((Sounds good.))
Joshua gave a small sigh of relief as he felt the sand beneath his feet. He waded up to the beach where he flopped down. He lay there panting for a moment before sitting up to look for Joey and Aoife. Again, the thought crossed his mind, wondering where Lucian had disappeared to. 'He's a big dragon. He can take care of himself. I don't need to worry about him. I mean, he's how old? And I only met him recently.' The throbbing of his head pushed all those thoughts right out. Joshua's hand rose part way before falling back to rest on his knee. As much as he just wanted to hold his head and make it all stop, he didn't want to worry Katalina.

He was too late. Katalina had caught the gesture and was already worried. "Joshua?" she asked uncertainly, coming as close as she dared to the sandy shore. "What is it?"
I took him too deep too fast, I pushed too hard, if he's hurt it's all my fault, she thought miserably. Taking on guilt was a habit she had never managed to break, even after leaving her family behind.
Thinking of family led her to thinking of water creatures, which made her wonder where Joey and Aoife had ended up. Scanning the water, she didn't see them. That wasn't good. If something happened to Joshua while he was on land, she couldn't help him.

Joshua glanced up at the sound of Katalina's voice. "It's nothing." He shook his head sharply, trying to dispel her worries. He hiss as the pain made him bit his lip. Gently, he brought his knees up and rested his head on them. "I'll be fine Katalina. It's nothing to worry about." He took deep breathes, trying to relax. 'I wish this pounding would just go away. It's making it hard to think properly.'

Katalina's eyes narrowed when she heard the hiss and watched him flinch. "Liar," she accused, coming closer still, feeling the sand scrape against her body. She was getting a little too close to the beach, but to hell with that. "I heard that. What's wrong with you?" She knew that something was wrong now, and was more hurt that he refused to tell her so than anything.

Joshua sighed when she called him a liar. 'Why can't she just leave me alone?!' He knew his thoughts were snappy only because of the pain in his head. Otherwise, there would have been no way he would of thought something like that. He raised his head slightly, just enough to glare at Katalina. His amber eyes were beginning to glaze over in pain. "It's nothing! Just a little headache!" Somewhere in the back of his mind, Joshua knew he was going to regret this later. He was going to regret snapping at his first real friend in who knows how long.

Katalina flinched when he snapped at her, before her chin shot up and her eyes darkened. "Fine," she said coolly. "If it's just a little one..." She pulled closer. Distantly, she realized that she was almost completely out of the water. "Why don't you go in the shade and look after it?" Archly, she pushed herself back into the water. "I'll make sure to shut up and leave you alone."
She was trying not to be angry or hurt, hoping it was just the pain that was making him act so irrationally. But she was, and being that way made it difficult for her to be rational. So she'd go away for a few minutes, let him be. He knew how to reach her. Besides, it wasn't like she was being any help.

Normally, Joshua was a peaceful person, not given to angry outbursts. "I will go! And you can just bug off!" He replied hotly. He would sorely regret this later, but at the moment all he cared about was the pounding behind his eyes. He pushed himself to a standing position with a quick, sudden movement. He stood, weaving slightly for a moment. Then he stumbled off into the shade of the trees near the beach. Even that short walk felt like forever. With a sigh of relief, he leaned against a tree and slid so he was sitting at the base. The temperature difference was noticeable, even to Joshua. He closed his eyes, the shade being comforting.

Katalina only caught about half of his words, being in the middle of a dive when he spoke. "I will go! And y--" She considered going back up to find out what he'd said, but decided that it wasn't worth it. In all likelihood, considering the sniping earlier, she didn't really want to know.
Humans, she thought wearily. They're even more confusing than we are. She sank like a stone, closing her eyes thoughtfully as the water whooshed comfortingly around her. Floating lazily back towards the coral, she wondered again, absently, where Joey and Aoife were. Looking back over her shoulder, she hoped Joshua would be back to normal soon.

