numbweed.

Oh. That feels lovely.

Already G'rey could feel the tension easing out of Karhath's tightly wound muscles. And it felt like no time at all before one of the healers addressed him again, informing him that Karhath's injuries weren't nearly as bad as they appeared and that his wing showed no signs of stress injury. It seemed the tension he'd been carrying from the pain had been the cause of the pull he'd been feeling, and he was cleared to return to the skies. It was another great relief for G'rey to hear. The Threadscore, at least, would undoubtedly scar - but there was no serious injury that would require longer treatment.

You ready?

Always. Let us return.

And with a grateful croon to the healers, Karhath took to the skies once again, popping between to return to the fight.

More of the worry seeped into Hiraeth's body language and mindvoice, showing the blue's true feelings about going up when the switch came. Bajeth couldn't blame him, not when he'd been here to feel Lireloth's death and see his wingmates carried in by golds. There was always that possibility that you wouldn't return, after all. That was just part of being a rider and a dragon. Didn't mean it made it less scary.

You are fast, Bajeth agreed, his voice tender with support. And you will do well. He was a firm believer of speaking good things into existence so repeating that Hiraeth would do well, that he'd succeed were important to say over and over. It wouldn't do to spout worry and fear when it would only clog Hiraeth's mind with doubt.

Be cautious, use your training and skills to good use, and you will be fine. This isn't your first fall. Reassuring but gentle, Bajeth reached out with his paw on his good side ot gently knock one of the lanterns to watch the glows flare just a bit, their home swaying softly against the blue hide.

And it won't be your last. Do we have that rematch and I was terribly rude for not following my own advice during the last fall. Sorry to make you wait. There was a touch of amusement in his tone now, a hint of a smile around the edge of his words.

Ky'ess' admission made S'ian's chest tighten in sympathy and his hand echoed the feeling, fingers squeezing the blue rider's shoulder. He had every right to be worried, scared, terrified. Just because they were trained to do this didn't make it any less nerve wracking. There was only so much words could do, getting up there into the thick of things would help, but for now S'ian needed a way to reassure Ky'ess so he didn't work himself up into a ball of anxiety.

"We do have the best healers. No one will fault you for coming back often if you need it, especially now that there's holes to fill. Your wing and your weyr would rather see you healthy than out of service." Out of service...that was a rather cold and detached way of putting it. S'ian closed his eyes and let out a quiet sigh, using his other hand to rub his eyes. Sometimes when he got in Wingsecond mode he could lose a bit of his humanity.

"I would rather see you back here often than being carried in by a gold," he muttered, letting his hand fall from his eyes as he fixed Ky'ess with an honest stare. "It's hard to find people that will listen to be moan and complain about stupid things, so don't go getting yourself hurt or-" Dead. It was unsaid but implied in the silence.

"Well. You're smart. You know Hiraeth and your limits."

Claws worrying against the ground, the little blue almost felt dwarfed as he stood near Bajeth, staying quiet as he listened. He’d always been fast and agile, though nothing compared to a green, as long as he kept staying ahead or behind thread and his flame on point, well. He should be fine. This wasn’t his first fall, and he’s nearing a turn of experience fighting against the menace. But after all this time, he still had the mental frights he’d had before his blooding. Would there be any point where he could fight with confidence? Or would he be fodder long before then?

But Bajeth’s reaffirmations are solid, and he wants to soak in the reassurances he finds in the willful words. Staying still as one of the lanterns is gently knocked, and the motion is.. oddly settling for him. Playful in gesture, but he wants to tuck himself beneath that paw, to cuddle against Bajeth’s uninjured side and soak in such kind assurances. Yet he stayed firmly rooted, perhaps some of the yellow bleeding out for other, more grounded colors.

