Sanzokitsune Because I don't follow every damn word he says I'm disrespecting the pope? No, it's because you're disrespectful in talking about what you don't like about what he says. Sanzokitsune Wow I should tell my father and mother that tell them just because I don't follow EVERYTHING they say I'm being disrespectful. Disobedience is disrespectful. Sanzokitsune Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? Absolutely. Sanzokitsune So I don't particularly like this pope, doesn't mean I don't respect him. I do want to hear what you have to say about why you respect him, absolutely! It just gets my knickers in a knot when you make fun of him. Sanzokitsune I have a lot of respect for people of the church. Please, do tell! Sanzokitsune I may not LIKE a lot of the things that go on but that doesn't mean I don't respect it. I find that to be an oxymoron, but I'd like to hear both how and why. Sanzokitsune You know what pisses me off the most about this stuff? That you put words in my mouth every single time. I apologize for that. I just lose it with you every time something about the Church comes up. I do ask your forgiveness.

@Ky, Again not everything a person says should be followed. I am not being disrespectful just because I don't like what he says, I'm simply stating that I don't like it and in my own way saying I think its slightly misguided or wrong for ME. I respect a man who can completely devote themselves to religion, its not something I could ever do because I don't fully trust it. I have issues with it but I respect that it has a lot of power and most of the time IS trying to help people out. And it is NOT an oxymoron to dislike what a person says but still respect them. Just because you don't always like what someone says doesn't mean you have no respect for them as a person or for what they do. As for how I feel about the church, badgering me and pissing me off is NEVER going to change my position so let me be.

And the reason you can't agree with the statement is cause its not true, you can be respectful and still be disobedient, particularly when you know the rule/law you are following is incorrect.

Would you say that Adam and Eve were respectful of God in disobeying his command to not eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? Would you say that a child who decides not to do some little menial task that their mother asked them to do is thinking "I love my mother very much and I respect her therefore I am not going to do this thing that she asked me to do!"? @Sanzo: Nor would I if a man told to jump off a cliff and die. When the man is the sole man appointed by God to head His Church perfectly in faith and morals, I am obligated by both love and respect to do so. I honestly wish I could, Sanzo, change your position. But little by little (and with no small amount of help from yourself) I'm figuring out it's not my place, but God's. Pride sucks. I'm sorry for offending you, truly. Truce? Two people can't disagree and both be correct if they're both infallible.

Like if every time someone said "Go jump off a cliff" you would have to do that, and you can really only do that once, unless you are really really really really really really really (did I say really enough?, lol) lucky. It doesn't matter to me who the person is who tells me to jump off a clliff, I wouldn't do it, no matter what. Even if that person was my master. Sorry, brave_terra. Pride does not suck, pride keeps me from cowering in a corner and crying about my position in the world. My position will never change because it works for me. I refuse to believe that God will throw me out of heaven just because I didn't follow every single rule the church threw at me. Also the pope has NEVER been infallibe, he is a man, he is human, therefore not perfect. Don't say he infallible because then you are comparing him to God and even I think that's going too damn far. I know a lot of Catholics (who have been Catholics their entire lives from birth till now) who would find that disrespectful of God. My great-grandmother died at 95, Catholic her whole life and if you said that to her she'd probably say you were disrespecting God for that. Only HE is infallible. And I suppose we can call a truce for now.
edit: @Champ more than that, it makes it sound like every time you disobey your entire position is to be disrespectful and its not. You can disobey someone you have great respect for.