Joshua lay in the shade, enjoying the coolness. A soft breeze blew past and rustled the leaves above him. The sound was quiet and relaxing. He found himself drifting off to sleep. He was thankful when the darkness enveloped him. It meant he wasn't feeling anymore. The headache couldn't bother him in sleep. While he slept, the headache began receding. His body and mind healed best when he was unconscious. His dreamless sleep was the best thing that could happen to his mind. It escaped into the darkness, welcoming it with open arms. There he stayed until the sun shifted and shone on his eyes.
Joshua stirred, cracking open one eye to glance around. His sight was blurry with sleep, but he could see enough to tell he was sitting on the beach. 'The beach? What in the world?' He opened the other eye and looked around properly. Yep, he wasn't in his camp and the sun was still in the sky. He began drudging through his memories, trying to figure out what had happened.
With a snap, the memories unlocked, allowing him to recall the harsh words he'd spoken. Joshua clapped one hand to his face. "Oh I can't believe I did that. How stupid can I get? Please don't let her be too mad." He expected her to be mad considering what he'd said and done. Rising, Joshua headed to the water and waded out to his waist. There, he snapped on his mask and tank, intending to search out Katalina and apologize.

Katalina had kept a covert eye on Joshua for a while, until he was clearly asleep. Then, bored and still more than a little angry, she'd left the cove intending to search out something to do with herself. Maybe she would visit Kra again, she had thought - she'd had a couple of thoughts the night before that she wanted to discuss with him.
Even as she told herself that, she'd known that that wasn't where she intended to go. Now she floated just outside the entrance to the Siren's cave, waiting. Sure enough, Narcis eventually came out, looking irritated. His annoyance quickly morphed into something resembling concern when he saw her. "Sorry," he said. "Why are you here?"
She shrugged. "I don't really know," she said. "Just talk with me a while."
Lapsing into their own tongue, the two of them gradually wandered farther from the caves, back towards the beach she'd come from. It was then that Narcis thought to ask, "Where's your human?"
Katalina's eyes narrowed. "He's not my human," she said automatically, still in their own language - because it was easier. "And as far as I know, he's still sleeping on the beach."
Sensing a sore spot, Narcis didn't press. But privately, he wondered.

Joshua slipped into the water smoothly, heading towards the coral reefs. It was the first place that came to mind when searching for Katalina. The nap had restored his strength as well as mind, so he swam with strong strokes. He began a systematic search of the reefs. He began on one side and headed towards the other, searching all the nooks and crannies he could find. 'Why in the world do I think I can find a mermaid that doesn't want to be found? She has the whole ocean to hide in!' Still, he didn't give up. Joshua had to apologize to Katalina. He'd snapped at her for the simple act of being worried. In his mind, that was unacceptable and he had to right the wrong.

Katalina sighed as she floated back into her home coral. "I suppose I should go back and check on him," she said reluctantly, glancing at Narcis. "He was pretty sick, and it was my fault, really--"
"No," Narcis cut her off immediately. "Don't even say it, cousin. I've been listening to you say it was your fault for over a hundred years, and I refuse to hear it again. You can't take the blame for everything," he continued, his voice a little gentler. "Don't try. Now, if you're going to go back to your human, I should return to Riiya and Korai."
Katalina smiled a little, touched. "I'll remember that," she replied softly. "Take care."
She watched him leave, and then turned back to the beach, steeling herself to go back.

Joshua sighed and drifted backwards, scanning the coral in front of him. There'd been no sign of the mermaid he was seeking. He crossed his arms, floating in the warm cove waters. 'Where is she? Where could she have gone to?' As these thoughts passed through his mind, he realized just how little he really knew about the mermaid. 'Well, if I can't find her, maybe she'll come back on her own?' His thoughts were questioning. Joshua wasn't sure how much he'd hurt Katalina with his words. With a sigh, he turned towards the shore. It seemed he would have to wait for her to come back. 'I can't very well search the entire ocean. Even if I tried, I'd be bound to miss some places.' When the waters were waist deep, he stood and turned to the ocean for one last look.