I will, though I doubt I’ll ever have your level of confidence when it comes to threadfall. The self-depreciative joke is a bit dry, but he’s trying to deflect -- from his own wants, mostly. But he and Ky’ess made a good team, and Hiraeth had good instincts -- or so he liked to believe. Mistakes happen, and I’m glad you’re recovering. You don’t have to apologize. More than glad it was something able to recover from--that Bajeth was here to recover, but. Hiraeth crooned a soft note, beaming just a touch. I’d happily wait however long. He’d do good today -- for his rider, for his wingleader, for Bajeth, and for himself.

Nodding absently, the hand on his shoulder felt like a tether. Threadfall hurt him, had scored Ky’ess badly on their blooding from shoulder to hip; his dragon’s own nerves, though he’d never dare waste a single thought on ever pointing blame, never quite helped when they rose to fight. Clutched at each other until they landed, where they felt safe until they next needed to fly. Instinct, lessons, and drills were what he relied on in the air, and it usually kept him safe -- par a bad job checking his straps recently (and at least that had only been a slipped shoulder than something broken, as he’d feared).

But out of service.. stung.
Ky’ess can see the fact in it, for he was of better use to his wing in some form of fighting shape than injured, or worse. But he squares up a touch for the wingsecond, trying to not cave like he wants to. He tries to not let it show, and takes a breath to steady himself. Feelings didn’t hold water in the face of threadfall, after all. But the bluerider can only meet such an honest gaze, pursing his lips slightly.

“I’ll do my best to come back in one piece.” Ky’ess wants to promise so much more; that S’ian won’t have to see him carried in on a gold, that he would do his damnedest to keep himself and Hiraeth safe. But he chuckles softly, and smiles, small and honest though it may be. “I’ll be back before you know it -- and happily listening over klah.” Maybe the reminder that there was plans would do S’ian as good as it would himself. Let the unfinished word hang and be left to rot -- Ky;ess would be back.

But as he hears his fellow blue-, green- and whiteriders readying themselves for the change over for the wings, Ky’ess clapped his hand against S’ian’s on his shoulder. “We’ll be off in a few -- any last words?”

Nyara of Gold Mictecath - Faranth's Furies (Hour 1)

She was glad that T’en was at least semi-coherent, even if he was hurt, and his dragon was unconscious. Nya found it very hard to look at poor Rixth- but she couldn’t look away… the red, the black, the ichor dripping down his sleek hide… Her stomach turned a little. “I’m okay with that, T’en.” She whispered back, rubbing a stray tear from her cheek as she tried to think of the best way to comfort the man. “It’s going to be okay.” There wasn’t really anything she could do… it was out of her hands for now. But they would go and visit the bronzepair once Fall was over. Nyara didn’t think Mictecath would have it any other way.

Mictecath turned whirling eyes filled with worry on her sire. She rumbled again once more, stretching as she stood, then glanced about the bowl… there was… Ah. Reassurance. Her eyes locked with Venandith, still coloured with worry, but tinged with a touch of frustration. Things were strained between them- still… and still she struggled with forgiveness… but in this moment, this duty, she wished, she hoped… Don’t die. She told him, exasperation mingling with the softness of a sister who did care, despite the aggravation she sometimes felt for the self-confident brown.

Her glance arrested on another brown sibling, who was being tended by healers of his own, and the slight creeping red faded once again. Nanuth… Come back as well. She sent him, the softest, gentlest touch filled with warmth and encouragement. Nya had pulled herself upwards, on to her back, and she lifted off the ground with a mighty sweep of her wings.

You've been noticed, Meigth rumbled, mentally brushing against Nassiva's mind with a fond We're fine, and a soft nudge of affection. No doubt from his rider. N'ori slapped an open palm against his shoulder. "Don't."

It wasn't a lie, in particular, as the healers patching up the pair seemed to have done all they could (or were willing to do, as it was the serial-visitor, N'ori) and now it was time to be up again.

Watching the yellow fade from Hiraeth's eyes and felt a bit better about what the future held. It was perfectly fine and normal to be nervous and worried before fighting Thread but going in with positive thoughts could make a world of a difference.

