Tuelarua - HR Candidate, She/Her/Hers

Dhawsn’s remark actually startles a laugh out of Tuelarua, trying to hide it behind her hand. Maybe they were weird, but she was quite fond of the views of the mountains. She quirked a brow, before nodding. “I got to touch a few. Little blue that’s zooming around was pretty sweet to me, and that little one there that hasn’t hatched yet,” She nods at the Snowflake egg, “was very kind. What about you?”

Yet Tuela cast a stray glance at Miela, making certain to keep tabs on the young candidate. A first hatching could be an interesting experience, and after the touching… She couldn’t quite explain the gentle, protective feelings she had over the little one. Perhaps a dragon would find her to impress before possibly upset over whatever had happened between them. But the young candidate’s nerves could near be felt in the air, and Tuela gently reached over to take Miela’s hand, giving a gentle squeeze -- but loose enough that if she wanted to pull away, Tuelarua certainly wouldn’t protest. “It’ll be okay.”

Oh, irony. Sweet, stupid irony.

Seeing the Ding Dong Egg shatter into the angriest blue dragon Tuelarua had ever seen had her trying to react, moving herself in his path in some feeble attempt to protect the small candidate. But the force of him hitting her, his claws against fragile skin, had her yelping. Bruises would set in, and no doubt she’d have some distinguished scars. Furrows up her legs, shallow into her stomach, arms and hands where she’d tried to instead protect herself and her more vulnerable bits. The robe was ruined, but in tact. The rivulets of blood were mostly superficial. But nothing lethal, nothing worth a trip to the healer’s -- no doubt a lecture from F’dral, though she would take that in stride after the hatching.

But feeling the bleed off emotions of baby dragons, no matter how she had felt it before, could prepare her. Staggering under the feeling of his anger, weighing against the urge to look away from the savaging, she turned her gaze onto the smaller candidate. No, all her attention was focused on Miela.

Ahula - HR Candidate - She/Her

The fighting between the bronze and brown brothers was almost typical, expected -- and though she hoped it would all be okay, it seemed that the fighting was only escalating. Though she knew the parents would step in if it got too rough. Yet her hand found the hem of Urzoh’s sleeve, worrying her bottom lip finely. And with Ding Dong hatching an angry blue, going after the candidate who had set him off (and taking out others in his path), she was worried, reining her mind in to soothing, happy, calm thoughts.

I’lin & Bronze Pellereth - HR

Though he’d tucked in on a lone ledge to watch the hatching, Pellereth had perked up slightly, feeling Cythereath’s brush. His gaze cast around until he found the beautiful little green getting cozy amongst their cousins, and though his hearts ached, they also soared at her touch.

It looks like you have fantastic company to share this wonderful event with. Perhaps.. He pauses, mulling over his words as he watches the little hatchlings below. Had they been so small so long ago? Catching up would be.. a delight, Cythereath.

The Lump of Coal Egg found himself pulled over by his brothers weight--but he kicked at his brother stomach with the full-force of his hind-legs, and ripped out quite the chunk of his shoulder. Let this be FINISHED! He wasn't trying to maim him--but he did wish to disengage immediately.

So what if he sported new scars, and wounds upon his hide. Things were happening and something more important than this petty fight was beginning to catch the bronze's notice. As soon as he had removed himself from his brother, he turned his blazing-red eyes to the Candidates, maw covered in ichor.

Someone wasn't noticing him. Someone was thinking about another, and touching another, and was newly banged up by some trashy-little-blue.

Excuse me! Kaiator! Remove your hand immediately from that one! How can you fuss over someone else like so and leave your Argamath with nothing? The fight meant nothing--he had no need to prove himself any further--but this meant everything. How could he leave him there, so far away, fussing over nobodies, while he bled his own ichor right on the sands. You thought you didn't think I was meant for you....but you didn't mean that, did you? Am I not your everything? Won't you let me be? Don't keep me waiting, Mine. And, just for him, in a moment of confidence wavered, he added quietly, desperately. ...please.

