MyNedemar... came the tiny, tremulous voice of the Cloudy Skies bronze, a thread of hopelessness and despair filling his mental voice. For indeed, the dragonet fully believed that the Candidate would reject him, would not want him, now that his own sister had gone to His's sister. Do you...
Could I be... enough? Your Astraioth loves you so much. Do you love me too? Could you... could you love me?
The pain in the infant's voice was palpable, for he could sense his chosen bondmate's defeat. He knew, better than anyone in the world, what Nedemar was grappling with. He had seen inside his thoughts, down to the deeply rooted pain of not being enough, never quite good enough. But to Astraoith, he was everything. Without him, there was nothing. No one, no one in the world could possibly take his place.
Nothing could. Not even the love of his family, whom he loved with all of his tender hearts. But without Nedemar, there could be no Astraoith. There was no way forward but this. If His didn't choose him, he was done for. There was no going back. He could not change his hearts, even if all the world demanded it of him. Even if His didn't believe in him.
I love you... please. Please, can't I be enough?

Nikrys
She always tried to stay controlled in public, but she'd never had a blue dragon leaping on her, now had she? Nikrys wasn't afraid; she'd done nothing to deserve injury, in her opinion, but the act was quite the surprise. She might have yelped. She did yelp, the sound that emerged most closely resembling 'yiiipff', and then she was laughing the laugh of the recently startled, a grin hidden behind her hand.
A boop. Yes. That would have solved everything. Thank you, Sketchy Cupcake.
Bherrus
Bherrus didn't quite know what was going on. He'd thought the bronze had places to be, but it looked like all he wanted to do was go lay down with his dad and go all gray. It was rather concerning, but the boy could do nothing except stand there, wondering if he'd accidentally brought in some sort of horrible poison on the hem of his robes.

The way both boys promptly straightened up certainly was not lost on the brown, small flecks of green beginning to swirl through his eyes. It was certainly nice to receive proper appreciation and respect. I will remember that. He told Kedriom, and, pleased with the restraint that had been shown, the large dragonet gave each boy a gentle, but firm nudge with his snout. Though he and Jhiroquel were acceptable, acceptable simply wouldn't do.
He continued to hunt through the crowd, and, having been mollified by the two young men, he seemed to be in better spirits. He brushed against Zelaya in silent greeting and recognition, and Isha would receive a nudge of greeting. He didn't linger, strolling through as if he owned the sands. And why not? Though his entrance had been rudely rushed, he was very much worth admiring even if the majority of attention was currently drawn elsewhere. He didn't mind.

Tyara
Tyara felt a little better as she felt the squeeze of her brother's hand. She tried to see, it did seem like there was possibly two eggs left unhatched, she hoped they both were okay. She got closer with her brother, glad they could see better, but not close enough to be in the way. She noticed to dragon pile starting to form as one of the bronzes seemed..upset? She felt a twinge of sympathy for him, wondering what was wrong. It had been the baby that had checked on them earlier. She could see how much the little bronze's father, which caused some hurt for her own heart, and brothers cared. They were a good family, she thought.
"Yes, we are. One family seeing another,"she replied. Hopefully, the baby would be alright.

Zelaya - They/Them/She/Her
Aha, well, someone seemed to be in a better mood. Though half their attention had never left the previously-angry-eyed brown, they had admittedly been distracted by the little bronze's apparent growing peril. His father had moved to intervene, but the baby had seemed to pale, and begun to keen. They had no way of seeing any swirl of rainbow impression eyes with the hatchling hidden away among his family, but oh, they did hope that things would come out right!
Now though, the larger brown who'd been so prickly before, seemed mollified. And surprise of surprised, he'd come by, even brushing against them in passing! Their hand turned from where it had rested at their side, to let him graze across their palm as he went, a little thrill rushing up their spine, a pulse of proud honor to have been remembered and acknowledged, even if it was only for a moment. He was a fine brown, more than fine, and he'd make someone very happy, they were sure! Even if it couldn't be them, that was quite alright. Whomever he picked would be just right.

