On they flew, Nzambith feeling like a wherry's armpit. Venn tried to cheer her up but it seemed nothing would do the trick. She was quiet as they flew, still dutiful, but her somber side was certainly coming out.

It seemed Vennodren's words were cheering Nzambith up a little. She still felt terrible, but she called out encouragement to a nearby wingmate to try to help them find their strength.

Upon their return, Vith was feeling quite in shape and ready to go. He spotted a wingmate in trouble and together he and K'mar called out, even though the human's voice was lost to the wind. Still, Vith's telepathic warning was heeded and while Vith flamed down a patch of Thread, their wingmate Between'd to safety.

Encouraged by the teamwork, Vith gave a mighty roar and called out to a wingmate who looked like they could use a bit of a pep talk. He didn't want anyone feeling as if things were hopeless - when they worked together, they could do anything!

Altitude Change! Hour 3, Round 1 Beings!
High Altitude Wing: Star Flame Mid Altitude Wing: Fire Storm Low Altitude Wing: Flame's Fury
Hour: 1200
Wave Change: First Wave must return to the Weyr! Second Wave is up!
Location: Directly over Western Hold, and the plains over the Western Continent. Any Thread that slips through will bring with it devastation on the crowded Major Hold below. While most should be indoors, the Hold is large enough that there might be those who were locked out, or unaware that it was a Threadfall day and are now well without shelter. Additionally, there are docks and ships in the ports on the eastern side of the Hold, and there are minor Holds, cotholds, and life of all stripes on the plains.
Conditions: The wind isn't getting any better, but the predicted low is moving slower than expected. While it means any storms that develop will happen later in the afternoon, it also means there will be no rain to drown Thread. Winds from the unstable air of two colliding weather fronts will make for continued rough conditions.
- - - -
The winds were not dying, and any hope for rain was dashed the longer they fought. While clouds were forming well north-west of them, they were flying south-west, and would likely miss any rain that the colliding fronts would likely bring.
Perhaps that was for the best.
A heavy rain might drown Thread, but there was no guarantee conditions would remain wet enough to kill it; a mist or sprinkle wouldn't be enough, and any downpour could just as quickly end, leaving the people below without aid. It wasn't ideal, no matter how many riders might wish such a thing.
R'mor wasn't sure whether they were doing better or worse. A white had gone down, and there were many inured. Even the Queen's Wing was taking it hard, with multiple reports of injuries even so far below. P'kav was gone... and there were still two hours left.
Faranth help them all, he could only hope no one else would succumb this day.
First Wave! You have fought well this day. Return to the Weyr, get patched up, and rest up until the rest of your wingmates return! Second Wave, your time to fight is now! Join us in this great battle but be wary of the winds upon your approach! Thread is blown about everywhere. For those who will remain in the fight, keep up the hard work! You are halfway through this fight, but the winds are not our friend this day. Let your Wingleader and Second know if you need assistance or to return to the Weyr to heal! You are not in this fight alone!
And with that, R'mor gave the signal for wings to change their altitudes, and the Waves to swap.

They had been waiting far long enough to climb into the air on his strong wings and help their wingmates. Starting in the Low Altitude wings was fine for both of them, Nicara had been paying attention to the reports of the conditions. The wind and the low front, the way thread seemed to be falling and how many were getting through.
Flame's Fury's blue wingsecond erupted up into their position with ease and with a roar, Diesteth surged forward.

Round 3: Day 1: Roll 1:+1 Target Accuracy Roll 2:+1 Instinct Roll 3: Roll 4: Roll 5:
Just as predicted, even in the lower wings thread was everywhere around them. Nicara kept an eye, curious to see what it was that was sneaking through the upper wings, if it was the wind that was causing it or something else. Either way she didn't want it getting to her wingmates. Carefully she watched around for her dragon first and foremost, the rest of her wing came after his safety and her own. For what good were they if they became so damaged they couldn't help?
With a quick image the pair hopped Between and above their position, flaming down errant slivers.

Slivers here, slivers there; so far no clumps had made it through that they had seen, but that didn't mean they weren't falling down towards them currently. Diesteth shot flames at a little cluster and banked back to his original position, eyes careful.

That careful wariness paid off as the blue once again zipped forward, Nicara had seen it almost through his eyes, almost a ghost of acknowledgement. Clumps were seared to ash before they could fall much further onto the wing below them, onto the Hold below them. They would be rising into the Mid Altitude wing in only an hour or so, the pair rumbled a bit.

Possibly as a direct result of moving so quickly towards it, Nicara watched as the hot ashes from the burnt thread spores blew back at them, a subtle change in the wind happening right before her eyes. Even if he wasn't very large, Diesteth was still large enough to catch the ash on his face and neck, not quite agile enough as a white might have been to dodge it. A tiny hiss came from him but nothing else that indicated she should worry.

Diesteth was keeping an eye out on the shifting winds, making certain to feel them with his wings, sense them happening just as much as Nicara was watching them and the wingriders. So when a shift came she had him issue an order out to each of them, letting them know to adjust their positions so none would be blown out of formation.
Everyone
I'm not sure who's got who up right now but for everyone that I missed, add +5 HP to your dragons!

XP: Target Accuracy: 4 +1 Flame Length: 3 +2 General Stamina: 2 General Agility: 2 Between Accuracy: 4 +1 Pain Resilience: 2 Instinct: 2 Luck: 2
The first shift switched with the second in a small lull as the wings switched places again and Vith had a moment to breathe. He could feel K'mar's excitement and energy and he wanted to give his rider everything he sought to prove to him that staying had been the right decision. Fighting Thread was in their blood.
Doing all right? K'mar asked with a grin in his voice. Vith chuckled softly and nodded affirmation. He was doing very well, thank you, especially with the moral boost from Diesteth.
Very well, thank you.
He glanced to his side and spotted a wingmate who didn't look so well despite the rallying cry from their wingsecond and sent them a thought of encouragement as well.
