Another patch! There! It had already slipped past the line of dragons, and was hurtling towards the lush farmland below... but Zunulth was not having that. Quick as a bolt of lightning he struck, stooping into a break-neck dive, and pouring fire onto the threat a breath before they rocketed through the ash cloud left behind, staining his white hide gray.

Roll: 86 - 85-89. A tangle of Thread manages to slip through! Though you try to get it, you're not fast enough, or aim was way off base. Though it doesn't hurt you and your dragon, you do watch as it makes it through the last line of defense, to fall upon the helpless world below. Crops, plants, animals, and even possibly people are now in danger... you can only hope the ground crews will find the burrow safely once Thread is through. HP: 16/17 Status Effect: None. Far, far below a strand caught their eye. Once more they stooped, diving for it... but too late. It vanished into a thatch of trees, and the white dragon roared out in anger and despair. Even as he turned back towards the weyrbowl—for their time in the fight was done—he reached out to report the missed fall. It would do untold damage to the land before it was rooted out... but at least it was only the one strand.

The winds were really working overtime to destroy them. Rhea held tight as Eirinth fought against the sudden bluster, but queens small and large were having trouble keeping formation. Worse, they were helpless to stop the Thread strands as they collided against dragon and rider alike. Rhea grit her teeth until they came back from Between, the chill from the other dimension reverberating in her teeth.
How are we?
Eirinth gave a low moan. The clump this time had really burrowed into her body before she could get rid of it, but she fought on. Pain kept her from noticing much beyond her for the moment.

Rhea fought through the pain of her own Threadscoring on her leg and aimed at a slice of Thread. Her flame came up short. Damn it.
< I'm so sorry. > Eirinth shook her head and grimaced. < I can do better, my love. >
Hush now, sweetest. Show me.

Eirinth was still struggling against the pain despite her resolute words--she was thinskinned in more ways than one--but she attempted to dive for a stray strand of the menace so that Hers could catch it before it hit the ground. She miscalculated, however, and it was only by an early bugle from a wingmate that they jumped Between and away before Thread latched on.
Rhea knew the gold was making more and more mistakes, but she couldn't spare a thought to revisit them in the middle of battle. "My thanks!" she shouted to Amna and Zunulth, with Eirinth wordlessly expressing the same. The queen's head hung a little lower.

In a sliver of peace amidst the chaos, Rhea leaned forward and pat the gold's undamaged shoulder. No room for that right now, Eirinth. I need you facing forward with me.
The queen sniffled.
Halfway there almost.
Eirinth remained silent and yellow-eyed, but she picked her head up.

Eirinth surged forward, letting her rider catch a falling clump in passing. It only made her feel slightly better. However much progress they were making, it always felt just a little short to her...

Heroic. T'kyr would have liked to hear that Qianna considered them heroes, but even if she had, Rivaeth wouldn't have let it go to her head, if she had anything to say about it. After diving in to flame the thread approaching the other whitepair, they dove again, to flame another patch. With a burst of wind, the thread was blown towards them, but they quickly betweened, emerging beside it, and scorching it to ash.

45-50. You keep looking up, but nothing seems to be heading your way. Your neck is starting to object, but it doesn't matter. You must be ever vigilant, or so the saying goes. The Queen's Wing is an important position, but it sure can be boring... Part of you wishes you could be higher up, where all the action is. Part of you is grateful you're safer down here.
After that moment of action, the next few minutes felt long and dull. No thread, nothing. T'kyr wished she could be up there with the others, fighting at a higher altitude. Rivaeth, however, knew it was not for them, and never would be, despite T'kyr's bitterness on the matter. You could fly better than any other dragon. Rivaeth, in turn, reminded her of the difficulties that came with being a white dragon--and a tiny one, to boot.

It seemed the fall was basically over. Well, it wasn't, obviously--but there was a gap that seemed to stretch on for ages, leaving T'kyr wondering where all the sharding thread was. Had the upper wings flamed it all? T'kyr craned her neck, peering around, just in case, but nope. Nothing. Well, perhaps it was for the best--Rivaeth was getting tired. Very tired. They'd flown valiantly, and soon they would need to return to the Weyr.

70-74. As you're burning down a clump of Thread, something doesn't seem right. With a sudden shout and twist, your dragon lurches to the side, as a shaffing bag of firestone comes hurdling down. Damnit! What on Pern are they doing up there!?! Amateurs! +1 Instinct
((Slightly tweaking the flavor of the prompt))
Nothing, nothing, nothing! And then, suddenly, their guts lurched as one. Something was falling at them, faster than thread. Rivaeth bellowed, rolling away, and the pair watched as a bag filled with firestone fell to Pern below. What in Faranth's name...? T'kyr thought, growling to herself. Amateurs, maybe. Idiots, certainly.
41-44. You suddenly see a clump of Thread. Your dragon wheels towards it. With a flash of hot fire, you manage to catch the whole clump, and turn it into harmless ash. And they say the Queen's Wing doesn't do anything, pfft. You'll prove them you're just as worthwhile as any of the fighting wings. Well done! +1 Flame Length
Just when T'kyr was convinced that threadfall had somehow ended, the pair spotted a clump of that oh-so-elusive thread. Time to make their weyr proud. T'kyr let out a cry as they barreled towards it, flame pouring from Rivaeth's mouth. The thread was no more--well, that was a good note to end on! It must certainly be close to the end of the two hours they'd fly for--Rivaeth was exhausted!

Back from between, stinging just a bit between the both of them as Susurinth used the little chance of quiet to shake herself almost bodily off, Pavari leaned in her straps and blasted down some thread with her flamethrower. She had to be careful not to make it so any of the ash blew against her sweet dragon, but the woman watched it blow away with relief.
