Ky'ra and Gold Zultoloth

... Ouch! Against all odds, a big tangle of thread had made its way through the wings, and although Ky'ra tried to flame it from the sky, they weren't able to get it in time. As it struck and twisted into Zultoloth's neck and back, the queen squealed in terrible pain. Her rider could not scream, but sent them between.

It was a toss-up to what startled the pair more -- the roar of a flamethrower overhead of them, or the hard beat of wings and bearing presence of Susurinth. Khamaith barked at the commanding pressure, shaking her head slightly as she wanted to fight against it -- there was so much left of the fall to fight! Yet her eye ran with a fearful yellow, dripping with a pained grey. That last clump to land on her had made her ache once more, past the redwort and numbweed patched.

But overall, her great mother had a point.

She could feel Ezyzu's pain, exhaustion, fear -- how many times her sweetest girl had pushed back tears to brave face this fall. The compulsion to obey was a hard pressure in her head -- at the very least, to be attended to once more.

Y-- yes mother. The young gold stammered slightly, even with a reassuring, hard pat from her rider -- and the pair winked Between back to Western Weyr.

With her focus being on Khamaith until the very moment that she hopped Between to return down to the Weyr Bowl, Susurinth had been watching and relying on Pavari to watch as well, but it had only been watching for thread. A gust blew the small queen over, well back past where she had been, out of formation as it was anyway. Her wings beat downward forcefully, trying to use the frustration of attempting to return to her place in the line as a cover for the sinking pain and self deprecation that was befalling her currently.

Khamaith would likely never forgive her for that, the sadness and fear, the pain in her young one's voice. Had she seen those before, since that day on the sands what seemed like such a short time ago?

Focus my love, you can apologize later to her. It's Khamaith, I'm sure she won't hate you forever. Pavari offered gently, a surge of love to her dragon as they forced their way back into position once more, this time much more subdued.

They reappeared without any fanfare, no trumpet from Khamaith. The young gold was quiet since they'd been forced back, her eyes reflecting the internal negative thoughts that dripped from the tired, sad queen. Threadfall wasn't even half over, and yet the fight was draining from her. Numb wounds and a mild check on Baihath had done her some good, however her wings beat a bit slower, turned a little less gracefully than she usually didn't quite have.

The large clump that was falling down to the queen's wing didn't, frankly, care.

As they moved into position, Ezyzu raised the muzzle, and --

CLICK.

This time tears sprang instantly to Ezyzu's eyes as panic flooded once more, echoed by Khamaith -- and the clump was upon them. Khamaith's scream was echoed by her rider's, snapping Between once more.

1-5. This clump of thread had its eye on you. It defied all the odds and made it through not one, but three wings of dragon riders actively fighting above! It's up to you to flame it! If a Queen, your dragon puts you in position, and as you go to flame it down, you find your equipment's jammed! By the time you realize what's going on, the thread is on you, your arm, your legs, your dragon's neck back, and side. It has attached, and immediately starts to feast! Major Damage -15 HP if a Queen. plus Painful status for the next 3 turns. This will negate any XP gained, and cause double damage if the prompt includes damage (or has you roll for damage).

Her hearts nearly broke in half at the scream of pain. She knew that to send her daughter to the healers again would be pointless, she wouldn't go. She almost hadn't gone the first time and she was a grown gold dragon with a rank exactly the same as Susurinth's own. Maybe even higher given Ezyzu's long time at the Weyr.

But to hear her scream. Gray flooded through the slim gold's eyes until that was the only color there was, stalwartly doing her duty as Pavari flooded her with comfort and resolve.

It hurt. It hurt so bad.

Coming out of Between, a shudder ran through Khamaith's form as Ezyzu set to unjamming her (cursed? tampered with?) flamethrower once more, before making a hasty swipe under her goggles at the tears that had fallen. There was ash smeared on her face, yet she couldn't be bothered to care.

A small sliver of thread, coasting on the breeze, snuck up and ghosted across her chest. Yet it could only add to her building pain, and wordlessly she jumped Between and back again. What was more more ding on her full body hurts?

31-34. A sliver of Thread that slipped through the Wings above winds up catching your dragon It burns, but it's not going to stop you from carrying on! [+1 Pain Resilience]

Shake it off, shake off the feeling. She had to or she'd forever be blaming herself for things out of her own control. Susurinth instead dove down after some thread, attempting to distract herself by at least doing her duty, but just as before when she'd tried, it tangled with her front limbs. She made no noise, though it hurt. She gave no sign of distress, though she ached.

Silently she seized the image that Pavari gave her and hopped Between.

Pemli and Gold Ningesth (Queen's Wing, Full Flight)

Pemli could feel Ningesth getting restless again, as it seemed to get quiet around them. She knew this was not good, but despite her trying to calm her, the gold wanted to be doing more.

There should be more to do, more Thread for us to burn, the golden dragon grumped.

I know, but it just means the wings above us are doing well. Please, focus, or we could miss something, the girl pleaded her dragon. Somehow she felt her gold would have to learn the hard way.

