I think part of the problem is that the Gold rather than the conversations have become the focus of Gaia, at least when one looks at it from the outside.
Historically, the gold was a reward for participating in the community and doing stuff with the other people. Sure, there has always been a few trolls and beggars, but that tends to happen when there is some form of incentive people want. However, the community, actual conversations, and other things are no longer really emphasized anymore. The GD, used to be where to go for general, yet intelligent, conversation has become an infernal spawn of the Chatterbox, where... well... people historically chatted and hung out. ED and C&T aren't too bad community-wise, and it's probably where any form of non-Guild community exist. GCD is a bit of a hit and miss, and generally the art topics vary from section to section.
As I said it used to be a reward for merely being community-like to get gold; now it's reversed. Unfortunately they can't really reverse and go "Back To Basics" in a sense (god I hate that phrase).

Gaia is a "game" now. Not a site that rewards you for being part of a community. The more you pay, the better your items are, and the more items you can afford.
I'm kind of hoping the Olympics will be like the water balloon fight last year, where everyone had a team. It was nice. =) Kind of catty at times, but there was a ton of team spirit.
Elcia: You aren't a prude; we're just at opposite ends of the spectrum. I do not like the admins treating us like children, because so many Gaians are far from being kidlets. There's no nudity, no f-bombs or c-words in the mangas, and they're not shooting heroin or snorting coke. The mangas aren't targeted at 12 year-olds, and that's what I like about them.
Personally, I'm happy that Gaia is not suitable for those under the age of 13. There are more than enough websites out there for the kiddies.

Sure... I like playing dress up with my avatars, but I come here for the conversation nowadays. Probably 75% of the new features that are available, I've never used.

I agree with pretty much everyone's opinions... which is why I'm not really contributing to the conversation. ^^;
I wish they'd stop focusing on so many things at once and focus more on a few things, like the guilds, and make them better.

I guess I'm coming at it from a different direction. crying I love the dress-up almost as much as the talking to many of the people in this guild.
And that is one of the reasons I don't have a Myspace. I couldn't care less about the number of comments and friends I have on a list if they are all idiots with nothing to say. At least I get a few good chats with people around here.
And Lin has hit on exactly whats bothering me in general.
And even the gold earning is hardly rewarding. After your first post of the day it doesn't matter what you type it plummets straight to 2 gold so yeah.
