spaceElliott hadn't been particularly happy to be waking so early that morning; not after the full schedule he'd had to work his way through the day before. He figured that, after a couple of weeks, he'd get used to his Mondays, but at the moment, he was exhausted by yesterday. He was exceptionally glad that he had only three lessons to attend today, and for the generous gaps between them. It sucked to have to be up first thing in the morning for Alchemy, but he'd have two free periods before his next class that he could use to catch a nap. If not, he could catch one after that class. He was rather looking forward to this class, and for a few reasons. The most obvious, of course, was that it was a highly technical branch of magic, that covered a variety of techniques and methods. It was also taught by his Head of House. Elliott obviously hadn't ever really met the man before, given that in general he stayed out of trouble and had no reason to go to the man for anything. He knew who he was, had seen him often enough, but they'd never really interacted. He was curious about the man, to be perfectly honest. Especially given some of the decisions he knew Professor Amorocho had made, such as the decision to make a certain (normally) pink-haired girl prefect two years before. He supposed the girl was nice enough, but she certainly didn't strike him as prefect material. Still, he figured the professor must've had a good reason... he was looking forward to observing the man, getting to know him.
spaceElliott listened carefully to the professor's speech. After he'd finished speaking, the third year raised his hand. "Elliott Holt, of Ravenclaw. There has, to date, only been one known successful attempt to create a Philosopher's Stone, by one Nicholas Flamel in the 1300's. That same stone was later destroyed in 1991, and no other stone is known to exist." The Ravenclaw stopped there, figuring that, if nothing else, he should give his classmates a chance to add their own commentary or ask whatever questions they would. In truth, he wanted very badly to go on about Nicholas Flamel, and how he'd used the stone to survive for six centuries, along with his wife, by drinking the Elixer of Life it'd produced. But it seemed like overkill. And rather like he was showing off, which he did try rather hard not to do.

It was in many ways a potions branch of magic. And the professor was supposed to be quite competent, which was nice, especially considering the idiot that was teaching potions last year. It was embarrassing really. Regardless, Wendy took a seat in the same row as the Ravenclaw Elliot, who generally stuck to himself and wasn't one to say anything obnoxious or flat out stupid so she could stand the boy. Or at least stand being in his proximity-it wasn't like she had any interest in ever talking to him. Sitting down, she folded her hands in the lap, resisting rolling her eyes at the brief Spanish introduction. She had enough Spanish having to hear whatever that obnoxious unrecognized cousin would spout off She kept her expression neutral as he introduced the subject, appreciating the music reference to the art of Alchemy and waiting as Elliott gave his answer, obviously holding back from saying more. "Wendy Chaisty, a member of the house of Salazar Slytherin. As for the Philosopher's Stone, it is the essential ingredient in making the Elixer of Life which can extend a users life indefinitely with regular life. As for the last and only known stone in existence, it was destroyed by the potential to be used by those who did not have their 'hearts' in the right place for using the stone-specifically the Dark Lord Voldemort and his wish to use it to strengthen his power a few years before he did manage to make his second rise to power," She said no more, keeping her hands folded in her lap as she waited for her other peers to go.

Professor of Alchemy ..........Ravenclaw Head of House "The cycle of life only goes one direction,___________________________ not even alchemy can change that." ╔══════════════╗ Alchemy I Lesson One: Philosopher's Stone Tuesday, Block One, 8:00am to 8:45am ╚══════════════╝ His arms crossed over the width of his chest, his posture casually propped up against his desk as he leaned his weight backwards against it and glossed over the faces of each of his students, few as they were. Though, he genuinely preferred it that way, allowing him to speed through or slow down his lessons depending on the rate of his students process of information. And, ever so occasionally, straying off course from the topic to delve into curious existential matters. One Ravenclaw had taken the lead, followed by a Slytherin, how so very typical. ”Brilliantly spoken, Mister Holt and Miss Chaisty, ten points for the each of you.” He was always happy to award points to those willing to participate, it's one thing to have the knowledge, but to share it, is another thing entirely. ”Now, the philosopher's stone and the elixir of life are two examples of the three pursuits of every alchemist, which, in a nutshell, was perfection. Perfection of the land, of the body, and the mind. The land through transmutation of metal to gold, the body through the elixir of life, and the mind, through quintessence, which you won't be going over until your sixth year, so for now, don't worry about it.... Many of the spells and potions you'll be learning in this class will all link back to these three pursuits of perfection. In fifth year, you will learn more about the reasons behind these pursuits as we delve into the desires of an alchemist. For now, we will maintain the basics.
“The Philosopher's Stone is man-made, and blood red in color, it's magical properties, as already stated, include creating an elixir of life, turning base metals into gold, and also increasing one's magical power and knowledge of alchemy so as to achieve the impossible. The stone was created by Nicholas Flamel, he and his wife Perenelle, had used the stone and the elixir to survive for six centuries. Flamel had been born in 1327, to give you an idea. Now, I'm sure many of you have heard the tale of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, but we'll go over it anyway.
“Shortly before the Second Wizarding War, Voldemort, in his quest for immortality, through the use of a wizard host, Quirinus Quirrel, had successfully infiltrated Hogwarts castle where the stone had been kept safely and aimed to steal it for himself. The stone was contained inside the Mirror of Erised, any who looked upon its pane of glass would see what they desire most, and has been known to drive men into madness. Inside the mirror, the stone was kept. Dumbledore had enchanted that mirror to safeguard the stone so that only those who wished to find it, but not use it, would be granted the chance to take it. Which was exactly what Mr. Harry Potter had done, however, the details of exactly how he managed to defeat Quirrell, or rather, Voldemort, are highly disputed, and only truly known to Potter himself and his allies, speculations agree that Dumbledore had intervened...
Now, if there are no more further questions, you're homework until next class is to read the first and second chapter of your textbooks, Absolutely, Alchemy. You are dismissed.”