He gave a soft huff of amusement at the blue's reply. Bajeth might talk big, but he was always worried going up as well. When you lost someone you loved to Thread it would always linger in the back of your mind. Would it happen to them this time? Would other people and dragons you cared for disappear and never return? Once it touched you personally it never left your mind and unfortunately just about everyone excluding perhaps some of the newest riders and Candidates had been affected by Thread on a personal level.

Hopefully sooner rather than later. I'm looking forward to the rematch, even though I'm sure you'll win again. Lifting his head, he spotted more dragons and riders from his wing collecting in the bowl and his eyes swirled with grey. He wanted up be up there to help, but that wasn't possible now.

"Good. Great. My own personal mindhealer," S'ian joked. Bajeth had tired to get him to see an actual mindhealer for quite some time now, but he'd turned it down every time. He knew the benefit of talking, how it could release pent up emotions, but he didn't want to talk about what he needed to talk about. That was the problem. At least he could blow off some steam about being grounded to Ky'ess.

He gave a soft huff just as Bajeth did, their minds synching for a moment as they both gave their little exhale of amusement. Any last words...

"Give Thread a what-for for me. You've got Bajeth and I flying with you today." He gave Ky'ess' shoulder another squeeze before dropping his arm, their joint connection broken. He could tell from Bajeth's sudden change in emotion that more of their wing had come in and he glanced towards the main part of the bowl.

"Stay safe up there," he added, glancing back at Ky'ess. "And I'll see you when it's over."

C'mric was already stripping by the time Orthoth hit the ground heavily. Shouting, "Get it out! Get it off of me!" as he skidded free of his straps, C'mric dropped his jacket and willingly let a healer pull him, limping, toward one of the tubs. He all but threw himself into the water. It was one thing to feel the stuff bite into skin and then come away in the cold. It was another thing entirely to feel a still wriggling bit burrow into skin...

Time was dwindling, and though he was all set to go, he knew he and Ky’ess should go get ready for their mark. Dragons and riders preparing for the change-over, and he can feel the need in his rider to check one more time to make certain his straps were tight. Though he’s confused by Bajeth’s amusement, it’s never the less easier when he at least brought some kind of humor to his friend -- or so he assumes.

If I didn’t have my headstart, I think you’d have beaten me. But we’ll just have to see some day. But he takes a step back as Bajeth looks around, to watch more injured dragons land at the infirmary -- some he can pick out as Harbingers, but a few Burning Aces as well. But no one came in on a queen, and though injuries weren’t good, no one was staying down. It had to count for something, certainly. With a soft wave of warmth -- for such kind words Bajeth gave to him, he had to try and assure that worry for his wing that he could -- Hiraeth chirped softly. See you soon! The blue is off, skirting around stationed dragons shifting with anticipation.

“My going rate is a cup of klah. Maybe something sweet if you want to hold the emotional support flit.” Daresay, a joke in return? But it was good to see S’ian joke and relax some, even with stress all around them. It was helpful to relax him some, even as he’s on borrowed time. He’s been quietly looking forward to when he can just have a chat with the bronzerider, even just to sit and listen.

It’d be a lie to say there wasn’t a bit of pride, of reassurance. But he misses the contact instantly, the warmth of his hand gone. He had to go, Ky’ess knew that. “I will. Try not to worry -- I’ll be back on the ground soon enough.” Ky’ess beamed, and though his stomach still threatened to twist itself together with worry, there was a bit of an outlook to be had; a silver lining to the storm cloud.

He’s gone quick enough, to meet up with Hiraeth back with his wingmates and make one final check.

The boy didn't even have it in him to cry out when the healers began to peel his tattered leathers off of his back--with the burn of thread still fresh on his mind and causing his nerves to scream in pain, all he wanted was numbweed. Rouleth was uncharacteristically quiet for once, curled on the ground and watching as his rider was bandaged at breakneck pace. There was nothing else he could do but stand aside, and as much as that frustrated him, he knew it was for the best. The healers knew what they were doing, and it wasn't long before I'ar was at least well-packaged in bandages.
As much as I'ar wanted to rest, they didn't have the time. Thread was still falling, and so they readied themselves to return to their wing.