Ionan wasn’t scared. He wasn’t. Not when that blue went charging. He swallowed and his hold on Kinye’s hand tightened slightly before he realized. He loosened his grip. “Sorry,” he murmured. He was ready to help Kinye if anything happened! At least that dragon seemed to have a focused target—maybe he’d leave them alone?

“Hey, look. The green’s friendly! And I think that blue’s like T’rel! He’s clumsy. Or something. Maybe he’s excited.” Maybe being stuck in an egg was dull. He hoped to distract Kinye from that angry baby. And maybe distract himself a bit, too.

dhawsn - he/him

It was instinctual. The moment he heard that cry, the moment he saw that large blue make his way towards their group, Dhawsn became a stupid, stupid hero-wannabe. Because he had figured this would happen. Rumors weren't always wrong. Something had definitely happened at the Touching, even if he didn't know what exactly besides upset eggs. And eggs tended to find their targets one way or another, he had learned over the turns.

Too bad his stupid fat a** wasn't enough to stop a baby dragon regardless. He tried, certainly, to intervene, but there was only so much he could do without getting even rougher--and Faranth knew he couldn't jeapordize the baby or his intended target further. In a mess of blood and ripped fabric, Dhawsn did his best to try and shield Miela, and it cost him--and he didn't even stop the rampage, for all his efforts.

He was a coward, right up until it was trying to save a kid. Some poor kid who had made a mistake at the wrong time, but who didn't need to die for it. Maybe it was his new dad instincts overwriting the yellowbelly he had always been. Maybe Dhawsn just desperately wanted to make something better for a Hatching for someone else. It was too bad that thoughts and actions didn't always resolve so neatly in reality.

"H-Hold on, I gotcha," he rumbled when there was a free moment to try and take her out of the blue's grasp. His own body was shaking from the gashes on his arms and legs, though he had done his best to keep the injuries limited to his back. Shards, shards. "I gotcha," he repeated, ignoring what Miela had said. He was too afraid to address the dragon directly, but he tried to look submissive even as the onslaught happened and his protection continued, paper thin.

mel - she/her

Oh. Uh. Well. Looks like the blue was gonna touchy them instead.

Now Mel was all about physical touch, but one accidental swipe of a claw was enough to have her stepping back so as to avoid making the whole thing more of a ********. Ow. She held her hands back--see, no engaging the kids, Candidatemaster, look how good she was, bleh--and tried not to snicker. The blue was cute, in a dorky way.

"Nice seein' ya, but watch yerself, kiddo. You're doin' fine," she told the dragonet casually before addressing Haveli. Her eyes fell on the gash. "Ech. You wanna get pulled to the healers for that?"

Though it could wait. The angry bronze approached them, and Mel tensed. He wasn't going to follow up like the blue over there had, right? Only, it didn't seem right. There were so many colors in those eyes...

Candidate Nalacko - she/her

Nalacko offered a smile to Oranie and Elibrie as she joined the trio. "Hello and good luck everyone!" She whispered softly. Pleasant thoughts. Tonight would be a good night. All her friends would Impress their dragons tonight. Nala smiled at Juhvek and nodded slowly at his question. "I think so." She just hoped it didn't get scary like it had when R'iz Impressed.

Eggs were beginning to move in earnest now, and Nala was pleased to see Holly Egg among them. She remembered that one fondly. Silently she cheered the egg and it's captive dragonet within on. A quick message from Nanuth brought a smile to her lips. Thanks Nanuth! One friend present, surely the rest would follow soon.

Starry Night Egg and Ding-Dong Bell also moved. Anticipation filled her as she waited for the first baby dragon to make their entrance. And shortly there after, another familiar voice filled her head. The fun hasn't even started yet Yulaniath! I would hope so! Nala laughed in her mind. They were here. How could she have doubted them? Or mainly she doubted they'd come to see her Impress. But with no less than two dragon reassurances so far, she couldn't doubt.

They were her friends, even if they were riders and she was not yet. A crack rang through the hatching cavern. Nala wondered who it was, but there was no sign of it yet. Holly Egg was certainly excited though. She really wanted to meet that dragon if only to say hi. It looked like the activity from Holly also set off Rudolph.

