Karunia - 20, she/her

Karunia, not exactly a healer type, took one look at the open wounds on the two and deduced the following: blood spurting bad.

“Mean, you might pass out if you let those go,” she said casually to Huarwar and Aelyx. “Besides, not like getting bandaged up will stop the babies form finding you! If that’s what you’re scared of. Plus they’ll probably just cleans and wrap you up and toss you back out to the sands for judgement anyway. Allow me and my second mate here t’at least get those seen by someone who knows what they’re doing.”

Unless Matotoka actually had that sort of knowledge lurking about his noggin? She hadn’t exactly asked and was just acting without thinking too hard about it. Wounds bad, blood bad, healer good. Karunia offered an arm to let one of them lean on her so they could get going maybe right now yes?

SHAFFIT! Shards and shells! "Damn you, child, don't you DIE ON ME! Don't you dare give up! No, no, no! You keep on breathing, do you hear me? You keep on fighting. Don't you dare." Another healer put pressure on the wound as Tristram frantically tried to get that shaffing Candidate's heart beating. Oh shaff. Oh shaff, not today. The poor kid was bleeding out on him, not today!

Thready pulse weakening fast and... he had to make a choice. He couldn't save both. With tears streaming down his cheeks, he cleansed his hands again. Nothing... nothing could ever make these moments better.

The kid had died beneath his hands. Perhaps he could save the other. He started working on Papys. Shaffing... children. Stupid, stupid, brave children. Daring to believe in a world they'd never see.

Brenley

"Yes. Let's." He stepped back too, watching as a handful of candidates were flung around and scratched up a short distance away. The angry green was still rampaging, the golds were just standing there watching, and the first dragon to hatch was trying to hop her way up into the stands.

"Do you think anyone has ever considered a ramp?" he asked Pyper, looking down at where her fingers clasped his robes. "For the hatchlings who want to venture into the stands." He was trying rather hard to remain calm, and if talking about dragonet accessibility would keep him distracted, then that was what he was going to talk about.

Impression Post

Dsharmira had been surprised to be woken up in the wee hours of the morning to attend a Hatching, though she had known it was coming soon. As the current wealthy Holder she was contracted to escort was attending even at the strange hour, so was she. And she looked the part from the hair to the shoes even at such short notice. Richly dressed, it was hard to tell that she had been asleep only a little while ago.

She was watching everything with interest while giving the proper gasps and startled noises to make the Holder Franlen be able to ‘protect’ and ‘teach’ as he wanted. But this wasn’t the first time she had attended and she knew things got interesting and scary. He didn’t have to know that, though.

She had been peering with interest down at the small green looking up into the stands, when the other green started seriously attacking people. …was that candidate dying? And that one…She was a little alarmed and looked about for the inevitable healers that would be coming. Only to have an odd sensation of a voice not her own in her head. DsharmiraMine, please come get your Zhaoruith!

What? She looked down at the green who had been looking up. Yes. That was her talking. She saw gorgeous rainbow eyes peering back up. Please… please come get me. I am hungry and I hurt! Oh. Oooh. She turned to Holder Franlen said simply, “Pardon me, but I am needed elsewhere,” and removed herself from the startled and slightly annoyed man’s grasp. Carefully she moved down the stairs to the Sands and knelt next to Zhaoruith. Unmindful of any ichor getting on her she gave the green a small hug. Zhaoruith leaned her head on Dsharmira’s shoulder before telling her, I am hungry and the sand is beginning to stick to me.

Dsharmira laughed and leaned back to look at rainbow eyes fading to a happy blue green. “Let’s go.” She already knew better than to carry the small dragon and together they walked regally to the feeding tables. Dsharmira had no idea what was in store for her anymore. It was a strange feeling, but she would not change it. That would mean giving up the most wonderful being in all of Pern. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you looked at it, all thoughts of dying candidates had been driven from her mind.

Papys

There was no moving this kid - not really responsive to what Papys had been trying to do, anyways. When the healer made his approach, the young man half stepped, half stumbled, back before sitting in the sand. "'m okay...them first..." he said softly, staring at the mess that was unfolding with a patience fueled mostly by exhaustion.

Metzli hadn't exactly seemed pained from what Papys could understand - something about their face. He wasn't a healer, though. He didn't understand the little nuances...his own aching body would numb the exact blow for a while. He didn't smile, though. Even the way all of his features seemed to be permanently stuck in that expression drooped along with the slight frown.

It went that quietly, huh? He didn't dare to ask it....and he didn't dare to think it long, eventually looking away to focus on Tristram and what he was doing.

"Do you....need anything?" He asked after a moment, as though he had anything on him to offer that could dry tears or do any good besides soaking his blood.

