No sooner has Renose decided to move away from the group than the first egg cracked properly, spilling out a wonderfully energetic green onto the sands. It was a nice start, certainly better than the bloodbath he'd heard came from the Western bronze starter, so Renose took victories where they stood. A happy green at the start meant the chances of him ending up wearing bandages back home was low, and he likes those chances. Certainly it also meant the likelihood of his friends getting torn up was low as well, which made it even better. The teen likely wouldn't hesitate to throw himself in front of someone he cared for, that was the perk of being his friend, but if he didn't need to he wasn't going to.

Still, this green seemed nice enough. Her eyes were blue, she was running like the wind, and her interactions with everyone were......decent. Nice really was the only word he could think of and it suited her well enough. Perhaps whomever Impressed her needed someone like that in their life, or whatever sappy thoughts generally came to mind whenever a dragonet was out and about. Lots of people thought of pairs, of give and take,

Renose was currently thinking that he was hungry, and that his face was starting to burn. Peeling in the winter was going to be weird.

Rizdax

This was exciting, he wasn't even paying any attention to the burns that were forming all over his face, shoulders and arms. There were people all around him, which actually wasn't all that bothersome as he'd had to share tables back in the crafthall when he was learning. Most of their comments ran towards the eggs and the sun, which was about all there was to even look at other than all the other candidates and riders that were surrounding them on the little sandy island.

"If a dragon is out there that would Impress to me, who cares about some sunburn? It's such an exciting clutch from the looks of it, check out how all of them are moving! I can't wait to see what they do when they hatch." Rizdax pondered, he was hoping that none of them would be out for blood but there was no way for him to contain his excitement. Maybe if it hadn't been his first hatching he would be a little more composed, but this was far too exciting to be reserved.

Glancing to his side a bit as Renose moved, he did understand at least, he knew that there were others that weren't super excited by being in crowds. In fact Riz was wondering how well Shar was handling being this surrounded by others herself, it didn't seem to bother the others though. In the end there was no use worrying, if any of them got violent he would do what he could to keep his friends safe, that much Riz at least could handle but he wasn't entirely sure how lively this clutch would be having been so random.

His thoughts were answered as one simply exploded from it's shell. A pale little green that immediately began to run around with excitement in her stride that seemed reflect his own. She was the first dragon he had ever seen hatch and just seeing her excited little face Riz felt something bubble up inside of him and he laughed. Not because it was funny, though her entrance into the world had certainly been memorable. But because she was clearly having the time of her little green life and it had only just begun. It reminded him of his siblings and for one moment amidst all the pain and loss that thoughts of them brought, he didn’t feel sad. He could remember them without a crushing feeling and he sent a happy thank you to the little green, at least as much as he could anyway, for she had brought that on.

Memories of cloudy green wings carrying him up resurfaced suddenly, but no words. Greens were good dragons. He would always believe that no matter what High Reaches was set up to believe in colors.

Etansi

These were wobbly little eggs from what Etansi could tell, they were so active that it made her feel... not nervous exactly but certainly not the same level of comfortable that she had been just moments before. Her grip on Erastan's hand tightened without her knowledge of it and her eyes widened a bit when the little pink egg simply exploded open and a dragonet burst out with what looked like a purpose.

"You were right, green first." Etansi said quietly as she sidled a bit closer to him. Anyone other than her twin might have thought she was trying to hide, but in reality she was getting closer to him in the hopes that she could shove him out of the way if that dragon came towards them with any thoughts of mauling someone. No baby dragon was going to hurt her twin brother while she was here to watch after him and if she had to physically shove him towards Killakeeth then she would!

Hello! New friend! Kinyregele received a nuzzle from Solid Pink Green, who skidded to a stop to say hi. Then, when a curious sniff brought her away from the girl's side, she ran off to see someone else.

Someone whose skin was doing interesting things. Was his hide cracked? Giving a happy cheep, Solid Pink Green sat back on her haunches for a moment, just long enough to peer into Renose's face.

... And then she was off again, off like a shot to find a new friend, and a new thing, and...

What was that over there? Not very far away, and talking to her. Hello! The little Green rubbed her head along Rizdax's hand, excited to find yet another new buddy.

Renose had been pretty deep in thought about peeling when he spotted a set of eyes looking up at him. They still rolled that merry blue, followed by what could only be described as the cutest sound ever, and Renose felt his heart melt. From the dragonet, not quite the heat just yet. Though the heat was really close at making him stop down why were they required to wear robes still.