Queen's Wing (Hour 1/Round 1)
1) 37. 35-40. You want to do more. You want to be more. You're frustrated by the lack of action down in the lower wings, though you do now it's a very important role. You fidget in your riding straps. If this is the 3rd time you roll this in the game you now suffer 3 turns of Antsy You are too eager to get out there and fight. Any successful flaming down of Thread yields double XP but also causes can extra Moderate Damage -3 HP. In your hurry to flame Thread you make rookie errors, such as flying into the ash cloud, flying into your fellow wingmates space and getting burned, over-reaching and pulling a muscle, not sitting right in your straps and getting whipped around, etc. (only first time)
2) 86. 85-89. A tangle of Thread manages to slip through! Though you try to get it, you're not fast enough, or aim was way off base. Though it doesn't hurt you and your dragon, you do watch as it makes it through the last line of defense, to fall upon the helpless world below. Crops, plants, animals, and even possibly people are now in danger... you can only hope the ground crews will find the burrow safely once Thread is through. If this is your fourth time rolling this status, you start feeling Guilt [Take 3 Turns of Guilt! Any Damage rolled takes an additional -4 HP. Any successful bonuses by other players don't affect your character. You just don't deserve it.] (only first time)
3) 7. 6-15. You see a stray strand writhe out of the corner of your eye. Your rider quickly twists in her seat, and catches the errant strand with a well-timed aim of their flamethrower! +1 Target Accuracy
4) 30. 26-30. As you're looking for the rogue Thread, you notice one of your wingmates in danger. You and your dragon call out warning and are lucky to see the pair respond. Quote a Wingmate and have all damage removed from their most recent roll!
5) 13. 6-15. You see a stray strand writhe out of the corner of your eye. Your rider quickly twists in her seat, and catches the errant strand with a well-timed aim of their flamethrower! +1 Target Accuracy

Queen's Wing (Hour 1/Round 2)
1) 100. 98-100. Another gust wind blows, sending some silvery strands of Thread your way! Your dragon manages to twist their way through it with surprising and relative ease, and you're able to even flame down some of the fray! [+1 Agility // +1 Target Accuracy]
2) 59. 55-59. You dive for a clump of Thread, and successfully find yourself turning it into harmless ash. +1 Target Accuracy
3) 71. 70-74. As you're burning down a clump of Thread, something doesn't seem right.
With a sudden shout and twist, your dragon lurches to the side, as a shaffing bag of firestone comes hurdling down. Damnit! What on Pern are they doing up there!?! Amateurs! +1 Instinct

4) 29. 26-30. As you're looking for the rogue Thread, you notice one of your wingmates in danger. You and your dragon call out warning and are lucky to see the pair respond. Quote a Wingmate and have all damage removed from their most recent roll!

1. Success! Your dragon successfully recovers, and keeps in formation. [+1 Stamina]

3) 99. 98-100. Another gust wind blows, sending some silvery strands of Thread your way! Your dragon manages to twist their way through it with surprising and relative ease, and you're able to even flame down some of the fray! [+1 Agility // +1 Target Accuracy]
4) 21. 21-25. Well, not much is happening. Either the Wings are doing their job, or things are mighty quiet. You know your thoughts shouldn't wander or stray.... but you look away for a moment, stretching your neck, and resettling yourself on your dragons back. Unfortunately, things happen quickly. Your dragon lets out a shriek of pain as you're hit with Thread! You hadn't seen it fall from behind, too far back from where your dragon could see. Roll a D4 for Damage!
4. It's nothing but a flesh wound! In fact, your dragon was able to pop Between swiftly, so the damage is, quite frankly, nothing more than a graze. Minor Damage: -1 HP

Pemli was trying to keep her eyes open, in case some Thread came their way. Her neck was starting to hurt a little from all the looking around, but she knew she had to make sure nothing would sneak up on them. Your dragon lets out a shriek of pain as you're hit with Thread! You hadn't seen it fall from behind, too far back from where your dragon could see. Roll a D4 for Damage!

2) 45. 45-50. You keep looking up, but nothing seems to be heading your way. Your neck is starting to object, but it doesn't matter. You must be ever vigilant, or so the saying goes. Pemli and Gold Ningesth (Queen's Wing, Full Flight)

If Ningesth thought it was too quiet, then she didn't have to wait long for some action. A clump of Thread appeared, somehow getting passed all three wings fighting above them. Well, it looked like it was up to them to make sure that it didn't slip away. So Pemli directed her gold in that direction, as she readied her flamethrower. Unfortunately, as she went to pull the trigger, it jammed on her. She couldn't do anything as it descended on the pair of them, a cry of pain echoing from both rider and dragon alike.

I am taking us to the healer's,Ningesth spoke firmly, feeling horrid that her overzealous had gotten her rider hurt. So she blinked between, to get rid of the horrid Thread that latched on them. Then came back, for a moment, both of them still in a lot of pain. With word to their wingleader, they blinked back out of sight to head to the healers.

(next roll or two at Weyrbowl/Healers)