"You are not fine. Now hush," Tristram said, checking the young man over for the source of that deep wound. "What I need is for you to put pressure here." And the healer indicated the source of that blood. If they could stem the flow for the moment, he could certainly clean the wound and begin healing the lad.

----

Casgar winced, his grip tightening on Jacomus's arm. "She's smart. She won't let a dragonet get her. She won't stay put." Of that, he was certain. But it looked like they'd already lost one. What a shame! He knew the kid. Poor thing. In his twenties, and quite a talented baker. Useful when he'd needed help in the kitchens and-

... Thinking about this wasn't making anything better. Gulping, Casgar tried to make swimming eyes focus. "Shaffit."

Pyper - 16, she/her

“What?” She glanced at the stands, where it looked like the really angry green had found hers, or at least was trying, uncomprehending for a moment. “Oh. Uh. Where, just, like, straight down the middle?” Pyper asked.

The healers were starting to rush in. Pyper watched one start cursing over a still and bloody body, and her dark skin seemed to turn a degree closer to ashen. People were getting hurt and/or dying, and Brenley wanted to talk about accessibility. She wanted to laugh. She did laugh, though it was a weak sound.

For a moment, Pyper, star of the family troupe, masterharper in the making and future dragon rider, extraordinary in every way that mattered, felt very insignificant. She wasn’t quite sure how to deal with that except latch onto her friend’s weird line of questioning.

“Like...Like smaller steps, or an actual ramp?” she asked shakily, steel-gripping the loose folds of Brenley’s sleeve still. Were candidates supposed to comfort the ones that stayed alive? Mourn absolute strangers? That could have just as easily been either of them. And there were still eggs to go...

NPC Healer at your service. For like a second. Since... I probably won't be able to keep this up. So if someone who has a PC Healer wants to take over, that's 100% okay! LOL He'll be taken care of though....unless you plan on axing it. I just wanted him off the Sands since he was PTFO.

NPC Journeyman Healer Chauston

This was his first assignment outside of Fort's Healer Hall, and the young man had thought he'd be prepared. He'd only been at the Weyr not quite a sevenday, but part of the reason he'd been taken on was because of the upcoming Hatching. Unfortunately, Chauston didn't know that such an event could be so...well...chaotic or so bloody.

As soon as the first attack had come, Healers began to swarm the Sands. In a hot minute, he made a bee line straight to the first young man who had fallen. Dropping down next to Rykin, the man immediately lifted the young man up off the burning hot Sands. Faranth, help him, moving the injured wasn't always the safest thing to do--but there was no help for it. They couldn't exactly just set up triage right on the Sands with hatchlings moving around them. It was a calculated risk... but the sooner Rykin was off the sands, the better.

Lifting up the other in his arms, Chauston could at least do this much. It didn't take him long to get the young boy over to the sidelines and to capable help.

Rasthell

The red-head was horrified. As soon as the dragonets began to attack, Rasthell moved well away with Rio, and hopefully Nuamia as well. The man certainly didn't need to be saved, but he appreciated the kindness. "You both all right?" He asked, looking over at his companions once the immediate danger had passed.

Well.

Sort of.

They were all in the thick of it, now.... And there were other red-eyes out on the Sands. Until all the dragonet's had hatched and found Theirs, none of them could let their guard down. There were others fallen on the Sands, others that needed help... A desire to aid and help warred with the knowledge that healers were already rushing onto the Sands to aid the fallen and remove them.

Oh, Faranth, he hoped they would be okay... He couldn't see everyone, or everything, with the throng of Candidates on the Sands. But oh, his heart ached for them all.

"Just find Yours, little darlin's," he mused softly, trying hard to find some sort of good thought, some sort of hope to send the babies way; but he was afraid for those who had fallen, afraid for what might come.

Papys

She had been real upset. Papys looked to see where the little green had ended up. Was it appropriate to still care when he was bleeding and another was..... oooh, no, his brain danced around that thought to keep from fully acknowledging it right then. Instead it held tightly to that single instruction Tristram gave. He could do that.

"Like this?" Papys asked, having absolutely no craft training but still eager, in his half-exhaustion to try and help. Even if it required a little pressure to keep his body from bleeding so much. At least he had blood to - oh, look at the pretty babies! Mmmm, he was going to have to have that full thought eventually when the pain ebbed and the exhaustion wasn't so bad.

And accept the follow up thought that he hadn't gotten worse because they did.

Vosin/Gold Killakeeth
The first of her offspring hatched and Killakeeth welcomed the young green. Then the large Green Olive egg hatched. Vosin had to blink in surprise. Twin golds? She asked first in disbelief. So they are, Killakeeth replied smugly. Vosin laughed and gave her congratulation. Thankfully neither gold seemed to be harmed by the joint stay.

