"You are a girl. I am a guy. Where you see pretty gems I see oodles of cash. Besides, dad's always saying how much I'm taking after him." Kai said as he folded his arms proudly.

Larai sighed once more. "I should've never brought you here." she said, keeping her frown.

"Are you two fighting?" Daemon asked innocently as he looked up at Larai.

Larai shook her head. "No, we aren't. We're having a civil disagreement." she replied calmly and in a gloomy manner.

"Fighting requires violence in either words, actions, or both. We are simply disagreeing with each other in a nonviolent manner, so we're having a civil disagreement." Larai said, refusing to admit anything along the lines of 'we are fighting'.

"So do you not like your brother then? You don't seem very happy."

"I don't dislike my brother, I just wish he wasn't such a greedy little pig sometimes." Larai replied, forcing up a smile for Daemon as she spoke. "This place means a lot to me. To hear him only think about this special place as nothing but some potential gold in his pocket just tears me up. Kind of stupid, isn't it?"

"Then why bother showing it to him in the first place? I certainly wouldn't risk someone getting their hands on all this."

"I thought he wouldn't be so greedy about it. I thought wrong." Larai replied. After a couple moments she asked, "What should I do about it. I love my brother, but he's a completely selfish moron who can't seem to keep himself out of trouble for even a moment!" Where have we heard that before? Replace the word 'brother' with 'father' and we'll have Milly's sentiments exactly for Daemon. At least, from when she was younger.

"You know, the entrance isn't the way out considering how high up it is. I can just as easilly lose you in the tunnel out and keep you there until you learn the difference between what's okay to try selling and what isn't." Larai grumbled, just barely loud enough to be heard. "By the way, I've tried selling the brighter ones before. They're pretty baubles but otherwise worthless." she then said, her dead serious expression doing well to cover up the bluff. However, Kai being her brother, he might be able to spot her lie.

"If you so much as touch any of the gems aside from the one I've given you, your bike will never work right again." Larai threatened with an irritable look about her.

"Yeah, yeah....No fun if no one's around to catch me anyway." Kai said with a shrug. He was definitely Van's son.
