Rumble all you want. She hadn't wished death on the baby, she hadn't wished death on anything. If the dragonet was gathering her thoughts and taking them personally than what was she to do? Drop on her hands and knees and apologize to something that hasn't even shown itself yet? And why would her thoughts matter when the sands were FULL of people head over heels THROWING themselves with concern at the dragonet? Clearly the priorities here were wrong, so very wrong.

Rumble all you'd like, she'd done nothing wrong.

But yet, she needed to keep Arlie safe. Let a dragon or dragonet come for her, it mattered not - threats were threats and her body meant little if she could achieve her goals. But Arlie....needed to be safe, and so her thoughts shifted just a little bit.

It's fine. She seemed to think, to nothing in general. Just not the dragonet for her, clearly it was too precious for someone of her...tastes, and therefore would be better suited to someone more loving. Way, way more loving. It was such a wonderful dragonet, it just needed time and things Haveli didn't have patience for, but someone on the sands by all accounts had to.

There, was that enough?

The rumbled warning from the large brown father looming over the eggs made Shar narrow her eyes and glance over at the other Candidates. She knew no one around her was causing issues so it must be someone from the other side of the sands. If she could pick out who it was she'd make sure to give them what-for if the parents of Hufflepuff didn't - although she'd wait until after the Touching.

Focusing on Hufflepuff once more, she closed her eyes and let her irritation at whatever Candidates were bothering the little dragon flood away from her and she pushed all of her warm, reassuring thoughts towards the baby.

Don't let them bother you, little one. Feel how many of us are excited to meet you and focus on that. Those that hurt you aren't worth your time or your attention. There are plenty of Candidates here that would be more than overjoyed to welcome you properly.

A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes was quite confused. For a moment she heard someone approach; then she felt her leg get sniffed, then licked, and then quite suddenly everything happened at once! Her egg was split, a green face hwonked her face into her shell...

But she had been turned in such an awkward manner that she could no longer hold herself up. The shell was broken. For a long moment, there was the sound of a crack, and the egg slowly began to spread... Uh-oh! Giving a startled honk the green dragon rolled right onto Felix Felicis, the other's close proximity at least breaking her roll.

Whoops.

But at least she was out of her shell fully. She peeped apologetically, perhaps a bit mournfully, to her cousin. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!

Kronoseth
The brown dragon simply crooned encouragingly at the little Hufflepuff. There, there... Do you want to find Yours yet? Do you want to look at the Candidates? Or do you just want to cuddle, sweet one? He was in no rush to leave the baby's side.

There was a sudden wobble from a Mystery Egg One. The large egg was primarily green and red, and had been relatively quiet. But something in it was definitely beginning to stir.

Saekagi

Something seemed to be going on, something kept upsetting that shy little egg with it's curiously glimmering brown claws (which might be egg, he'd heard someone say and they might be right...) but he couldn't immediately see. No one looked like they were doing anything wr...

Except they were supposed to be positive or something weren't they? Even when someone was being chewed apart, (he didn't know to this hour how that worked.)... so maybe it was his fault? Faranth he hoped it wasn't his fault... sorry dragon... he couldn't help it, he was just... bad at this.

Talis
Talis nodded agreement to her companion's assessment of the hatchlings' temperaments. "They've gotten off to a pretty good start, at least-" If there would have been more to that statement, it was cut of by a grimace as Hufflepuff squeaked and its mother rumbled a warning. "Well, they have. Apparently not all of us have." Of course, that in and of itself probably qualified as a negative thought, and she shifted her gaze over to the other goings-on to shake that thought loose before it became a preoccupation. "Looks like someone's having a bit of trouble there...oh, there it goes!"

Another green! They had greens, bronzes, a maybe-metallic or maybe-brown, but there was a distinct lack of blues so far.

Tarnaria

As the babies moved about, Tarnaria became more aware of the people around her. It was like the world had shifted focus and she could suddenly see the forest the trees were in. It wasn't overwhelming, not by a long shot, but it was still interesting. She smiled as she turned to Sulamol, nodding as he spoke, "They'll surely lead entire wings one day, protecting everybody!" She looked back to the sands, still smiling.

She was startled, though, by Dhawsn, looking at him with surprise. He was so enthusiastic! It was rather infectious, and she gave a little clap, if partially attempted.

Sinders Path

Lady Grey

All contemplations ceased as Lady Grey's attention was jarred away from the people in the stands and back to the sands. She wondered for a moment who was yelling, and spied at first Sulamol. Ruggedly handsome, she thought. But no, that wasn't the source of the yelling. It was then that she noticed Dhawsn, being loud and unbecoming of what Jacomus had told her a candidate was supposed to be. She rolled her eyes just a bit, shaking her head. And here she was told High Reaches had STANDARDS...