The dragonet was gone just as quickly as she'd arrived, but Renose appreciated her little moment of interaction none the less. It was nice when the method a baby chose to have with you didn't involve screaming of the rending of flesh. A glance over had him catching the green with Rizdax, and the teen couldn't help the smile that spread over his face. This was Radish's first hatching, as far as Renose could tell, and he certainly wanted it to be a good a memorable one for him.

Faranth knew the kid needed some happy memories.

If it was possible Rizdax's heart just stopped in his chest for a moment and he wanted so bad to run his hand along that green's head and tell her just how cute she was. And she really was cute, really! It was the first baby dragon that he'd ever gotten the chance to see up close and here she was not tearing through him or his friends. She had even cheeped up at Renose. His Candidatemaster was here though and he couldn't just reach out to touch her if he wanted to pull back his hand intact. Sure she was friendly right now but that didn't mean that she would be the entire time if she didn't find who she was meant for soon.

Didn't mean for one second that he couldn't talk to her though!

"Hey there baby green, you're a beautiful thing. If you find yours soon you can get something to eat and be spoiled like you deserve." Riz said to her, a huge grin on his face for her sweet temperament. No matter what he loved all dragons but greens would always be special to him. "Just promise me that you'll be brave and have lots of fun with your bonded."

Astriana (Western)

Astriana had kept her eyes on the eggs and it was a good thing she did too. It seemed that soon after the small egg began to do all that movement, the pale blue one beside it gave a little movement. Just like the purple swirled one before, it was just for a little, before it was calm again. That one might need a bit more time, it would seem, but that was alright. Just like all creatures, dragons would do things in their own time. Then she heard what sounded like a crack and she looked over all the eggs, to see where it had come from. None of them seemed to have any cracks, so she wasn't sure who was trying to come out yet.

These eggs are definitely trying to keep us on our toes, aren't they? I do wonder which one is going to come out and greet us first, she mused to herself. The answer to that query would soon come in the form of the solid pink egg beginning to move a lot. Then in a shower of shells, a little green came onto the scene. Her eyes seemed to smile as she watched the little dragon begin to run around the sands. Well, this was definitely one excitable baby, she wondered if it would go to someone like that one that had been bothering Cedarian earlier. She watched as the baby greeted some of the candidates, this one had a sunny disposition, that was for sure. She would have to remember to tell her twin about this when she saw him again.

Ashlyn and Blue Gyafrith (HR Asst Weyrlingmaster)

Ashlyn had been busy preparing the meat that was brought, allowing Gyafrith to tell her of any movements down on the sands. It didn't seem like much, at least at first, just little twitching from a couple of them. Her blue had said the most energetic had been the indigo, though he soon had to amend that when the pink one began its rocking. Once that one hatched into a little green, a smile came to her lips. Tarot hatching had green to start with as well and that group was a pretty good one. So hopefully that would bode well with this group too, least she could hope. She felt Gyafrith passing on the information to the Sr. Weyrlings, including Monath and Demanthra.

Monath was excited by it being a green coming out first. She said she doesn't care about any superstitions, greens are the real luck of a clutch. Oh and look, the little green even greeted Kinye,Gyafrith spoke in his partner's mind. He saw the smile on Ashlyn's face get wider, both of them knowing how the girl would like that.

Well, things were certainly starting off with a bang. One of the eggs burst open, revealing a pretty little green within. The dragonnet was clearly glad to be free of her little prison as she began to tear around the sands, only pausing now and then as a Candidate caught her attention. Shar held her breath as the little grin approached Riz, bumping her head against his hand. She couldn't help the growing smile on her face as she watched her friend interact with a baby dragon for the first time, although she did have to reach out to nudge him slightly to help break the spell he was under.

"Breathing is important, Riz," she teased softly, not wanting to draw attention from the little dragon that was still before him, but not wanting him to let his excited yet nervous energy affect the dragons, hatched or otherwise. She knew he had been through enough training on how to behave in front of a clutch but he hadn't grown up as a Weyrbrat and this was still very new to him. A few pointers along the way couldn't hurt.

