Ciel Avec Cafeine Strawberry shortcake is really popular here in the early summer. It's everywhere. I don't like the biscuit, so I usually just have strawberries with whipping cream. Aretoo: Stop teasing the vegetarian. crying Not intending teasing... that's how I grew up! ^_^ (And 2 acres of corn for 4 people... was my dad NUTS?) rofl One of my favorite things is to do when I was growing up was to climb into the Gravenstein apple tree with a salt shaker and a good book, pick 10 or so good fist-sized apples, and lean back against the trunk and eat and read. I'm drooling right now. ^_^ And 2 kinds of blackberries grew on our farm; ones with rounded leaves and ones with maple leaf-shaped leaves. i preferred the ones with the maple shaped leaves, but really, is there any such thing as a bad fresh blackberry? I'd pick a Tupperware salad bowl full of them (probably 12 to 14 cups), and we'd have blackberry freezer jam, fresh blackberries over ice cream, blackberry cobbler... and of course handfulls of fresh blackberries that stained my fingers purple. ^_^

Blueberries stain so badly. @_@ Everyone used to scoop blueberries in the summer for extra money (unlike the US, we use children rather than illegal immigrants), and the first week of school, everyone's hands and feet were blue. x3

...Er? And I love tomatoes. Especially beefsteak tomatoes (the big ones); I'd go out and pick 4-5 of them, slice 'em up and eat 'em plain (with salt) or with a little mayo or miracle whip, or diced up with a little red wine vinegar. :droooool: The tomatoes on the vine that stores sell now come pretty close... smile

<_< It's true. Who the hell wants to cross *two* borders? Not that it's hard to get into Canada, but it's a long walk.
And salt...on your apples??? Eugh.
I only like tomato with other stuff. I went to an Italian restaurant once with my ex, and he ordered everything. The appetizer was this hunk of mozzarella with a slab of tomato on top. Blech.

Salt shaker was for the tart apples, something I got from my mom. I also eat my grapefruit with salt. ^_^
The blackberries were all wild; my farm was a section of the farm my dad grew up on (it was divvied up amongst my dad and his siblings after my grandparents died), and was 35 acres of mostly forest.
"Scoop" blueberries? And why were your feet blue?
And children pick strawberries along with illegal immigrants, at least on the farms where I grew up; that's what I did for pocket money and money to go to the county /state fairs. mrgreen

We only really border the US and ...well, Siberia, I suppose. And the ones fleeing the US are queer. <_<
Yep, scoop. The blueberries grow on really low, dense shrubs, in huge fields. You scoop them. But everyone wears sandals, and their feet end up blue.

Bear in mind it's not sweet apples I do this with, but tart ones. Try it sometime. smile
One of the things I miss most is being able to walk outside at night and see the Milky Way galaxy from the driveway. (My folks still live out there, btw, though I don't get out there often enough 'cause of work schedule to raid the garden often.)
Hm... well, I've never *scooped* blueberries, but we had a few shrubs... Unfortunately, my dog discovered he liked eating them, directly from the vine... rofl

And I miss the stars, too. I live in a city these days, and although the lights on the refinery actually look like fairy lights...it's not the same. The view from my house, almost