Shekkeh
At first, when she heard the gold's voice in her head, she couldn't help but think that maybe... but no, she wasn't meant for her, and while that kind of stung a bit, the gold was being kind and she was genuinely happy for the experience at all. Just because a hatchling spoke to one didn't mean anything other than what the experience dictated. A fact she would remember.
After the gold turned to Stands and found Hers, one of the bronzes looked pretty down, cared for by parents and kind siblings until he reached out to His.
That was two dragonets that found Theirs, but there were still many on the Sands, perhaps, she could dare hope, even one for her. But if not, well she had plenty of time and chances, even if after meeting and seeing all these precious darlings, any other clutch might have a hard time comparing. But that was borrowing trouble for a future that may or may not come.
Think happy welcoming thoughts. Not so difficult a thing as she watched the rather dramatic antics of some, and the excitement and sheer joy from the gaggle of greens.

Eralgais
All smiles. That was Eralgais, even as the blue gave him a nosebump and wandered off. Was there a little twang in his heart as the dragon walked away without saying his name? Of course there was. No one would fault him for a twang, right?
But there was joy, too. He'd gotten to play with a dragon, up close and personal, And no matter what else happened today, no one could change that he had. So he was all smiles.
Jhiroquel
Jhiroquel didn't hold his breath. He wasn't hiding, he was in plain sight, and there'd be use in standing here panting for no good reason as he tried to catch it after the inspection. So he wasn't the right choice -- neither he nor Kedriom were? Dragons knew what they wanted and that was that.
He gave the brown another smart nod as he toddled off. Jhiroquel's posture relaxed, but it wasn't a sag. He didn't know how to sag, not really.
He looked to Kedriom and tipped his head a bit. "All right?" He was sure the answer was yes, but it didn't hurt to be sure.
Yeliya
Her attention had followed the commotion on the Sands: Iweth stepping over to the little brown, and the sudden movement of all the other hatchlings when the bronze went pale. For a moment, it had looked bad, very bad, for the little dragon but now? Now things seemed like they were all fine and good and that was definitely for the best.
Exhaling a short breath, Yeliya bounced on the balls of her feet. Things were moving and happening. There was something to watch everywhere. What next?
Eliaza
Eliaza, too, had been watching what happened with the little bronze who looked like he might just fade away, but she'd been far more concerned, eyes gone wide as all of the others dragonets and even Iweth himself descended on the baby.
Things looked to be resolved, now. Now that the little bronze seemed to have settled a little, maybe, she relaxed a bit, "You'll be all right," she hoped aloud. Taking a breath, f, she smiled at the little cluster of Candidates standing near her. "That might have been ust a little too exciting, don't you think?"

As he had well illustrated by this point in time, Green Spotted blue had no particular fondness for metallics, to say the least, but he did not wish them serious harm; he certainly didn't wish them death. So when Cloudy Skies despaired so, even he was concerned, and spared a whisper of support that could easily be drowned out by the waves of love from all the others. He didn't miss that Purple and Grey Space was distracted by the situation, but that was more than understandable. Once his brother did answer, he nuzzled him affectionately. If you're sure! Enthusiastic he might be, but he he didn't wish to drag his sibling into something he wasn't feeling. Don't hesitate to do as you please, though, if something catches your fancy.
And that went for White Tiger, too! If they had something fun they wanted to do, or someone they wanted to meet, he'd certainly not begrudge them that. As for where to start, hmm...he was quiet for a moment, formulating plans in his head. Maybe that one first, then that one, then that one...or, well, whatever order they ended up finding them in! It would all work out, somehow!
The blue strutted forth in search of their quarry, stopping now and then to peer at this Candidate and that one. Nikrys would be squinted at in just such a manner, and Texiar, and Lorealane, and any other blonde girl he came across. All would be swiftly dismissed as not that blonde, but offered a chirp and a nuzzle nonetheless, until...oh, hello! That was the one! He practically bounded over once he finally caught sight of Nisadee, though it was Razanel to whom he went, fairly twining around the man. There you are! Any new stories for me? He had so very much enjoyed his foray into the young man's memories. About your pretty friend, or maybe someone else?
No judgement here!