Nemo of Green Lokith

Better late than never, right? A small green appeared out of between, eyes swirling many shades of blue, green, and purple. She let out a bugle of excitement, sinking down into the caldera to land on the ledge outside the hatching rounds. We've nearly missed them hatching!

"Yes, I know, I know..." Nemo reached behind himself, patting Lokith on her side. When the dragon settled, he began to undo the flight straps. "Now Peku, remember what I said. Stay close, don't wander off, and for the love of Faranth, don't go out on the Sands! I just need to go find Lady Grey and let her know Pekoe couldn't make it, and then we'll find a good seat, up high where you can see well from!" Maybe they'd find Jacomus, and the pirate could provide extra height for the child.

Hurry hurry, I want to see! I want to go see the babies! Impatiently, Lokith turned and looked at Nemo and Peku. She didn't otherwise rush them, though, just rumbled with anticipation.

Veltanna, had she known what pompoms were, would have been waving them. Go little ones, go! She carefully did not think about that one and worried a little for the yellow and black striped egg. But they had a papa with them so she wasn’t too worried. She knew there were a lot of people for the dragons to go through to find theirs (even if they seemed more interested in each other right then) and hoped everyone found theirs easily

Rylyrr

"I'm not sure." Rylyrr admitted, looking at Rhianth who was giving a deep threatening rumble. He looked concern at Hufflepuff who was still hiding next to their parents. Something was up.

The second little green had made it out of her shell safely. She was on her feet and looked perhaps apologetic but not hiding. A rather cute little green. He looked at hufflepuff concern, hoping the little dragon was alright.

FISHER

Fisher was...despite the rumbles and everything else on the sands (and the kid on her foot), well on her way to dozing off. The noises reminded her of the sea and the warmth was just too much to really ignore. She didn't feel like she was in too much danger anyway, and a yawn escaped her mouth as she rubbed at the corner of one of her eyes. Sleepy tears had formed and she just....was faintly nodding off. Maybe this whole candidate thing wasn't for her and she could leave the sands to take a nap? With this many kids out here and that many people in the stands SURELY she wasn't needed.

But then...if she stepped off the kid would be left without a shoe and if something bad did happen could she forgive herself for leaving Kinye as is? Not really, no, and so she just...yawned again and did her best not to use the smaller candidate next to her as an arm rest.

It'd be cute though.

Haelwen | 21 | She/Her | High Reaches Candidate
Haelwen watched all of the happenings with the babies with a keen eye. She remembered touching each of the shells and the responses she had received upon doing so and it was just thrilling to see what the dragonets looked like now that they were emerging.

The woman felt a desire to go to the Hufflepuff dragonet and comfort it but its' cousin and father were already doing that and she knew better than to try and assist with anything other than a calming and encouraging presence. There is no way that she would be the one to get mauled or kicked off the sands for disregarding all of the warnings they had been given by the Candidatemaster.

Just as she was scanning the eggs again, making notes on who was moving and who had yet to stir she felt a hand on her arm and she turned to see who it could be. She didn't really recognize this woman other than having seen her in the barracks and during lessons, luckily she was saved the embarrassment of having to admit she didn't remember her name when the other introduced herself. Solameya, nice name. she thought to herself as she tried to commit the name and face to her memory. "Haelwen." she responded as she extended her own hand to shake and cast a glance back out at the sands to make sure nothing was happening she needed to be terribly concerned about. "This is my first hatching, yes, I got searched while I was in Tillek hold a few months ago. So far it is all very exciting. I am enjoying seeing what each dragonet looks like as they emerge from the eggs. Would be lying if I said I wasn't hoping one of them chose me even though I had never considered being a dragonrider an option before I wound up here."

She turned her attention to the other side of the Sands where a foot was poking out of the top of an egg. She saw her brother lean forward as if to go assist and her fists clenched as she mentally screamed at him not to move. She knew it was in his nature to be helpful but she really didn't care for the idea of picking his corpse up off the Sands later after he angered the dragons. Luckily he seemed to catch himself and relaxed back and she let out a breath she wasn't aware she had been holding. Good. Everything would be ok. She relaxed further when the little green dragon made her way over to invesigate and ended up helping, perhaps unintentionally, the egg crack to release her cousin who had been trapped inside. "What a helpful little baby, she's super sweet!" It occured to Haelwen that this hatching so far was a lot quicker and more tame than she had been led to expect and she hoped it continued this way.

It seemed she thought too soon though because in the next moment Rhianth was again scolding someone and Haelwen had the urge to step back but she knew that the displeasure couldn't be aimed at her. She had done nothing wrong since arriving and so she bowed slightly towards the queen instead, trying to appease her, and made the concious effort to send out even -more- calming and soothing and reassuring thoughts in hopes that they would help.