High Reaches would be talking about this for a while now! So would Western. There would be a lot of things talked about for this hatching. Vosin tried to keep her chin from hitting the floor when the first green ripped into another egg and revealed another set of twins. Oh boy. She glanced toward Killakeeth as the babies started swatting at each other. Nothing there yet. Vosin was sure her gold would step in if things got really out of hand.

And a third set of twins! A handsome brown and bronze. Vosin wondered if there had ever been a record number of twin hatchlings before. If not, Killakeeth was setting the bar high tonight. The gold herself was watching amused. There was something entertaining about a Hatching. Teth however……

Vosin watched those below intently. Things were getting quite hot on the sands, figuratively and literally, for the candidates. Several of the hatchlings came out spitting, and blood was shed; both dragon and human. Several of the candidates seemed to be in bad shape. Vosin sighed sadly as one was covered and the body moved out of the way.

Candidate Omurntas Western
Things were starting. Eggs were shaking. Omurntas curiously turned his head to watch the eggs, then one popped open to spill a red eyed green onto the sands. Interesting. He was surprised when the second egg to hatch had two hatchlings instead of one. His eyes widening as the color of the twin girls was revealed. Golds? He didn’t know that two dragons could hatch from a single egg.

He felt bad for the first green as she was quickly outshined by her more shinier twin sisters. Her tantrum though had the effect of spilling even more hatchlings onto the sands. He wondered if she’d open the rest of the eggs for them. What had worked with his blues? Happy thoughts right? Omurntas tried to think soothing thoughts at the suddenly exposed babies. He smiled as Daisy green came over to look at the candidates.

A sharp retort echoed over the Sands and brought his attention to the Funfetti Egg. It was plain to see the cracks slowly go down the sides before a handsome blue emerged. Oh he was heading towards the fight. Maybe he’d stop it? Then one gold and the timid Daisy green started browsing the candidates together. What a cute pair!

Omurntas was surprised by yet another set of twins revealing a brown and a bronze. More eggs hatched open as more greens showed up. He smiled at Blue Cloud Green as she passed by. He held his breath though as the fight between gold and green intensified, then the two greens went cannoning into the candidates.

Things were about to get interesting. The calm, happy clutch they’d touched seemed to disappear in whirling red eyes and slashing talons. Omurntas wondered at the eggs he’s touched, if the shells had just been a facade. He was too busy to notice the goings on at the healers, as he was busy avoiding joining them.

Rinis- Apprentice Firelizard Breeder Western
Rinis gave her mentor a wide grin. “A bit too early for you eh? Looks like most of your fair decided on the wise course and remained in bed.” She laughed. Bourbon gave a polite cheep to Wallow in greeting before resuming her humming. Slowly the eggs gathered momentum, and the hatching became.

A strong, if angry, green was the first to touch the sands. Followed by a glittering surprise. Two golds! Rinis felt her breath catch in her throat. “Woah,” she whispered. That wasn’t the end though as the little angry green helped several of her siblings to hatch, revealing another twin pair. “H-have you seen so many twins Shalaera?”

So much was going on already. One gold was trying to discipline her green sister, other babies were stunned by the sudden hatching. “Oh dear. I hope they find their riders alright.” After a fight, things seemed to be moving in the right direction. She hoped Brown Paw Print would be ok and her sister would let her up soon.

Rinis pet her firelizards as she watched the chaos down upon the sands. Yeeeeeah, in a way she was glad she wasn’t down there. There was quite a few angry babies now, when the rumors she’d heard had all been pleasant for the most part at the touching.

Vesin

This was one hatching she wouldn't miss for anything in the world. Of course, most of Killakeeth's clutches were like this and it wasn't likely to change. Figuring her sister would have one of the prime seats, Vesin had found her quickly and sat next to her, a comforting arm around her shoulder. Hatchings could always be somewhat nervewracking, especially when some on the stands were candidates one had handpicked. Ves watched through the chaos of dragon on dragon fighting...then group fighting...egg opening...candidate opening. She held her sister's hand, her thumb rubbing comforting circles on Vos' hand. Who the comfort was for could be up for debate. "Each hatching is always so different isn't it..." A hint of sadness in her voice.

N'man of blue Fantoth

"Shards and shells, right, right, don't move them.." He tried to apply pressure, but the damage was too great. N'man shuddered, frowning. Somewhere near by, though Meztli was no dragon, Fantoth let out a low keening sound. It seemed the mischievous dragon had had a great deal of N'man's patient empathy wear off onto him already, causing him to grieve.

Why must it all end with violence like this? Why must these children be so ANGRY? Nevermind that at least one of his own clutchbrothers had been such a violent little thing... He didn't tell the children to stop, though - That was the job of their parents and the weyrleader's dragon.