Location: Alchemy (Tuesday 8:00am - 9:00am) Mira couldn't believe it... she was late again. Horribly late... What did she have to do have Wendy hex her until she got out of bed on time. Running down the hall practically running into people she slowed when they got to the door. Sneaking quietly into the room, Mira fell into the closest empty seat. She got there in enough time to get the majority of the lecture but somehow she knew she'd be in deep trouble if Professor Amorocho noticed she'd come in late... Either way she took the notes and prayed he hadn't noticed her late entrance. Status: Not again... With: class... Professor of Alchemy ..........Ravenclaw Head of House "The cycle of life only goes one direction,___________________________ not even alchemy can change that." ╔══════════════╗ Alchemy I Lesson Two: Corrumpo Spell Tuesday, Block One, 8:00am to 8:45am ╚══════════════╝ Manually guiding the chalk to his uniquely sprawling script, Angel copied down the spell for the day and the page it appeared in their alchemical textbooks. Wiping his hands of any fine white residue, he turned his attention to the head of the class, waving a hand through the air with simple ease which had caused the classroom door to swing open, and then, the curtains upon every high arched window pulled to the side to let the light spill through and douse its rays upon the foliage nestled along the back walls of the circular room. ”Good afternoon, class, today we will be spell casting.
“This spell is a fairly simple charm, and, has been practiced now for hundreds of years and have changed in their uses over those years. For instance, before metalwork had ever been invented there were nomadic alchemists that often dealt with the melting of iron ore or, for the process of separating ore from other minerals, gems, or fossils, and then revitalize it with a spell you’ll learn in next class to use the pure iron ore in experimentation… Though, recently, it's uses are much more versatile.
“The Corrumpo spell can cast any metal to tarnish to rust, thus, creating an ease of access to burst though iron bars, mar an opponent’s shield, barricades, or weaponry, or, simply, destroy your friends bicycle, which, I don’t at all condone.”
“The wandwork is a bit difficult, so watch and repeat, with a swift wrist guide your wand in an even zigzag, absolutely make sure it is as even as possible going left, and then right, and left once again, failure to do so could cause the spell to to tarnish too much. Then thrust the point of the wand at the target and recite the incantation. Understand? The incantation is fairly simple, if you’ll repeat after me: cor-um-PEE-oh.”
“Excellent, now, give it a go on the metal chain link I’ve summoned to your desks, if you need any help, please, don’t hesitate to ask.” Page Nine in Absolutely, Alchemy Name of the spell: Corrumpo Pronunciation of the spell: Corr-um-PEE-oh Meaning behind the name: Corrumpo meaning: to break up, destroy, annhiliate / spoil, weaken Effects of the spell: This spell causes any iron or iron based object to rust upon will. Wand movements required to perform properly: With a swift wrist, form a zigzag line with the tip of the wand and then thrust it towards the object. Distance requirement: Item must be within sight Lasting effects: The effects last upon the object until the spell is reversed

Professor of Alchemy ..........Ravenclaw Head of House "The cycle of life only goes one direction, not even alchemy can change that." ╔══════════════╗ Alchemy I Lesson Three: Inveratus Spell Tuesday, Block One, 8:00am to 8:45am ╚══════════════╝ "Welcome back class, today, we will begin with the counter to last class's spell...The counter charm: inveratus, essentially does the opposite of your last spell, if you come across iron that’s rusted, this will do the trick to reverse the effects." Juan stepped forward to demonstrate the wandwork, and the etymology behind the spell and then offered for the students to have a go on the rusted instruments on his desk. "The trick, however, is not so much the wandwork (however that is just as important too,) but the thing about this spell is to remember that the way it is written is not how it sounds,
"Inveratus, when pronounced correctly, sounds like in-VET-er-a-tus." He nodded slowly and glanced around the room to assure himself everyone was keeping on track. "Now, if you would all take a look in your textbooks, you'll notice the wandwork for this spell is entirely similar to that of the Corrumpo spell, with one distinct difference. With Corrumpo, you begin with the zigzag line and then thrust your wand, Inveratus, however, is the opposite. So you begin with a thrust and conclude with the pattern. So do be careful, this is rust, I’d advise you all to wear your gloves if you have them, if not, I have a box full right here you can use. You may begin practicing once you've copied the notes from your textbook.”

