Nim felt a deep sense of responsibility for all the wing so when they lost one of their own. One of the few other female brown riders even, it hit her like a gut punch. Probably why she was not as focused as she should have been. Not on her game. Neither of them were.

They missed the order and as they followed the previous pattern they made a horriable mistake.

Mharlith cried out in horror as he realised what had happened.

Nachith! No!

Wingsecond Roll!

Quote:
6-23. There's a lot of chaos going on. Focusing on fighting Thread and getting updates with what's happening to your Wing leads to a moments inattentiveness. If a Wingleader you lead your entire wing out of formation, which puts them right into worsening wind shear! Though you are quick to right this mistake, the damage is done. Quote 3 Wingmates and have them lose -5 HP apiece! If a Wingsecond you wind up missing your Wingleaders command to change formation. Instead, as you come out of Between flaming, you find yourself flaming down one of your wingmates instead! Quote a Single Wingmate and have them lose -5 HP!

The pair reappeared and quickly took up position among the wing. What hurt now, today, would be worse tomorrow, but they would be alive. In an ideal world, they would fly the rest of Fall without more scoring. This, however, was not the ideal world of fantasy. There was work to be done, and they;d do it.

They winked out of sight for just a second to crack off the short length of Thread that had attached itself to Kaloth's wing. They were back inside a breath, already aiming flame at the place where hey'd seen a clump of Thread--

And narrowly missed setting Erzebuth and G;ran alight instead,..

roll two: This is bad. Very bad. One of your wingmates appears out of Between flaming, but instead of catching a nearby target, they catch you instead. Your dragon roars in pain, blinking hastily Between! Just how bad is the damage? Roll a D4!

1. It's bad. Very bad. In fact, coming back into the fray, your realize your dragon slips unconscious from the pain and falls from place! Post this to ensure a queen catches you!

If there are no active Queen Rider's able to make a saving roll, or you simply don't want to RP it out, feel free NOT to post the above prompt. Instead, simply say one of the NPC queens catches you, and is able to drop you and your dragon off successfully at the Weyr for Healing. This is an automatic KO. Your dragon is going to need some major healing. They will not return to the fight. This roll can also be a death roll if you wish it, with neither rider or dragon coming out of Between or the dragon perishing later.

A Queen Is Needed! Help Catch Me!

Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.

    And fall they did.

It wasn't the fault of rider or dragon, but that wouldn't be how T'en would remember it. One second they were laughing over their job well done, and the next his head was full of screaming, wailing, frantic confusion. There was pain everywhere even though his own body remained almost completely unscathed.

He pulled Rixth's attention to him as hard as he could, directing the bronze Between and back, and then they were plummeting quickly, T'en left alone in his head as his dragon fell unconscious.

As they dipped Between to return to their position, and found themselves confronted with an enormous sheet of Thread once they reemerged. G'ran felt his stomach drop, felt Elzebuth's alarm--and focused on a position, directing Elzebuth back into the icy blackness of Between. They popped back into open air, blessedly free of Thread. G'ran exhaled noisily with relief, patting Elzebuth's neck.

4. With some fancy wing maneuvering, and a quick roll, you manage to get out of the way successfully! You're not happy about the close call, but at least you and your dragon can carry on!

A wingmate suddenly appeared beside them, their dragon's maw gaping as they belched forth flames. G'ran went still with shock, stunned as the fire threatened to consume both him and Elzebuth.... and suddenly, they were dropping. Elzebuth had folded his wings, plummeting in order to avoid the danger. A hard roll to the left got them fully clear, and G'ran felt his temper surge despite it all. They could have been sharding killed!

But we weren't. Elzebuth was hardly pleased, but did what he could to soothe his rider. Now wasn't the time to focus on accidents.

Z'rai and Kaloth would be shot a hard look, but G'ran kept his mouth shut. His heart was still pounding, and the urge to knock their heads together was more of a defense mechanism than anything. They were fine. Had a good fright, but fine.

Elzebuth was still thinking about the close call while chewing his firestone--so much so that he didn't pay enough attention as he should have and bit down hard on his own tongue. G'ran felt the dragon's sudden jerk, reaching out to him with worry. The big brown offered wordless reassurance.... and grumbling. What a foolish mistake!

Hour 1, Round 2:
1. +1 Instinct

By the time they realized what was happening, what they had done, it was too late. In the blink of an eye, Lireloth had jumped Between, and all they could do was wait in agony, desperately hoping with everything they had that the other pair would reappear, that...that....anything but that they were gone. But they were gone. Forever. Guilt and shame - the only shame Nachith had felt in his entire life - washed over them both, and a ragged keen tore from Nachith's throat. No...it couldn't be...!

Lireloth, the blue creeled, as though somewhere beyond, his wingmate might hear him. Lireloth, I am sorry...I am so, so sorry.... But there was no sorrow in all the world, no matter how deep, that could bring the brown and his rider back from where they had gone.

B'ram couldn't even process it: the shock, the guilt, it was all too much. Just too much. How could they even... Nachith, though he hated to do it, had to give him a mental smack when the command came to change formation. Shaken to their cores and numb with shock, they followed orders, but someone else had missed the command. As they took up their new position, they found themselves caught in Mharlith's flame.

Nachith cried out in pain and they darted Between to cool the burns, but unlike Lireloth and His, they returned. The blue had not a word or even thought for the brown wingsecond. No, he deserved this. This, and more. It was hard to push past it, to continue fighting, but they had to. Though everything hurt, one every level, Nachith dove after a clump of Thread, and even had it in him to twist out of the way before the wind could blow it back at them.

Hour 1, Round 2:
1. +1 Instinct
2. +1 Target Accuracy

Nachith had never really liked browns. They just didn't fit quite right in his view of the world, sitting in their weird middle ground; they weren't metallic, and to his mind had no business fraternizing with the golds and bronzes, but they didn't really belong with the blues and greens, either, and that had always bothered him immensely, especially when they were given authority. But he'd never wanted to hurt one, let alone...let alone....

The blue creeled pitifully to himself even as he forced himself and His to keep fighting. How could he, how could he have done such a terrible thing? Just because Lireloth had been brown didn't mean he'd deserved to die. Oh, what had he done?

Though he was far from being in a good position, mentally, to offer anyone encouragement, he reached tentatively toward a brown not far from him in formation, and who'd jsut enarly been flamed himself. Elzebuth, a...are you well? That looked very close.

Nim took her hands from her straps for a instant and gave her cheeks a quick slap. Come on girl. Get your head back in the game. She scolded herself. She was here to support her wing.

Both riders and dragons. With that in mind she did a quick circle. Mharlith catching a few streams of thread in flame while bulging encouragement for those that faltered.