Yay! A friend! Really just that middle paragraph with the dialogue if ya don't wanna read it all smile

Hyseren | 21 | He/Him | High Reaches Candidate
Everything was happening so quickly! His eyes kept darting around the Sands, trying to keep track of everything that was happening and he was nearly giving himself a headache but then he heard a crack, and frantic scrabbling and he started to lean forward once he saw the source but he caught himself just in time. Don't be a sharding idiot Hyseren, you know the rules. If the baby needs help someone will ask you. he berated himself as he settled back.

He watched anxiously and breathed in relief when the green baby made her way over and offered her own assistance. "What a sweet girl you are, helping your cousin like that~" he crooned quietly to the little dragon as he worked to press calm, reassuring, welcoming thoughts back out towards all of the babies. He spared a quick glance for his sister and saw that she had been joined by another girl, that was good, Haelwen needed more friends here.

Just as quickly as he relaxed he was on edge again as the hiding baby made a distressed noise and Rhianth once again made her displeasure known. What in Faranth's name were people doing to cause such reactions? He couldn't understand how anyone could be upsetting such young babies, they were precious and needed to be protected and nurtured, didn't all of the candidates know that already?

Zeraiah

The whole process of rolling off his bunk, donning robes and shuffling along to the cavern with the rest of the mass of Candidates had been nearly automatic. It wasn't that he was all that practiced or calm. The rules had simply been drilled I to him, and it'd been so important not to ruin his chances -- this chance-- that he'd taken them deeply to heart and moved as he was told to move, gone when told to go.

That was then. Here, now, standing on the actual Sands, facing actual hatching under the watchful and, yes, critical eyes of dragons and Weyrfolk alike, everything was different. Things were happening so fast and the sound! The sound of his own breathing, the pound g of his heart, the murmurs and gasps and hardly-whispered conversations around him, they all combined into a dizzy g chaos that made it hard to know where to look first!

But look he did, at as much of everything at once as he could manage, eyes wide and bright beneath the shag of hair he shoved back impatiently. As he shifted from foot to foot, he wanted an unconscious chant: "Yes, yes yes..."

Niobet and Aedeth

So many metallics. The though was thick with genuine surprise, but followed a moment later by smug confidence. It proves the strength of out golds.

Too used to Aedeth's opinions to roll her eyes, Niobet still huffed a soft laugh and shook her head. Yes, love, though I think the sides might have had a little something to do with that as well.

Aedeth huffed a sigh in turn and relented, offering a begrudging, Yes, perhaps that is true. A strong gold chooses wisely, after all. Clearly. Look. So many little shining ones.

Arlie (phone post)

She couldn’t prove it, but she wondered if her sister was being mentally harsh. There were...a few soft ones in this batch that probably weren’t to her liking. But! Hufflepuff didn’t have to be her target! But again, no proof...Just—Positive thoughts, Arlie, positive thoughts...!

“Maybe they’re like their own clique?” she suggested, watching Slytherin move to its siblings for a private chat. She hadn’t really touched them, so maybe Haveli had more insight.

Seeing Saekagi close by, she tried to get his attention. If Arlie was having trouble keeping their spirits up, maybe a third person would help. “Whatcha think?” she asked.

Karone
Rhianth growled again, looking around for whoever had upset one of her babies. Who was doing that? Hadn’t they been told a thousand times how to behave on the sands? He tried not to nurse the sour feeling that welled up inside. If they would reject any dragon, they didn’t deserve one at all.

User ImageWatching the crowded sands with a white knuckled grip on the seats before her, Yunara peered down at Karou. The repeated growls from the mother Gold frightened her gentle soul, but she was determined to stay and watch. Dragons... couldn't hurt people, could they? Or could they?

-----

What a little showman! Amare gave a laugh at the sight of those two boys. How darling they were! She was more than amused by the sight of them. It seemed as though the little greenish bronze had some nefarious purpose, or was he perhaps trying to get his siblings out of the shell? Pursing her lips, Amare leaned into Dynz. "Such charming creatures," she purred, watching the little green play.

Saekagi jumped, not for the first time, and then wound up reaching to try and make sure his bangs were still arranged co partially obscure the scars on his face, coloring on top of the flush from the prolonged, baking heat of the sands, though he hoped no one noticed. Embarrassing enough that he was this skittish when, well... one girl looked like she were falling asleep. He wasn't sure how you did that when it was this hot but maybe she was just more used to it. He thought his feet were about done cooking at this point.

"I uh..." He floundered, glancing at Slytherin and blinking. "Maybe? That one feels like... I don't know." He couldn't put his finger on it, or tell if it was just nerves. "They're cute but they're also scary, but a lot of them are scary."

"I mean it'll be easier when they impress. I'm hoping they do."