Angel stood, adjusted his crisp tailored suit then grasped his wand hidden in his inner breast pocket, a few silent swipes of his wand and his name began to write itself out on the board. When the clock had finally struck eight, his wand had been brandished once again to swish the door ajar to allow the students to file in. ”Ah, hola y bienvenidos,” Angel began in Spanish, with the same greeting as every year before. He continued in English once the majority of the students had arrived. ”Welcome to Alchemy, I am Professor Amorocho, I understand it may be a bit difficult to pronounce, as it is, professor is just fine.
"Alchemy is an ancient science that profusely studies the four basic elements: earth, fire, air, and water, but it's not literally translated to what you know water and fire is. In those days, it was believed that everything, everything above and below the earth was created of these four elements.
"Alchemy is as much a spiritual journey as any religion, however, in this class, we will be exclusively reviewing the practical means of alchemy. Now, that said, we will be learning charms, transfigurations, and potions in this class. Why? Because alchemy is a diverse branch of magic, there is no real definition for what constitutes as an alchemical spell or potion. It's... It's almost like a music genre. It's time of discovery and original creators are the reasons why certain spells are referred to as alchemical--it's just because of the time period it happened to be established in.
“Moving on to the day's lesson, we are going to begin the year by briefly learning about the Philosopher’s Stone and its properties. One at time, tell me your name and house, and at least one fact or theory you know about the stone, or would like to know.”

Location: Alchemy I - Tuesday @ 8:00am Dakota was looking forward to Alchemy. It seemed to be one of the most interesting subjects the school had to offer. Of course that’s not to say he wasn’t interested in everything else he was taking. Regardless on Tuesday he woke up looking forward to it and when it was time to head to class, he was one of the first standing outside the door waiting for it to open. He knew his head of house taught the class and he ultimately hoped that he’d do fine in it and prove he was a good Ravenclaw. Once the door opened Dakota walked into the class and took a seat at the front of the class eager to learn. Taking out his parchment and quill Dakota started writing some things down. For some reason he always had thoughts for his writing right before class. As soon as class began the young thirteen year old stopped and looked up at the front. Listening intently until it was time to participate. “My name’s Dakota Vann or just Kota, I’m a Ravenclaw and I know that the Philosopher’s stone is used to create the Elixir of Life.” He said brightly. He could have kept going but it would have been overdoing it. No need to be a show off right? ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Status: So looking forward to this! With: Professor Amorocho Wearing: Ravenclaw Uniform OOC: --- ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ A rather curious lad aren't you? Not to mention quite inventive. You'll find your home in... Maisie walked in to Alchemy a little dazed from sleep. She hadn't gotten up this early in quite a while, and yet here she was...somehow managing to find the correct room. She looked over to whom she recognised was the Ravenclaw Head of House, whose name slipped her mind completely. Guess she was glad they were having introductions in this class... Maisie really wasn't sure as to why she was taking Alchemy, as with just about half the classes she was taking this year. It just seemed interesting when she saw it on the list of electives. She could always drop it if she didn't like it after this year, after all. As soon as the professor, whom Maisie quickly learned was named Amorocho, went into his lecture, Maisie tried her best to follow it. She even managed to write out some notes so she could remember what they'd talked about. And then came the introductions. "Maisie Reed, Slytherin. Just about all I know about the Philosopher's Stone is that it was created by Nicolas Flamel, and he's been the only one to ever have created on to-date." Maisie said before running a hand through her hair and leaning on her hand.

Maisie took a quick seat in Alchemy and stared up at Professor Amorocho, She listened, silent, throughout his lecture, then looked down to the metal chain. She picked it up for a moment, studying it, before sitting it back down and pulling out her wand. She pointed it at the chain and muttered "Corrumpo..." And watched as the metal began to rust.

Zeph had been both anticipating and dreading the start of the new year, simply because of the extra workload he was sure to have this year. Nevertheless, the Hufflepuff filed into class as usual, and pulled out some parchment and a quill for notes. He listened to the professor give his introduction, and the teen scratched out his notes, wincing as usual at what he knew had to be horrible spelling. However, even with his troubles with schoolwork, he was going to try his hardest to persevere and prove that he could do it.
When the professor asked for his name and house, as well as a fact or information he'd like to learn, the tall teen cleared his throat, figuring he could give what he knew about the Philosopher's stone. "I'm Zephyros Whitethorne, in Hufflepuff, and I guess one fact that I heard about was that the stone could transmute metal into gold." Well, it was true. While it was something he had been curious about, he doubted he would want something like that. The possibility for abusing it was well, pretty bad.
