Round 3, Day 2

Things had been looking bad.

Though Zheria and Eveleth did not flinch, the changing winds had blown them into a bad spot. Thread was above them, below them, and next to them, and they had little time to react. Though she had her flamethrower ready, and even charred some of the Thread closest to Eveleth's left side, the woman was already preparing a trip Between in mind. That was the only way they'd get out of it. . . but they'd be well out of formation if they did.

Ah, but a little green hero surprised both the golden queen and her rider. A belch of flame, and both looked up to see the woman and her green helping to save Eveleth from the worst. Young Zurath, one of Eveleth's daughters from her most recent clutch, had come down from Low-Altitude to help clear the way. In fact, Zheria smiled beneath her riding gear, changing position so she could aim her flamethrower and help pick up some of the Threads that Zurath would miss. The two of them could clean up the mess, easily, of that both rider and dragon were sure.

But fate was cruel, and the winds, once more, changed. In a split second, Zheria prepared to have her dragon jump Between, to avoid the patch -- but something else happened. The young green threw herself into the patch, wanting to ensure Eveleth's safety!

"Cheza, no!" Zurath!! The large gold trumpeted warning, lurching herself closer, ignoring any ash burns or dying Thread that burned. But there was nothing rider or dragon could do as the green gave her final, sweet, farewell. Eveleth was shocked. She did not even have time to reply before her daughter threw herself Between forever.

For one moment. . . there was silence. And then Eveleth screamed a blood-curdling cry. She was sad, she was hurt, and most of all, she was angry! How dare Thread take one of Hers! How dare Thread cut short such a beautiful life. Eveleth was not always the most maternal of queens. Though she was often proud of her clutches, and favored her children immensely, she did not often seek them out of her own accord. Any relationship they wished to have with her, they would need instigate. She was a busy queen, and had many subjects to tend to. . .

But that did not mean she was heartless. That did not mean she did not feel, could not care, and did not dote upon those who wished to be present in her life. For those who came to her, willingly, the Queen could often be warm and kind. For those who tried to look at Eveleth without seeing her simply as a tool, she could embrace them with love.

Zurath had been one of those greens, and she had given her life to spare Eveleth pain.

Her shriek of indignation and grief was cut short as she suddenly disappeared Between. If she remained a breath or two too long, it was for a good cause. Though she had jumped to the cold void's embrace to rid herself of the Thread that did hit her, it was almost as if she had gone to search for the little green herself . . . or perhaps, to say a farewell.

Zheria bit her lip hard enough to draw blood, hand shaking as she readied her flamethrower once more. "Foolish, stupid, girl," she spat beneath her riding gear, glad that none could see how her dark blue eyes had gone, perhaps, a touch misty. Anger, of course, was easier express than the grief, regret, and hurt she felt. Such vulnerabilities would remain hidden. "She should have known. We could have jumped Between. We could have saved ourselves! She didn't have to die. She didn't have to die." Her own anger bled through, and was of course encouraged, by Eveleths. Still. She would not weep. She would not cry. There would be more losses to come. . . The green and her rider had died a hero. They gave their lives to protect Eveleth, and to protect Pern. They would be honored this night. It was all the Weyr could do.

This again. XD

17-19. Sometimes things come together to work right! There's a sudden sense of cohesion in a Wing, and as they work together, it pays off! They are not only able to help one another, and keep each other safe, but all those wing drills seem to pay off in this moment! What could have been a catastrophe is almost easily averted... Roll a 1-5 to see which wing is flying fine!

The blue thought about Cynosuth's question, even as he burned down stray patches and clumps here and there. How did he know his feelings for Viandarth? I flirted with him, yes. But darling, you know me, I'm going to flirt with any sexy male that gets within my view. It's not because I don't care for Viandarth less. . . I just enjoy making others feel good. Don't you? The blue asked innocently, moving properly into V'mel's assigned formation.