"I hope I get to say hi to Holly Egg. It was really energetic and welcoming at the Touching." Nala chuckled as Juhvek nailed it with Starry Night. She wasn't sure what the brown expected, but she nodded. You are very handsome. Nala didn't think such a good looking boy would want a little girl like her. Perhaps Juhvek would be more his style? She hoped he wouldn't get mad at the candidates.

Holly Egg was determined to follow his brown brother onto the sands as quickly as possible. She inhaled softly as Holly Blue spilled a handsome blue onto the sands. Nala hoped the blue wouldn’t hurt himself in getting untagled! Calm down, you’re stepping on your own wing. Roll until you’re off it. She shifted nervously as she felt the tension from Starry Night Brown and the recently hatched Coal Bronze. Oh dear. Please don’t fight.

More eggs shook and Blue Ornament revealed itself to be a nice little green. She winced and ducked a little behind Juhvek as the brown took on the bronze. Nala was glad when Holly Blue got to his feet and made his way toward the candidates. She winced though as he knocked into a few of them. Someone would have bruised shins before long. She wished him luck finding His.

Another blue made his appearance, almost as nervous as Nala felt as he hid behind his wings. She felt sympathy for him. Santa Egg was giving them a bit of a tease as it decided now was not the time to hatch. It was a metallic, but bronze or gold, she couldn’t say which. Nala was fairly certain it wouldn’t be for her.

A call from Holly Blue as he figured out the use of his wings brought a smile to her lips. Nala turned her attention from the fighting dragons, but she winced as he caught his wing on a candidate. The green from Ornament helped her brown brother to hatch, then went up to a couple of candidates. She inhaled in fright at the red eyes and long sharp fangs of Ding Dong. Oh dear. Had someone already upset him? She winced visibly as his emotions flooded over her.

Nala hoped Starry and Coal would stop fighting soon. They were doing so much damage to each other. She was sure boys would be happy to have either one as their partner. A nod to Juhvek showed she’d heard him. While it was bad…. she’d seen worst before. Santa picked now as the time to make their entrance. Would they side with their bronze brother or brown?

Something else settled the matter first it seemed. Nala watched as Coal Bronze made his way over to one of the candidates bruised by Holly and claim him. At least the fighting had stopped. Nala breathed a little easier and took a glance at Oranie and Elibrie. “Are you ok?”

Ruunan [HR] - 17 - he/him/his - App Woodcrafter

The hatching sands were painted in deep shades of brutality and love, a flow of red and green that was nowhere near as festive as the shells that had once sat steady. Ruunan raised his hands to cover his mouth, standing shock still as the Holly Blue accidentally pierced another candidate.

And then. Oh. Oh, it got so much worse. Ding Dong Egg hatched- and a large blue sat in within the remains of the shell, eyes red, fangs gleaming, a whirlwind of fury to be unleashed and… oh… the poor girl. He stood, still unable to move. The dragonet’s unbridled emotions swept over the sands, and he was not immune to his rage and anger. He felt it welling up, a balloon ready to burst, offering a fiery courage moments ago he did not possess.

How desperately he wished for the fighting to stop. Ruunan knew he could not step between Miela and Ding Dong Blue, but...

The battle of the brothers seemed to halt, and Ruunan gave a small hiss as the bronze disengaged, quite ripping out a chunk of his sibling’s shoulder. Please be okay… He willed the brown to stand proud and confidently once more, even as rainbows crossed the bronze’s eyes… This… this was so senseless. He clenched his hands, sending positive thoughts to both Starry Sky brown and Snowman blue… It would be okay. No deaths, no awful keening...

For a moment, his thoughts drifted to Aureliath, but he pushed that memory deep back into the dark recesses of his mind before calming himself with a few deep breaths.

Candidate Eyriean - HR - They/Them

So many things going on here on the sands, and Eyriean didn't know what to make of it all. They were absolutely in awe of everything going on, every baby that settled upon the sands. When the Bronze impressed? They offered a nod to the boy, folding their arms around themselves. Such a wonderful hatching already.

