A final hop, a final flame. Was that it? The blue couldn't be more happy about it. That poor green...E'dan's calming hand buoyed him against the sadness. At least it had been just the one...this time.

The pair cruised along. Both rider and dragon keeping an eye out in all directions. Ly'bur happened to notice a small clump of Thread as it drifted down from the higher altitude unscathed. Get it Hinburath! The brown roared and swept his wings as he powered up to toast the clump into ash. Bravo!

The bronze dragon fought his way through the wind. Though his wings objected, he ignored the pain. He would fight through this, he would persevere. Not much longer, Kindeth. We've got this. And then they could return to A'ye, and Oyath, and find Peresa, and give her the biggest, damn, hug. Nothing could stop them now.

The end was near, Kindeth could feel it. Thread seemed to be lighter, with less of a thread to be had. S'del wanted to breathe a sigh of relief, but he knew it wasn't over, until it was over.

Despite his burns, he was feeling a fine fettle of fish. Hinburath was doing what he was born and bred to do! There could be no greater pride for a dragon than this. He chewed the stone his rider gave him, then flamed any Thread in the skies around him, protecting the fields, forest, land, and people below. He was a born and bred High Reaches Dragon!

Flying slowly, M'aze and Zeath were taking their time and moving along steadily when a keen rose up from below. A pang of loss filled Zeath's mind and flooded into M'aze, both of whom looked down in time to see Zurath and a broken Cheza. flying for just a few moments more before jumping Between. A new sense of loss filled the normally jovial pair and they flew in silence and shock, not at all paying attention what was going on around them.
Zurath and Cheza Zeath said weakly, his eyes grey in sadness and exhaustion. The loss weighed heavily on dragon and rider, further effecting their fatigue, when a voice called out to the pair. Looking over, Zeath spotted Hinburath as he tried to rouse him.
"He's right, Zeath," M'aze said even though his voice was heavy. He'd definitely be needing a drink or two after this flight. "We must fight on for their sake. Just as we'd want our wingmates to fight on for us. For now we must protect Pern. We can mourn when we're back on the ground."
Giving a sigh but lifting his head again, Zeath beat his wings and shook off the exhaustion creeping into his limbs. Just a bit longer for Cheza and Zurath. He could do it. Just as the resolve filled him with enough energy to continue a sheet of Thread fell towards them from overhead. They blinked Between, reappearing above the mess that was falling, but felt the delayed burn of Thread on both of their shoulders. Just a moment too late to dodge any damage, it seemed.
Once again, another gust threatened to blow the large bronze out of formation or into nearby Thread. Nevertheless, he persevered. All the bronze was thinking about was home. Back to familiar faces, back to comforting hands, back to cuddling, and snuggling, and happy conversation. None of this fighting, none of this hurting. Nothing but goodness, happiness, and being surrounded by loved ones.
So Kindeth fought. No wind would bring him down. Even though his face hurt, and his eye wasn't functioning well, he wasn't going to let Thread get the best of him or his rider!

... And if you're not sure? About your feelings, or theirs? Do you... try all of that, anyway? Cynosuth wasn't sure where her hearts were. They beat for Aresoth, true, but he did not seem to return her regard, not as she might hope. It hurt so much to know that he didn't love her back. But perhaps... perhaps she might at least try. Maybe... I don't know. Maybe? Could there be someone? Maybe someones?

"All right?" M'aze asked Zeath, both of whom were bleeding freely once more but not badly enough to warrant returning early. Zeath responded by sending a warm sensation through M'aze's mind, letting him know that yes, physically he could continue. That warm feeling turned to one of warning and together they turned in time to see the Thread coming for them. A quick moment Between and they returned, this time hitting their mark and Flaming the offending danger to bits.

This was what they were going to talk about in the midst of all this? C'lusi would have laughed if he wasn't suddenly nervous. Macuith and him had to go aid another rider with firestone... .balls.
Macuith, of course, didn't seem at all upset. There's nothing wrong with at least trying to flirt. If you're not sure about your feelings, you can at least give it a little go, and see how you feel. You'll know quick if you like them like that, or not. And you could always flirt with a bunch, but not settle right away, either. It's called playing the field, and I have it on good authority that it's totally okay to do! Why wait for them to make a move when you can do it yourself? Besides, a little flirting never hurt anyone. It's not like you're asking them to be weyrmates or anything.
While all this went on, Clusi did manage to successfully toss the sack of stone to the rider. He even got a little salute out of it, which brightened him up considerably.
You're young, Cynosuth. You're gorgeous. You will have no problem finding a man to wrap around your little claw.

They were on a roll! Hinburath felt he had the wind mastered now as he flew along. His flame was hot and to the point with any Thread it met. As he finished flaming a piece of Thread, he noticed a wingmate in peril. Hinburath half folded his wings in to loop through a baggy wrinkle in the wind, bringing him just into position to flame the errant Thread before it could harm rider or dragon.
Nice moves! If only our wingleader could see that one. Ly'bur was maybe a touch smug. We saw it, that is enough for me. Maybe.

As intense as the higher altitudes were, down here it was all in the details. Although they missed one strand and sent it down, another wriggled its way towards them and landed on Zeath's head just as he spotted it out of the corner of his eye. Thankfully they jumped Between so quickly it barely stung and they were back in action a moment later.

Reaching for more firestone as Zeath seemed to be flagging a bit in length, M'aze found that one of the bits of Thread had eaten through the bottom of the bag, letting most of it fall out. He groaned softly but flagged down an older semi-retired rider to take a bit more stone, not even bothering to put any in the ruined bag. They were nearly done, this would see them through.
