Pain was pain. They blinked away for a moment to shake off the dying rain of thread that brushed over the pair. They would not fall at the end. They would hold the line.

Just because it was letting up didn't mean that it wasn't still dangerous. Some eagerness was to be expected, and the two were soon beset by a wingmate blinking from between, flaming eagerly for thread that wasn't there.

No, only Cordrath, who hissed in pain and blinked away, orange and red whirling in his eyes. It hadn't been purposeful, but it had hurt!

As you fight against a strong gust of wind, you feel something pull! Uh-oh. There's a pain in your wing muscle that hadn't been there before. This isn't good, especially this high up! Still, your dragon fights on. If this is the third time you roll this and you haven't returned to the Weyr for attention your wings cramp up, and you find yourself going down! The wind is just too much, and the pain too great. You pushed yourself too hard, and now you're really in trouble! Post this!

This is the first time I’ve rolled this.

There was a sudden pain in Tyalith’s wing. Something was wrong... What was she supposed to do? She couldn’t stop fighting. She couldn’t.

As you're flying, the wind picks up again, trying to knock you out of formation!

If less than 22 feet, you get blown out of formation, but are agile enough to avoid getting hit with Thread. Hurry now -- better make it back before your Wingleader scolds you!

If 23' to 35', you're able to fight it, but wind up straining a muscle. Whoops. Maybe you over-compensated. -4 HP

Sharding wind! Tyalith was almost blown out of formation and the wind hurt against her injured wings. Ouch!

4. Nothing to flame quite yet, which is almost a miracle in this sort of Threadfall. Still, you're able to relax a moment, look around, and take note of your airspace. All's well... for now.

...oh, what a blessing. Tyalith had the time to take a breath, there was nothing to flame for a moment.

Macuith will be bringing up a sack momentarily. Takarath told his rider. Thank you, my brave Macuith! The father sent an encouraging wave of warmth with his reply. And sure enough, on of Takarath's blue son's came flying up from below. The issue was they couldn't get into position, so when they threw the sack, V'kenti had to crane (almost off of Takarath's back) to grab it. In the process Taka had to correct but it put them straight into some falling thread. The pair went Between quickly before too much damage could be done. Takarath relayed Macuith's apologies and V'kenti shook his head. "Tell them its okay." Besides their first blooding, threadfall was still a new and possibly horrifying experience. He didn't want one of Takarath's clutch to feel like they made a mistake. Macuith. It is not the first time we have been scored by thread and it won't be the last. Mine says he'd like to have an extra bag of firestone for any circumstances that might arise. Could you and yours bring us another bag?

A sliver of Thread caught the Queen's back, and she gave a hiss of pain. A quick trip Between took care of that, but Olliah could tell her queen tired. The parts of her golden hide that wasn't covered in ichor was ashen grey, after the loss of Zurath. Fianth had keened loudly for the green's loss, had ached to know not all had made it through . . . but there was nothing they could do right now. Grieving, mourning, processing... it would all happen after.

It was getting better--that had to be why they missed. Another clucking tongue from the uncaring universe, like a disappointed mother. Asuracath almost broke formation to chase it, so strong was her need to erase her mistakes, but Efrideet stopped her with a harsh command.

Instead, the white screeched in impotence.

Notice
If you roll an 8 one more time, you run out of luck!

Oh Faranth help him . . . they wanted more. While he wanted to simply shrivel up and disappear, there was no place to go. Thread wasn't over, and V'mel expected the weyrlings to be prompt. Still, he couldn't help but be humiliated. Of all the riders to botch a throw to, it was a shaffing Wingleader. And Macuith's own sire, at that!

Where C'lusi bemoaned the possibility of double humiliation, Macuith certainly brightened. Before they even got back to the weyrling wing, he turned right around and gave a cheerful trill. If it's stone you wish, it's stone you shall have! We'll get it right this time, I'm sure! He announced proudly, even managing a showy little roll upon his approach.