Candidate Rhys - HR - He/Him

A part of him was really wishing he had company on the sands right now. He was sending all the best to the babies, but in the back of his mind, the bookish blonde was nervous. What was going to happen, really? What was going to occur with the rest of the hatchlings? It was good that the Bronze had Impressed, at least. There was so much to take note of when he had time in the barracks later.

Ryala
And there it was, the brawl that she'd been expecting. This was definitely not good! She'd rather hoped that they'd part ways, or maybe Impress before things escalated this far, but that hadn't happened.

A wave of pure anger struck her, seeming to radiate from the large blue who had emerged from the bell egg. And he clearly had one target in mind as he arrowed right towards the individual.

The green had finally she'd the rest of her shell, and from what Rya could tell, seemed to be politely greeting one of the other candidates. Another brown had appeared, and as she watched, the one egg that had been cracking for some time finally fell away from a beautiful, glistening hatchling. The yellow tint of their eyes didn't escape her notice... she really couldn't blame them for being concerned. She was too, and as a candidate, was unable to do anything but watch.

----------

Gwyn
As the new blue abandoned his egg and shot directly towards his victim, Gwyn swiftly moved out of his path. She had NO intentions of getting in his way... doing so would do no good for anyone! Besides, judging by that palpable rage, they had somehow managed to offend this dragon while he was still in the shell! Goodness, couldn't people actually learn to behave around a clutch of eggs?

The blue that had clumsily passed her earlier now seemed to have snagged his wings on another girl. With a sigh, Gwyn was about to go over to help set him strait, until she noticed that someone else already was. Well, that was better!

Turning her attention back to the hatching, she barely registered the new brown in the Sands, as the sight of the shining form sliding free from it's egg drew her eye.

----------

Avali

Well, this wasn't working! Resigning herself to the fact that she'd just have to remain in this sandy, goopy state until after the Hatching (and already thinking longingly of a hot bath), Avali sighed and climbed back to her feet. At least she wasn't injured by the fall.

Looking around, she gasped again. So much was going on now... A green was near one girl not far from her, but there was a blue who was very angry who passed within a hair of her, radiating his displeasure for all to know. And much closer to hand, a bronze was fighting with the brown who'd hatched first.

They hadn't taken any notice of her, though, or brought their disagreement closer, so although she watched them cautiously, she didn't think she had to worry about them.

Just then, another egg broke, and once more a gasp escaped her lips as she spotted the shimmering vision on the Sands. Oh, how wonderfully beautiful!

But the brown was badly injured. Ichor pooled freely on the sands where he had fallen. Some stupid, wretched impulse sent him crawling after his brother, as if to get back his own. But... the streaks of green left behind told the tale all too well.

He was fading. Tired, the gash in his neck and shoulder now joined by a deep rake in his side, the brown Starry Night dragonet laid his head down. My... Ilzerin...

The dragonet tried to move, tried to lift his head, but he could not. Am I... worthy of you... now? Sorely weakened, the infant listened as all became a bit quiet, the rush of the fight now gone, adrenaline pooling away. Would his Ilzerin come to him? Was this how all was meant to be?

[kaiator & bronze argamath - he/him - HR]

"Absolutely, my dear scaly associate. You know you're simply the light of my eyes." Kaiator shook his head, glancing over to Mel again--she didn't seem to be too terribly worse for wear, which was a relief, considering how Haveli seemed to have fared. Not the worst by far, considering the...rather meaty sounds coming from a little ways out of view, presumably where the Ding-Dong Blue had barrelled off to. He was already in the process of shredding the edge of his robes to serve as bandages for Haveli's gouged leg when the shuffle of something else came into the edge of his vision. Was it another Candidate, perhaps, looming to see just how bad the damage had been?

"If you'd like a better angle, I've got a few places I can suggest to you." he grumbled, voice clearly tinged with displeasure. He made sure to direct it as far away from the Holly Blue as was possible--it wasn't his fault someone had decided to come snooping, after all, and he didn't want to spook the little fellow into doing anything drastic. "Might I--"
Before he even finished, there was a voice in his head, loud, imperious, and absolutely undeniable.