Viandarth was definitely his dragon of choice. The bronze was large, and rugged, and sexy. . . but Macuith was Macuith, and he could hardly help himself complimenting the males in his life. All you need to do is swish your - -

The Thread that came down hard and fast surprised the blue. He gave a surprised squeal, even as the Thread tangled up with his wings and neck, and back. In a flash, they disappeared to the safety of Between. They returned, flaming what they could, but C'lusi could feel something warm dripping down his already wrenched back, and Macuith was now spilling more green ichor. They carried on, but perhaps with less grace than before.

It was the last hour of the fall, they were so close to the end that the pair's tired muscles yearned for it. It didn't help that when there was a large gust of wind, the pair wasn't ready for it and was blown completely out of formation. Thankfully his wing know what to do and they stayed in formation as well. Takarath exerted himself greatly to fight the wind and return to position. In doing so, he felt a small pull in his wing which he alerted V'kenti about immeditely. We'll let the healers look over you when we land.

Round 1 Day 1

[Roll 1/5]
    16. You appear from Between only to find yourself in the perfect spot to catch a sliver of Thread. You successfully flame it down easily. [+1 Target Accuracy]

[Roll 2/5]
    8. Your dragon dives for a strand of thread that has fallen through the upper wings. Right before they belch forth their flame, they suddenly jerk hard to the right, almost in a roll, and quite unexpectedly. Sure enough, a gust of wind would have whipped the thread back in their face! Instead, the strand whips by, and your dragon is able to successfully flame it. [+1 Instinct]

[Roll 3/5]
    6. A strong gust of wind suddenly pushes you off course and right into a sliver of Thread! If you're a bronze or brown, you or your dragon take a scathing hit, unable to get out of the way. [Minor Damage -3 HP] If you're a blue or green, you wind up twisting easily out of the way, flaming it down successfully! [+1 Stamina]

[Roll 4/5]
    1. Ouch! Feeding your dragon some firestone has resulted in them biting their tongue! This is going to distract your dragon for the next three rolls. Their flaming aim will go down, and they might be slower to dodge out of Thread's way. [Tongue Bitten Effect! Your dragon is distracted by pain. No XP will be earned for the next 3 rolls. Any successes will be nullified. Should you roll a prompt with the possibility of damage, take the max damage allotted for your size/color automatically but it will also end the Tongue Bitten Effect immediately.]

[Roll 5/5]
    16. You appear from Between only to find yourself in the perfect spot to catch a sliver of Thread. You successfully flame it down easily. [+1 Target Accuracy]

[Wingleader Roll 1]
14-16. If Wingleader you actually are on top of things today! You're here to look out for your wingmates and your seconds, and in this case, you manage to do both! Quote one your Wingseconds, or Wingrider and nullify any negative effects & negative HP from their most recent roll! This can include Wingleader/Wingsecond rolls! If Wingsecond you find yourself panicking. In a rough moment, you witness a catastrophe about to go down! Do you save one from Thread about to hit them, warn another they're flying directly into another's flame!? Who do you save!? Quote a Single Wingmate and have them lose -5 HP!

Round 1 Day 2
[Roll 1]
    13. Trying valiantly to catch some thread, your dragon flames a bit sooner than you would have preferred. Surprisingly enough, the flame is long, hot, and sustained longer than usual. Your dragon manages to flame the clump and return to their position in their wing. [+1 Flame Length]

[Roll 2]

[Roll 3]

[Roll 4]

[Roll 5]

[Wingleader Roll 2]
5-7. If a Wingleader, you were so focused on chewing out one of your wingriders who pulled a stupid move, that you actually miss catching a large clump of Thread that's falling right past you. A nearby wingmate winds up taking the hit -- as they were busy flaming a different clump of Thread and hadn't time to notice. Quote a Single Wingmate and have them lose -5 HP! If a Wingsecond you actually are on top of things today! You're here to look out for your wingmates and your Wingleader, and in this case, you manage to do both! Quote your Wingleader, fellow Wingsecond, or Wingrider and nullify any negative effects & negative HP from their most recent roll! This can include Wingleader/Wingsecond rolls!