Once up there, C'lusi struggled. His back was on fire, his hands were shaking from nerves, and his embarrassment of having to face V'kenti and Takarath again was still eating at him. He knew this was going to go poorly, even with his blue's support. Certain that he had it, the man prepared to have the sack of stone--

OUCH! A long tendril of Thread blew down on the young blue, catching him well on his back and hips. Macuith gave a squeal of pain. In a quick moment, they mimicked their father's earlier display, jumping Between. They weren't quite as quick about it as Takarath had been, but they managed all the same. When the blue re-appeared, it was easy to tell he was hurting, with green ichor now dripping down his hip, but his eyes remained bright blue-green. We've got it this time!

If only it was that easy. C'lusi's throw was . . . a disaster. His back twinged again, and that Threadwound burned. He . . . He couldn't believe this was his life. He couldn't believe he was humiliating himself in front of a Wingleader. Thankfully, he did have one last bag of stone left. In a jiffy, he untied it, and this time, his throw was a success.

Tears pricked at the corner of his eyes as the stress, pain, and panic started to eat at him. The pressure of Threadfall was great. Failing riders he had looked up to, making a fool out of Macuith and himself, and adding to the shame of blue riders everywhere. He was not unfamiliar with the color bias in the Weyr. Though he often tried to ignore it, or shrug it off, there were certain instances the blue rider felt compelled to do better . . . . Today was one of those days.

And it had been a failure.

If a blue dragon could wilt, for just a brief moment, Takarath's proud blue lost his confidence, and he too wavered. Well...I. I suppose that's that, then. Keep on being amazing! He tried hard to sound cheery, throughout his riders utter humiliation. He wheeled tiredly away, knowing full well how terrible his rider felt, unable to lift his spirits.

They had just gotten themselves situated again when they hit a large thermal and threatened to push them out of position. Thankfully, the large bronze's stamina wasn't completely spent and he was able to stay in place easily and continue on. "We're almost there, Takarath, keep it up." V'kenti encouraged the bronze.

Round 1 Day 1

[Roll 1/5]
    16. You appear from Between only to find yourself in the perfect spot to catch a sliver of Thread. You successfully flame it down easily. [+1 Target Accuracy]

[Roll 2/5]
    8. Your dragon dives for a strand of thread that has fallen through the upper wings. Right before they belch forth their flame, they suddenly jerk hard to the right, almost in a roll, and quite unexpectedly. Sure enough, a gust of wind would have whipped the thread back in their face! Instead, the strand whips by, and your dragon is able to successfully flame it. [+1 Instinct]

[Roll 3/5]
    6. A strong gust of wind suddenly pushes you off course and right into a sliver of Thread! If you're a bronze or brown, you or your dragon take a scathing hit, unable to get out of the way. [Minor Damage -3 HP] If you're a blue or green, you wind up twisting easily out of the way, flaming it down successfully! [+1 Stamina]

[Roll 4/5]
    1. Ouch! Feeding your dragon some firestone has resulted in them biting their tongue! This is going to distract your dragon for the next three rolls. Their flaming aim will go down, and they might be slower to dodge out of Thread's way. [Tongue Bitten Effect! Your dragon is distracted by pain. No XP will be earned for the next 3 rolls. Any successes will be nullified. Should you roll a prompt with the possibility of damage, take the max damage allotted for your size/color automatically but it will also end the Tongue Bitten Effect immediately.]

[Roll 5/5]
    16. You appear from Between only to find yourself in the perfect spot to catch a sliver of Thread. You successfully flame it down easily. [+1 Target Accuracy]

[Wingleader Roll 1]
14-16. If Wingleader you actually are on top of things today! You're here to look out for your wingmates and your seconds, and in this case, you manage to do both! Quote one your Wingseconds, or Wingrider and nullify any negative effects & negative HP from their most recent roll! This can include Wingleader/Wingsecond rolls! If Wingsecond you find yourself panicking. In a rough moment, you witness a catastrophe about to go down! Do you save one from Thread about to hit them, warn another they're flying directly into another's flame!? Who do you save!? Quote a Single Wingmate and have them lose -5 HP!