Excuse me! Kaiator! Remove your hand immediately from that one! How can you fuss over someone else like so and leave your Argamath with nothing?
Holy s**t. Was that--
Sure enough, when Kaiator turned, he saw the Bronze from earlier staring up at him, eyes whirling--whirling rainbow.
You didn't think I was meant for you....but you didn't mean that, did you? Am I not your everything? Won't you let me be? Don't keep me waiting, Mine.
He dropped the would-be bandages, the cloth falling limply from his hands with no concern for where it settled from there. Slowly, almost reverently, he sunk to his knees, turning away from Mel and Haveli to put his attention right where it needed to be--on Argamath. His beautiful, wonderful, utterly perfect Argamath.
...please.

To hear that voice beg at all, to know how his Bronze's hearts ached--it threatened to break him, and Kaiator bundled Argamath up into an embrace that he needed more than air, hardly caring about the streaks of blood and ichor that were now freshly smeared across the both of them. That was a trivial thing, after all, something easily rectified. It was utterly inconsequential in the face of this--save for the fact that Argamath likely wouldn't enjoy the dirt, as he dimly realized.
"Yes." he whispered, voice shaking. "Yes, you are. You-- You're perfect. How could I ever have been so blind as to discount you?"
I knew you'd come to your senses eventually. Argamath practically purred, lifting his chin just enough to ensure that Kaiator could get the best possible look at his gorgeous new lifemate. He knew the man couldn't tear his eyes away from him--it was only right to give him a lovely view as well. We were meant to be, after all.

There were tears stinging his eyes when he looked up at Mel and Haveli, threatening to fall--he didn't care. The grin on his face was the most genuine it had ever been, and with his rider's overwhelming joy on his heels, Argamath deigned to give the two of them a momentary glance. The Holly Blue, however--that riff-raff wasn't even on his radar.
"I-- I just--" Kaiator started, stumbling over his words far more than he ever would've expected. "I'll see you. Both of you. You'd better be at that table with us at the end of this."
Argamath did his best to roll his eyes, gently nudging Kaiator with the tip of his perfectly-formed snout. Speaking of that table, Mine... Shards, every time he heard that voice, it sent a thrill up his spine. I know, I know. But might we discuss this over some food? And perhaps a nice bath. You are...filthy. And so am I, regrettably.
Of course.

With that, he got back to his feet, ignoring the burning grit of sand shearing away from his skin. He kept one hand on Argamath as he turned and strode toward the tables.
Everything was different now. But--with Argamath at his side, maybe that wouldn't be so bad.

Dorok

There was a great deal of offense the young man felt on behalf of Starry Night brown - being treated so by his brother - and that would most definitely be leaving a mark! But it seemed the bronze had found something far more interesting to focus on now, and he couldn't help but stare after him as he left his brother to bleed after the vicious fight. Dorok didn't like it one bit.

But the bronze was now somebody else's to deal with and Dorok could again steady this thoughts to calm, taking this time to take stock of which dragons were hatched and looking for theirs still - That green, a couple of blues, a couple of browns, the.....metallic. Dorok's attention lingered on the concerned dragon for a moment, wondering quietly what it would do next before his attention turned again to the fearful Snowman blue.

He wanted to will it to somewhere it would be happier. To someone it could make very happy by choosing them as His. Certainly there was somebody suitable for it! Though he couldn't help but give the rest of the candidates a bit of an evaluating look. Hmmmmm.

"One down, the rest to go," he said to Dehka and Orri, hands on his hips thoughtfully and a half-frown on his lips. Who would the spirited brown choose now?

Assuming, of course, Theirs got them to a healer in time. Dorok certainly hoped so.

Kahbrohm

Well that was disappointing. Kahbrohm was getting kind of used to babies simply bypassing his greatness. Which was their loss - but the fighting was over and now...well, there were plenty to still see hatch and impress now.

He eyed the metallic that was surveying them all still, staring back at them. What were they thinking about? They seemed to have had no mind to soothe the chaos that was about, so what would happen now? He wanted to see it.

"Let's see how long it stays quiet like this," hmph.

