Narcis merely nodded. His gaze was thoughtful as he stared ahead. "Joshua," he said finally. "I don't want to have to bring Sorry home the news that her brother is dead. But if we do..." He trailed off, shook his head. Whatever thought he'd been trying to get across remained unspoken - perhaps Narcis just didn't know how to phrase it.
Losing Nezik, he knew, would devastate Katalina completely - especially after the blow her father had delivered when she'd visited the clan with Joshua. A blow Narcis still had not forgiven the man. For the sake of Katalina's sanity, he had to find her brother...but he didn't know how to explain all this to Joshua, especially because he didn't know how much the human had been told.
After a few minutes of silence, he murmured mildly, "So, how much farther is it?"

 Joshua's face hardened. "We won't bring her that news. We'll find Nezik. Alive." His voice was harsh. He would do whatever he needed to. Somehow, he doubted that Katalina would fare well if she were told that. He let it lapse into silence. Shoving his way through a patch of large ferns, he answered the siren's question. "It's not too much farther. People usually don't come out this way though because there's a set of nasty cliffs right over there." He gestured off towards the beach. "Few people know about the cove because the cliffs scare them off."

Aoife dove in the water. She left to the water on her own she liked this secluded cove. It had a sense that things weren't near as big as the truely were.

Narcis merely nodded, hiding a small, satisfied smile. He had been hoping for a response like that. This human, however young he seemed, was most likely trustworthy. Sorry, he thought, you chose better than you knew.
"So if we approach from that side, will the humans not wonder where we came from?" he inquired, curious and a little worried about that. If they could not at least somewhat blend in, their rescue would be effectively over before it began. Then another thought occurred to him. "Joshua, how exactly do we intend to get Nezik out?"
It wasn't as though carrying the boy out was an option, but there had to be some way.

"Hikers often come out a little ways. None come very far, nor ever pass the cliffs, but it's nothing unusual for people to come from this side. Besides, some of the people on this edge of the city know me. Course they think I'm crazy, but that's not the point." Joshua could hear the noise of the city up ahead. It really wasn't much farther as he'd said.
"Nezik is younger than Katalina right? That means he's not old enough to change." He went silent for a moment, thinking about the issue. How in the world were they going to steal something like Nezik? 'He's sure to be well guarded.' He sighed, coming to a conclusion. "I don't know how to get him out. It all depends on where he's being held. That is what we have to find out first."

Lucian was sitting on a bench and watching people pass. Several school girls greeted him, “Hi Lucian…” then they scurried away giggling. Lucian looked up and stared at them, a small smile on his lips. He likes being nice to girls…they make him things, like sweets. Lucian reached into his bag and frowned. He quickly looked down and to his shock…it was empty. He jumped up on the bench and grabbed his hair, yelling, “NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!...” Of course the town’s people stopped and stared at him again. Some class mates of his just laughed and shook their heads, they were used to his outburst. It was what made him popular in school.

Narcis gritted his teeth slightly. "That's what I thought you'd say," he replied. "Yes, Nezik is younger than Sorry. A male's age of change comes earlier than a female's, but Nezik is still too young."
He went silent for a moment, then said quietly, "Joshua, I am not worried about stealing him back, precisely." His voice was deadly cold. "I will do whatever it takes to get him back alive. If that means killing the humans guarding him, so be it. What I wish to know is how we intend to get him back through the city, up the cliffs and home to the cove."

"I know." Joshua whispered. He knew Narcis would kill the humans if needed. And he wouldn't do anything to stop the siren. Joshua paused at the edge of the trees. Just a tiny bit more and they'd be in the city. 'It's probably a good idea to thrash this out before we head in.'
He sighed, running a hand through his pale hair. "How long can he survive out of water? I think that'll be the key point in this. Time is key to everything." He thought for a moment. "Would Nezik be able to take a fall from the cliffs? If he can, that cuts down what we need to do. We would just have to get him out to the cliffs. Once he's out in the ocean, he can find a hiding spot or we can send him back to Katalina."

"Well," said Narcis calmly, "we're built to breathe air after a fashion - it's why we can take the human form, because we're amphibious. He's used to breathing it dissolved in water, but he should be able to survive at least ten, fifteen minutes out of water, more if he doesn't panic. Tossing him from the cliffs depends on if there are rocks at the bottom - he would need at least as much clearance as a human to safely dive from there."
When Joshua mentioned what would happen after, Narcis shook his head decisively. "No. If he was caught by humans at all, Joshua, that means he didn't even make it a full ten yards from the caverns before something went wrong. If we are going to throw him in at the cliffs, I'll have to change back to normal and go with him."
He looked wryly at Joshua. "Which would leave you on your own."

Joshua nodded, taking in this new info. "I'd be fine on my own." He dismissed his own safety as if it wasn't important. "Alright. It's deep at the cliff's base, but the waters are fairly turbulent. It's why people stay away. We aren't strong enough to deal with them. Even boats have issues. But you and Nezik should be okay." 'So that gives us about ten or fifteen minutes to get from where he is to the cliffs. Once we're there, home free.'
Joshua stared ahead blankly, his mind running overtime. Various ideas and situations were running through his mind. "Once we get Nezik-" He left no room for the idea of failure. "To get to the cliffs....That is our issue. How strong are you? How much does Nezik weigh? Can you run with him?" The teen was in full planning mode, mapping out everything.

Narcis shrugged. "I could probably carry you easily," he replied, answering the questions as they came. "He wouldn't weigh much more than you normally, but out here on land, he'll be deadweight. That'll make him heavier. I should be able to handle him, but I have to point out that if we include the tail, he's probably going to be longer than I am tall. We'll have to find a way to keep the tail out of the way - I can't afford to trip over him."
He dismissed the idea of turbulence at the cliff foot - he had been born and raised in the waters of the rapids around the Sirens' cave. Turbulence didn't worry him, and if Nezik had problems he could help the boy. The problem was getting from point A to point B without either being caught or being killed.

"Alright." So far, Joshua had most of it planned out. 'To get to Nezik from here should be easy and from the cliffs to the waters is nothing. It's just that middle part of Nezik to cliffs.' He leaned against a tree, trying to think things through. They would have to move fast, that was for sure. They would have to hike their way out there. 'Wait..Hike...' Joshua's eyes lit up as he got an idea. "A hiking pack! That's what we need! They're big, strong, and could conceal Nezik. Have you see hiking packs before?" He glanced at Narcis. He was unsure of how much time the siren had spent in the human world.
