Nashwa - NPC Candidate As ashamed as she was for her fellow candidates, and for her Weyr, Nashwa knew she had to pull herself up out of such negative thoughts. She took a deep breath, made herself stand up straight again, and fixed her attention back where it belonged, on the lovely hatchlings on the Sands before them. The handsome blue asked a very valid question, and made her feel guilty for her earlier thought, however fleeting, of being so shamed that she would remove herself from the Sands, if only it would help. If only anything at all would help.
But her own thoughts were apparently - fortunately! - not what he was questioning, as he soon set off in pursuit of someone who'd actually chosen to begin making their way off the Sands. Really?! And yet, it seemed that that girl was the one the blue wanted.
Well then. How lucky for them both she hadn't made it too far away.

Baby Mine White The little white was absolutely horrified about everything that was going on. There were suddenly upset Candidates, and upset hatchlings, and upset adults... Were they taking too long to be borned? Were they the problem? The little white creeled, terribly upset by all the chaos that seemed to be going on!
The little white cuddled and tried to bury himself against Krahsujunth, grateful that his father had his wings spread out so protectively. Are we so bad? The little white asked, feeling a bit ashamed. He drooped against his father, eyes turning yellow-white. I...took a long time to hatch. I made them all wait. Maybe they shouldn't...have to wait. Maybe... We're not so important. Was it just him because he was a little white? Or was it all of his siblings who hatched later than the rest?
A small little creel. Perhaps he should hurry then, and not make them wait? And yet... What if he picked wrong? What if the one he wanted didn't want him back? What if... what if this was the only time he had to cuddle before they all went back to being duty bound? Was wanting just a few more moments such a crime?
- - - Bright Red Bronze The bronze, who had been rather quiet through all the drama, was still picking his way through the hatchings. The drama had been rather, well, dramatic and the bronze was unsure if he should bugle happily in delight over driving that bronze away, or keen for all the hurt hearts he was feeling. It was such a mix! So confusing! And yet... He also felt an emptiness within.
Picking his way throughout the Candidates, the bronze swished his tail and poked at every boy he passed. They all were so beautiful, so divine, so glorious, and yet... None of them were quite entirely right. Oh dear. This was such a difficult choice too!
Oh where, oh where was His? Perhaps he had left already? Perhaps he hadn't been Searched yet? Oh dear. The bronze continued to make his way. Hmmm. Someone out there had to be His. Or perhaps he would get whisked away by a foreigner in the Stands? Or maybe his very young life would be snatched by the cold of Between, crying out for His, only to be silenced. Ooooh. What a perfectly dramatic thought! .... perhaps a bit morbid though.
- - - Neon Teal & Yellow Brown The dragon continued to pick his way among the Candidates. That one was definitely not dragonrider material, nope. That one he could see on a brown, maybe an ambitious blue. That one was definitely meant for a different hatching. That one needed to grow up a bit, and maybe then they could tempt a green. The brown continued to nose at the Candidates, passing quiet judgment on each one as he passed.
And yet... Wait.
What was that?

Hyseren The man was left on the sands alone, watching as more dragons hatched and wound their way through the candidates. He tried to push the thoughts about his twin from his mind. Was she ok? Was her dragon? What would happen now, especially if he didn't Impress? After all, he had been a tag along, he hadn't been fully convinced this was the path for him. Would the Weyr let him stay or would they count him among those who had caused trouble and boot him back to Tillek? Would he be able to keep in touch with Haelwen anywau, if it did happen that way? Oh Faranth. Get a hold of yourself Hyseren. Haelwen would be find on her own... or, she wasn't really alone anymore was she? She had her white dragon to be beside her for the rest of their lives. Yes. She would be ok. Even without him. If that stung a bit he would never admit it.
Hyseren plastered a smile on his face as he looked at the dragons on the Sands, then at the remaining candidates. So many people left and so few dragons, the event was decidedly winding down. Still, his eyes found the blue dragonet again and watched him as he lay down. No one should leave before all of you have found yours unless they are forced out or so injured they can no longer stand, in which case they should be with the healers. Can you not sense yours here little one?

To hear the blue croon was like hearing distant thunder. But for those Krahsujunth called his own, it was a comforting sound. Not a storm coming to catch them, but a storm held far at bay, the comforts of home wrapping around them instead. Warm sands, good food, shelter from any storm. The blue wouldn't let any harm come to his precious children if he had a say in it.
Nonsense. He rumbled, authoritative but oh so kind. You are worth the wait, and more than any of them could ever dream of. Do not let them upset you. If it comes down to it...you will always have your mother and I. Krah would...actually have liked it if he could keep a baby or two, or all of them. He would deeply miss his precious ones as they went about their own lives, away from him... How had Fianth born this sweet pain, time after time? He sent her a loving, tender thought as well.
You are the sun and the moon and all the stars in the sky to your special person. There is no one more important to them than you are. Those unwilling to wait...are not worthy of you, my moonbeam. So you stay put as long as you like. And if they do think to leave...I will drag them back for you, and they will spend the rest of their days making it up to you for leaving you behind. I promise.

orri
Orri also didn't want to separate; though he wouldn't want to admit it, he was a little bit frightened as to what this would all mean, moving forward. Would some of them get their candidacy rescinded? Would all of them? Would High Reaches decide it was time to shake the detritus off its ranked riders and find someone new? Shards, and Soui, he had forgotten about her in the midst of it all...
Calm down, he told himself. Stop being in your head. That was always his problem. Right now, they needed to help keep the peace in whatever way they could. (Would it matter? No, no, stop thinking like that--)
"Right." He nodded to Dehka and let go of his sleeve, moving that hand to steady his unbalanced glasses and plastering it over his left, bandaged ear. "Um. Meet back at the end?" He smiled something that hopefully looked confident and then pulled away. This wasn't going to get any worse, not with them on the job!
Then and there, Orri began his best impression of Herg'r: which was to say, had he been a dragon, he would have been radiating vigorous joy, even though he wasn't quite so loud or as excitable in movement as his dad. Now was the time to act as though everyone was a friend, and to not second-guess himself about bothering said would-be friends. Kinyegale's cooing was echoed by him as several more greens showed up. "They've all been stunning!" Orri said. "It's amazing seeing them all up close like this, with the sunrise hitting them just right."
Metzli's talk of cake reminded him of his empty stomach, but...no! Enthusiasm! "Can dragons even eat cake?" Orri asked, a somewhat hammy laugh accompanying it. Maybe that was a bit much. Too late. "This Feast is definitely going to be huge, though. Don't you all want to see?" he asked, turning to the remaining eggs and dragonets. "We're here for you, always! But the party won't start until you walk in. Everyone will be there, don't worry!"