Kinyegele

Kinye stared at Santa's gleaming hide and something in her wilted sadly - no metallic dragon wanted her! She was not goldrider material - and that wasn't out of some self deprecation either. Kinye simply knew truthfully she wasn't meant for it. But, she'd hoped it had been a green somehow still. But it seemed things were getting quieter now that the two siblings had stopped fighting to find theirs - one out of complete necessity for the next few moments. Death would have come for both if they hadn't, but the brown was....

She bit her lower lip and squeezed Lusialu's hand again. "They'll be fine," she said out loud, allowing it to be given power by doing so.

Ding Dong Bell Blue certainly savaged those who were in the way--and he certainly made sure that Miela knew well what a fool she'd been to claim any dragon weak.

But she was a child--just as he was. They both made mistakes.

He had no intention of truly hurting others, and as he pushed himself away from the bleeding girl, onslaught finished, he did turn an approving eye on those nearby--and the healer as well. She would not be alone. They could all get themselves patched.

Wear my scars well, girl. And with that, the beast of a blue would spare her no further thought. Though he had stewed for sevendays, planning, preparing, knowing full well what he intended--now that the price had been paid, he had no more ire. Instead, he gave his wings a shake, and trotted proudly back towards the throng of Candidates. He was confident, not at all apologetic, and why should he be?

He was just as great as his pompous siblings, was he not?

Forgive me for my anger, Mother, Father, but spare the rod, spoil the child.

Haveli

Part of Haveli wanted to laugh again at the outcome. She'd made the remark that the bronze was Little Bo - no, she couldn't call him that anymore. The remark she'd made about the bronze being his had been so painfully accurate, about the showing off and comforting and whatever else, but nothing came out. Her leg and head were throbbing, and Kaiator was mostly dismissed with a wave of her hand. His words didn't really echo in her ears, only the pounding of her heart, as she attempted to rip a bit of her sleeve to use as a wrap for her leg. Tight pressure and standing on the other foot would be all she needed.

She wouldn't see him again, ever, probably. This was fine, like before. All it would be now is Mel Impressing and she'd be alone again, wondering if she needed to charge for her services of metallic rider prediction. Maybe she could offer it later to any of her fellow desperate candidates, in time for the next hatching.

She'd never see him again.

This...was fine. It had to be.

"Mel. I'm alright. You mind helping me stay steady while I tie this off?" She couldn't balance on her own, didn't want to talk or think. The robe was ripped and she opened enough to show her thigh....and just how lucky she'd been. A few spaces higher and she'd have likely never gotten up from the sands, becoming a bloody pool. That wasn't how she wanted to end things. "This isn't serious enough for a healer, and" She turned to look at the damage the other, raging blue had done. "...she needs them more than I do."

Her head was hurting again, but her mind needed to be clear. Just because the fighting had stopped (was the brown dragonet dead?) didn't mean they were safe. That blue could turn on anyone and with a bum leg she wasn't going to move very fast. Thankfully it looked like that wouldn't be needed, but she still required some help to stand and tie herself off.

Urzoh - [she/her] - HR

Oh good those fighting boys, impressed. Urzoh stood in her toes to get a better view of the the pairs. Good for them. Urzoh let out a gusty breath of relief. "Not a minute too soon, that poor brown looks pretty hurt," she whispered to Ahula. She nodded, a gesture of congratulations to the pairs. Even if they couldn't see her, no harm showing support.

Her eyes averted the small scene of carnage that was across the sands, an angry blue in the middle. Oh, lovely little thing, hopefully it would find their bonded - with all of its rage finally spent.

Ingonth

Most of the time, Ingonth preferred his outward demeanor to match the fabulousness of his interior. He had only ever slipped up twice, even though one of those times lasted for months, and anyone who said differently was a liar and a scoundrel. Tonight would be the third, acceptable only because everyone else would be making fools of themselves too. Babies, though. The blue had to see them.

    Soooo, what have I mi—

Ingonth went uncharacteristically silent as he landed on a ledge near his siblings and cousins, but it was only for as long as it took him to take a breath and chuckle it back out.

It's been... He looked off into the distance as if consulting an invisible sign. ...zero days since the last mauling on the sands. Will we ever get a hatching where everyone just sits calmly and points at Theirs? He wasn't speaking to anyone in particular, just surrounding himself with the sound of his own voice.