Round 3 Day 2 Mid altitude

[Roll 1]

[Roll 2]
    19. Your dragon has a moment of true inspiration, and sends out encouragement to his or her wingmates. Encouragement Boon! Quote one of your wingmates and remove one status effect

[Roll 3]
    1. A larger clump of Thread falls down hard and fast. Thankfully, your dragon is on top of it, and manages to hit the target with a large belch of flame just as it passes. [+1 Target Accuracy]

[Roll 4]
As you're flying, the wind picks up again, trying to knock you out of formaiton! If less than 22 feet, you get blown out of formation, but are agile enough to avoid getting hit with Thread. Hurry now -- better make it back before your Wingleader scolds you! If 23' to 35', you're able to fight it, but wind up pulling a wing muscle. Whoops. Maybe you over-compensated. -4 HP If 36'-46', you're able to fight the wind with relative ease. Unfortunately, the nearby Threadfall gets blown into your side and haunches -- and you were too big to move out of the way. Ouch, does that not burn!? Moderate Damage -8 HP

[Roll 5]
    9. As you're fighting Thread, you see your nearby wingmate in danger. You immediately blink between, falling out of formation, but hoping to save them! Roll a D4. 4. You actually find yourself Betweening INTO the clump of Thread. Oh fardles! [Major Damage -10 HP] SAVED BY LIRELOTH

Round 4 Day 1 Low Altitude
[Roll 1]
    18. Your dragon spots a few clumps of thread being blown about in front of them. If white, green, or blue, they manage to catch a pocket of air and surge forward, flaming down two of the three clumps, before dropping hard and getting the third. No thread's slipping through on your watch! [+3 Target Accuracy!] If brown or bronze, they don't need as much speed, and instead belch a long flame, catching all three with ease. +1 Target Accuracy, +2 Flame Length!]

[Roll 2]
    10. Are you feeling lucky? Well you should! Free reply! Respond to this post with any action pertaining to Threadfall, and gain a little luck. [+1 Luck]

[Roll 3]
    5. A small clump of Thread has fallen through! You successfully flame it down. [+1 Target Accuracy]

[Roll 4]
    17. Your dragon is effortlessly flaming Thread. Honestly, they almost seem to make it look easy. Both you and your dragon start to feel more confident, and even start to get a bit cocky. Low Altitude Wing was always the easiest wing to fly. Unfortunately for you.... Roll a D4! Find a tangle of thread hitting you from behind! Quick, hop Between so it doesn't do more damage than it already has! [Moderate Damage -5 HP]

[Roll 5]
    20. Something doesn't feel right. You wind up glancing over your shoulder just in time to see a small, silver strand drifting dangerously close to your dragon. Thankfully, your dragon shares your thoughts, and is able to blink Between and higher above their position, missing the strand, and saving yourself from a score. [+1 Instinct]

Round 4 Day 2
[Roll 1]
Your dragon is starting to feel tired. This particular fight is wearing them down. A strong gust of winds tries to throw them out of their position. Roll a D4 to see what happens! 3. Your dragon is blown out of formation. They struggle and flap against the wind, and only are able to recover when the wind dies down, feeling more exhausted than before. Worse, you think they may have pulled a muscles in their wing arm! Best watch it. [Light Damage -1 HP ]

[Roll 2]
You're low on firestone! If you've already replenished recently (within the last 5 posts) you may choose to skip this roll and just do a general post for no XP. OR you can keep it and blame it on a faulty bag, or some other excuse for being without stone. Call for one of the weyrlings to send you another sack of stone! [Flag down a weyrling! Post this code in your next post and see if a weyrling can get to you!

Takarath looked around everywhere and couldn't see any of his children and felt a moment of panic, what happened to all of them. "Takarath. I'm sure they just landed. They're still young and likely needed a rest. Lets just see if we can flag one down in a minute. The wing can cover us like they have been."
I Need Some Firestone!

[Roll 1]

[Roll 2]
