@Sanzo: 85% of Catholics are non-practicing. Of the 15% who are, I wonder who is really trying to fall in love with Jesus, deny themselves and take up their cross. So I'm not suprised that you know a lot of Catholics who don't believe in the infallibility of the pope. There's a better chance of that than otherwise.
Exactly. You have hit the nail on the head.
Also, every one of the twelve apostles - with the exception of Judas - is a martyr. As in, killed because people didn't like what they were saying. Therefore your stance is understandable. In fact, they only killed St. John by boiling him alive after multiple other attempts on his life.

Even if a man sins he can still be justified by the forgiveness of God. Papal Infallibility does not extend to the person of the pope because he IS a man, and as a man he IS fallible. Papal Infallibility does not make him a perfect man. It means that when speaking to and for the Church in matters of faith and morals he cannot be incorrect - that he will be guarded by the Holy Spirit from error and it must be invoked to be so. I would like to see solid documentation of those issues, please, before I further shame myself in my un-education.
Also, does God not, as told by the Catholic faith, move everything according to His Will? Do you think he could not make these men vote well? Do you think he picked random bums off the street? Absolutely not! These were the men chosen by God to do so! If the Catholic Church IS an institution of God and not of man then He would certainly not leave it to collapse upon itself! And if it were run by fools and incompetents it certainly would have by now! It has lasted longer than any other institution! And it is not the best run, the most streamlined, the most undissented organization known to man. By far, it is probably one of the most ungainly by all human standards. It's workings are a veritable mystery to me and why it would even remain at all when 85% of it's members have left, and all the rest of the world would see it razed rather than be bothered by someone doing as the Gospel tells them!
@Bass again: Sola scriptura is a one legged stool. It does not stand up on its own. It needs a governing body to explain just what is within it, to put things into it, to remove things from it. And it has been left alone for a very long time in terms of content. The Church didn't come from the Bible. The Bible came from the Church.

@Point 1: And that honestly matters how? You all worship the same god, Stop messing around and just be the same damned religion.
@Point 2: And again, Word of God came from man, so it's not infallible.
As I said, Take religious debates out of the Phunkeh thread and into the In Depth Discussion where they belong. This is for lighthearted fun, not religious crusades.

If I remember correctly from the little amounts I know was that man wrote the words of god (where they got those words I don't know) and when Jesus came down for a visit he confirmed they were the words of god. So if Jesus was legite then the words are I guess.
I'm an athiest anyway and I still respect the pope. I think religions are interesting and stuff and I have no issues with people believing in them I just choose not to. And I agree with Bass that it should be left for the IDD. Religous talk just brings up to much grrr and arrrg.