N'man shook his head, staring sadly for just a moment. He then turned to Tristram--

And had his own bag land in the and next to him, Plague flaring her wings and eyes whirling white, red, yellow, orange. "Oh, thank you, Plague!" N'man reached up and scratched her cheek, then turned to apply pressure to Papys' wound. "A valid attempt, but here, I've got it for you." He offered as reassuring a smile as he could, while Plague moved to distract the boy. A deft helper though she was, sometimes her strongest suit was helping somebody pay attention to something besides the injury.

You probably have SO many quotes from me now and I am so sorry I keep mucking up the coding

Nemo and Jacomus

Nemo glanced at Casgar, frowning some. "Are you going to be alright..?"

Jacomus only held the other man close, nodding. "She'll... She'll be okay. Look, somebody's even... Found their way to her. Safety in numbers, right?" Really, though, that was a surer way of getting hurt, when he thought about it... Okay, he didn't want to think about it.

Nemomine, tell him that Kraketh can hear what he's fretting about all the way on his weyrledge.

"Calm your thoughts, Jacomus, you'll drive your dragon to his own fretting and we don't need a fretting bronze sticking his head in here when he's not supposed to be."

"But she's my sister!"

Letting out a sigh, Nemo rubbed at his face. "I know it's hard to watch, I had to watch my own son-" He stopped at the look he got. "Not that son, Peku's still too young. His brother, Pontos. It was nerve-wracking, watching him down there, knowing he could very well die, but..." He let out a fond chuckle. "Now he's on a brown and I couldn't be prouder. So, she might Impress, and you get to be proud of your sister."

Hyseren - HR Candidate
In a perfect world hatchings would take place in a calm, orderly fashion. In a perfect world dragons would hatch either self-assured and definitive, moving directly to their riders; Or they would hatch bewildered and in awe of the world beyond their shells, cautiously investigating for awhile before coming across their partner and being washed over with feelings of adoration and reassurance. In a perfect world twins would not be plucked from their normal lives, dropped into a Weyr, and then split apart because one of them was chosen by a tiny white dragon.

Pern, however, is not a perfect world. Hyseren had been doing his best not to harbor any ill feelings towards Sthenoth. He knew how happy his sister was since she had Impressed but to say he wasn't put out over the whole ordeal would be a lie for the ages. He missed the constant companionship, the inside jokes, the feeling of knowing he always had someone to count on to help him with whatever crazy idea he'd come up with. Haelwen still made time for him when she was able and he was the number one fan of her and Sthenoth but he was still struggling with an intense form of loneliness that was nearly crippling at times. Despite his playful and often mischievous antics, at the end of the day, he was still left feeling like the unwanted third person on a date meant for two.

So it was that he had immediately jumped on the offer to stand at Western for their new clutch. He wouldn't have been Searched if the dragon didn't think he could be a good match for a future dragonet and maybe some distance from his sister and her Weyrling friends would help him reset and recover. All of the new people to flirt with was just a bonus in his mind. He'd finally fallen asleep after being restless, thinking about the kiss he'd shared with the cute girl in the kitchens, when the humming woke him. For a few moments he blinked, thinking perhaps he was dreaming but then everyone else was getting ready and rushing to the Sands and he hurried with them.

He remembered his lessons, and his experience from the last hatching and so he took his spot on the Sands quietly and stood watching the events with as much of a straight face as he could. He radiated calm energy despite the anger and violence. All that time spent meditating was really paying off. Maybe his energy would reach the dragonets and calm them a little bit too. The only time he lost his focus was when he was forced to quickly get out of the way of lashing claws and a strongly whipping tail. Just a little too close for comfort... he thought before looking around after the baby moved away. He took a few steps towards some candidates who looked injured but stopped when he saw others who looked as though they knew what they were doing approach. Best leave medical care to those who are better trained...

His attention refocused on all of the dragons on the Sands and he worked on getting back into his calm frame of mind. So many beautiful, young dragons. May all of you find the one meant for you.

((Hyseren is trying really hard to pretend he isn't alarmed by the sheer number of unpaired dragons milling about.))

Nonami - Western Weyr - Candidate - They/Them

Nonami's breath caught, as a candidate was suddenly gushing blood.. A candidate that looked quite familiar, who they had traded recipes and small talks with. Though Nonami had never quite reached out to Metzli, nor any of their other fellow candidates outside of Aerden and Stormy.. Ones they had known through their sister, like Xanael, Dhawsn, Astriana… Yet their heart broke at the surety of their acquaintance? ...friend? being covered off the sands. Their hand trembled, clutching Phryana's as they looked out at the sands and the hatchlings and the deeply-rooted fears surfaced once more. Were they meant to be standing here…?