Kahbrohm
First impression was made, but Kahbrohm wasn't about to be put-out that the gold was off the sands. She couldn't have been his - and he didn't have much interest in taking in her rider. Not more than noting who she was - he lacked the ambition needed to ponder further than that.
One of the bronzes, however, had been descended upon by several siblings and Kahbrohm regarded the scene for a moment...then forced himself to look away. Unless the baby emerged from that cocoon of love, he had no plans to watch the alternative.
Instead, he regarded the brown that was closer to the candidates, crossing his arms thoughtfully. And there you are, he'd rather liked that one, after all.
----
Cetra
"Awww, he's gone...." Cetra lamented as the bronze baby left all the scritchin' fingers that had been reaching out for him, but even as she watched after him for a time it looked as though something was happening, summoning the baby's family down upon him with love and support.
"Oh, I hope he...turns out okay," she noted, looking to Nedemar next to her.
----
Lihyo
"The gold is impressed - were you hoping for her?" Lihyo asks Chakuri almost clinically. She'd understand if the girl was a little heartbroken about it. She'd understand any girl being heartbroken about a hope like that. Lihyo, however, had never entertained it and like with all things it seemed life would move on.
There were plenty of other baby dragons to look at and adore, right?
Did she adore any of them or did she just have an open heart that would be willing to be swooped in upon by any of them, without her hopes hung up on one in particular?
----
Draza
"Sisters for sisters - would be awfully nice, hmm?" Draza would certainly have liked that, eyeing down the gaggle of greens thoughtfully - and some of the blues as well. How fun any of them would be, really. "One of every color in this clutch - who do you think the white'll pick?"
Because whites always felt like the biggest wildcards, even though in her experience at hatchings they'd had a tendency to favor girls for this or that reason.

Isha
Isha had been mostly keeping to her thoughts after greeting the green who had hatched, though there was a trickle of surprise to find that she'd been addressed back. There was no real time for a reply though as the dragonet moved on, and Isha marked it down as the dragon wasn't hers and so no need to feel sad or hopeful or anything else. It was like a friend saying hi as they passed in the hall on their way to a proper destination. No need to worry or linger on it.
Besides, something else was happening on the sands that merited quite a bit of attention, and it was all unfolding rather close.
Seriously, what even was going on? There was a sudden pile on the dragonet that had come over before, the little bronze who stomped off?? Sulked off? Whatever it was it had lead to this situation which certainly didn't seem to good. Had it gotten worse because the gold Impressed, or what was going on? Not to mention the guy that had been standing next to her, all smiles and chatter, looked as though he might burst a vein any second in his head. As curious as she could be about things and how/why they were happening, some stuff even Isha just backed away from and let nature run its course. Whatever this guy was going through would be his own business and her trying to say or do anything wasn't going to help, even if she was inclined to try. Which she wasn't, so really it was her win.
The dragonet would likely be fine as well, with all the support headed his way. He'd be even better once he found his, Isha supposed, and actually had that emotional anchor they'd been told about again and again in lessons. The personalities the dragons were showing right now were theirs, sure, but Isha always assumed they were just ramped up to higher levels due to that lack of a lifemate to temper it down.
Either way, again, everything would be absolutely fine.
Which seemed proven enough as other dragonets saw to milling around, one of them - a lovely brown - even coming close enough to nudge against Isha in a passing greeting. That made......two more dragonets that weren't hers on her list, and she marked it down at the back of her mind. The greeting was returned though, sort of, as once more the dragonet didn't stay around long enough to even give her the time to say anything.
Fair enough!

Bherrus would be the next to be coiled around, and the Chocolate Chip Brown lingered by him before sauntering onwards. No, not for him. His blue brothers were gathered around a pair, and he glanced at the pair of Candidates in question before dismissing them. They just wouldn't do. He eyed Beelim and Besilin, but other than a cursory nudge with his nose, they didn't receive much attention. The longer he searched, the more his eyes began to whirl quickly with the bright oranges of irritation.
Just then, he stopped abruptly as he caught a stray thought. He stood motionless for a time, scanning the crowd until he locked eyes onto someone. He held his head high, his wings mantling ever so slightly as though in challenge. So. Was all he said. Oh, but he could feel the impatience, the almost palpable tension radiating from someone. Yes, this one had been passed over time and time again, and the dragonet didn't care one whit. He stalked closer with bold, aggressive strides until he was standing directly in front of the Candidate.
You deserved to wait. He said derisively, making no attempt to hide his scorn. His head snapped forward to butt against the young man's chest, roughly shoving him back. How dare you think that you had been left behind! He bared his teeth, offended beyond measure. He shoved the Candidate once more--but this time, the brown twined himself around the boy, his eyes gleaming with rainbow hues. No one else was allowed to have you. You are mine, Kahbrohm, and you would have waited until the end of time for your Sabyrth. If you had any sense, you would know that everyone else needed a head start before we joined the race.