Round 1 Day 2
[Roll 1]
    13. Trying valiantly to catch some thread, your dragon flames a bit sooner than you would have preferred. Surprisingly enough, the flame is long, hot, and sustained longer than usual. Your dragon manages to flame the clump and return to their position in their wing. [+1 Flame Length]

[Roll 2]

[Roll 3]

[Roll 4]

[Roll 5]

[Wingleader Roll 2]
5-7. If a Wingleader, you were so focused on chewing out one of your wingriders who pulled a stupid move, that you actually miss catching a large clump of Thread that's falling right past you. A nearby wingmate winds up taking the hit -- as they were busy flaming a different clump of Thread and hadn't time to notice. Quote a Single Wingmate and have them lose -5 HP! If a Wingsecond you actually are on top of things today! You're here to look out for your wingmates and your Wingleader, and in this case, you manage to do both! Quote your Wingleader, fellow Wingsecond, or Wingrider and nullify any negative effects & negative HP from their most recent roll! This can include Wingleader/Wingsecond rolls!

Round 3 Day 2 Mid altitude

[Roll 1]

[Roll 2]
    19. Your dragon has a moment of true inspiration, and sends out encouragement to his or her wingmates. Encouragement Boon! Quote one of your wingmates and remove one status effect

[Roll 3]
    1. A larger clump of Thread falls down hard and fast. Thankfully, your dragon is on top of it, and manages to hit the target with a large belch of flame just as it passes. [+1 Target Accuracy]

[Roll 4]
As you're flying, the wind picks up again, trying to knock you out of formaiton! If less than 22 feet, you get blown out of formation, but are agile enough to avoid getting hit with Thread. Hurry now -- better make it back before your Wingleader scolds you! If 23' to 35', you're able to fight it, but wind up pulling a wing muscle. Whoops. Maybe you over-compensated. -4 HP If 36'-46', you're able to fight the wind with relative ease. Unfortunately, the nearby Threadfall gets blown into your side and haunches -- and you were too big to move out of the way. Ouch, does that not burn!? Moderate Damage -8 HP

[Roll 5]
    9. As you're fighting Thread, you see your nearby wingmate in danger. You immediately blink between, falling out of formation, but hoping to save them! Roll a D4. 4. You actually find yourself Betweening INTO the clump of Thread. Oh fardles! [Major Damage -10 HP] SAVED BY LIRELOTH

Round 4 Day 1 Low Altitude
[Roll 1]
    18. Your dragon spots a few clumps of thread being blown about in front of them. If white, green, or blue, they manage to catch a pocket of air and surge forward, flaming down two of the three clumps, before dropping hard and getting the third. No thread's slipping through on your watch! [+3 Target Accuracy!] If brown or bronze, they don't need as much speed, and instead belch a long flame, catching all three with ease. +1 Target Accuracy, +2 Flame Length!]

[Roll 2]
    10. Are you feeling lucky? Well you should! Free reply! Respond to this post with any action pertaining to Threadfall, and gain a little luck. [+1 Luck]

[Roll 3]
    5. A small clump of Thread has fallen through! You successfully flame it down. [+1 Target Accuracy]

[Roll 4]
    17. Your dragon is effortlessly flaming Thread. Honestly, they almost seem to make it look easy. Both you and your dragon start to feel more confident, and even start to get a bit cocky. Low Altitude Wing was always the easiest wing to fly. Unfortunately for you.... Roll a D4! Find a tangle of thread hitting you from behind! Quick, hop Between so it doesn't do more damage than it already has! [Moderate Damage -5 HP]

[Roll 5]
    20. Something doesn't feel right. You wind up glancing over your shoulder just in time to see a small, silver strand drifting dangerously close to your dragon. Thankfully, your dragon shares your thoughts, and is able to blink Between and higher above their position, missing the strand, and saving yourself from a score. [+1 Instinct]

Round 4 Day 2
[Roll 1]
Your dragon is starting to feel tired. This particular fight is wearing them down. A strong gust of winds tries to throw them out of their position. Roll a D4 to see what happens! 3. Your dragon is blown out of formation. They struggle and flap against the wind, and only are able to recover when the wind dies down, feeling more exhausted than before. Worse, you think they may have pulled a muscles in their wing arm! Best watch it. [Light Damage -1 HP ]

[Roll 2]
You're low on firestone! If you've already replenished recently (within the last 5 posts) you may choose to skip this roll and just do a general post for no XP. OR you can keep it and blame it on a faulty bag, or some other excuse for being without stone. Call for one of the weyrlings to send you another sack of stone! [Flag down a weyrling! Post this code in your next post and see if a weyrling can get to you!
