Edalla and Green Moilath (Star Flame, First Wave)

Edalla kept her eyes open for any thread that they might be able to scorch from the sky. It was a good thing she did, because she caught notice of one of their wingmates heading for some trouble. She didn't even have to tell Moilath, the green knew what she needed to do.

Please be careful, thread coming in your direction!she called out. If she could save anymore heartache for their wing, then she was going to do it.

Edalla and Green Moilath (Star Flame, First Wave)

Once their wingmate was safe, Edalla went back to looking out for Thread. The more of it they burned down, the less it could hurt others, she reasoned. So when she saw a clump coming near, she had Moilath burn it from the sky, reducing it to ashes.

No more people getting hurt today, Mine. One death is enough,Moilath thought to her rider, who agreed.

Edalla and Green Moilath (Star Flame, First Wave)

As they were feeling like they were helping, they felt the wind start to pick up once more. It was pulling on Moilath and Edalla was doing all she could to encourage her green. She could feel her struggling under her, but then felt a cry of pain.

Moilath, are you okay?she asked the green.

Yeah, I think I will be. Just..a pulled wing muscle. I can continue, Mine. We will massage it when we get down,Moilath assured. She didn't want to let her rider or any of their wing down.

Edalla and Green Moilath (Star Flame, First Wave)

Edalla and Moilath catch a fellow rider in trouble once more, they hope they can be quick enough to help them. Edalla gives the command to blink between, hoping they can spare their wingmates any pain. Moilath popped between and appeared close to their fellow riders. Unfortunately, because of their surprise entrance, the other rider was distracted and they heard the scream of pain as thread hit.

Oh no, Mine. We..we made things worse,Moilath lamented, feeling horrid about that.

Edalla and Green Moilath (Star Flame, First Wave)

Edalla knows her green feels bad for what happened, but since she was sure their wingmate would be fine, she had to keep them on task. Especially when she hears another cry of pain from her beloved, feeling it coming from the wingsail. She orders Moilath to blink between, before the Thread does any damage. When they come back from between, Moilath is flaming as best she can.

It could have been worse, Mine. Like it was for our friends, she said softly.

The Fall continued. To O’dyn it was a test of concentration and endurance; to Ansheth, it had become a matter of flaming, of Betweening, and of marshalling his strength. He tried not to let his past mistakes weigh on him- there was no time for it right now.

He hissed a little as a stray strand caught in his wing, and flickered Between, reappearing to sear it from the skies.

Good work. O’dyn knew not to ask. Besides which, he knew when his dragon was truly hurt, and this was not one of those times.

Don’t lose your fighting spirits! Thread cannot endure our never-ending flame! The thought did not bother Ansheth in the least.

Altitude Change! Hour 2, Round 1 Beings!

High Altitude Wing: Fire Storm
Mid Altitude Wing: Flame's Fury
Low Altitude Wing: Star Flame

Hour: 1100

Location: West of SunDust Hold, and approaching the more fertile land north-northeast of Western Hold. There are many smaller holds that use this land to raise herdbeasts, draybeasts, and lots of good farm land. There are also many small desert caravans from SunDust that stop here and trade. Any Thread that slips through might well cripple the land if it burrows, and has the potential to kill innocents below--especially as some of those caravans and smaller holds weren't built with Threadfall in mind.

Even Turns later, not all minor Holds have or had the means to rebuild with stone.

Conditions: Rukbat is shining bright and that means conditions are starting to get worse as warm moist air is pulled north from the approaching low. Convection is possible, though it's likely they'll move on well before any storms build up. Unfortunately, that means clouds might form rapidly and upset riders visibility. Be alert! Winds are still heavy and rough!

- - - -

On top of keeping tabs on his Wing, R'mor was still being fed periodic updates from Junenth. Things were just not going well. They'd already lost a bronzerider--an ex-Wingleader at that!--and they still had hours left to fight. Dragons were literally falling from the sky. On the one hand, he couldn't blame his dragonriders--they were fighting as damn well they could in miserable conditions. On the other hand, if he could find something they were lacking, something they were doing wrong, he could fix it! But there was nothing he could do to bring back the dead and the wounded; nothing he could say that would make any of this right.

Harper's glorified Threadfall. Stories of riders valiantly sacrificing their lives for the innocent of Pern; riders who met the enemy bravely, boldly, and heroes who made it out of harms way when things got rough... But it was all lies. There were men, women, half-grown youth putting their lives on the line. They were hurting, they were dying, and he couldn't stop it. No amount of leadership could stop the wind from blowing, or Thread from falling... All they could do was hope for the best, and prepare for the worst.

And today, it seemed like all of them were completely unprepared.

Junenth rumbled warning. The hour draws near, Mine. R'mor felt Junenth twist and hiss as Thread fell latched onto his wingsail. The pain reminded R'mor that he could not be consumed by the updates; he could think about them later. Junenth and he weren't out of the fray yet, after all. The bronze took a jump Between and appeared higher up, and slightly ahead. Though his wingsail sported new holes and frayed edges, they were still doing relatively well.

Relay this to the Wings... All of them. He instructed.

Junenth did has he was bad.
Riders of Western Weyr! Keep fighting, though the winds are as much our enemy as the silver Threads. Though it is a heavy burden, focus on the moment, on the now; though we grieve, though we have suffered terrible loss, the fight is only the beginning! The Enemy is upon us and we will not let those who have fallen die in vain! We will strike Thread down more fiercely; we will burn it to ash and light the skies up with our fire! We will not back down, we will not give up, we will not surrender this day to the wicked Threads that threaten our loved ones and Pern! Keep fighting, though it is hard. We will overcome this battle! We WILL persevere!

And with that, the Weyrleader gave the signal for wings to change their altitudes, and carry on the fight.

Their reemergence in their wing is met with a loud trumpet by Menyherth. It felt right to be back at the helm, fighting with their wingmates instead of clomping at the bit down in the Queen's Wing. But the changeover is met with a rapidly descending clump of thread, and upon spotting it, the pair snapped between to reappear above it. It torched to harmless ash with the lick of Menyherth's flames, and the dragon turned to take another mouthful of firestone with a fierce determination.

Something doesn't feel right. You wind up glancing over your shoulder just in time to see a small, silver strand drifting dangerously close to your dragon. Thankfully, your dragon shares your thoughts, and is able to blink Between and higher above their position, missing the strand, and saving yourself from a score. [+1 Instinct]
