Joshua shook his head, but did as Narcis asked. He would argue in a minute. 'Katalina?' He stretched out his mind again. 'We're being tailed. Don't go to the cave. Narcis thinks maybe stay with Kra for awhile.' Message sent, he turned his attention back to the siren. "Why would we want to lead them right to the cove? And what about you? You're not exactly in the greatest of shape." He pointed out.

Katalina paled when she heard him, but gave a mental nod in his direction. Okay. I'll take him there.
Narcis shrugged. "That is why I said to take the girl and the dragon," he said calmly. "They don't know that there was more than one of us - I was the only one on the camera, remember? If they found the end of the trail for me, why would they go any farther?"
He knew that what Katalina and Nezik had said was true - he was not going to be able to easily manage the water. He also knew that the way things were shaping, he might have no choice. He could not afford to have them be tailed straight back to the cove - straight back to Nezik and Katalina.
Shrugging, he said, "If you have a better idea, I'm listening."

"Um...I'll stay. Joshua will get you out of here and I'll let them catch me." Rose spoke up, quietly. She was born on the island, the people in the city knew her uncle. She could easily get out of a predicament with them. Unlike Narcis...... he would probably end up replacing Nezik in the tank.

((OOC: 8D))
Narcis lifted a brow at her, seeming to regain a little of his old personality. "And why would they think you had anything to do with it?" he inquired, almost kindly. "I don't intend to let them catch me, girl, if that's what you're worried about."
He pulled away from Joshua. Just having a few minutes to catch his breath had livened him up a little. All that he had to figure out now was...
He had no time, he thought. They were getting closer.
Turning to Joshua, he hissed, "Go. Hurry. Don't argue, there's no time."

Joshua bit his lip, thinking things over for a moment. At last, he nodded. He couldn't see any other way. "Be careful Narcis. We'll see you back at the cover." He gestured to Rose. "Let's go. He knows what he's doing." 'I hope.' He added mentally. 'Keep him safe. Please.' Joshua wasn't sure who he was praying to.

"I'm always careful," replied Narcis airily. "Sorry would have my hide if I wasn't." Gesturing them on, he said, his voice growing softer and more urgent, "Hurry."
Then he walked away from them slowly, towards the edge of the cliff, and picked up the empty backpack. He flipped open the cover and looked in briefly, then shook it out upside-down over the edge of the cliff.
"Joshua," he said, just loud enough for the teen to hear. "If something goes wrong, tell my cousins that I'm sorry."
Then he stared out at the water, hearing the crashing brush coming ever closer.

Rose tossed one more reluctant look at Narcis before disappearing down the path to the cove. Soon she was there, knowing the paths well enough. She had ran, as she always did when she was stressed and worried. She rubbed the tattoo on her shoulder, absentmindedly, as she waited for Joshua and Lucian. She was worried about Narcis....

Joshua nodded, not saying a word. He took off after Rose, draggin Lucian with him. 'Damn it.' He growled in his mind. 'Katalina is going to kill me. And it's going to be painful. Narcis, you had better be okay.' "Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid." He berated himself as he ran. He was supposed to be the one with knowledge here. He was supposed to have stopped something like this from happening. Joshua stumbled into the cove, panting hard from his run.

Joshua? Katalina's voice came to him timidly, as if on cue. Can we come back yet? Is everything all right? Kra is busy with the babies - he would like to know if we can go back to the cove.
Narcis waited until the hunters actually came out into the clearing. He stood then, dropping the bag at his side. "That's the one!" squeaked a man in a white coat, who Narcis assumed came from the museum. "He stole our new acquisition!"
One of the other men - a big fellow in a blue suit of some kind (Narcis didn't recognize a police uniform) - stepped forward and said kindly, "Come on, son. Why don't you explain to us where you hid their new fish?" Obviously, the man hadn't been told precisely what the 'acquisition' had been.
Narcis took an easy step back. Balanced on the very edge of the cliff, he replied politely, "It isn't right to take creatures from the sea, not ever." Turning his gaze to the man in the white coat, he said softly, "I set it free." Then he leaped backwards and fell off the cliff.
Once he hit the water, he knew he'd made a mistake. He allowed himself to let go of the human form with an immeasurable sigh of relief, then simply let the current sweep him along as he closed his eyes.

Joshua took several deep breathes before answering Katalina. When he did, the undercurrent of frustration could easily be heard. 'I don't know! We got tracked. Narcis sent Rose, Lucian and myself off. There was no other choice.' He pleaded for her to understand. 'I think he jumped the cliff.' The teen clenched his teeth and had to stop talking for a second. 'I don't know what's happened to him.' He admitted. Joshua went quiet and waited. He would understand if she was mad at him. Hell, he was mad at himself.

Rose had already disappeared into the water, she had started swimming towards the cliffs, or at least in that general direction. She didn't see Narcis until he had almost hit into her.

Katalina's mental voice was silent for several seconds. Then she said quietly, I see. Just that. No more. Then after a minute, she said, I'll bring Nezik back to the cove. If Narcis sent you off, it means he thought they'd catch up to you if he was with you. She didn't sound angry. Instead, there was a sort of dull misery, as though she were preparing herself for some inevitable pain. Would you mind watching Nezik while I... Another few minutes went by, and then she finished. ...Look for him?
Narcis was just damn lucky that he didn't necessarily need to breathe air. He was floating along through the currents at a fairly violent speed, completely out of it - not exactly unconscious, as Katalina had been when she'd pushed herself too far, just...out for the count. Almost asleep. His inert form swept by Rose, carried on the currents towards the cove.