Raelin (High Reaches)

Whatever additional advice she had was cut off by another sound as the first dragonet tumbled out of her egg. Raelin found herself widening her stance ever so slightly out of habit as the anticipation of the moment began to creep upon her. She imagined no matter how many hatchings she went to, dragon or or dragon, it would always be like this: just that bundle of tension ready to snap for better or for worse. She tried to swallow it down.

The little green was very energetic, which made her wary more than endeared. This one could just as easily bite at them as much as bump hands. Still, Raelin gave her a passing smile, a little too slow in sending positive thoughts out. (That was the hardest part for her, really, positive thinking.)

"She's...exciteable, isn't she. Send her some good thoughts," she said to the other candidate, since it was literally on her mind. "It'll help them find theirs faster."

Ielin - HR Candidate

It was a halting process, to suddenly be ripped from his chores. A process he had to grind to a stop when rumors spread like wildfire of a clutch hatching, on Southern Boll of all places! It was one thing to not be present at the touching, another thing to have little to no clue of who the dam was. Having to leave the cleaning of the stockroom to the drudges, fingers scratching through his dark golden hair and beard as he rushes to his cot. Ielin scrubs up the best he can with a dry, clean shirt to be as presentable as possible, scrabbling into the white robes and sandals. Its a brief glance over of himself to make sure he’s presentable before he’s rushed out and thrown a-dragonback. Securing himself barely in time on the blue dragon, the heat displacement Between is a soothing notion from one hot place to another. Only, Southern Boll is blazing hit, the air alive with energy and heat that made his skin start to sweat immediately.

Ielin slips down once they hand, a hurried remark of gratitude thats as gruff and distracted as he rushes to catch up with the gathered candidates. Eyes take in wide at the clutch of brightly ranged eggs, before bowing to the clutchmother--hest he forget his manners. The first had hatched, a green from a pink egg.

Ezyzu - Western Candidate

A surprise clutch! Ezyzu was utterly bouncing as she had rushed to get ready once word had circulated the lower caverns. However, the mention of Southern Boll had her tying up her long, loose red brown curls into a looping bun--a notion she would be happy about as they arrived on the scene on the back of a friendly brown dragon. The sun was blazing even through the white robes, but at least her thick hair was off her neck. The sands felt like fire, yet her attention was focused on the shaking, glorious clutch. With a bright smile to the queen and an affectionate pat to her brown transport, she skittered to join the other candidates.

And she was late! The little pink egg had produced a zippy little green, who Ezyzu tried to keep an eye on as she got to see the clutch for the first time. They were so colorful! With such happy patterns. A wave of glee washed over her at the spotty eggs, feeling a bit of kinship with her own pale spots.

Roana

Laughed lightly at Iathe's reaction and tossed her head back to make her mass of dark red girls bounce. "Iathe with hair like mine I couldn't be subtle even if I wanted to. So I just decided to embrace it." Despite initial frictions Roana had warmed to Iathe quickly, she liked others that could hold their own in a conversation against her. Besides, not everyone was able to deal with he over all demenour and enthusiasm.

However Roana did at least have the where-with-all to look sheepish when Martirae pointed out she was also a western candidate. "Right of course, I've seen you in the brackets. Sorry, I don't think we've really met before though. I joined the weyr just before the last hatching and I was raised in the holds so they still have me in the newbie classes learning the basics and doing...a lot of chores." she sighed the last bit to make it clear that chores were her least favored part of the whole candidate experience.

However everything about being at the weyr had been a steep learning curve for the former sea crafter, even judging where a dragon was about to land to avoid getting crushed under foot, the etiquette to be shown around different rider ranks. It all had to be taught to someone coming from outside.

She might have tried to take further roads into friendship with the new candidate but suddenly everything was happening at once. More eggs started to wobble and rock with the attempts of those inside to get free. From....somewhere there was crack. Like most of the crowd Roana had fallen silent to scan the eggs and try and locate the source of the sound.

Only to then have the pale pink egg burst like a balloon and tumble out a enchanting little green. Who set off like her tail was on fire. Ro raised a brow at the dragon but she had learnt last time that the energy of a dragnet was usually fairly obvious from the moment they hatched, friendly, confused or angry. Dangerous or not (apart from a certain bronze not to be named).

The Green seemed friendly, just a little excitable. Confirmed when she started moving among the candidates just to nuzzle them and receive pats. "Well at least it's a positive start."

