Lin is having a hard time finding music of the lighter-or-sparser-textured, acoustic-and-vocal, and lyrics-leaning-toward-emo persuasion... *searches more on Jamendo* Something like this: The Windupdeads - A Few Hours of Light

I would strongly recommend them- and if not that, then Lisa's Theme from Silent Hill is a nice, soft, sad acoustic melody.

There's also a Jrock song I'm thinking of... I'll go ask Zozma.

I'll look at The Cure and see if it's something I like enough to purchase (if they don't legally distribute music for free).
Also, I wasn't looking for I'm-feeling-sad-I'm-looking-for-attention-sadness-tear emo, but... well... I don't really know how the hell to describe the emo I'm looking for.
Also, that part of Silent Hill 1 made me cry. Silent Hill 1 is also the only suspense-horror game I've ever finished.

The Cure is the awesome.
Japanese-wise, I'd try Plastic Tree. The Cure in the Land of the Rising Sun~

She was the most innocent of the characters, and had the worst fate. And then that music.....
The Cure is a band from England, late 70's, that kept on for a long while. It has a sound very similar to what you linked me to in many instances. Definitely not rip-out-my-heart emo.
If you like the Cure, you'd probably like The Dresden Dolls, but they're a little more intense.
Here's the Buck-tick song I was looking for; ]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkLymcP2zMc

X3
Jrock. It's where it's at.
It has a surprisingly mature fandom, too. Which I like a lot.

Mm... I dig the instrumentation and the general groove and harmonies in that Buck-Tick link. But I've never been a fan of J-Pop/Rock or, for that matter, most music where I can't understand the lyrics. I always feel a bit empty, like I'm not getting the whole jist of the song because I don't understand the lyrics, and translations are never ever the same (you miss some nuances of the language).
