((Hmm wonder what Nezik asked.......Oooh does Narcis like that Riiya person?))
Rose had followed Katalina silently. "I think that would be the best spot." she agreed with Joshua. She glanced between the mer-people, wondering what Nezik had said that caused Katalina to blush so much.

((OOC: Nope.))
"That's perfect," Katalina agreed with relief. She shot a dark look at Nezik and shook her head when the boy opened his mouth to ask another question. Then she went towards the area pointed out with Narcis in tow - as much to escape from the strange looks as anything else.
Nezik shook his head, looking after her. "I don't know why she just doesn't do what Father asked," he muttered. "She obviously wants to." He looked at Joshua. "What do you think? Is she just mad that he told her to?"

Joshua looked oddly at Nezik. "Think about what? What was she told to do?" 'This just keeps getting even more confusing. I am so lost....' The teen was beyond confused now. Nothing was making sense. He decided not to follow Katalina, at least not yet. He wanted to see if Nezik would tell him more. His natural curiosity was running overtime.

Nezik blinked. "She didn't tell you?" He seemed to think about this for a minute or two, then sighed. "Promise not to tell her I told you. She might be mad."
With a shrug, he said, "She's the oldest granddaughter of the patriarch, right, so she's expected to take a big part in carrying on the line - the eldest daughter and the eldest son of the future leader are supposed to be the two most important elements in the future of the clan, even if neither of them are chosen as the leader. Father wants Katalina to unite with Narcis - to bring the two sides of the clan closer together. She refuses to, but I don't see why."
Looking young and a little confused, he added, "She likes Narcis. So I think it's maybe just because Father told her to."

Joshua nodded. "I promise." He wanted to know what was going on. 'I'm tired of being out of the loop.' He listened, eyes widening in surprise. There was an almost audible click as the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. "Oh...." Was about all he could manage when Nezik finished. The teen gave his head a shake. Now that it was said, he realized it was pretty obvious. "How in the world did I miss that little fact? But if she likes him, why does she oppose the union so much?" He tried to think it through.

Nezik shrugged. "I don't know, but it's her choice. Narcis says no because he thinks she doesn't want a union. I don't know what he'd say if she said yes." He looked a little sad. "That's what I was asking her, but she won't answer me. Maybe she's just being stubborn. She doesn't like it when Father tells her to do things."
Katalina, completely unaware that her deepest secrets were being revealed by her kid brother, remained by Narcis, watching him anxiously for any sign of life. Narcis remained stubbornly silent and motionless. She looked over her shoulder briefly, wondering why the others were staying over there rather than coming to join her.

((Hmm......you don't seem to type to just tell us who he likes{obviously stressed } so I'm going top guess Narcis does not like Katalina that way? I like but hate mysteries at the same time, it is a love-hate relationship))
Rose listened quietly to Nezik and Joshua. She sighed and quietly made her way over to Katalina. She settled down in the shade next to the mer-maid. "Any better?" she asked, softly.
((How old are Nezik and Narcis? Or at least how old do they look?))

"So no one knows what Narcis really thinks?" Joshua asked. As much as it felt like prying, he liked to have all the pieces in his hands. He'd found that if pieces were missing, wrong connections could be made. "Think she would agree if Narcis said yes?" Nezik had already said the siren would agree if Katalina did, but did that work both ways? 'I feel oddly like I'm playing matchmaker....'

((OOC: I'm not telling you. You just have to wait and see. Narcis looks to be in his mid-twenties. Nezik looks like he's in his late teens. Narcis is closing in on his fourth century, and Nezik hasn't quite hit his first one.))
Katalina shook her head. "He hasn't woken up yet," she replied, gently brushing his hair back from his face. "I've never seen him so tired." She wanted to ask Rose if she thought the Siren would be all right, but how would the girl know what Katalina didn't?
Nezik shrugged again. "Narcis keeps what he thinks to himself," he replied ambiguously. "But it doesn't matter. They both have to agree to it - Father can't make them do it - but Narcis would never say yes before my sister does." He looked over at Katalina, who was now talking softly to Rose. "I think he thinks it would be too much like forcing her. But like I said, he keeps his thoughts to himself."

"Yeah, I noticed." Joshua made a face. 'I'd thought that might be because I was human though, but I guess not.' He glanced over to where Katalina was. 'Narcis had better be okay. Otherwise, Katalina won't be okay.' He turned and slowly began wading over to where the others were, thinking as he walked. 'Even if she dislikes taking orders from her father, you'd think this one she'd do. Even just for herself. Why does she keep saying no, when she really wants to say yes?'

Nezik joined Joshua, tilting his head curiously. "You're like him," he said. "You don't tell people what you're thinking. Why is that?"
Katalina looked up as the other two approached. Her smile was very faint and very solemn. "What took you so long?" she asked. Her attempt at lightness fell rather flat, though, considering the look on her face as she glanced briefly back at Narcis.
Then her eyes widened slightly and turned suspiciously towards Nezik. He blinked back at her innocently. She eyed him for a minute more, then shook her head and looked back at the Siren.

Joshua cast Nezik an odd look. 'I'm like Narcis?' He was honestly surpirsed that the young merman would come up with something like that. Personally, he didn't think he had much in common with the siren. Still, he shrugged and answered the question. "I'm just so used to not having anyone listen. If no one listens, what's the point of telling?"

The merman nodded enthusiastically. "You don't think so?" he asked, surprised, when Joshua gave him that strange look. "I do." When Joshua answered his question, the boy frowned. "But you have important things to say," he objected. "Why would people not listen?"

Joshua shook his head, dismissing the thought of being like Narcis. Instead, he replied to Nezik's question. "I'm still fairly young by human standards." He gave a small laugh. "There are people who are older and more important. If I say one thing and they say another, people will listen to the older person. So, I just stopped saying things. Like I said, what's the point if no one listens." He shrugged once more. He glanced out towards the sea, thinking. 'There's also that small fact that I don't have any degrees or anything. Never studied this stuff at a school. So how could I be right when those who did study say I'm wrong? Even if I studied at the sea itself.' The teen didn't realize he was doing the very thing Nezik said made him similar to Narcis.

Nezik good-naturedly gave up the point, although he still thought Joshua was more like Narcis than either would readily admit. "So you base who's right on age and importance?" he asked, surprised. "Why would you do it like that?"
Just then, Katalina looked over at them, her face suddenly shining. "Joshua, Nezik," she said, "he's waking up!"
As indeed he was. Stirring very slowly, Narcis opened his eyes and blinked up at Katalina. "Sorry," he rasped. "How...?"
"Don't worry about it," she murmured softly. Nezik glanced away. The tenderness in her voice made this feel like a private moment - and so, a very awkward one for her little brother to be standing around listening. "Everything's all right now."