Akaris

A dip to not smell? Akaris leveled an amused look at her tall companion, one eyebrow raised. Maybe he would smell by the end of this, since he was a boy, but she would certainly not! Or, on the very slim chance that she did, no one had better mention it. "You might," she started to tease, "But I-"

Then an egg exploded.

Akaris jumped, made what just might have been a squeaking noise that she had no intention of admitting to, and grabbed Rylyrr's hand with both of hers, pressing her face against his arm. Only when there were no telltale sounds of violence did she open one eye to peek at the racing green. It...seemed happy enough, maybe. But had it really needed to scare her like that?!

Talis

"Freeze? Never," she asserted with casual confidence, folding her arms in front of her and eyeing the eggs, a few of which had finally started to move. No, Talis was not in danger of just standing and staring wide-eyed at-

The solid pink egg didn't hatch, it exploded, and the noise and suddenness of it caused her to jerk slightly before she could suppress the reaction entirely. "s**t," she grumbled, watching the green go flying across the sand from candidate to candidate, "Do they usually hatch like that?"

Triton remembered some of his training, and had taken on a stance like some of the others, ready to dodge should he need to. However the little green seemed to be just a friendly little girl, meeting and greeting as she wove through the crowd. He grinned brightly, then was reminded of his thoughts.

//You're a beautiful girl. I know yours is going to be thrilled to meet you. You're doing so good.//

He tried to think those thoughts and project them towards the little green, before asking, "Do they usually explode out of their eggs like that?"

Esfir

Smiling a little shyly at the two men, Esfir bobbed a little curtsy. But before she could introduce herself, Alya was back with another girl and did the introductions herself. Beaming happily, she laughed as Alya introduced herself and Rio as good luck charms.

"Good luck is always welcome," she laughed. "But I hope you're keeping some for yourselves as well."

She kept glancing at Rio, certain that he'd been a candidate at the last Hatching, but not entirely sure how to ask without seeming rude. Instead, she basked quietly in the general friendliness of the little group. And in response to Dorianus' wish, she nodded fervently.

"I'm sure this one won't be like that at all. At least, I hope not. Hatchings should be happy," she ended in a soft mutter."

Fortunately, she was saved from further reflection by a little green hatching out and racing around the sands. And already this Hatching was quite different since this little dragon seemed quite curious and friendly.

Face wreathed in smiles, Esfir turned to her new friends and practically squealed, "Oh, isn't she darling!"

Valineaux

She leapt from foot to foot briskly, robes flustering and too-hot sandals slapping noisily against her skin. How long were they going to be kept waiting? They rattled, they rustled; one cracked and hatched, but the rest remained sealed behind their ostentatiously-colored barriers, deigning not to mix with them. And Valineaux felt like her body was burning — like the meat of her legs began to cook through from the heat.

Much of the buzzing anticipation in the area scattered into nervous conversation as the Candidates invariably broke off into groups. Some stayed within their Weyr affiliations, some struck up conversation with Westerners (but why would you do that, she wondered). She didn't ask, however; it wasn't her business and she didn't give a damn. They all had the same goal so putzing around trying to impress each other didn't do anything for Impressing on the group of eggs in the dead center. But their not-so-little gathering shifted and settled around their reason for being there almost too effortlessly.

Finally Valineaux gave up trying to play calm and patient and noticeably-less-loud. She struck off in a strafe, circumscribing the eggs in her way through all the groups and knits of conversing Candidates, elbowing a few out of her direct path when they needed the extra encouragement, narrowly avoiding outright fights with the temperamental, but she found more of the same. People chatting. People staring at dragon eggs nervously. A few healers off to the side waiting for some dumb Candidate to get themselves bitten in half or some other gruesome disaster. Briefly she wondered if she could excuse covertly taking a few of these Candidates to pasture; Western didn't matter to her and there were way too many Candidates here for Vali to have a comfortable shot at Impressing.

Whatever. Her mood soured ever further. She pushed and shoved and pushed some more, halfway 'round her circle —

until she stopped, dead in her pace, and laid eyes on the first familiar face since leaving High Reaches. "Dorame!" She shouted it from where she stood, despite the pair standing not far from her. She rushed toward the other girl and slung an arm about her shoulders upon reaching her. "Hey, slippery snake. I didn't even see you. Can you believe this, though? A clutch way out here? Didn't think golds came that stupid.

… Oh,"
she added, and her gaze snapped up as if suddenly noticing Dorame's engagements, "who's your friend?"
